At $19, it is a fantastic deal & would of been perfect if our steaks was cooked to our liking. All of our steaks were overcooked. I asked for a medium rare and got a medium. The frites that comes with it is one of the best! So crispy on the outside & fluffy on the inside. I also got their ceasar salad & it was presented so well. The amount of dressing on it was on point. The smoked bacon & parmesan was delicious. Our hostess who was also our server was kind & helpful. We had some good laughs with her. Overall, I enjoyed my meal & would come again for their 1/2 price steak. Next time, I'd just order it rare. Last time been to Terra Rouge was before the pandemic. The dinner experience was not too good as the taste of the food wasn't match the price we paid. This time we decided to try one more time for brunch. They have the "winterlicious" $38 menu that totally worth it. We started with the escargot, duck confit as the main and finish off with the cheesecake. We also add one order of lobster benny. Guess what?! After the meal, we decided to come back again next time to have dinner. The duck confit comes with salad and a few slices of duck breast. Cheesecake is another surprise as well. **3.5 star** I came here with a group of friends for Winterlicious. We were seated by the windows and it was extremely cold that day. We did ask if they had seats upstairs but since there was already a party of 40, we were stuck downstairs. The waitress was really nice and gave good suggestions on what to order and she was SO patient with us. For $55, I ordered the Smoked Duck Salad, 10oz steak, and lemon tart. I was surprised how big the portions were -- I couldn't even finish! It was the first time I felt full from a Winterlicious meal LOL. I really enjoyed my salad and the lemon tart was good but a bit too sweet and not tart enough for my liking. The steak however, I asked for medium rare and it came out almost well done and dry. My friends helped me tell the waitress cause I hate being that person that complains about food lol, but they asked if I wanted replace it. So they did and the chef personally came to my table to ask if it was okay. It was better but definitely not as juicy as I wanted it..esp for medium rare. The one thing that did bug me the entire night was when they kept asking if they can bring out the next meal even though I wasn't finished. Wow, I'm not one to give low ratings but I feel compelled to after my experience here. I really had high hopes for this restaurant after seeing posts about the food. I will say that the interior is very nice and modern. Service was quick - we did take out and our order was done right on time. When I got home and opened the takeout boxes, I was so disappointed. We got the lamb rack and the lobster risotto and the total came to $97.18. The portions were so small. The lobster risotto came in a small takeout box that was only half full. The portions for the lamb rack was small as well and looked sad in the box. The lobster risotto tasted good. That's why this didn't get a lower rating. The lamb was okay. I feel like we could make it at home for just as good or even better. Definitely not worth the $97. Overall, I was very sad after this meal. It was supposed to be dinner for a celebration. You win some and you lose some... taking a fat L . Went on a double date at Terre Rouge, food and service was average towards below average... My friend ordered a Lobster Bisque and the server was like "you know it's soup right"... I don't think he was very impressed... The Lobster bisque was super watered down... Ordered half a dozen of French Kiss... They ordered half a dozen of French Kiss and Raspberry Point. When the oysters were placed we asked the server which was which and she didn't even know... The oysters were also not cleaned properly... The Lobster Risotto was flavourless mush.. the Duck Confit was only satisfactory...DO YOU SEE HOW DRY THE DUCK IS?! I don't remember this place being so bad .... I seriously hope quality control and improvements are made... I'm so unhappy with how disorganized and rude the staff are, the bad food didn't make it any better I also felt super bad cause I made the reservations... If I'm posting strictly for the $1 Lucky Lime oysters that we had on a Thursday, I would say 5 stars cuz it was a great deal and it tasted fresh and just what I had wanted! The old fashioned was more like a 3 star ... although I think it was more a 2.75... sorry! Escargots with bread was great! Chef came out and gave us more as we still had a bit to polish off. Steak had good flavour too. The rest of the meal were ok. Great presentation for the dessert! Just a bit on the sweet side for personal taste preferences. Highly recommend getting the bone marrow and steak tartare here. So fresh and flavourful and perfect to start any meal. I'd recommend the black cod as well as its smooth and flakey. For desserts, do NOT miss out on their molten lava cake. It's honestly one of the best ones I've had to date. Came here on a Thursday and it was pretty busy. Came here with my family last night for a birthday celebration. It wasn't completely packed but it was still busy given that it was a Friday night. I had a slightly different experience this time. We were seated upstairs this time and I found it a bit noisy. I much prefer dining in the main floor unless you are with a group of friends and wanted a bit of the buzzing vibe. Food wise, I wasn't as impressed as I was last time. I got the 4-course Prix Fixe menu again which was still $60. Price wise it's still a good deal. The most memorable dish was the starter dish, beef tartare. It was simply delicious...just melt-in-your-mouth! The 2nd course was the lobster tacos which was only okay...nothing special. I was also surprised that there was no choice on the dessert. I think it was a baileys' soufflé which was good but it would have been nice to have a choice. There were also other dishes that my family ordered from the a la carte menu which they thought was only okay. I think that the best option is still the Prix Fixe menu. I probably won't be coming back anytime in the near future unless I'm craving for beef tartare. read more

Atmostphere Upscale, intimate, rustic, 90s music, thoughtful decor The ambiance when we came in was classy and upscale. It was us and another table. 2 groups of well dressed clients. About 20mins later a flood of casual clients came in with sweat pants, hoodies and kids. It's not the restaurant's fault but it felt like a Kelsey's or Boston pizza after that point. Service Patient, courteous, attentive, friendly Lora served us for my mom's birthday dinner on the second floor of Terre Rouge. I think the second floor has a more open and welcoming atmosphere than the first floor. Lora was a perfect waitress and gave us enough time to look at the menu, order drinks and spaced out each course properly. She gave my mom samples of wine to help her decide on one. Huey, who I think is the manager was also very thoughtful and courteous. A few utensils and a wine glass was dropped during service and all the staff didn't hesitate to make sure everyone was safe and apologized for disturbances. Food Most importantly, food. The menu is simple, one page. Some people get anxious at the sight of plethora of choices and my mom is one of those people. The prix fixe ($60) and tasting menu ($90) are a good choice for those types of people. We ordered the prix fixe and wasn't disappointed. Beer and wine is around $11 per serving. Cocktails, add a few dollars. Maybe it was all the negative reviews that gave me a lowered expectation but the food here is up to par. We had a chance to try all the options of the prix fixe menu with 2 people. The highlights for me were the mains. The duck came in 2 generous portions of duck breast cooked to your liking with a nice layer of fat. They were crusted with black and white sesame seeds and sauced up with a light sweet sauce. The rich duck is balanced with zucchini, cauliflower, other veggies and 2 dollops of cauliflower puree. I've had a few black cod dishes in my day and this one is on par. Cooked to perfection, the cod was smooth and soft. And you can't go wrong with miso. The soft texture was balanced with a crunchy cod croquette. The spinach risotto was well done too. The beef tartare was nice. I liked the capers in it. The brulee'd fois gras was interesting. I liked the contrast in texture more than the added sweetness. But it was a good dish none the less. We were disappointed about the lobster tacos. The chipotle sauce over powered the dish so much that you could probably put anything in it and call it lobster. And cutting the lobster in to tiny cubes doesn't do the lobster justice either. But all in all great experience. read more

Immediately upon walking through the door you have a choice of being seated on the lower level with a view of the open kitchen, or the upper level with the bar. There is also a patio on the second floor with quite a sizeable space. The decor is relatively minimalistic with not too much going on and it feels like a very modern take on a French restaurant with hints of a verdant touch. In terms of food I ordered the charcuterie board to start, bone marrow and escargot. The Charcuterie board had plenty of salted meats, cheeses and pickles. There was an assortments or preserved meats, perhaps 3 total kinds and also 3 different kinds of cheese including blue and cheddar. There was pickled cauliflower, olives and gherkins but a downside was that it wasn't explained by the waiter. Bone marrow was delicious and very traditional. Baked with some breadcrumbs on top and served with bread. Nothing wrong about it and it was cooked well. The escargots were well cooked but very buttery as one would expect. Many of these appetizers are served with bread of some kind and that's something that you may have to consider while ordering. The mains we ordered were the Bouillabaisse and the Duck Breast. The Bouillabaisse was nice and fresh with shrimp, mussels, calamari and scallops. Everything aside from the small scallops were extremely fresh though there was chunks of overcooked celery in it. All in all it was lacking a sort of punch, acidity and colour that one would expect from a saffron broth. As for the Duck Breast it was served perfectly cooked with a nice butternut puree. The duck could have used a little more seasoning or brining as it was a little bland on its own but with the orange reduction it has plenty flavour. The puree was nice and smooth but could have used a slight touch more butter to soften the acidity of the butternut and to make it just that bit better. There is a drink menu full of unique and interesting beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I cannot speak to their quality myself but the guests I ate with informed me that they were quite good. The service from the waiter was quite good and he was attentive and kind. All in all quite a good meal though the food could be improved with just a touch more. read more

This was a Christmas lunch organized by the company I work for. This being said, I've also included the prices for what we were provided to eat just so you have an idea of what the price range would have been in theory to actually dine here! [Coffee] $3 - it was pretty standard coffee. I honestly had more than I probably should have just because it went well with the dessert! The coffee really helped me appreciate each flavor of the dessert to its fullest extent so I highly recommend ordering a cup of coffee. [Soup] $9 - after seeing the price point it is typically served at, I really hope that they give a bigger portion when you order it off the menu. It's honestly not a big portion but it was good for what it was. I would describe it as a fancier version of a chicken noodle soup. Beware: it has just the right amount of black pepper in it for me but my colleagues said it was too much for them! [Tuna & Salmon] $17 - this was a plate that every four people shared. It consisted of a tuna and salmon tartate type spread that was served to us with wonton chips and bread! The spread tasted of yuzu which kind of has a citrusy flavor - I found it to be delicious and really wished they served us one plate of this for every two people instead! Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of it because I was so hungry that I just dove right into eating it [Steak Frites] $25 - honestly, the steak was what I was waiting for as it was the main course for what I chose off the set menu. Given its price point, I can kind of understand why I received the quality of meat that I ate. The flavors of the steak were all there and the sauce on it was marvelous. The only thing that truly took away from this dish was how many tendons I encountered while eating the steak. I honestly was getting to a point where I had to cut the steak into pieces no bigger than a dime to avoid hitting tendons. Otherwise, it would have been a dish I highly recommend. [Coconut Creme Brulee] $12 - this was so delicious! I wish it came in a bigger portion because of how much I liked it. I highly recommend ordering a cup of coffee as you eat this dessert. I also recommend having coffee with it because then maybe you'll be able to savor it for longer than I did. I pretty much scarfed it down without a second though and then was met with instant regret because it was all gone. Do I recommend this place? If you're looking for good food at a relatively mid to high price point, heck yes! The service we received is tough to comment on in a general sense as we had the whole upper floor booked out. I don't eat in Markham often but I don't recommend Terre Rouge based on the new years eve prix fix menu . It was limited, pricey and the food is average ( at best). They weren't really busy for Dec 31 and could have offered their full menu IMO. The shrimp app and duck salad are not items I would order again. The lamb was ok, tender but not seared / charred and the " rack of lamb" was 3 pieces of lamb rib. The chocolate cake was something I could get from Loblaws. read more

Actually the upstairs is way more comfortable than downstairs but I didn't like the woman at the podium looking me up and down, making a quick face then telling me I had to go upstairs. Mushroom risotto: I love mushroom risotto and if it's on a menu I'll order it. So I tried making risotto once and it was a disaster. That was still better than what I got. The rice was wrong, it tasted bad, and once again it was so salty it was hard to swallow. I offered a taste to others at my table and they turned it down because " the portion is so small if we all try it most of it will be gone". It was a main. Once again when I spoke up was informed that again I was wrong that it was fine. Um.. ok. Everyone at the table agree it tasted bad and was salty. I guess we are all wrong. Duck leg: One duck leg. Beer foam. Got the beer foam ten minutes after it was placed in front of us. Scallop App of the day. They took one scallop, sliced it in 4 pieces and drowned it in sauce. Disappointing. They sold it to the table as something spectacular. Staff. Our one server was really nice the next one was so overwhelmed I felt like I should offer to help clear tables. The upstairs section is completely full and one person serving the whole section. The one nicer person you could tell was experienced and was hustling but still, wanted another drink and couldn't get her attention. The time with the overwhelmed person. Same thing.I felt bad for them . If you do end up going, order a whole bottle of wine for your table. Chances of getting a second glass of anything is low. Fanciful fusion food but also sluggishly slow service. Service: The waiter and waitress were very professional, with frequent water refills and plate and cutlery changes after each course. The food took a long time to arrive (especially the wait for the appetizers), our meal lasted an entirety of 2 hours. Food: Complimentary bread and butter to start, pretty standard. The beef tartare was excellent, no gamey taste and the texture with the quail egg was tender, not chewy. The foie gras was executed very well, but the hawthorne compote made it a bit on the sweeter side, almost like a dessert. The black cod was the signature dish, with a the fantastic croquette to balance the rich flaky and sweet texture of the fish. The lamb chops were also seasoned very well, with a sweet and tangy barbeque taste, although the rapini was a bit bitter. Finally, the bailey's "soufflé" was a perfect way to finish the meal, resembling almost like an ice cream/tiramisu. Overall: The quality of the food rivals spots in the downtown core, and wouldn't hesitate to return. Would have loved to try the surf and turf pasta but it wasn't on the menu anymore. I'm glad this place opened up again. Been missing some good ol french cuisine. Their terrace patio is small but nice. Over looks the water fountian/ ice rink. Good amount of shade. Went there for a quick lunch and a few drinks. Ton Collins was very refreshing and suited the weather. The menu had most of the usual favorites but We ordered the pre fixe option and a Bone marrow to start. I'm am very impressed with how the presentation and the food quality was. Most pre fixe menus are smaller portions of the main selections but these were the same portions. Great value and a good choice if you want to try several menu items. Beef tartare.- was nice and done very nicely. It was almost meal in itself. Bone marrow. - it was very nice as well. However, I would have preferred a little less seasoned. Bone marrow & escargot dish was not hot/warm when it arrived; it was rather cold which was disappointing. Also, the steak was not cooked as requested. Three people got different requests: medium, medium rare and rare. The rare and medium were overcooked while the medium rare was undercooked. The size of the cuts were inconsistent. The overall experience fell short, unlikely for me to return or recommend. From the cramped and temporary table setting to the questionable choice of tablecloth and chairs, the first-floor atmosphere left a bad impression. Stacked cardboard boxes at the bar contradicted the expected standard for a "Modern French Restaurant" with a high rating on Google. Chefs were casually eating fries and drinking pop in the kitchen during our wait was unexpected for such an establishment. Celebrating my birthday, we always wanted to try terre rouge. We were seated in the upstairs patio which was spacious and well distanced from other guests. The service was impeccable and we never had any difficulty finding a waiter. Everything we ate was excellent. We ordered the beef tartar, shrimp asparagus salad, lobster bouillabaisse, lobster squid ink pasta, deconstructed mascarpone cheesecake and frozen baileys soufflé (a must!!!) It was clear the menu was well conceptualized and executed. We ordered the prix fix menu for $55 a person which included An appetizer, main and the dessert. This is my first visit to Terre Rouge, after a long period of lock down, it's really great to chill in their patio. Their servers were truly sweet considerate. We had scallop salad and oyster as starter, duck and black cod as main course, lava cake as dessert. What we love the most was the oyster and black cod. We had French kiss oyster, they are fresh, sweet and crispy. The skin of black cod was baked almost crunchy and the fish meat was tender and full of flavor. The lava cake brought me to a different level with the mixed texture and temperature. We will definitely visit next time, best place in Markham. read more

My friend and I came to Terre Rouge for dinner. The interior is very nice and modern. We liked the open kitchen concept - mainly because you get to see the chefs at work and whether or not they keep the place clean! Her husband is the head chef cooking many French inspired dishes. I have been to France a few times and the dishes are beautifully done with creativity too. (Eg. If you order their foie gras it's presented like a creme brulee with a side of nitrogen fog). They offer delicacies like foie gras, bone and marrow, waygu beef, oysters, escargots, beef tartare and more. Overall it has great ambience, quality and service. Location and decor Happy with the design looked modern and nice enough for a date night with the spouse for sure. They left a door open our table and it was super cold. Food Had an amuse bouche which was a nice start a shrimp and salsa with capers etc. Two different appetizers in the Steak tartar with quails egg and crab and lobster cake. The steak was overcooked and very dry and bland. Served with very nicely crisped but really salty French fries and some sort of gravy sauce. The duck was tender but overcooked and bland. Served on top of a bean sausage fricase that was mediocre at best. Dessert was phenomenal. Lava cake and ice cream as well as cream Brule. THAT was well done. Overall value Not worth the price. Definitely not. The steak was a cheap grocery store steak that was way overcooked and dry. Duck wasnt memorable. I always love to come back to Terre Rouge for dinner. Not only is the atmosphere very relaxing for a dinner date, girls night out etc, but the staff here is very nice. The owner will always come to greet us, will attend to our needs, and makes sure that everything is going smoothly. The other servers would come to check up on us to fill up water, clean our dishes/utensils and replace them right away. They would always inform us of any specials for the week/day which is nice to know if you're not sure what to order. There is a variety of dishes to choose, from appetizers, mains and to steaks. They even offer a set menu option too if you really want to explore. The food overall is delicious, and I find that the portion is reasonable for the price. My personal favorites are their rib eye steak, foie gras and lava cake! Whenever I come back, I am never disappointed :) read more

Went in for our anniversary dinner and was totally upset about this place. Firstly, we waited for a long time to get our drinks and have to remind the waiter twice for our water. Secondly, the menu they have wasn't the same we see from online, it looks like they have increased the price a bit and took out the calamari and scallop that we wanted to order. Thirdly, we ordered the only beef dish that the waiter said was special and not on the menu, I ordered medium and it was so over cooked that it was as rough as a rock. When he handed the bill, we were shocked that it charged us $160 for this rocky steak. COMPLETELY UPSET for our anniversary. We checked out Terre Rouge during Downtown Markham's DineOutDTM festival. We visited for lunch and they started off with serving us some bread with butter. We opted for the $25 prix fixe lunch menu which includes an appetizer and a main dish. For the appetizer, I chose the lobster tacos. Although they were smaller than I expected, they were so delicious with lobster, mango, and guacamole inside! They went so well together! For the main dish, I ordered the salmon with braised cabbage, chickpeas, edamame, & roasted red pepper and the presentation of the dish was absolutely beautiful! The salmon was cooked perfectly, so soft on the inside but with a crispy skin! Combined with the veggies makes this quite a healthy lunch option! The service is great as well as the servers often came back to check if we enjoyed the food. I also love the decor in this restaurant! They charged me $8 for flat water?! I totally got scammed. Where do you think we are living? Europe? Tap water is drinkable in Canada. I declined from the alcoholic drink menu and my husband and I just wanted water. The waiter then asked Do you want Sparkling or flat. I said flat, expecting to get tap water. He came back with an already opened bottle of spring water and started pouring it in our cups before I could stop him. He did not tell us this bottle of water would cost us additional, but I already knew. This totally ruined my mood for the rest of the meal. The escargot with bone marrow was not what I expected from the previous review on Yelp either. I saw on Yelp 2 bone marrows with 4 escargot and 2 slices of bread expecting to get this. What I got was a blended bone marrow sauce with a few pieces of escargot and a few crumble of bread crust. I came here expecting small portions and expensive prices. The patio was nice, with a nice pond in front. The black cod was a little fishy, the risotto was good. I'm not coming back, I left not completely full. A friend had said that Terre Rouge was *worth it* and what's NOT to love about a French/Italian/Chinese fine-dining restaurant in the heart of downtown Markham? It's just everything you ever wanted bundled and merging into one - the true Disney Fantasia experience! But like other things Disney, it sometimes disappoints you... like Disney being a corporate enterprise and starting its own streaming subscription, leaving one disappointed as you wave goodbye to all the good Disney flicks on Netflix. This is a long overdue review of this French restaurant with a nice patio and a cool location. The food and service are good, but nothing blew me away. I would give it 3.5 stars and would go back as the ambiance is quite cozy. We had the salmon tartare cones which were interesting, and the scallop carpaccio. The duck and wagyu striploin were underwhelming, although I did like the truffle fries. I find the menu a bit pricy for the quality of food, but overall a good experience. read more

Great service and delicious menu. I had the prix fixe $60 while friends had the tasting menu $90. Everything was beautifully presented and delectable. True to French cuisine, portions were not huge, but always have you wanting more. Favourite items included; amuse bouch, lobster and black ink pasta, miso cod with spinach risotto, beef tartare, cheesecake, creme brule, and the lobster tacos. Priced just right. What a joke! Very disappointed about their customer service! I ordered the Valentines menu. Supposed to come with lobster bisque, it changed to mushroom soup without telling me at all. So surprise when I found mushroom soup instead of lobster bisque. When I called the restaurant, they offered no apology but just said menu changed. After I pressed on, they finally offered me a 20% off for the next lobster bisque order. Don't think I will go there again. I posted my comment on the social media and they erased it right away. I don't think they take customers' comments seriously. Very poor management!!! read more

Service was excellent, they were super nice. I feel so bad that the waitress needs to carry super heavy food while walking upstairs. I know this restaurant is owned by chinese since I heard him speaking mandarin. But I really hope the chef was either french or really focus on french cuisine because the food was just normal, nothing special. So I think the food was a bit overpriced for what it is. One of the reason we went to this restaurant was because they said all the staff wear masks there even you're not required to wear masks anymore. But we were quite dissapointed, all the staff did wear masks except the boss. Literally we saw him walking around with no mask. How ironic. Moreover, the ventilation isn't that great at this restaurant. So it's kinda stinky. And if you're eating upstairs like we did, goodluck. It's very suffocating. It feels like there's no air. Probably won't go back because there arent many parking space there and I would rather choose Day and Night which is also owned by chinese or some other cheaper restaurant with similiar quality of food. read more

First off - thank you to the team for accompanying my group and serving us a well made 4 course dinner! Service was great from start to finish, and food was delicious. Kale salad - the bacon was probably the best part to this dish. Lobster tacos - was not what I was expecting, crunchy shell but full of flavour. A little messy but still good overall. The mango was a little overpowering, and definitely hid the flavours of the lobster. Duck Breast - delicious! Cooked perfectly and the flavours were so good! Dessert - baileys soufflé was different! I'm usually not a fan of baileys but this one has a subtle hint of it, but just enough to bring out a nice creamy flavour! I really liked the warm duck salad and cheesecake...but was quite upset with the poor customer service on a supposed high end restaurant on three occasions. We were a party of 10 on Father's Day and I suppose this restaurant clearly could not handle the volume of customers and snap under pressure. First incident: my nephew felt something poke him in his back on the padded couch seating. To our surprise we saw a nail about to pierce through the fabric. Our server apologised and advised there is NOTHING HE COULD DO. My husband became agitated and asked "Do you have tape? Something to tape to the surface?!" He replied I will see what I can do and came back with a napkin and a roll of tape. Second incident: Half our table ordered the scallop carpacio as part of the $60 fixed prix menu. The server recommended that we dip our bread in the sauce (I thought that dish was too sweet btw) but he will get us some more bread since we have already the first basket. We almost finished the scallops and I waved him down to tell him we were still waiting for our bread. Instead of apologising and assuring us he will bring some more bread as quickly as he can, he said "YOU ALREADY HAD SOME. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO MAKE TOO MUCH AT ONCE OR THE BREAD WILL BECOME SOGGY.
