TESLA solar SUCKS. The previous owner of my house signed into a 20 year PPA 1 year prior to selling, which I cannot disinherit! The rate was only a penny lower than the PG&E rate, so not grate at all. Sept 2024, I contacted Tesla to remove the panels because I have to replace my roof. First, they should not have installed on such an old roof, I was surprised to learn the poor condition of my roof because my understanding is solar companies will not install on roofs with poor condition. Than I learned that this removal service can ONLY be requested via chat using the app on the mobile device, there isn't a computable app on a computer. So I have to type on a tiny screen at all times. It took a long time to get a CS rep, so this naturally took many days of trying, because I would lose my place if I had to answer a call or text, or zone out and go to another app. They really make you jump through hoops. When in finally got hold of someone and answered a whole series of questions, and more waiting of days for something something to happen (I can't remember those triggering events), I finally got a date in **mid January 2025, 4 months from my request!** Right in the middle of raining season in the dead of Winter! I was told my ONLY other option is to WAIT LONGER into the Spring! Meanwhile rain can October and November, my roof was leaking, but they didn't care. I am held hostage by their solar panels. December 2024, a few days before Christmas, I got a call at 4pm asking if I will be available to have them come the next morning at 8am to remove the panels. At this point, I'm desperate as my roof had been leaking. So I took the last minute appointment. I asked them if I would have to wait months again to reinstall, they said they have no idea, I must chat through the app, that's it their department. I asked if they can ask a supervisor what type of timeframe I will be looking at, I was eventually told it would be quick, maybe a couple of weeks. well, that was a BIG LIE! As advised, I immediately went in the app to request reinstallation, well, I can't! Because it is asking for the roof completion date which i was unable to provide at that moment, because it is a rainy week, and the completion date is at the mercy of the weather! I managed to scramble to get roofers to come, paying a premium because they were scheduled for January. I finally finished the roof after Christmas, As the roofers were finishing, I went immediately into the app to request reinstall, guess when is the soonest date?? **April 30, 2025** that's another FOUR MONTHS!! And there's the issue of where to stash those panels. At no point they tell you you need space to hold them. When they called me for that last minute appointment, I was told they will haul away the panels and will give me new ones. When the remover crew arrived, they told me to move my cars out of the garage so they can put t the panels in there. I told them hell no, put them in the yard. So now, I have a stack of ugly panels in my yard for months!!! What is I live in one of those new developments with no yard and no extra garage space?? This is totally UNACCEPTABLE. So we bought our Solar from Solar City and it was a great experience, but since then, after Tesla took over we never hear anything and after several times of trying to reach them to ask questions we get nothing but the run around with no response from a person. We asked several times to speak to a human and got A1 response that they are tring to help, we gave a reason for needing to speak to someone and still got the run around. Our system has been down four times since installed. Always in the peak hot summer months. They always take weeks if not months to repair. All the while I'm losing solar generation and paying higher electric bills. They never reimburse you for the peak production months because rhe do a tally at the end of two years and if you produced what your system is slated to produce even if you would have produces more than that if the system hadn't gone down... you get no compensation for the months lost! We had Tesla install solar panels and some power walls (PW3's) this past spring/summer. The entire process was a nightmare from beginning to end. The Tesla office employee filed our permits incorrectly and with missing information, and after a month and a half, my husband went to the permit office himself and corrected all the paperwork, and our permit was finally issued. They had told us to put a new roof on in early spring before they would put panels on - even though our roof was relatively new and in pristine condition. They were supposed to begin work after we showed proof of a new roof. We had to remove old panels to redo the roof, and then we were stuck in limbo for a couple of months with no solar power and paying ridiculously high bills because they wouldn't schedule the installation until my husband fixed their mistakes on our paperwork. The worst part of this experience was the lack of thought of the "design" team and the extremely poor "customer service." The installers wired the strings panel to panel in a way that is contrary to logic. The sun moves from east to west, and the roof sides we wanted the panels on were wired in a way that if part of a panel was in shade from the upper level of the house or by a tree, not only the panel in the shade would not produce, but the entire rows it was strung with. They did not put it so that each column was independent in respect to the direction the sun moves. I heard them on our outdoor cameras talking about not having enough wire, so they somehow put too many panels in a single conduit. So we were getting less power than we had with the old panels. Tesla said that that was what the plans said and it was done accordingly. The "design" team clearly had our configuration incorrect with respect to how the sun moves over our house. I think they must have had our house orientation facing the wrong direction. The "customer service" was nothing but a joke. They refused to re-string the panels and told us that we were making the lowest numbers on the range we were supposed to expect, but it was still within their acceptable range. We were told we would get double that. We had to hire an independent electrician that was Tesla-certified to have the panels rewired so that the panels in a string were not all shut down when a spot of shade was on one. This was an expensive disaster. The electrician that just redid the wiring configuration was aghast at how Tesla installers didn't know or didn't care to do it right. Our electrician found one conduit that had different wire than the rest to cram more onto one wire, and had to rewire that as well. The power output is way better now that we had to pay someone else to rewire the system. Beware of Tesla Solar. A huge rip-off with zero integrity. read more

I see why so many bad reviews. 1st You cant just call and speak with an associate to discuss solar, you have to schedule an appointment and its usually severals days later. 2nd 3 times I scheduled an appontment and they do not call when scheduled - the 1st two times they called after the scheduled time when I was in meetings so needed to reschedule 3rd time June 17 2025 8:00 am EST scheduled I texted Antinio at 8:20 since I did not get the 8:am scheduled call. They are REFUSING to acknowledge their warranty. I will most likely have to file a lawsuit against them for breach of contract. My warranty is good until 2028 but they absolutely refuse to schedule a technician to even look at it. They have no idea if or what is broke, they just refuse.... I have given them DIRECT DIAGNOSTIC information providing the low production on 3 metrics. First, prior data shows that at peak it used to produce 3kw....now it is only 1.4kw, just unde half. Second, PV1 circuit (2 circuits with 5 panels each on my roof) is only showing 11v in full sun on the inverter. PV2 is showing over 260v. They should be the same. Clearly PV1 is not producing appropriately. Next, I gave them 2 specific trouble codes in the logs (268 and 276) both codes directly state low PV production.... They still refuse to have a technician come out even though the only possible reason is open wire or panel failure.... They give you the runaround "oh panels might be dirty" No they are not, I clean them yearly..."OH, a third party professional should clean them". I point out that that does not explain the functional production of PV2 and the amount of PV1 is not a low efficiency due to dirt, that is like a solid blockout amount of production. So they move on to other excuses. When you point out that there is no possible explanation or rational besides having a technician do the repair, they will still refuse and even hang up on you. They refuse to have you talk to a manager, just hang up....not once...3 times they have done this over 2 months. They absolutely are the LEAST PROFESSIONAL ENTITY I HAVE ENCOUNTERED. Tesla customer service is horrible. We purchased a home with Tesla solar panels (formerly SolarCity) already installed. We hit a point where we can purchase the system outright and was given an estimated cost for purchase. We had two wait several months to process the purchase. Everything was going smoothly until Tesla stated they needed to replace all the panels and inverter for some reason. They came out and did that at no charge. Then we got the appraisal of the system and it was 3x the original amount. But on top of that once they replaced the panels we had a massive roof leak. We called and they sent one person out who told us that it was the way the panels were installed but they took care of the issue and that someone else would contact me regarding the interior drywall damage. No one ever contacted me so when I contacted them they said that they were told it was not due to the solar panels and that it was my issue and I owed them $250.00 for coming out. After some going back and forth they waived the $250.00 and told me the roof was all fixed and they did that as a courtesy but would not be fixing the drywall. I then, since being assured the roof was fixed, paid to have the drywall all repaired. Next rain came and the leak was still there and even worse. We contacted Tesla again and explained the issue. This time they refused to send someone out but said if I sent photos they would take care of the issue. I did that. Then they said they needed more photos and roof inspection. I did that. Then they said that they need a licensed roofer to give an estimate and state what the cause of the leak was. I did that. The estimate and the inspection from the roofing company clearly states that the way the solar was installed was incorrect causing water to pour into our attic and causing damage. There was almost $30,000 worth of estimates to repair the roof and the drywall. Everything Tesla asked for I sent them and provided and yet the contact person states, "we don't agree and even though we agree that the panels were not installed to the plywood correctly we will only assist with the material cost of 2 sheets of plywood." They haven't sent anyone out, ignore the videos, pictures, inspections and reports and then offer to pay what maybe $150 worth of material for a $30,000 damage. I made several offers and tried to be patient we have been dealing with this roof leak since Jan 2022. Its still leaking. That's on top of them charging me $15.00 a month for a non ach payment fee every month since 2021 even though I have signed up for ACH automatic payments 7 times. They have confirmed but cant explain it, and wont credit the charges back. They also will not provide any other means of communication regarding billing other than over the phone, so know record or paper trail. Great job Tesla read more

I have been trying to reach their customer service department by phone for the past few days and all I got is "your wait time is more than 60 minutes." HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Let me start by saying the technology Tesla uses is good. The pricing is also very competitive or at least it was when I purchases an 18KW system with 4 power walls for approximately. $65,000. That is where the good news officially ends. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO WITH TESLA SOLAR. Do not purchase their panels, do not purchase their power walls, definitely do not rely on them for solar calculations and please, for the love of god, do not do anything that makes you rely on this company after purchase in any way shape or form. 1st - They estimated that I was going to get ~22KWH of solar collected. 2 Months after installation the said "our bad the engineer made a mistake its only going to be less then ~17KWH." No offer of compensation, no real apology no taking responsibility and trying to correct anything. Essentially told me "it happens" and I should just accept it. Only after I argued with essentially the whole company did they give me a meagre compensation. 2nd - READ EVERY CONTRACT THEY SEND YOU - as they will change things that you are not discussing. Like for me they all of a sudden removed my performance guarantee when we were discussing panels and power walls with NO mention of the performance guarantee being removed what so ever, I had to, again, argue with the entire company to get this put back in. They did this also after I had already committed to them and I do firmly believe it was done with mal intent and not a simple mistake. 3rd - DO NOT THINK THAT THEY WILL MONITOR ANYTHING - despite their obligation to monitor the system for issues and promptly inform and schedule service when needed THEY WILL NOT DO THIS. Then they will tell you it your responsibility to monitor the system. After which it will take months to solve the issue all the while you are losing solar production and money paying higher electric bills. They failed to notice a faulty inverter on my system. Told me it was my fault for not monitoring when I noticed if have been off for at least 2 months and then took 6 weeks for some Level 2 person to then schedule service for 4 weeks later. As a result I lost over 40% of my solar production FOR THE YEAR. Try to get compensation for it as well as that is a whole other nightmare that always leads to some BS about the way they review production differently then every other company and how its better for you in the long run. This only is so they can avoid having to pay you for shortfalls they contractually are obligated to pay. This cost me $3000 in electric bills and rendered my back up capabilities to essential nothing for almost 5 months during peak solar season. And why is my inverter failing after only 3 years????? How is this quality. I have read other reviews of similar failures which leads me to believe some of their hardware is cheap. The one positive thing I can say is that the techs that show up at your house are actually very nice and will admit that the customer service sucks and tell you about how EVERYONE they meet rightfully complains. BOTTOM LINE -- AVOID DEALING WITH TESLA SOLAR LIKE THE PLAGUE. THEY SUCK WORSE THEN YOU CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE. Literally go with anyone else. I am very disappointed with the solar service. I found out that Tesla acquired Solar City's customer base, if you are in my situation, be careful and check your panels. Our date of use was June 2015, in 2020 I noticed something strange on the roof, there were tools, a hose up there, and a large number of shingles missing. I called them and came and put the shingles missing only. Last month I noticed major ceiling damage caused by a leak, one of which was mold. I hired someone to repair it and they informed me that it was due to the installation of solar panels. The solar company didn't take responsibility for this because the warranty had already expired (at the time of the contract only a year warranty was offered). Now to repair the roof I need to remove and reinstall the panels and Tesla charges me 499 for that service or hire someone else but it has to be approved for them, I still pay for these panels. The reason for my review is that this service is not aligned with Tesla's prestige but seems like now its reputation is not a priority anymore. Customer service is not the best and I want to aware you of the risks of installing Solar panels, maybe the future is not a promising good one. Folks, I finally got some good news! I got the approval yesterday from the utility company to power on my solar power system. It was obtained 3 and half months after installation! To achieve this required blood pressure meds in addition to the hundred plus messages and emails to Tesla. Also, required a threat of legal action for breach of contract. Before taking that step, I filed a complaint last week with the New York State Department of Public Service. Not sure if this was the reason that Tesla submitted the last two documents this week to complete intersection application. But I'm sure it didn't hurt. Literally the worst customer service experience of my life! Nothing positive to say! Signed up in March, got an email a month later saying the design was taking longer than expected. Then, last weekend, cancelled my order with not even a vague explanation! My neighbor also signed up around the same time had his order cancelled a day before mine after waiting 3+ months as well. Terrible! Tried to visit the local service center since I have a car, but nope, nobody was there that works in energy. Tried to call multiple support #'s, which acts like you're going to talk to someone, and then says the queue has been turned off and suggests putting in a request online for someone to call me back. Unreal. Been over a week, still no phone call and never will be! Literally zero transparency which is exactly how they want it. Got lucky that I had a contact at tesla which was able to tell me that they don't think my roof can handle many panels. They look at grainy satellite photos and claim that I can't put more than 8 panels on my roof which is absolute nonsense! Multiple neighbors have the same house design from the same builder, all have 15+ panels on their roofs from tesla and others. Not sure why they would think my house would be any different. Also confirmed with the city's building department that all these neighbors with solar had permits pulled and 15+ panels. I truly wonder how this company gets anything done. Total disaster. Yes, tesla will have the best pricing, but literally everything else will suffer as a result and your project will take months if not years longer. So not worth it. You're better off going with a local solar or roofing company that will treat you like an actual valued customer. You can pair almost any solar panel with a powerwall. Do a search for powerwall dealers and you can put in your zip code on their site to find local installers. Call multiple and get several quotes before deciding. Guaranteed your project will take only a few months. You'll end up with the exact same end result with the tesla app for monitoring and control of the entire system. I had Solar City panels installed in 2015. A few years ago, Tesla purchased SC. In 2020, I had a problem with panels, and Tesla replaced them. My lease is not up until 2033. This week I just noticed a leak in my garage, directly below the panels. I spoke to a Tesla rep and she told me there is only a year warranty on the work done, and thus the panels are out of warranty. They want to charge 10k for a "remove and reinstall" to allow me to have a roofer to fix the leak- which they say they are not liable for. This is absolutely outrageous. They clearly did not seal the holes anchoring the system correctly, but though my lease is far from over, they are not liable for the damage they caused. When I signed up for the lease, the rep told me SC would charge $500 to take the system off when I needed a new roof. He also reassured me if there were ever any problems- because I am on a lease- it is all covered. Yes, I see that this is my stupidity for not carefully reading through the 25-page contract. Conveniently, they now charge 10k to have the panels removed and reinstalled (though the system was only worth $15000 in 2013). Essentially, they have found a way to make significant money off of the damage that they cause homeowners. They also told me that if someone else (besides Tesla) takes off the panels- that voids the warranty of the panels- which still has 10 years left. And though the sales rep who signed me up for Tesla reassured me that it would only cost me $500 for the removal and reinstall, that price was never specified in my contract, so they can now legally charge me 10k for it. I recently installed Tesla solar panels and have been very disappointed with the installation. When I contacted Telsa they sent a technician to review the site. I told the technician that I am planning to install an EV charging and a heat pump unit which I found out was ignored. After the installation I found out that I needed to upgrade my electric panel to accommodate for additional units. I complained to Tesla and was told they do the installation per solar panel requirements and not the homeowner! I initially had solar city before they were taken over by Tesla. Since I've had Tesla, getting a hold of of a live agent is impossible. Customer Service is horrible and their automated service is just as bad. Under solar city every year, I received a rebate. Since Tesla took over, it's been like pulling teeth to get my rebate. Last year they told me it was because my panels were dirty. Since then, I have cleaned them twice. I'll have to see what they say this year. At this point, I don't feel comfortable referring Tesla Energy as a solar option. The installation team was great. Your company's sales process and then service were not so much so. First of all, my sales rep was not local, I didn't think it would matter, but I was wrong. I was surprised to learn that I had moss on my roof, which cost me over $2,000 to remove. I also had to dig up a small tree from the side of my house. An on-site visit in the early stages of the sales process would have gone a long way to my understanding of the total cost of the installation. I signed a $42,110 deal, and you can afford to do on-site visits. My sales rep was courteous and professional; if I had to sell something, I would hire him. He went out of his way to ensure that I understood that Tesla Energy was not related to Elon's Tesla. But because he is not from the area, he could not help with finding someone to remove the moss from my roof. You probably think that it's my roof and a quick Google search would have solved the problem, but I needed this job to be fully outsourced and made that clear. I am not a handy person with tools. Both my wife and I work full-time jobs, and we are full-time parents to children that are 4 and 8 years old (that means our "free time" is spent cooking breakfast & dinner, doing homework, washing clothes ect, ect, ect). We are involved in our church, and I assistant coach baseball and football, she's on the PTA ect ect ect. For this type of job, you need to have community contacts. My Account Managers, yes, plural, as I was passed off by my first one. The first account manager is professional, and she called and introduced herself, and we then communicated via text and email. We set up an install date, and the team came to do the installation and found moss on the roof. They informed her of it and told her that it was too dangerous to do the job. I was disappointed but fine with rescheduling because I didn't want to see anybody get hurt. My Account Manager called me to inform me that I needed to remove the moss, having never had to deal with moss on my roof, I asked her for a starting point. She suggested that I could climb up there and power wash it myself or hire someone. After that, we had a testy conversation, which ended with me asking her to email me future conversations. That was in November. Just a quick note on the power washing. It took the power washing company two days to clean my roof. He brought now heavy equipment to lift the power washing tools to the roof. When I told him that Tesla thought I could do the job myself, he assured me that I could not. I've attached the receipt for your review. I would recommend his company to friends and family. I didn't hear back from Tesla until January 13th (going by the date stamp on my text messages), and that was when I met my second account manager. She was also polite and courteous. She tried to schedule two installation dates that the installation team could not honor because they didn't have time after their morning installation. Keep in mind that we are installing 21 panels, and she was trying to fit the installation in as a second job of the day. This third time was a charm; I did ask her to keep in mind the size of the installation and schedule something in the morning or as a first visit for the day. Installation went well. The best part of this experience was your installation team. They got the job done and were honest about having broken some tiles on my roof, which they promised would be repaired. I have pictures of my room before and after the moss removal, so I am aware of the good condition of the tiles on my roof before and after the installation. Someone was supposed to repair the tile at the time of the inspection from the energy company, unfortunately, it was raining that day, so he could go on the roof. He promised Tesla would come back and fix the tiles later. I am still waiting for someone to fix the tiles on my roof. Two things that really stand out 1. The tiles on my roof are still not fixed, and we have been getting a lot of rain here in southern California. 2. It is March 30th, I signed my contract on 9/27/22, and I am still paying the local electricity company. 3. Today, 2/19/2024 my roof started to leak. read more

Having solar was not a savings. Just had the solar removed. Trying to deal with Tesla is a nightmare. Cannot reach a real person on the phone. Only can chat with employees and you can never get back to the same employee for follow up. Glad to be done with them. Think twicw before installing. read more

From Install to support Everything about working with Tesla has been a complete and total nightmare. As everyone well knows and I have discovered for myself. Tesla Customer support is the worst support I have ever encountered in my life. The 2nd worst experience does not come close to EACH Tesla interaction. Install took months with Tesla only showing up after no communication for weeks on end. Not until I called would they respond "Oh we are coming out tomorrow." And then not show up. I would call again and get the same game. This lasted for 4 months before the install was finally complete. And it has been the same with service. First, good luck getting to a rep to request service. Good luck getting the rep to understand the issue. And good luck getting it scheduled. When they finally do show up... Good luck repeating all of the above getting them back out to continue work and finally re-install the panels. I will never purchase from them again and I am actively searching for another company to take over the panel's management. They are not worth it. Stay far far away from Tesla. I have no doubt what they are doing will be found illegal in the next decade it is that horrific. read more
