I hate that this place is so far from my house. Stopped by today for some lunch on my way from Houston to Dallas based on their Yelp score. I ordered a few meats - and owner recommended that I go with a 2 meat plate to save money. So, I did. I ordered brisket and ribs. Both were soooooooo good. Many places claim to have awesome bbq, but in most cases, I leave feeling a bit let down. Not so with Texans Barbecue and Catering, Their food is the real deal. The brisket has an amazing flavor that gets even better with their delicious barbecue sauce. And those ribs...if you have dentures, you can devour these ribs without your teeth, haha. It literally falls off the bone. The staff are very friendly. They said hi to folks be name so I take it they have a lot of regulars. I have to figure out how to get up here more so I can be one of those regulars. I posted some pics of the place inside. This is truly a hidden BBQ gem in Willis. I tried this place for the first time yesterday and it was DELICIOUS. My order: Sliced Brisket Sandwhich combo with Baked Potato Casserole Sausage Sandwhich Smoked brisket Mac & Cheese (Thursday Special) Pros: Quality/Taste: Everything I tried was simply mouth watering. The brisket was smoked and cooked to perfection, the baked potato casserole (similar to potato salad texture) was out of this world and I could marry that Mac & cheese lol. Location: Right off FM 830, about 5-6 miles from I-45, it is worth the stop. The pricing is SPOT ON. I will drive out of my way for this place. Cons: Advertisement: I wish I knew about this place sooner and not spent my money on these chain BBQ places around the area. I'd recommend running a few AD's monthly. Great service. Cute place. Workers and owners very passionate. I had spicy chicken and ribs. Spicy chicken was very unique. Like a stuffed chicken breast with jalapeños. I really liked it. The ribs were perfectly cooked. Not too tough and not falling apart. But I felt like they lacked a good smoke flavor. And I like ribs with a little crust. These were soft inside and out. This is amazing BBQ. Ordered the small family pack. Came with a pound of brisket, pound of sausage and half a pound of chicken. Two sides which we got baked potato casserole and Cole slaw. We also got a pint of the Thursday special Mac and cheese. Service was super fast order came out within minutes. The fatty brisket may be the best brisket I've ever had. Sausage was very good. Chicken was average. Baked potato casserole and Mac and cheese were outstanding. Cole slaw was meh. I would eat here everyday if I could. read more

Tried this restaurant and frankly was not impressed. Yes, the owner was nice but the food was just ok. We had a chopped beef sandwich-they did not give or offer bbq sauce. What's up with that? We also had a Mac & cheese side with chopped beef on top. It was lukewarm. The lady taking our order said several times that it would have bacon on top. No bacon that we could see. Also, they do not have a restroom available to customers. Seems unsanitary to me. We won't return. read more

How the once great BBQ location has fallen since the new managment. First the positives. Not much has changed from the menu or the inside and the people are friendly (still a family owned business). The sides are the same recipe.. except for the ranch style beans which are a definite improvement. Now for the negative: I've tried the location 4 times since the new owners took over. Initially, I thought it was new owner growing pains. The owner even asked for my feedback early on and I provided it the first two times.... Mainly that the meat was not been smoked enough and was missing the Texan flavor they were know for all these years. I think they have the recipes but they either don't know how to smoke (slow and go) or they are rushing the product. My family was away this week so I stopped to try again. Got a two meat plate with brisket and sausage, sides were baked potato casserole and the new ranch beans... both sides were great. Brisket was under smoked (bland flavor.. missing the old bark) and the spicy sausage (same starting product) looks to be grilled instead of smoked. Overall a fairly poor showing for what used to be an amazing gem where friends of mine further away in the Woodlands would drive up. Note that they've extended their business hours which is great... but maybe they simply don't have enough time to produce great BBQ with their other life activities. read more

3 meat plate with potato salad and baked potato casserole was good. The regular chicken was juicy and the sliced brisket was good. The regular sausage was the favorite though. We also tried ribs which turned out to need bbq sauce. The star of the meal was the the Baked Potato Casserole for sure. read more

After reading the positive reviews I decided to try it. I definitely ordered the wrong meat, spicy chicken. It was full of fat and I had to do a lot of picking to get to the actual chicken which wasn't much after all the fat was removed. Even though it was supposed to be spicy, there was not much kick to it or taste for that matter. The beans and potato salad were also nothing to rave about. Not sure I would return but if I did the spicy chicken is a no go. I will say they are nice people there though so that's always a plus. read more

This is one of those "Hole in the walls on the side of the road" that can't be missed!!! Good- The Ribs are great, but get there early so you get the best selection. They have been known to run out. Bad- Not open every day so you need to know the schedule. Luckily we live close so it's not a problem, but if you don't know it's a shame to drive all that way and find out they aren't open on Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays. Ugly-- Don't expect a fancy joint this place is practically a shack on the side of the road but it's charming and the food is terrific. You can even stay in your car and use the drive thru. I've been here now 3 times. The first time EVERYTHING was fantastic. 2nd & 3rd time I got the sliced beef sandwich with the sauce, pickles, onions and jalapeños on the side and beans for a side. Both times the brisket has been cold and very dry as if it where a few days old. This place USE to be the best BBQ around... seems as if the owner is beginning to get worn out. McKenzies (first night in town) - OH NO YOU DIDN'T (and won't again) Vernon's - its ok if you don't want to drive to better stuff Vernon's again for the brisket, just to make sure (and they are dog friendly which rates highly with us) Texans BBQ and Catering - the heavens parted We could barely get out the door with our stash and tried the brisket. We thought we showed great restraint by trying a small piece of the chicken breast (moist, succulent and well-flavored), and the spicy sausage stuffed with jalapenos and cheese then put it all away to drive home to the other side of Lake Conroe.For the most part, our order remained in tact all the way. Next scene is standing over our kitchen sink with Margarita in one hand and a piece of delight in other. We competed for the tub of sauce. Finally I opened the pork ribs. They were perfectly done, not fall off the bone but easy to coax off the bone when lips were applied. I swear, without the sauce, these were wonderful with great flavor. With the sauce, well,it was just a perfect balance of flavors. We decided we messed up by not ordering more of everything and, sigh, will have to go back. Oh Darn. I live in the Houston Heights, and even though Pinkerton's is down the street, which is really good BBQ, if you want the best in the Houston area, Texan's is worth the hour drive (no traffic ) to Willis on the north side of lake Conroe. Ribs are fall off the bone tender, brisket has a smoke line I've never seen before, and the baked potato casserole is a must try. The sauce makes it all come together. Just excellent! But get there early and plan your trip because when they run out, they're out. Also, they aren't open every day and they don't have a public bathroom. It's all about the BBQ here. read more

Rating this place is extremely difficult. I will try to explain why. Make no mistake about it, this is the best BBQ is Montgomery County, Walker County, and the surrounding area. Its not, however, on par with the top restaurants in the State (City Market, Coopers, Kruez's, Franklins, or even the semi-local Killen's). That is mainly because we lack serious BBQ in these parts. Please do not take that as saying Texans BBQ is anything short of awesome and worthy of a trip at least once a week. I will judge them against their local peers and give them 5 stars. Their chicken is awesome, and the best thing on the menu. The ribs are awesome and the baked potato casserole must contain some form of addictive narcotics. It cannot be described, only experience. I think their BBQ sauce is top notch. Types of BBQ sauces range across the State and I think this semi sweet sauce may be my favorite. The tea is good and the desserts are awesome. All the staples are in order for this to be a fantastic BBQ joint. Make sure to visit this hidden treasure. You wont be disappointed. Unless you forget to plan ahead and visit them Sunday-Wednesday when they are closed, but that would be your fault. read more

Was on vacation from Oregon, and I had lunch here every day. First let me say that the people that work here, are truly the nicest people you will ever meet. My wife wanted some chips with our pulled pork sandwich, and the lady behind the counter saw that I was a Veteran, (my hat), and gave me the chips for free, only after she insisted on shaking my hand! (I almost cried! I have never been thanked for my service in the Army Special Forces back home). Now for the food.....EXCELLENT! That's all I have to say!! Everything was so delicious, and I had just about everything on the menu while I was there on vacation. I was fishing on lake Conroe with my Army buddies, (and a Navy Seal), for 10 days, drinking whiskey and telling lies, and having lunch here every day! Never had nothing but a great experience.
