Red Oak Auto Repair Center is a beautiful new limestone and red brick building on Ovilla Road near where we live in Glenn Heights. They've been open a few months and we decided to drop by and present our truck's problem. We had been told that the EGR valve and gasket needed replaced and our usual oil change and simple repairs place would be unable to do it. We were greeted immediately by a friendly young man who introduced himself as Mo. Mo listened, understood what another place had to say about the issue and offered to do a free diagnostic while we waited. I have to say that the waiting area is more like a living room than your standard waiting area. There are two distinct areas. One side has a coffee bar with snacks and a refrigerator with drinks and water. The unisex restroom is on that side in the corner. There's a four kettle chair seating group with a table, rug and a wall TV. Across the room is a comfy long couch and two chair set with tables, large area rug and a wall TV. The light green walls were a wonderful change from automotive or industrial design and there was lots of natural light. Just a lovely airy welcoming room. We had showed up somewhere around closing time not knowing really that they would start on the repair. They choose to and in the end, we waited until they closed. They had to go buy a part and on the Ram 2006, the part was very difficult to get to and then get out, as it was rusted in place. Mo kept us aware of everything as it developed and offered to drive us home and bring the truck to us after the repair was done in the morning. We lived but a few miles away. The repair with tax, labor and parts was $324.75. They worked hard on this repair. This truck has never been housed in a garage. Dodge Rams live long but this is the second engine. It's been awhile since we have had a repair other than A/C or a turn signal. Given what Red Oak Auto Repair did for us and the great rapport we established, I can say we'll definitely be back!

This is a story about a Dallas to Houston road trip gone awry, that happened as I was leaving on a…read moreweekend evening after all the tire shops had closed. It started with the telltale 'thump-thump-thump-thump' sound of a tire that had a hex bolt - including washer - impaling one of the rear tires. After pulling over into a major truck stop that included 7 different flavors of cappuccinos, (but not a single sealing foam for tires!), I was about to give up when I spotted a couple of Mexican tow-truck drivers hanging-out outside. Since my tire was still fully inflated, they told me to drive down I-45 to this joint that was straight out a of Mexican 'Vulcanizadora' casting agency, but with better tires, cleaner facilities and great service. 14 minutes and $8 later, I was back on the road with a patched tire. ¡Viva Mexico! ~ land of practicality.
