We had two prime ribs February 2. Very expensive extremely chewy. Will not go back. The service was good.

I have tried a different dishes three different times at this location. None were worthy of a good review. The service is poor. The best part is the peanuts you can throw on the floor. Very disappointing. read more

Everyone thinks they are a damn food critic with Yelp. Don't listen to these people that they are too much chili and got a stomach ache or the beef wasn't all too good. Come on seriously? This place has the best bread ever. Butter is so good! Staff is very friendly and usually get everything correct and if not they give you a discount and fix the order. The food is good one day and the next it is not. It's all about consistency and Texas Corral does not have it.

Dear Sir(s): Our family has had great experiences at your establishment ever since you opened in Highland IN and because we didn't lived far away it was always our go to place when we wanted a "family" night out. We moved to Portage 3 years ago and was so happy that we had a T C only 4 minutes from our new home. After several visits we noticed a decline in service..i.e. wait staff being rude - food orders were wrong - waiting at one visit 20 minutes before receiving our drink order of soda and water - staff seemed like it was a chore to wait on you. We realized that the staff was made up of mostly of teens so we just chalked it up to "teens being teens". One nigh on our sons birthday we went for his dinner. My husband ask for his baked potato with no sour cream and the waiter (who was a college student) could not seem to bring him a baked potato without sour cream .. we sent it back 4 times before we got one without sour cream. Then after another long wait - because the food order was all wrong my husband's steak was cooked so done that he could hardly cut it (he always orders his medium rare) my son cut into his roasted chicken breast and a stream of blood flew over his shoulder into the next booth my son pushed it back and I though he was gonna be sick right there. The waiter who was standing there saw what had happened just said "wow" and walked away I'm telling you he literately walked away .. so by then I had had enough we had been there for an hour and a half and our food still had to be returned -again- and with 2 grand children by this time were hungry AND very tired of sitting that long (we didn't know it was gonna take that long to get our order). I finally managed to get the manager - because when your staff walk by and you try to get their attention and it's not their table they will / do ignore you. The manager comped my sons dinner we left vowing never to return and we have not been back & that was in February of 2012. A few weeks ago we received coupons in the mail and I held onto them telling my husband maybe they have re-done things and re-trained staff so lets try them again. So last Friday May 23, 2014 around 4:00 pm - we decided to have a early dinner. We walked in and there was no one at the sign in desk, we stood there for about 5 minutes, no one in sight but I heard people talking I finally stepped over and looked into the dinning area and standing at the bar was a staff member (young woman with Texas uniform on) talking to a man seated at the bar (she was not behind the bar but standing in the isle) she looked at me dead in the eye and before I could say anything she turned her back to me and continued her conversation with the man. My husband and I turned and started to walk out and as I was going to the door I said out loud "well if no one wants to seat us then I'll take my business somewhere else" as I was saying this I turned and looked back at her and she just smiled at me, she didn't even try to come up to us or say wait I will help you nothing. So my family will not visit your restaurants anymore and its sad because my granddaughter who is 5 years old loves to go there to eat not only does she love your rolls but she loves the music and throwing peanut shells on the floor without getting into trouble plus she gets a balloon. Her first "family dinner night outing" was at TC in Portage at 3 weeks old. I'm glad those are the memories she has and not the ones we have. Typical Texas Corral. Food is good enough, price is ok, service was good.

On a road trip and wanted a sit down dinner, not fast food. Two couples were ahead of us and told a 15 minute wait. We were told the same. Other two couples seated after 15 minutes, then our turn. No one exited the restaurant during this time. As we are seated, we notice that there are at least 10 or more tables empty! A couple were not cleaned off yet, but the majority were. Why couldn't we be seated right away? Steaks ordered rare and one medium. The rare ones were cooked medium and the medium was well done. Didn't want to take the time to wait for more to cook so we told her we would eat them as is even though they weren't right. First time in a long time that we used steak sauce on our steaks! Ordered 1/2 slab of ribs and my daughter ordered mashed potatoes. Both of those items were forgot. Was brought a full slab of ribs instead of 1/2 for the mix up. Ate one rib. Sauce was good but ribs were very fatty. Staff could be friendlier. Next time we head to Michigan in a couple weeks we will not be stopping here. read more

Took my daughter here for 21st bd. I usually go to the merrillville one, but with declining service and quality, were making portage our new TC. Worth the extra drive. Service was awesome, Stacey was our waitress and did awesome. She was always around if we needed anything, and even snapped a couple pictures for us and ordered the birthday song for my blushing daughter. Dinner was great! One of the best steaks ive had in a while. Non of us had complaints. I didnt catch the managers name but he checked with us on everything and made sure all was well. I believe he used to work at the merrillville reasturaunt back when it was good. Maybe thats why service isnt great at merrillville any longer. Hes def leading a great TC in portage. Thank u guys. It was fun. Just wish i wouldnt have left half my dinners in take out containers on the table, was looking forward to snacks later. Guess we were having too much fun to remember the boxes. Absolutely awful taco salad made with Cole slaw hardly any tomato ground beef did not even have taco flavor,wife had smoked chicken almost as bad no smokey flavor scrawny bird, best part she said of her meal was the ales potato.Had to find our waiter pay our bill Since I can't give no stars this review will suffice read more

Went here a few nights ago and will never go back. The bartender, Danielle, who claims to have worked here for sixteen years was horrible. She spent the whole time talking to people she knew, meanwhile our food came out wrong because she didn't pay attention to what we ordered because she was so worried about if her friend was going to get laid and if they were going bowling. When our food came out, burger was not cooked properly, order was wrong and sandwich was skimpy and the three pieces of meat on the sandwich were over over cooked and microwaved and dried out. Not at all worth the money and we left without eating the nasty food that was served to us. read more

We were going to go to Texas Roadhouse, but their power was out, so we ended up here. Spent $100 with tip, and it was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. Fried catfish was soggy and tasteless, salad was a bowlful of watery iceberg lettuce with crappy Bleu Cheese dressing. And the drinks? well, I don't even know how anyone could make such bad drinks . . . the frozen strawberry margarita looked like pudding, had NO alcohol, and tasted terrible. My daughters Bloody Mary was BROWN!!!! What the heck kind of tomato juice do they use??? and again, no alcohol, and tasted awful. Her chopped steak was also dry with not very much flavor. The only good thing on the table was the basket of rolls. My son in law didn't complain about his meal, but then again, he'll eat anything. Thanks a lot Nipsco. Cause of a power outage, I wasted $100. Don't waste your money . . . Go to Texas Roadhouse!!! For the same money, you get outstanding food, a great atmosphere, and fantastic drinks! read more

For a steakhouse there chose of "other meals" is amazingly creative. My fiancé and I go here a lot and I often have trouble deciding what I want because I have several favorites. ( And I haven't even tried the steak yet). If you like pasta with a bit of a twist I would try the Santa Fe pasta. The dishes are large enough to bring leftovers home. read more

Texas Corral used to be one of my husband's favorite restaurants and one we'd take our kids to often being that it's one of the few (non fast food) restaurants in our area. One of my favorite meals was the endless shrimp because I love seafood.... until yesterday. We were told that we could not share and we could not take the remaining shrimp home with us. Mind you, it was only me and him last night and usually on date nights, you share food because that's somewhat romantic or whatever. This is no offence to the waitress, she did nothing wrong and we made sure to overcompensated her for her troubles and willingness to hear us complain and fuss at the manager. We will not be back to this establishment not because I'm offended by your cheap shrimp not being able to come home with me after stuffing myself with as much as my stomach would allow because it's endless shrimp *insert sarcasm*, but because this restaurant actually believes it can police how we eat and is perfectly fine with wasting food. After all, what else would you be doing if you do not allow patrons to take home food they did not finish and fully paid for? Furthermore, there was no 'disclaimer' given to us beforehand and it's mentioned nowhere on the ad that you proudly have plastered all over your restaurant. Also, your manager at the Portage location is terrible, he callously stood there and let us complain and threaten to not come back and only offered us an, "Ok, sorry you feel that way." I'm more disgusted by the fact that you're not a buffet like Golden Corral and expect people to pay for endless anything and leave behind what they couldn't finish to be thrown away. read more

My wife and I went to This Texas Coral today as an early lunch for Father's day because she works sunday. We both had ordered a 9 ounce sirloin with mashed potatoes. I wanted mine medium well (slight pink) she wanted hers well done(no pink). The waiter was very nice and attentive. Once we got our food the waiter asked us to cut into it amd make sure it's how we wanted. My wife's wad perfect for her. Mine on the other hand was very mushy and grey looking. I had the waiter bring it back and she had another one cooked amd brought it out. This second steak was completely undercooked(rare). I cut into it and immediately asked for the manager. While I'm waiting for the manager I notice two other tables are sending their steaks back. The manager comes and questions me about my meal. I tell him I am not paying for this meal, he agrees and give me a $10.00 card for my next visit. I won't be going back there. Whoever is cooking these steaks needs to be retrained or fired a the least. My intentions on the visit to Texas coral were to go in and eat a great steak. It turned out to be a horible mistake that actually caused me to get a very upset stomach and eventually led to me vomiting once I arrived home. Needless to say I give this place a horible review and I will never go back here again. read more
