Start off with what's important: are the ribs good? Yes. What originally drew me to the location wasn't any advertising, but spotting the smokers going around the side of the building. A lot of BBQ places will advertise thing as BBQ despite being braised or roasted, but in this situation they have real smokers producing real BBQ. General atmosphere was fun and friendly So: why it wasn't 5 stars. First, the waits are long. Even if the meat you ordered is technically already done, you will not get your meal in a timely manner. In my opinion, if the meat's already ready, there probably isn't a great reason to not get your order within 5-10 minutes, and if something wasn't ready, I'd imagine that they could give you a heads up and let you decide if you want to wait. Second: they aren't abiding by CDC guidelines for safety. Under different circumstances, everything they're handling is pretty thoroughly cooked and is not conspicuous for food safety issues. But the fact that the meals weren't going out quickly meant that people were cramming into a small enclosed area where social distancing is impossible, nobody (staff included!) were wearing masks, surfaces weren't being sanitized with any regularity. When you pay with a card at the register, you sign with a finger on the same tablet everyone else uses, with no quick pauses to even spray or wipe it down. If I was reviewing this place a year ago, it wouldn't matter so much, but I visited this location before restaurants even officially reopened and people were cramming together and opening up containers and eating inside. Would *not* be surprised if this location wound up being the source of some COVID cases later on. Third: After waiting 45-50 minutes for a pretty straightforward order using meats and sides they already had on hand, I was still solicited for a tip, which I gave -- I understand that the people working here have families and they need support too. But it feels a lot better to give that gratuity when service has actually been speedy and efficient and clean, and I didn't get that. Fourth: substitutions for both meats and sides seem to be always extra, which isn't a huge deal but I'd expect that the default things they're bringing you are incredibly strong. Most meals come with beans (not BBQ baked beans, just beans) and potato salad. And both of them are just adequate, they're decent eating but they can't stand up to the big flavors in the ribs. It's not clear to me if it'd make sense to pay extra for different sides because I don't know if I trust that the other sides would pair better. The fact that I had this much critical stuff to say and still gave it 3 stars should hint at how important I saw the ribs. I'd wait until COVID is over to come back, because it's not clear to me that they're taking it seriously. read more

Finally found a legit BBQ spot in Glendale..... Wife and I stoped in last night taking a chance on a new spot. First of all the young man who helped us was very personable and and made us feel very welcome, but the food! These folks know how to get down on some Ribs, Mac&Cheese was homemade and delicious, the Fried Cabbage better then any I've had besides my Grandmas the Ball & Chain had the Pulled BBQ Chicken sandwich and it meted in your mouth it was so good. Come to find out these folks hustled their delicious food on the corner of 35th Ave. & Dunlap/Olive Ave. for a couple of years in the evenings until they apparently got enough cheese to open this godsend of a BBQ spot. I smell the smoke rolling through the intersection of 51st Ave and Olive Ave every day and couldn't wait to try this grub and am very glad that we did. Oh! Forgot to mention my man hooked me up with a sample of the house KOOL AID (custom mix of flavors it was Red and delicious) speaking of samples..... they even give free taste tests, sign outside says so. A mixed experience. The owner(?) was a really nice guy, pleasant and helpful; but he was alone, overworked, and there was brisket sitting outside by the smoker that wasn't going to be ready for dinner. Ordered three meals. Brisket meal was delivered as ribs, which my wife ate anyway since she also likes ribs. Brisket was extremely marbled; I'm used to lean, so it wasn't my favorite. The hot links were tasty, though not spicy. The chicken was fall-off-the-bone perfection, and plenty of it. My wife said that for the price, the ribs were short and spare on meat. Collard greens were on my bucket list and I enjoyed mine. Shop offered plastic forks, but no knives at all. Parking lot was very tight for trucks. Only two tables available for eat-in. Excellent food and the service is even better. Wayne (the owner) prepares, cooks and serves all the food! Super personable and just a great guy. My husband and I have the BBQ chicken and ribs, both were the out of this world. The butt kicking green beans are true to their name and the Mac-n-Cheese is great too! Wanted to try this place based on what I saw on their website. First thing the Ribs were SPOT ON!!!! I grab a rib by the bone and I got just a Bone...Meat so tender it Slid off the bone!!!! But I ordered a 2 Meat plate Ribs & Links but got Chicken instead of Links and I don't really care for BBQ chicken I like my chicken FRIED! Beans are nothing to cheer for and WALMART has the exact Potato Salad. My first time spending my money here and I feel my last unless I have an appetite for RIBS....to me the only thing they do right. Charging .50 cents for extra BBQ sauce was a MAJOR TURN-OFF! I hate to rate a black owned business with 3 stars but honestly they should get 1. Me and my husband often come here for the hot links maybe 5 times now and after many failed attempts I'll just never go back. Bread is off brand (Great Value) and too much sauce makes the bread soak which you'll have to eat the link without the bread after 1 bite due to it falling apart. Stoped for lunch with my dad on a whim. The pulled pork was juicy and tender. It had a very thick smoke ring and was full of flavor. The regular bbq sauce is good. I get that businesses are busy but 2 hours to get food. WTH. How hard is it to make 2 dinners. Won't order here again. Worst bbq I have literally ever had. The check and and sausage have the weirdest texture. Almost chalky. The beans are horrible and the potato salad tasted like the stuff from the grocery store. I am definitely a fan of this place and would recommend it to family and friends. The food is delicious, the only issue I had when ordering through grubhub was that they run out of some of the the items listed. For instance I ordered chicken but they had run out so it was replaced with sausage. Ir was still good and that's saying a lot because I hate sausage but these were good. My husband and I were saying how there are no Real BBQ places here in AZ. I like this place they smoke all there meats and make there sides fresh; however, they are a little pricey and you don't get alot of food but the flavors are there. It has a mom and pop feel, as a husband and wife duo run the BBQ shack. A special thanks to the owner because he made me a special ordered Turkey Leg that was Amazing for mothers day (eventhough I'm not a mother). So it was one of the hottest days of the year (117 deg) and during the lunch hour. For some reason I was craving ribs. I had been keeping an eye on TRS for about a year now to see if they could withstand the test of time and I decided to see what they were about on this really hot day. I ordered a half slab with spicy BBQ sauce. The customer service was pretty good. The female and younger dude behind the counter were pretty solid considering how hot it was. The dining area was clean and cool. I'm giving them 4 stars because the meat was on point. They definitely passed my picky pallet for BBQ. The meat was cooked on the grill (not baked) and kept or finished in a hot box, making it very tender , falling off the bone. The quality of the ribs was very good as well, very meaty and pretty lean. If these guys should ever decide to kiss the their ribs on the grill prior to serving they will be fighting folks off :-) Be ready TRS, I'll be returning for some links and sides. We had dinner here last night. I had chicken, my husband had chicken and ribs. Everything was amazing and the atmosphere was wondeful. The owner's second grade daughter rang up our order with a little supervision from her mom. This restaurant is definitely a labor of love and you can taste it in everything from the meats to the desserts. They're a tiny hole-in-the-wall place, but the best restaurants usually are. So I've been wanting to try this place after reading all of the positive reviews.. I was disappointed, the ribs were okay but there were a few that were so overcooked I couldn't eat them after paying $65+ for our food I would expect everything to be edible. The potato salad was just okay and green beans tasted like salty canned green beans. The chicken was dry. Also I thought it strange they don't let you pick your sides for the three meat combo? I have ordered few times at this place and don't get me wrong they know how to do the ribs, the problem is they want to sell you what they want, not what I ordered, I ask specifically for 3 plates of baby back ribs and is mot what I got, I repeat about 5 times to the person who took the order if they had the baby backs ribs because they had sold me hard tips before and he told me they have them so turn around when I was about to enter my driveway and head to this place and wait like 15 minutes for my order which is fine, the Owner Dwane made my order and he didn't care for what I ask for, I call back the attendant and he apologized and told me he told the Owner what I ask for , feel sorry for the guy to get complaints for something he didn't do. read more
