All Roadhouses seem to be the same, which means the same great food and same great service. It's always packed which is why we don't go more often. Prime rib is actually a decent price but medium rare can run out at the end of the night. If you don't mind noisy, crowded, and the wait, its a great place to eat. Even though this is a chain restaurant, it is still a great American down home red meat joint. Everything from the host/hostess to the waiter/waitress scream excellent service. There are places that you can tell as a customer that the staff doesn't want to be at their paid jobs. This is not one of them. The menu is great, and if you are not a steak person, there are other options like chicken. The best part is while you are waiting for the food to arrive you have hot buttered bread that is anything but delicious and peanuts that sit on the table and you get to drop on the shells on the floor when you are done with them. I really tried to make it here every Friday when I was in college because they gave you free potato skins with every entrée order. Awesome sauce. read more

Not impressed. I ordered my food online from their website, where it very clearly stated that they do provide curbside service. I showed up at exactly The time that they said my food would be ready, which was 45 minutes after I ordered it. Could not find any curbside parking space, so I parked as close to the door as I could. I called the restaurant to let them know that I was there to pick up my food. The person who answered informed me that they don't do curbside and I have to come inside, even though I told her that their website states that they do, she told me they quit doing that a month ago. So I had to get out of my vehicle and get through the rowdy drunken crowd surrounding both the door and inside the entrance in order to go over to the carry out counter and get my food. Crowd outside might not have been as rowdy if they were not allowing them to take their alcoholic beverages outside into the parking lot! Then once I got home, I realized that they did not provide me with any utensils or napkins. The food was also disappointing. My onion blossom was either soggy or stuck together in huge clumps. The parts that I could eat, the breading was falling off. The house salad was OK, it's pretty hard to mess that up. But I ordered blue cheese dressing. Not really sure what the runny flavorless white dressing was supposed to be, maybe really bad ranch? The employee made sure to tell me that she had already packed bread for me, I did not realize that that meant she was going to cram 10+ rolls into one Styrofoam box so that they are completely smashed. I ordered the beef tips which are supposed to come with mushrooms in brown gravy over mashed potatoes. I did not realize it was going to be a DIY project! I have a container of mashed potatoes, a container of super thick slices of mushrooms in some kind of watery brown liquid, a container of completely unseasoned tough beef chunks, a small container of brown gravy that tastes like it came out of the powdered packet from the grocery store, and some sour cream and butter. I have enjoyed a meal at this location many times. This trip was very enjoyable. Grilled shrimp appetizer. New York strip steak, Caesar salad, and a sweet potato made for a very scrumptious meal - even without considering the Peanuts and hot fresh bread. We liked this place a lot when we first came to Abilene. We went with the kids once a week and we called it the "safe choice" because it was always reliable. Sadly, that crown has fallen off as the last few times we have been have been terrible. One time: burnt bread. BURNT. Undercooked steaks, slow service. Next time: raw bread cut into weird flattened triangles. Totally done leathery steaks, incredibly slow service. And this last time a couple weeks ago we met out of town colleagues and once again the young man who greets folks at the front brought THREE baskets of nearly black bread. I mean, how does he keep doing this he has to look at the bread when he picks it up and sets it down, right? Then the server walks to the table and sees it and says nothing. No one was touching the bread in a place known for their bread. I had to ask for new bread. Then? My steak was supposed to be medium. It was black and shriveled and so tough I couldn't cut it. Had to send it back so everyone was done eating before my food got back to me. I'm glad we are heading out of Abilene soon because the food scene is severely lacking and now an old stand by, safe bet isn't even safe anymore. So sad. read more

Aug 31, 2012 My Entourage and I headed off to Texas Roadhouse on 1381 Danville Drive, in Abilene, like most restaurants in town, well the good "family" ones the line was out the door. We did not use the call-in or on-line reservation system offered by Roadhouse and the wait was about 30 minutes. Not a real problem due to the fact we were also waiting on a friend who has a history of showing up late.I quickly filled a bag of peanuts and settled in for the wait. Once seated the Staff responded quickly to take drink orders, Water, beer and soda's for my Entourage. A margarita frozen for myself. I found the margarita to be a bit tart, but everyone I've ever had at the Roadhouse have been so it was not a real surprise. The manager did a table touch which I really like shows that they care about customer service, this was soon followed with the Waiter taking our dinner orders. Steak Medallions, Shrimp, and an Oven Roasted Chicken if I'm not mistaken. The dinners came with salads. Wonderful presentation of the food! Everyone enjoyed the meal without any complaints of service or selection. I enjoyed the standard floor show dance by the staff and ordered a Tequila Sunrise to top off the meals. I would advise people to use the Call in Reservation system to cut down seating times other than that it was a very good experience. read more

Has no-one ever mentioned to the staff the incredible choke point they create at the hostess stand by waiting for a seater who then waits for bread and whether or not someone would like to choose a steak? Additionally there are people gathered about awaiting a table...there has to be a better design option here. Once we made it through that cluster, we were taken to a table that was dirty; soda had been spilled on the table and one seat of the booth and had not been cleaned. The seater did not notice (he was to frazzled about the fact there was no bread to grab and give us), so we had to tell him; to his credit here he did rush off to get something to clean this with. Before he returned, he was waylaid by bread, our server arrived--we told them and they found a towel from somewhere quickly and cleaned the issue. I will say this, our server (Tink) was very good, and was truly the one bright side in an otherwise unimpressive experience. The food was alright; this is a steak house and quite frankly I expect a better steak-both steaks were slightly overcooked and not very well seasoned. The food did arrive fairly quickly though, so that's something; since in all truth I did not want to sit in there for very long as it just feels dirty, like in the air. When all is said and done my husband and I will not be going back nor would we recommend anyone else go there either. read more

AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!!! I was sat for 20 minutes and never even got a roll. We put in our order for food and drink and did not get even a water for over 20 minutes after that! We went on Tuesday night they said it would be a 25 minute wait. At 55 minutes I ask them how much longer. Answer was when I told them what our name was we already texted you and called out your name. Both were lies. So they said Maybe another 2 minutes. We ended up in the bar. I ate my salad and part of my cold potato and 2 bites of my cold steak. I never get good service and good food in the same night. If you are looking for a cheap place to have some quality USDA Choice steak, Texas Roadhouse is the place to be. To get the most out of your money, I'd recommend picking out your cut of meat when you walk in. That way you'll see both the quality and marbling of what you'll be eating. Just a simple dinner for 3. Ribs, steak Medallions and 8oz New York (which was 4oz of fat and undercooked). Fried pickles were great and the chili as a side was fantastic. Our waiter couldn't have been more attentive. The atmosphere was unmentionable except the tables being a little close together. Order the road kill med-well when it came out I took one bite and it was rare. I asked for one cooked correctly and told them I would eat my potatoe and beans while I waited. They brought my meal and basically they just microwaved it and slapped some more cheese on it and brought it back to me. I was like WHY WOULD I WANT A MICROWAVED MEAL! Mom and I have been eating at Texas Roadhouse since it opened. Last night was our last night. This is happening way to often there. After waiting over 30 minutes for our order her medium well steak was so over cooked she couldn't eat it. They did offer to cook another one which we declined since we had already waited so long. They did not offer any kind of discount on our meal. They also had people coming by each table soliciting for the Special Olympics which I did not feel was appropriate as it puts people on the spot feeling like yes they have to make a contribution. read more

Terrible most of the time. Today's experience at the Waterbury, CT location will be my last forever. Extremely long wait to even get drinks yet there were few people there. No rolls for a very long time and when they finally got to us. They were under baked and semi liquid inside. We had a party of 5, all food was cold. Burger was WAY TOO SALTY. Ribs were dry and cold. Fries were cold and soft like paste. Too much salt on the fries too. The entire dinner was a disaster. Not one thing was done correctly. Spoke with both managers and both gave me no answers and talked in circles. I will be calling corporate tomorrow to give them this entire report. Don't waste your money here. Tonight's meal fell short of their usual great product, but exceptional service by Amber saved it. My sweet potato (with toasted marshmallows ) was baked to a crisp, inedible thin mess. In less than five minutes, Amber returned with a new fluffy sweet potato. My medium steak was more a medium well, but the flavor was so good, I didn't request a change. When travelling solo for business, I'm a bar diner. It's what I do.Unobstructed views of several TV's, easy access to a refill on my beverage of choice, possible conversations with strangers and I don't take up a table for 4. My expense approver appreciates my dinner around $25 so the 8oz sirloin works nicely. I actually think it is a darn great steak for the money. I know! I know. This is a chain joint. Based in I think Louisville, KY. They actually present a consistently good product in every location I've tried. I admit those "I love my job!" Shirts everyone wears is surely an affront to the first ammendment, but I've never had a bad meal or abysmal service at any TRH location. My meal met my expectations as did the service. The bar manager was about 17 years old but was earnest and devoted to providing great service. I was a little lazy tonight and wanted a predictable meal. I got it! I personally think this restaurant is a lousy location, but like all TRH locations, it is always busy. See you at the bar! read more

It's been a few years since I've had a meal at a Texas Roadhouse. The locations when I'm at home are far and few between, and there aren't many trips that take me in their area. Last night a few of us got ready and tried to make it before 6 when the happy hour ends. Thankfully we got there with 20 minutes to spare. I tried the $2 margarita. It was really sour but still drinkable. I remember the rolls and butter here are delicious and the bartender told us she'd bring some over. They were hot and fresh, the butter had a perfect sweetness. For dinner I ordered the catfish, with a salad and sweet potato on the side. They had my favorite oil and vinegar for dressing and it was brought out in two separate plastic cups. I think I filled up on the salad and bread because when the food came out I could barely get through half a piece of catfish. Not to mention there were four large strips of it on the plate! The sweet potato was delicious, I added marshmellows and brown sugar (almost a dessert!) When we were getting ready to leave I asked for a box to take home my leftovers. We were standing near the bar waiting for our other friends to finish their beers. When we turned around a few minutes later my box was gone. I asked the bartender and she said she thought we had left and forgot the box so she threw it away. We had been standing in the same spot where we ate dinner the whole time! I can't get too upset about that, it just seemed a little odd since we never moved. read more

Sometimes you just really need a TRH fix. You know the kind; friendly, prompt service, consistent quality, good value for the money, and a Shiner or two. This is just "out to eat home" to us. We've been fans from the start, always enjoy whatever's ordered and in the... jeez, 18-20-ish (!!!!???) years they've been in Abi I believe I remember one steak that didn't cut it. That's pretty amazing. So this visit: Cleanliness, friendliness of greeting, overall "feel" upon entering for a late lunch /early dinner at around 4 was great, as always. The earlier time ensures a slightly less noisy visit, which is nice once in a while. Husband had a 12 oz ribeye, medium-well (sacrilege) that he said was great. Looked juicy despite being perfectly cooked per his ridiculous specifications. His fries were good, but I'm not a huge fan of the seasoned salt, it's a little to salty for me and I salt EVERYTHING. I mean, I'm the type that salts apples or watermelon. My green beans were grandmother-approved and the 11oz sirloin (eyes-bigger-than-my-stomach alert) was delicious, perfectly rare but warm in the center. I don't know how they coax so much flavor and tenderness out of that cut. We both had salads, his with ranch, mine with bleu cheese and I need a new paragraph for some salad talk. Why are they so good??? Is it the chilled bowls? The egg? What is this magic? Because let's face it, it's an iceberg blend, heavy on the iceberg. It has no right to consistently be a star on the table, but there you have it. The rolls are, of course, amazing. Light and fluffy and worth snitching a half of one even if you are, ahem, low-carbing. (Who am I kidding - the fried pickles were worth every carb, as were the fries I snitched.) Kudos. I wavered between 4 & 5 stars, because we're not talking fine dining here... and realized that's exactly why they get the 5th. read more

There were 8 of us and our waiter was great. He was attentive and patient. The food was also good. We had beef tips, salmon salad, chicken strips, and smothered chicken. The rolls were great too. My only issue was the women's bathroom. So only 3 stars instead of 4. I took my 3 year old niece to potty and Toilets were not clean and even the walls looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I used toilet paper as seat covers for her. The bathrooms shouldn't be like that. read more

We stopped at Texas Roadhouse in Abilene for dinner on our way through town. We were seated promptly in a booth near the door. The air vent was blowing directly on our table, so it was quite chilly! The waiter brought the yummy rolls and cinnamon butter to our table right away and was very attentive with drinks and taking our order quickly. All four of us ordered the 8 oz sirloin with salads and potatoes (some mashed, baked, and sweet--all loaded). The salads (caesar and garden) were good, though not spectacular. The steaks were cooked perfectly to order and were very tender for sirloins--delicious! The potatoes were tasty, as well, though they were out of brown sugar for the sweet potato; it really didn't need it with the cinnamon butter. This dinner was great for the price of $9.99 plus $1 for the loading of the potatoes. We were in and out in great time, back on the road for more adventures. The only complaint, and it really isn't a complaint, more of an annoyance, was that the wait staff seemed to be gathered around certain areas, talking, but blocking the aisle for anyone needing to pass. It happened twice to me this visit--I just went a more circuitous route. The staff was pleasant and efficient. I did not notice our waiter in the group of staff visiting...he had tables to serve. The rest of the restaurant seemed empty, so the others had time to chat. It was picking up by the time we left and everyone was busy. We will definitely head here for dinner the next time we are in Abilene. read more

I hit this place up each time I visit Texas.... It's got that chain-restaurant feeling but its a hoot of a spot, and the bread is soooooooo good. The food is always prepared well, the servers are top notch. Texas Roadhouse hires young and attractive employees who put out the effort and are pleasant to look at too. The only obnoxious thing is how loud the place can get, especially with the birthday singing....good God the birthday songs seemed to keep coming and last forever. I have eaten at many Texas Roadhouse locations over the past years in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. I love Texas Roadhouse and found them to be a go-to restaurant for consistently good food and service. But I recently moved to a small rural town which is about 1.5 hour's drive to Abilene which is now the nearest Texas Roadhouse location. We made the trip last evening and arrived at about 5:30 pm after getting on the waiting list. It wasn't crowded so we were promptly seated. The problem started once seated as it was very chilly at our table. I told our waitperson, Michelle, and she spoke to the manager. She reported that he stated there weren't any other available tables although there were five empty tables within view. I spoke with him and he told me the same. When Michelle came back by she asked if everything was ok and we repeated that it was very cold. We had just received our food. She said if we were uncomfortable she could box up our food to go. What??? We had driven 1.5 hours and had just gotten our food and her solution to our feeling cold was to box up our food and send us on our way. We asked again if we could move to another table and were told no. There were still at least 5 open tables. We quickly ate our food. My meal was an overcooked filet mignon, which was ordered medium rare. The entire experience was bewildering due to our feeling uncomfortably cold, being served overcooked food, and having terrible service. read more

Heck yeah! Free meal on Veteran's Day! I got a 6oz sirloin steak and it was cooked perfectly to order. The steak fries were warm but just a tad underdone. And I always love TR's green beans w/ bacon!
