Went in at 1130 on a Saturday. They were pretty busy already. We were seated right away, but they have a pretty big waiting area with seating. It looks like they must have expanded it, because I don't remember it being that big before. We were greeted by Agusta right away, and had drinks shortly after that. My god daughter had a Hurrican margarita and it tasted pretty darned good, better than my water. I ordered the 8oz sirloin, salad with honey mustard and green beans. The steak was cooked to my requested medium rare, green beans had good flavor, the salad has lots of good toppings on top. I didnt try the rolls, but they looked good. we split a pickle chips, not the best I've had but still good. Not sure what the point of call ahead seating is when you arrive at the appointed time and you still wait 45 minutes. Not Knowing that, service was good, appreciate all the Awesome rolls with the cinnamon honey butter. The staff is always kind always courteous and willing to go the extra step. I will always love Texas Roadhouse. This location seems to run out of medium rare prime rib pretty quickly, so if you are going for prime rib I would advise getting there fairly early. But if you make it in time you can't beat TRH's delicious prime rib. All of the sides are top notch as well. If I am feeling really hungry I go with the loaded baked potato and the green beans that are swimming in delicious bacon juice. Service is always good and our server even let one of the guys in our group get a yeehaw on the saddle without it being his birthday. This was the 2nd time I had been here and I was not impressed. The server was not attentive at all and the food was uninspiring. My positive is I can say the food appears to be reasonably priced. The steak was cooked medium but I ordered it medium rare. They were way too crowded to send back so they could remake it. It took forever to get the food (45+ minutes and no apology) everyone who came after us was served well before us. Unacceptable, really. It is dirty in the restaurant. Tables go in bussed and the floors are filthy. The tables are very close to each other so it feels like you are dining with the neighboring tables. Not sure I will be rushing back anytime soon. I was then asked if I wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse.....well I had never even heard of it before....being from Southern Caifornia......so I said SURE and we arrived there about 9:50 p.m. The parking lot is HUGE and there were many cars there. No wait once inside for a table since it was so late...so that was good...cuz normally I heard it can up to an hour and a half wait for a table The waitress was very nice and she asked if we had ever been here before....everyone said yes. She found out I had never been here before and informed me that I could choose ANY appetizer (but the combo appetizer) for FREE....AWWWWWW~~~That's cool. We picked the Cactus Blossom~~~~ A Texas-sized onion, hand-battered, golden-fried, and served with their special Cajun Horseradish Sauce I choose a USDA Choice Sirloin steak for my entree~~~ and you can have either a 6, 8, 11, or 16 oz. size steak...I had a 8 ounce. Pretty tasty meat. Went to Texas Roadhouse with the girlfriend and her sister's family. We did the call ahead seating, which maybe saved us about 15 minutes or so. There is always a wait at this place so we didn't complain or anything...it's just expected. Plus you can snack on peanuts and make a mess while waiting :) We got seated probably after waiting for about 35 minutes. Our orders were taken in a timely manner, but the waitress wasn't the friendliest. She seemed like she was in a bad mood, so she didn't really smile or say much. It didn't bother me too much, but it was noticeable. The bread that you get with the cinnamon butter is soooooo good. I always have to keep myself from eating too many cause then I won't be able to enjoy my meal later on. I ordered the 16 oz NY Strip steak and asked for it to be medium and it was cooked the way I wanted it. I also ordered a Blue Moon to drink and it came out to be a little warm, which didn't make it very enjoyable. There isn't really anything fancy or special about Texas Roadhouse, which is probably why I don't "crave" to eat here. It's just a nice place to eat with a group of people. Normally this would be considered a bad thing, but in this case, I interpret it as testament to how great this restaurant is. It's so good, everybody wants to eat here! This place is a steak lover's dream. Prepare yourself for generous cuts cooked to order, with delicious sides and bread to compliment. The honey butter that comes with the bread is amazing. And it's affordable to boot. There is a really fun atmosphere at the Texas Roadhouse. Every so often the wait staff comes out and line dances to "Cotton-Eyed Joe," and you get to toss your peanut shells on the floor. There are Willie Nelson effects posted on the walls, and the dining room's decor is convincingly southwestern. All in all, this place is a solid eating experience. On a more sober note, the wait staff's friendliness is sometimes hit or miss here. But considering the wait staff rarely gets any down time since this place is so busy, it's understandable why they wouldn't always be super chipper. Also, Texas Roadhouse is a chain restaurant, so if you are looking for a "unique" dining excursion, this isn't it. It's suburbia to the core. So, I am a former Texas Roadhouse employee. I've worked at the Coralville and West Des Moines locations as a server, host, bartender and trainer. This was my first time to the Johnston location, and I gotta say, it was a slam dunk. The food was amazing, as it usually is at any TR. But our server was, simply put, one of the best servers I've had in a long time, anywhere, at any restaurant. Not just TR. His name is Mason and I cannot recommend him enough. He brought bread without having to be asked, he knew steak temps and had great knowledge of the menu, he kept drinks coming without needing to ask, he checked back within a few bites of our food coming and then let us enjoy our meal, he was check-ready so I didn't have to flag him down. In fact I never felt like I was looking for Mason. He was always visible, usually running food for other tables. He's a really hard worker. You can tell he appreciates his tables and even tables that are served by his coworkers. The icing on the cake was my fiancé was going to ask him for Togo bread and he basically finished her sentence for her. He was so on top of legit...everything. While the waitress was awesome, management is extremely poor. We called ahead two hours, and they sat 7 of us at a booth that was way too small. When we complained and asked to be moved, we were told we would be put back on the waiting list "at least a half hour wait," and we couldn't stay at the table, we would have to go back outside. There was not enough room for all of our plates to sit on the table. The entire time we were there, a round table big enough for all of us sat empty. Had to send food back multiple times due to not looking edible or being so gristly it could not be cut. The manager offered no discount with a glib half-apology. Usually Texas road house is very consistent. I think they had an off night when we were there. We had a larger groyp (9)-granted they had just finished up a very large party. Our waitress was attentive. It took much longer than normal for our food to come out. Unfortunately when we did get our food it was cold. My steak had sat so long it was no longer juicy. Last weekend we celebrated a family member's birthday at the Texas Roadhouse. While the service was very good, the general consensus by everyone in our party is that someone needs to hide the salt shaker from the cooks. Nearly everything tasted like tons of salt was used on it. For those that have health conditions where your salt intake is to be limited, be sure to take note of our experience and order your meals accordingly. Unfortunately 2 stars have to be given as a result of the super salty food, as we were there primarily for the food, not the service. I wood rather see salt shakers on the table for the customer to use rather than to have the cook's determine how much salt to use. Was going out with our family of 30 or so for my grandparents' 50th year of marriage. We called ahead the day before to confirm our reservation for 4 pm and everything was in order over the phone. We showed up at 4 pm and the service manager was extremely rude to my grandma and told us it would be a 50 minute wait and that our group would have to be split up. Grandma asked how that could be since we made a reservation the day prior. My grandma is the sweetest woman in the world, she rarely curses. We planned a family dinner and movie night Friday night. The proximity of this location to the AMC across the street made this the perfect setup. I called to make a reservation and discovered the wait queue. I called around 5:40 and was told the wait at that time was 55 minutes to 1:05 minutes. We arrived at about an hour later and were sat within 10 minutes. Use the queue! There were people lined up outside waiting and people everywhere inside... lots of hustle and bustle. We were sat with the standard rolls and cinnamon butter. Gahhhhh! So good! Those rolls are like little edible pillows. We went through 3 baskets of them. I really thought at some point they would cut us off but, they kept them coming :) I enjoyed the vibe. Lots of families, lots of drinks, loud country music, and a super friendly wait staff. Our waitress, Kim, was super sweet and very attentive. We ordered the raspberry and strawberry lemonades. I tried both and liked the raspberry better. For dinner we ordered the chicken fried steak with a salad and mashed potatoes, 8oz NY Strip with a loaded sweet potato and green beans, a 10oz ribeye with steak fries and mashed potatoes. The food was great! The sweet potato was second to none. We ended up taking a lot of it home.. guess we really did fill up on bread :) What surprised me the most was the bill.
