We had a wonderful server ( Bayleigh) but our porterhouse was medium on one side and rare on the other .

The first time we stopped here, they told us it would be over an hour wait so we decided to try it again some other time. They told us about their call ahead seating or waitlist on their app so we tried that the second time around and that worked out much better. The app tells you how long the approximate wait will be so you can put your name on the waitlist and they tell you what time to show up by. That worked out great and we were seated not long after we showed up. My husband and I usually avoid chain restaurants as we feel like the food quality and flavors are usually lacking compared to locally-owned restaurants, but I had a gift card I won from work and wanted to use it up. We really liked that they gave us a basket of hot rolls and cinnamon honey butter to go with it. They tasted really great. I ordered the 12 oz. New York Strip steak and my husband got a slab of ribs. The entrees came with two sides. I got mashed potatoes and a house salad and my husband got apple sauce and mashed potatoes with gravy. The food was decent but there was nothing special about it. I will say, they did a great job of cooking my well done steak without it being hard or dried out but feel like I've had better steak at other places. My husband said his ribs were pretty good but they weren't as fall-off-the-bone tender as some he's had at other places we've been to. Plus, the sauce was kind of bland and not spicy. I was going to give this review three stars but we were both really impressed with the service so I added a 1/2 star. Our waitress came over several times to make sure everything was good and there wasn't anything we needed. Every employee we came in contact with was very friendly and really seemed like they wanted us to enjoy our meal. As we were leaving we passed by three different servers in different areas of the restaurant and they all thanked us for stopping in and wished us a good night. That is something you don't see in most chain restaurants. It was kind of loud in the restaurant but it's a pretty big place with a lot of people in it, so that's not unexpected. The prices are very reasonable for what you get but there wasn't anything noteworthy about the food to tempt me to come back. If you're looking for steak or ribs at a decent price and aren't super picky, you might enjoy this place. For me, I think I would rather stick by my local favorites.

Monday Night Texas Roadhouse Birthday Dinner with family. It was pretty great! First timer here and didn't know what to expect. It was a packed restaurant for a Monday night 7:00pm. Ordered a couple 6 oz sirloins, Fort Worth Ribeye and a bone in ribeye. Asked for dairy free options and our server was very accommodating. Asked for bread to be without butter and they were happy to serve. Everything was delicious and cooked as expected. We asked our server how the chefs cook their steaks and she knew how to accommodate to our steak redness. Our server was very knowledgeable and excellent. The only part that could have used some work was the check out. It took 40 min to get checked out due to having to wait on our server to get back to us. Total for four adults was $107.xx before gratuity. They honor veterans discount! Other than that it was good.

Beware of foreign objects in your food. Ordered to go American cheese burger had a hard plastic object in it. Poked hole in my mouth. Burger was also well done when medium rare was ordered.

This restaurant cannot get a baked potato without burning it . The old potatoes we got with our meal should have to be eaten by the cook that served it. All the cooks have to do is not serve any item they would not eat themself or be proud serving to your grandmother.

Update review. Food this visit was cooked exactly as we had ordered. Server Cynthia was spot on and attentive.

Sad baked potato served to my wife.

The Texas Roadhouse in Johnston has gone way downhill.Servers that don't want to be there, slow service at 2:30 in the afternoon, and food only the flies like and there were plenty of flies . The baked potato my wife was served was not fit to eat . We spoke to the manager and he agreed the flies were bad and the potato was not for human consumption. He did remove 1/2our bill but the flies were worse than a picnic. Wow lots needs to be done to get better.

We'll we were welcomed into Texas Roadhouse sat with no rolls unlike normal even though we saw some ready. The server tried her best but our drinks were left empty and We finally got our food and I had a metal shaving that cut my mouth in my potatoes but we still got charged full price. Pretty disappointed and will be going to the Altoona location instead from here on out. The manager never spoke to us about the item in my food or even apologized about what happened.

We come out here often if we can make it early. The steaks are wonderful which is why it can be a challenge to get in. If you get there past five pm plan on waiting. We try to get there as close to 4 as possible, the rolls are fresh & hot. The staff are attentive & always have a smile. The Johnston location has fried mushrooms! As usual a great meal!

What do they serve and how much?

They serve steaks, sandwiches with choice of sides...but prior to your meal the most delicious hot rolls are delivered to your table accompanied by warm, honey butter. My husband and I dined there in the evening and the price was around $35. and…

Do they serve prime rib on Sunday?

Hey Judi! Yes, we typically serve prime rib on the weekends. However, it is limited quantity so it is while we have it. Once all of it has been ordered we are out for the day.

Y'all. We need to have a serious conversation about this salad…read more I ordered the ahi tuna salad expecting something that might actually qualify as a tasty meal. What arrived was essentially lettuce wearing a little tuna hat. Lettuce, shredded carrots, quartered tomatoes, tuna and dressing. That's the entire cast. No interesting textures, no creative ingredients, no little something that makes you think, "Oh, THAT'S why I ordered this." Nothing. This salad had side salad energy so aggressively that I half expected someone to bring me an entree afterward. In fact, I'm giving Urban Grill the gold medal for one of the least interesting restaurant salads I can remember eating. And that's saying something, because I have eaten a lot of salads. At least give me some nuts. Some cheese. Fruit. Avocado. Something crunchy. Something unexpected. Hell, throw a few croutons on there and let's pretend we're having fun. The restaurant itself is actually pretty nice, although it's apparently designed for groups of four or fewer. We had five people and had to wait for a table because there are only two tables in the entire restaurant that can accommodate more than four people. In a restaurant that size, that seems odd. The saving grace was our waiter, who was excellent. I didn't get his name, but he was attentive, charming and genuinely pleasant, and he deserves credit for making the experience better than the food did. The people I was dining with didn't have anything particularly bad to say about their meals, but nobody seemed to be having a religious experience either. Mostly sandwiches and salads, and nothing that made me think that I need to come back here and try that. And that's the problem with Urban Grill: nothing is really wrong with it. Nothing is particularly right with it, either. It's pleasant. It's serviceable. It exists. But in a city with plenty of restaurants competing for your attention, "perfectly adequate" isn't exactly a compelling reason to return. So, Urban Grill, I'm afraid I'm going to have to channel Randy Jackson from American Idol: It's gonna be a no from me, dog.

While a bit of a hidden gem off of 86th Street, the building is modern, chic and inviting - with a large covered patio area connected to the north side of the building. The one negative is that the temperature is kept very cold inside, so consider bringing a sweater or light jacket to stay comfortable. Unfortunately, tonight was a bit cold outside, so it was a coinflip on which was better - we opted for the patio seating and the wind settled down during our visit to get quite comfortable. We started with a Cuban Martini and Sojito (see picture) along with an order of Bang Bang Shrimp (see picture) for an appetizer. We enjoyed the drinks and the Bang Bang Shrimp with the drizzled Yum Yum-type sauce was delicious! For our main courses, my wife ordered the Thai Pasta (see picture) and I opted for the Fig, Avocado and Goat Cheese Salad (see picture). As is our custom, we both shared bites from each of our plates and liked both of them very much - although the Thai Pasta definitely had a bit more 'kick'. We ordered the Tres Leches for dessert (remembering it from our last visit), but unfortunately found that they were sold out, so had to leave without dessert. If you are looking for a modern, unique, Asian fusion type restaurant in the Johnston area, Roots 95 won't disappoint. We were treated so wonderfully and our waiter and the general manager went above and beyond to make us happy. Our wonderful waiter Derek welcomed us and was excited to learn that this was our first visit. He was friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely interested in helping us choose something on the menu that we would enjoy. I decided to get a supreme pizza because I like a lot of toppings on my pizza and my husband got the cavatelli because he was in the mood for pasta. The food came out extremely fast. Unfortunately, I didn't like my pizza very much because the center of the crust was very limp and droopy and the toppings fell off because they were kind of heavy. The outer edge of the crust was crispy but the middle of the crust seemed like maybe it needed to be cooked longer. I felt like the pizza should have been better. My husband loved his cavatelli and gave me a bite. I agreed that it was very good. I was wishing that I had ordered that, too. When Derek came and checked on us, I debated on whether I should say something about the pizza. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. He could probably see the disappointment on my face. He said he really wanted to know what we thought about the food so I told him I was disappointed with the pizza. He was very understanding about it and said he didn't like his pizza droopy either. But we told him the cavatelli was excellent. It was a little bit sweet with the right amount of spiciness. A few minutes later, Courtney the general manager came to our table and apologized about the pizza. She was truly sorry about the pizza and even said she talked to the chef about cooking it longer but he said it might burn the pizza if they did that. And it had so many toppings on it that it might not make a difference on the crust. So she wanted me to pick something else on their menu for free. I was going to decline but she insisted, so I chose the cavatelli. They made it for me and brought it out quickly. We appreciated everything Derek and the GM did to make it up to us which really wasn't necessary. They went above and beyond. I felt bad about it but they wanted our first visit there to be great. Then when Derek brought our bill to us, we saw that they comped both the pizza and the extra cavatelli. So they were only charging us for my husband's meal. AND Derek brought us a free dessert. My husband and I were flabbergasted. They did way more for us than they should have. We have never been treated so well at a restaurant before. I didn't think that restaurants and waitstaff like this existed. It seems like since Covid, when you go to restaurants, they're understaffed or the workers don't seem like they want to be there and barely acknowledge you. But here they bend over backwards to make sure you're happy. I love that and appreciate everything they did. The atmosphere is casual yet upscale. It feels cozy and welcoming, too. There is outdoor seating as well. Believe me, we will be back and we'll tell our friends about this place. If you love excellent service and good food, please check this place out..

There's carpet throughout the dining area, which unfortunately makes the whole place feel a little dingy and dated. One of the coolest things about the restaurant is actually outside. It's located near what used to be a farm, and there's a chicken coop along with a nice herb and vegetable garden that you can walk through. It was a fun and unexpected thing to explore while waiting for our food, especially with a kid. The food itself was very hit or miss, and nothing really wowed our group. I ordered the sirloin medium rare, but it came out closer to medium, and I didn't think the quality of the steak was particularly good for the price. The presentation was also a little odd, with the steak served on a very well-used tin-style plate that had definitely seen better days. Other dishes were mixed as well. The onion strings were a hit, and one person really enjoyed the Reuben. The corn was excellent, and most of us liked the coleslaw and rolls. There was also pieces of spice cake or pumpkin bread tucked underneath the rolls, which was an unusual but surprisingly nice addition. On the other hand, the liver was dry, the prime rib was fattier than expected with quite a bit that wasn't really edible, and the mashed potatoes were very dry and bland. They also bring several family-style sides to the table whether you order them or not, including things like cottage cheese. It felt a little strange and somewhat wasteful since we didn't want or touch some of it, and overall it creates a LOT of food on the table. The meal wasn't particularly inexpensive either. Before tip, we spent about $70 for two adults and a child, which felt pretty steep considering the overall quality of the food. I will give them credit for the country store area. These types of restaurant gift shops can sometimes be filled with a lot of random junk, but this one actually had some interesting Iowa and farm-themed items that were fun to browse. Service was perfectly good, but overall this was more of an interesting one-time experience for us than somewhere I'd be eager to return to. We were invited here rather than choosing it ourselves, and I'm glad we tried it, but there are too many better dining options in the Des Moines area for me to be clamoring to come back.
