I went through drive thru around 6:00 pm today, drive thru was empty. I ordered the golden burger and the chicken kabob plate. Was expecting 4 star taste but was left disappointed. Not sure if I came on an off day or time but I wasn't impressed and am now questioning the 4 star reviews. The golden burger had pastrami and one beef patty on Texas toast with a thousand island like dressing, lettuce and tomato. I wasn't a fan of the golden burger. The beef patty and pastrami were totally bland with no seasoning whatsoever. There were no pickles on the burger. Who has a pastrami sandwich/burger with no pickles? I was terribly disappointed after reading the high reviews. The kabob plate included 2 generous sized grilled chicken skewers with rice, mixed green salad with Greek dressing and a side of tzatziki sauce. Honestly, it wasn't too bad but I was a little confused because I understand the restaurant and this particular entree are Greek inspired. I didn't feel the meat was seasoned with any particular special Greek seasoning nor did it remind me of Greek food. It was basically tender grilled chicken cut up in pieces on a skewer. The rice had a nice flavor but I've never had Greek rice with veggies in it. The side salad was almost non existent. The salad container had more air in it than salad. Not sure why they're so stingy with the salad. The tzatziki sauce was on point and was probably the only Greek thing about the meal. Customer service was very good and the meal was nicely packaged. I just wish the taste was better. I might be back if in the area for the kabobs because so far I haven't found a drive thru with better kabobs. I'd only recommend it if you can't find a better alternative in the area. read more

I have driven by and seen this place for years, just never dropped in. Well tonight changed that. I used the drive thru, the attendant was very friendly. I had the gyro, which was one of the best ones I have had, granted I am not from chicago and not greek but I did like it. Lots of meet, sliced onions in the pita. I also had onion rings which were fresh and not very greasy at all. I will be going back to this place and trying other items. read more

Coming from a fellow Greek they have some of the best gyro meat and the tzaziki sauce is a lot like Yia Yia's. The whole menu is worth a try. I have never had a bad experience here. read more

Pretty good food, but they charge extra at the drive through for their house sauce, but it's free if you eat inside, and the drive through acts irritated when you request it. Desserts are not house made. We stopped eating inside because they have Fox News on all the time and will not turn the channel when you ask. Also they support the open carry people - frankly I don't feel safe with a bunch of yahoos carrying guns while I'm eating. All in all we probably won't go back anymore, which is a shame because we prefer to support mom & pop places rather than chains. read more

We came for lunch and had the hardest time picking just one thing to try!! I got the gyro Greek salad and my boyfriend got the western bacon cheeseburger. We both really enjoyed the food and had to get Togo boxes! The place is very clean and the staff very friendly! We will be back!! read more

Tex's Star Grill has got to be one of the best little hole in the wall places around that you can easily miss if you're just driving by. Every time I've gone, the owner and staff have been friendly and created a good down home environment. The New York strip is one of the best for being a "fast food-ish" place, and the food is served hot and fresh. They also keep the place really clean, and have a ton of parking space... the only thing they could use improvement on is the menu. They have too many variable options. Are you sandwich place? steaks? gyros? That's ok though, I'm not going to hold that against them until they start screwing me over ;) read more

So dissatisfied with this joint. When I moved to Texas and discovered they had pizza puffs and true Vienna beef dogs I was excited and we ate here once a week. In the last year I have gotten food poisoning 3 times from this place. I refused to believe that it was from here...but 3rd time was a charm that did it. Turns out another person I recommended to this place got sick. Then another...then 2 more. All of us had either a hot dog, a pizza puff, a gyro, or a beef. We discovered he gets his stuff through a broker who ships via train from the Windy City. One night we saw it out in back and was not taken in until the morning. This was product that needs to be refrigerated!!!! Told the owner (think his name is Tom) and he could care less we all got sick. He was more worried about bragging that he got a second vacation home in Eagle Mountain Lake. Lol. I could overlook and DID overlook how grossly overpriced he is, and I could overlook his rude employees; but food borne illness and lack of sanitation cannot be overlooked. If you're from Chicago and looking for a Italian Beef..Do Not Go Here!!! I ordered 2 beef sandwiches and all I got was bread, so don't waste your time. They do have Pizzas puffs, which were ok. Food not worth the money spent. We just moved to the DFW area from AZ and we we're driving around looking for something quick to grab to eat when we saw Tex's. Wow, what an extensive menu! We went through the drive thru and were overwhelmed by all the options...so many things sounded so good! My husband got the Philly Cheesesteak which to be honest, he didn't like and he won't get again...but he's VERY picky about his philly's. Onion rings = delish. I got the chicken fried steak...yummmmm!!! It was so much I ended up sharing with the hubs and he loved it. Even though my husband didn't like his sandwich, he loved the onion rings and loved my meal so we'll obviously be returning to try more!!! I've come here since they opened and have always enjoyed the service and food. Everything I've tried has been great. The owner usually checks on you personally, and always has a joke or two up his sleeve. Glad to see an independent restaurant making it! I always prefer to support anything locally owned. Really excellent quick service restaurant. What is really surprising is with a menu as varied as it is here that everything is at least very good. Love the backyard flavor on the burgers, decent gyros and an excellent Italian Beef sandwich. Top notch fries too, always fresh and crisp. The owner seems genuinely pleased to see repeat customers and must be a good man to work for because in the 3-4 years I've been eating at Tex's Star Grill I haven't seen a lot of turnover. The only negative at all is the location if you don't actually live in the area. Ruff Snow has pretty horrible traffic that has been made worse by the 820 construction. Davis to Mid-Cities is an option but that means dealing with the construction on 183 to get to Davis. That means I only go to Tex's Star Grill when I am in the area, wish it was closer to north Arlington! read more

The Golden Burger Combo. A quarter lb of burger, a decent pile of pastrami. Basically, I was in heaven. I met the burger I wanted to marry. I would have taken a picture but I believe I will be coming back for it enough that I won't need to be reminded of it's looks. The taste was phenomenal, the texture was wonderful - it made for an all drool worthy experience. Next time though, I will add crispy bacon to add more of a delicious texture profile to it - from the tender, peppered pastrami to the crispy, well done burger patty to the crunch of the bacon. This place is dope! Ive lived in this area damn near my whole life and never popped in to this place. I now regret that lol. I went today because I was tired of my usual lunchbreak go-to's and it was at the top of my Near Me List. The Burgers are awesome. Big and tasty.I grabbed the Western Cheesburger combo. Sweet Tea was almost on Chicken Express level. Fries were awesome. Nice and thick cut. Prices totally reasonable and worth it. Walked out with 2 large combos for under $20 Staff was nice. My daughter had the pastrami on a really nice soft and she likes her pastrami dry so she had the pastrami with Swiss cheese and meat and she did the combination so she asked for her fries to have chili cheese and they really did very well on The accommodation. I had the Italian beef with the hot gardinera veggies The sandwich was moist and I had the au jus on the side. The drive was very well seasoned and you could see the spices and it was really good and tasty. They were very generous with both orders of fries and they have a home sauce I picked the spicy hot sauce and it was very good as well. I wish I could give this place a higher rating because the people are so nice here. The food isn't that great though. My boyfriend always gets a burger and they give you the tiniest piece off patty ever. They say it's a 1/4 pound but I can guarantee that it's not. I also don't think the prices are good either for what they give you. They also charge you extra if you ask for sauce in the drive thru window even though it's free if you eat in which makes no sense whatsoever. Definitely a rip off. I can say that the gyro and their fries are decent though. We always feel sick after eating here so I don't think we will be back. read more
