What a delightful diner! Our family dropped by today after church and we each enjoyed fresh, hot food delivered with smiles and great Texas hospitality. Mike, the owner, greeted us at the door and quickly helped us get seated. Ava, our server, was the sweetest thing and kept our water and tea (by the way, they serve EXCELLENT iced tea!) always topped off. Normally I would have great things to say about this place, the kitchen knocks it out of the park! But this morning I went in for breakfast, there were alot of available tables so I asked the woman that looked like she was running the floor if I could sit anywhere she said yes sit where ever you like. I sat down turned my coffee cup over and waited...........10 mins went by . Servers walked passed me and brought water and coffee to people that sat down after me but never even looked at me . We always pass by this restaurant but it's the first time we actually went in. We were out running Sunday morning errands and got brunch cravings. We were right by the Walmart and decided that was the day we were going to finally try it. There was about a 20 minute wait. The restaurant is busy but pretty big and clean. The service was prompt and friendly. Our coffee cups were consistently filled and food was good. We both ordered simple breakfast and shared a pancake. We left full and happy. I was a weekly customer at this restaurant since it opened. I used to really enjoy this restaurant, their food, and service. However, since the ownership has changed hands, it is just not the same. It is a very unfriendly and low energy place to visit. Management cares very little about service or satisfaction. It is uncomfortable to be in this atmosphere. This place use to be the best place to go, it has gone down hill so quickly. You can get breakfast anywhere, we came for the service. We found out that the ownership has changes and you can tell! The servers we on their phones and sitting down. The service was atrocious, none of the people that use to work here are there any longer. They use to care about taking care of the guests, that is no longer a thing there. We looked for anyone from before, come to find out they have all left, and you can see the difference. Sunday morning at Republic...What could go wrong? Our food was great, as usual, but our waitress spent almost the entire time we were eating visiting and loud talking with her friends in the next booth. Us attempting to enjoy our breakfast at one of her tables was not an inconvenience that was going to interrupt her socializing. Unable to interrupt her visit , we had a long wait for our check and finally went to the front desk to spur things along. However, to be fair, throughout our meal our waitress had checked back with us and our coffees were refilled. Doing "eat the alphabet" with the family and this was our C restaurant. We don't typically venture out this way, but found this place on Yelp, and my fellow Yelpers didn't disappoint with this one! We arrived just before noon on Sunday afternoon so there was about a 20 minute wait. The wait went by quickly and we ended up being seated 10 minutes later. The three of us opted for coffee and water. The coffee was legit! I probably could have drank a whole pot by myself. The food arrived quickly and was fresh. I ordered the Southern Scramble (biscuit, hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, gravy and cheese), kid ordered the Chicken & Waffles, and hubs ordered The Alamo (2 tacos with eggs and brisket with a side of hashbrowns). So. Much. Food. The chicken and waffles came with 3 huge pieces of chicken! I've never seen chicken and waffles with this much chicken before. You typically get 1 small piece of chicken, or a wing. It was impressive. The breading was delicious but the waffle could have been just a tad sweeter. The scrambler contained the best of all breakfast items and hubs loved the tacos. The inside is very Texas and back the blue as I believe the owners are police or retired police. The cafe is family owned and operated which is very cool! Our waitress gave us some backstory and let us know that they plan on opening another restaurant down the road that will serve lunch and dinner. The service was good, I can't complain about that. The food was less than impressive for the price. My Benedict was covered literally swimming in hollandaise sauce. Sad I didn't take a picture. It said it had bacon and it was a dusting of bacon on top of the pooling hollandaise sauce. It was very disappointing. So I ordered a side of bacon and it came out and they gave me 2 slices which was enough but it was nearly $5 for that. Prices are not reasonable for the food quality. The place is clean and they are definitely military and police backing which is nice. It's very in your face though. I mean there is a difference between being proud of something and choking people with it on every bite. Portion size is huge but a bit pricey. I like the taste of my corned beef and hash brown. I think they accidentally gave me a white toast instead of sour dough but it's okay. My order of the Southern Scrambler was not hot , not even very warm. I asked for it to be warmed up , but when the server brought it back the plate was warmer, but not the food . There are two things positive I can say about this restaurant, it was very clean and they have things up on the walls that show they support the police and the military!! My problem was with the food and the prices. The food was not fixed the way I asked. I specifically asked for my egg whites to be cooked through and my yokes runny. When it came it was runny whites and both yokes were broken and all over the plate. That should have never come out of the kitchen like that. He told the waiters that he cannot eat eggs and we needed the one meal to be put on two separate plates, with chicken fried steak and hash browns on one and the eggs and toast on another. The food all came on one plate with an empty plate underneath the top plate, so the yokes were on his chicken fried steak and gravy was on my eggs, which I do not eat gravy. By the way, after he ate, he had a reaction from the eggs. The meal came with only one piece of toast. So, basically I had one piece of toast and yokes. My husband ate his part with the chicken fried steak and some of the hash browns. At first I wasn't going to give a tip, but my husband convinced me that it wasn't the waiters fault, so I gave them $2, ten percent. The bill came to $20.57 for one meal to split and one coffee for him. The prices at this restaurant are absolutely insane. I know our economy is also insane, but we have eaten better food in other places and was able to order two breakfasts for $25 or less. In fact, we did it a week ago and he also got chicken fried steak and it was so big he had enough to take home for another meal. My husband received the wrong sandwich. It had bacon on it which he cannot eat. Did not realize until he took a few bites. They did replace it but instead of taking the price off the bill, they gave us two orders of crepes with whipped cream and strawberries that we did not want. We would have rather have them take the price of the sandwich off the bill. Also, they charged us more money than the prices on the bill. They did not tell us and said it was posted on their door. It was not. They said the manager was having it laminated but that did not help us. This is my first time here. The sign always caught my eye when I drove by. I wanted the Philly but they were out of the bread. I went with one of the recommendations from waitress.
