Went through the drive thru at Tex Star for a delicious burger & gyro. We were really excited for our meals, but sadly we were disappointed with the outcome. They are now charging 50¢ per slice of tomato on top of their regular price due to a shortage & are overcompensating with onion. They used to be pretty generous with their fries - we got just enough to fill the slip. They also filled our cups to the brim with ice & we got very little soda. Considering we paid $4 for the fries and drink (a combo) to be added to the gyro, it's like a slap in the face to the customer to get so little for so much. The only thing consistent about the meal and past experiences was the homemade ranch. I know times are hard and the cost of things have also gone up, but it's these little things that make you consider taking your hard earned money somewhere else. 3 stars because we generally are happy with the food we get. I traded the fries for onion rings. My diet coke was HUUUuuuuGE....and was even better than McDonald's fountain drinks! Truth! The burger was really good and held fresh veggies. We have been coming to Tex's Star Grill for years, this is definitely a favorite restaurant in the area. My personal favorite food here is the chicken fried chicken. Not only is the taste delicious, but the portions are amazing for the money. You will get a chicken fried chicken that is over half of a plate. I love getting the fries as my side to use the spicy house sauce. You also get toast and a side salad. Those working are very nice and they keep the restaurant very clean. Pastrami, Swiss cheese, rye bread and Russian (I would call it 1000 Island) dressing. Big steak house style fries, and big Coke. All delicious. Had a baklava too. Good. Customer service was excellent until an older woman came to the window. Maybe it was just one of those days, but she came off as unfriendly. I've never had a bad experience here and use to bake bread for the company. However, this does affect my overall review. The spicy fried pickles were horrible! The burger was decent. The onion rings were the best part of my meal. The establishment is still clean and looks the same from yrs ago. You can tell the owner takes pride in his business. One of our favorite go to places for burgers. My sponsor is attracted because of the Spicy Home sauce. I like the burgers but my favorite is the Ruben combo. Today my sponsor maintained her #2 Combo 1/3 Chzburger. I was trying to decide between a hamburger and a Ruben. The owner had a special listed as #13 Goldenburger. George is a Greek man from Chicago that has lived in Texas a couple decades...and the food reflects it all. The Gyro is some of the best meat we have had. That's right, great gyros from a place with "Tex" in the name. We took the owners suggestion and got the Golden Burger that is piled with fresh pastrami. Amazing blend of flavors. First time trying out Tex's Star Grill. I heard they had great gyros (I used to work at a Greek restaurant so I often get a hankering for gyros) and so we came in one afternoon after church to try it with the family. I guess because we're new to the area, we don't really understand the Texas habit of ordering at a counter and then waiting for food in the dining area. I thought this place would be an actual diner because it looks like one from outside but its not. Inside the decor is old and dated. Nothing wrong with a cowboy theme, it just looked kinda dusty and like it hadn't been updated since 1980. You could film a movie that takes place in the past here easily - take note, Hollywood! My husband had a burger here and he was pleased with it. It was juicy and flavorful and cooked to his liking. The onion rings are pretty yummy and the portion was generous. The gyro, which is what they advertise outside, was fresh and I appreciate that they grill the pita a bit. It had a good flavor and the homemade "cucumber sauce" was a good mix of feta, dill and cucumber which is a bit different from other tzatziki sauces. Sadly, the gyro wasn't as delicious as Moe's Gyros but it was still pretty good and I enjoyed it. The staff was also friendly and kept the booths and tables maintained and the self serve drink area clean. It seemed family friendly with lots of folks with small kids which is always nice because I have some of my own. Unfortunately, everything else we ordered was a dud. The brownie, the BLT, the french fries and most tragically, the baklava weren't up to standards. Having worked previously in a Greek restaurant, we always kept our baklava in a large tray in the refrigerator in a pool of honey! This baklava was cold, too firm and dry as a whistle. It was very disappointing. So, will we return to Tex's Star Grill? Probably not but it wasn't a terrible experience. For the price and the quality of the food, there are other places to go that have better menu options and ambiance. But if you don't mind a kid friendly trip back in time for a good burger or gyro, this place will do. read more

Coworker and I went for lunch today. We each ordered a salad and we got one pizza puff to split just to try it. Salads were great, I got the greek with chicken breast and she got the chef. I loved mine, nice fresh vegg and you can't see it in the photo but lots of feta and olives, and comes with a pita and tzatziki. I didn't even need the greek dressing they included. The pizza puff was good, loved the filling, the dough part seemed undercooked to me? But I'm not from Chicago so what do I know. Living in Far North Fort Worth we have a lot of options for food. We stumbled on this hidden gem last night. We drove up to Tex's about 8pm and it had quite a few cars in the parking lot. Always a good sign; along with some great reviews from my fellow Yelpers. Before we even walked I saw a sign on their front door encouraging those with Licenses to Carry concealed guns that they are welcomed inside. I will always support those that encourage our 2nd Amendment Rights. Once we were inside we saw pictures of all their different menu items on the wall. What a great concept for someone that is a new customer. Even the owner was at the front counter walking us through the ordering process. What a nice guy and spent extra time helping us understand the different dishes. We decided on a pizza popper for an appetizer. Then I ordered the Italian Beef (added Italian Sausage for $2) sandwich with onion rings. My bride chose the Reuben with fries. That pizza popper was hot and loved that it was so flaky. Great taste and first time having this. Then my Italian Beef showed up. My first bite was full of beef and that Italian Sausage - and was so packed full of flavor. I snuck a few bites of her Reuben and loved how there was so many slices of Corned Beef and amazing sauerkraut. What a greaat experience. Absolutely love this little restaurant, it is one of these places where you can tell it's a Mom and Pops place which means it's going to be good and authentic. Now they have some many options you want hot dogs they got it sausages check that burgers check you craving some Greek? They got that too! So many options and everything I have tried has been delicious! I am partial to hamburgers though (I'm fairly picky) but man those burgers are so dang good, or their grilled chicken sandwich Yummy. If you don't know it's hard getting a grilled chicken breast sandwich that's not slightly dried out but I have always found theirs moist and juicy with great flavors. My husband well he likes more the Patty Melt or the Maxwell Polish (sausage with grilled onions on a hoagie) those grilled onions oh they smell good. The staff has always been super polite and has always answered any question we have had a they come make sure your experience is good and the everything is alright. Okay, seriously!!! This place is the bomb dot com. I can't believe it's been write under my nose all these years. Staff are on top of it - super efficient, friendly and ready to assist a newcomer. Food is made from scratch and fresh. I had the Gyro dinner with salad and mashed potatoes and those mashed potatoes and gravy were so good. The gyro is huge and could not be finished but let me tell you the best part. The Rueben my husband ordered was huge and so good. Warm and the dressing was amazing. Came for the Pizza Puff, stayed for the Gyros and Chicken Tenders! My boyfriend is a Chicago transplant and has talked up these Pizza Puffs for a while now.
