Two years ago we used TGIS to cater the annual fundraiser for the nonprofit, Wells Bring Hope. They did an incredible job in every way--executing a "Fabulous Fifties" theme. Since we were unable, due to Covid, have an event in 2020, we were very excited about 2021 and of course, we hired TGIS again for a wonderful theme: "Sunday in a Japanese Garden." The menu they offered was perfect in, not only carrying out our theme ( we wanted no sushi) but in providing very interesting, unusual and very tasty food. This event was held at my home, and the worst thing possible happened: both my ovens stopped working! And my microwave went out the week before. TGIS didn't miss a beat. They carried all the trays across the street to my neighbor's house and we didn't miss a beat. My neighbors said the staff was so lovely. And they were. We had a sake tasting bar and the bartender became instantly knowledgeable about the six choices we offered and made the whole experience fun for our guests. It was a warm atmosphere and the TGIS staff added to that. It couldn't have been better. We look forward to working with them again. Do to the current COVID restrictions we had a very, scaled down event. I contacted several caterers. I was impressed with the options offered by TGIS. The guest of honor also had many dietary restrictions. I chose the social to go option. It was exactly what I had in mind for this event! Jeremy was very helpful with my many requests. We used TGIS on 10-18-14 for our wedding reception. The food was excellent! We had appetizers, salad, bread and dinner with 2 sides served plated by wait staff. Adrienne was our contact person and was super helpful and diligent in getting everything we wanted and getting it all set up. Price was good. They were on time. Servers were REALLY nice! They helped us set up tables with the decorations I brought in too. Made sure the cake was there and we had cider for non alcohol drinkers. We also had food options for vegetarians and kids. I've dealt mostly wth George, who is very passionate about his business - the food & service are impeccable but he pays attention to the fine details as well, from planning/coordination to decor & lighting. They have the capacity, with their 10K sf kitchen to do large-scale events, but I've also been impressed with their more intimate events for 20 people. I've used them here in Hollywood. We used TGIS for our wedding reception and they were AWESOME!!! We had it at the Centre at Sycamore Plaza and everything was just the way we wanted it. George and Sofia make a great team and their executive director, Cindy, went above and beyond for us. Food: We had a station menu that George helped us design. It included foods that we love as a couple that we hoped our guests would enjoy... and they thought it was delicious! We enjoyed everything that was served and the stations they set up worked very well to feed everyone quickly. Our guests are still talking about how good it was! Venue: The Centre is a great venue, it was large enough to seat our over 200 guests comfortably yet at the same time there was still room for us to set up a lounge area and a photo booth. On Sunday, I had a few selected women friends over to my garden for a Christmas brunch. Normally I would prepare the food to be served but in doing so I miss the opportunity to enjoy the guest because I'm always working in the kitchen. Problem solved! I called Mark Rivera @ TGIS Catering (Thank Goodness It's Sofia). Together we placed the perfect order of Hors D Oeuvres and other food, which included crab cakes topped with an Ancho Chile Aioli and finished with a Mango Salsa, coconut shrimp served with sweet and spicy dipping sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection! I added a toss green salad with slivered almonds, dried cranberries and Italian dressing, vegetable tray and a fruit and cheese display. I'm hungry just thinking about it. This was better than finger licking good and Mark Rivera was most helpful and accommodating. On the day of the event, the food was to be delivered by 12:45 p.m. for a 1:00 serving and I unfortunately had to increase to number of servings. MOST IMPORTANTLY, there was a BLACKOUT in our wedding. The finely set up tables, bar, and serving stations were sent across to the only room which had power and set up beautifully, centerpieces and all, in very little time! Without them going the EXTRA EXTRA MILE at no cost, our wedding would have been ruined. Thanks to them, the blackout turned out to be just an adventure which brought people closer together. We had 2 hordourves being passed around by waiters and they were pretty tasty. We also has the New York steak. Everyone enjoyed the food and it was all delicious. Susie Chun was excellent. She helped us make sure everything went though smoothly and was there before the event helping with everything. She was amazing and made us feel at ease. Pricing also felt pretty decent since it felt like an elegant dinner with the appetizers being passed around and the way each course came after the other. She came up with the perfect menu and worked with me to stay within my budget for my daughter's Bat Mitzvah. The appetizers, food and desserts were all amazing. We had our wedding reception at the Betty Reckas Cultural Center and could not have picked a better location and catering company. TGIS is the sole caterer for this venue, but you will not be disappointed. We worked with Jeremy Smith and he is a great guy. He helped to answer all of our questions leading up to the reception and worked to accommodate our needs. We went to two different tastings during our engagement and had a hard time choosing what to pick for the meal because everything was so delicious. We ended up going with the tossed ceasar salad, grilled chicken balsamico, garlic mashed potatoes, and saute of julienned vegetables. Everyone at the reception loved the food and could not stop talking about how delicious the food was (especially when made in mass). We had approximately 230+ guests. Even the kid's meal was a hit! Those who had the vegetarian meal also said it was delicious and had nothing but positive things to say about their dinner. The staff that worked the event was also great. We had a gentlemen (who I cannot recall his name), but he found me during the night to let me know when our dinner was ready (hard for the bride and groom to find time to eat). He also brought some of the appetizers to the bridal suite and to our sweetheart table to make sure we had something to eat before the main meal came out. He was so nice! The staff served the food so quickly that no one was left hungry. The wedding package also includes the wedding cake (either from Rossmoor Bakery or Torrance Bakery). We chose to go with Torrance Bakery and LOVED our cake. The design was perfect and the taste was phenomenal. We had three flavors: marble cake with chocolate mousee/fudge filling, banana cake with vanilla custard filling, and white cake with lemon mousse/rasberry jam filling. The cake was a big hit and the staff also served pieces to guests very quickly after we cut the cake later in the evening. I highly recommend TGIS Caterging for your wedding, as well as the Betty Reckas Cultural Center. The inside of the hall is beautiful and you can also choose the BYOB option where you pay a set fee per guest and you can purchase all of your own alcohol. This saved us a lot of money as we were able to have "open bar" for the entire night!! We paid the per person fee and the $150 per bartender (we had two bartenders, who were also awesome). The only recommendation I would make is to have at least one male security guard at the reception site. It's almost been a year since my wife and I got married with TGIS as our caterer, and I wanted to update my review after being at more weddings and being able to put TGIS in better perspective. CUSTOMER SERVICE = A TGIS handled our wedding at MOLAA. First off, considering food is likely your biggest expense for an event, TGIS was incredibly accommodating and they were so easy to work with - from day-one we were put at ease. Our catering manager was able to work with our desire to have elements of japanese and cuban flavors. Our manager was also able to give us a competitive quote on lighting and set-up when the original lighting contractor didn't contact us back. We had a full/open bar with BYOB option, and it was great. TGIS brought all the mixers and bar glass- and hardware, and the bartenders were great. I would say it's sometimes hard to get in touch with TGIS over the phone because they're so busy, but they are great on email. FOOD = A+ Now the most important part. TGIS's food is amazing! They have tons of flavors and cuisines. From Greek, to Italian, to Latin and Asian flavors they are experienced in working with it all. At our wedding, we did plated dishes - the food came out hot, fresh, and we continue to get comments on it today. For our main dish we had a duet plate of filet mignon and chilean seabass with a potato tower. Over the last 9 months, after attending numerous weddings, my wife and I still get compliments on our food, AND IT'S BEEN 9 MONTHS! TGIS will treat you right, and will give you the best deal, bar none. Value I have to say is A+ as well. You get what you pay for. SETUP AND DAY-OF = A You guys are awesome and on top of it. Our reception was beautiful, and TGIS was the majority of it. TGIS made it stress free, what more could you ask for. VALUE = A+ We were very fortunate in our timing - TGIS' supplier suddenly had a massive order of petit filets and the sea bass that a major hotel chain ordered then cancelled. Because of this, we were able to upgrade our main dishes for a drop-in-the-bucket. Our TGIS manager and the owner gave us this deal, and as opposed to some other reviewers, we thought TGIS was a great deal and the food was excellent. One knock on value is we didn't always know how non-food items were calculated, making it hard to predict the final cost. These items (linens, chairs, chargers, etc.) are contracted out, and ended up costing us several hundred more than we expected. We tried to get an itemized accounting of how these items cost, but we never got it. In the end (if you're planning a wedding), you'll find that a few hundred dollars on these bigger elements at the end is a drop in the bucket, and we just had to suck it up and pay. MONEY SAVING TIP -Opt for the buy-it-your-own option for alcohol. As one reviewer points out, having the caterer bring the alcohol adds up. I reckon we saved $1500 by buying it ourselves. Overall, TGIS was an excellent fit for us, and we were very happy that we chose MOLAA and TGIS. Simply put, IF YOU WANT TO HAVE GREAT MEMORIES, A GREAT WEDDING, AND GREAT FOOD, book these guys. TGIS' owner, Sofia Riley, is so talented and creative!! She will come up with out-of-the-box and exquisite hors d'oeuvres, main courses and deserts.
