I've lived right by them for years and this the first I've tried this place. The owners are sweet hearts for one. The food is really good. I ordered their fried rice basil but spicy and it is really good. It is different from most places. Our go to place for thai, even though we live nowhere near it - it's worth the drive. We usually get the steamed dumplings, chicken panang curry, and pad thai with tofu. All are delicious. If you like SPICY food, ask for the hot peppers. As a bonus, the owner is the nicest person you will ever meet. He always gives watermelon and orbit gum at the end of your meal, whether you eat in or get take out. Only negative to this place is that they don't deliver, and to my knowledge cannot be delivered through a service (Eat24, Door Dash, etc.). But, like I said, it's so worth the drive! read more

My husband and I randomly selected this place to have dinner one night. It, by far, exceeded our expectations. Their customer service was the best we've seen in a while. So great, that I am actually write a review about it. We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and we were always treated with kindness and with a genuine smile by the waiter. These are things that should just happen naturally with customer service but unfortunately that is not always the case, at least in our experience. On top of their great service, their food was delicious. We ordered the pad Thai with BBQ Pork. Our waiter even brought us slices of watermelon for dessert, which I thought was a nice touch. Came here today with my boyfriend and we both loved it. The service was wonderful, so friendly and out food was very prompt. Finally writing a review after several delicious dinners at Thai Aree House, which still holds the title of Best Thai in my opinion. What sets it apart? Fresh ingredients, super-friendly service, and the TASTIEST shrimp pad thai I have ever had. The sauce is clean and flavorful, not heavy and soggy like too many other restaurants, and the shrimp taste like they've been on the grill for a minute or two, with just a hint of char-flavor to them that extends throughout the dish. At the end of the meal, we were given complimentary fresh fruit - watermelon and what we thought was mango at first but turned out to be persimmon, which was sweet and tasty. The food was ready fast and delicious. A modest but clean dining room. Not too busy (just two soother tables occupied) I had the steamed wontons and the chicken Thai basil dish. Decor aside, this place offers some truly disgusting food. It's always offensive to read a litany of great reviews on Yelp and then discover how wrong they are, frustrating as well! We ordered drunken beef noodles, panang curry and the classic pad thai with beef, both of which lacked flavor and fresh ingredients. The service was pleasant but this is obviously irrelevant when the food is so bad. We compared this experience with our favorite Thai restaurant Thai Classic on Clark and everything here was flavorless, old, and sterile. read more

Went here for the first time for dinner with my boyfriend after reading all the positive reviews. The place itself looks sketch from the outside, but has a very cozy feel indoors. I'd have to agree with others in praising the service, our waiter (who actually seemed more like the owner) was very attentive. The beef pad see-ew tasted super fresh and delicious. I have been wanting to try this place forever. I have gone by quite a few times and they are always closed. They certainly do have strange hours. I read somewhere (maybe on Yelp?) that the owner wants to have more of a personal life now so he opens for limited hours plus closes for a few months out of the year. I totally respect that but it sure does make for difficulty in trying this place. Anyway, the important thing is I finally made it there. I absolutely loved my entree. I am usually quite predictable, always ordering veggie spring rolls and veggie pad thai with tofu. Not this time. I decided to go outside of my comfort zone so I orderd a fried tofu appetizer, which was good but not great. I might get it again but am not dying to. Now my entree....that is another story. I ordered this dish of noodles and broccoli in a peanut sauce. It usually comes with your choice of meat but being a vegetarian I asked for tofu instead and they happily obliged. OH MY GOD! This entree was delicious. The noodles were the large flat kind and definitely homemade. The broccoli was steamed to crispy perfection. The peanut sauce, I think I had a dream about it last night.....damn those limited hours. I want to go back for lunch and they are not open!! I will definitely go back to Thai Aree. read more

YUM!! The food is so delicious! My sister and I decided to stop in on a whim after driving around looking for appealing restaurants. From the outside, it's nothing special and pretty easy to miss, but it's worth a trip over here. The owners are so nice and friendly that it feels like you're eating at their house. The best Lard Nar I have had in the city by far. The noodles are the perfect texture with a rich flavorful sauce, and the meat was much higher quality than most thai places. And per their recommendation, asian broccoli. So good. Charming vintage 80s thai hole-in-the-wall interior. Friendly staff, eager to make recommendations. Next time I will opt for spicier than their suggestions, but I tend to like things spicier than what is usually served in the midwest. Delicious Tom Kha Ga. god, i really wanted to like this place. the first time i came here we ordered basil chicken (thai style) - and it was GOOOOOOOD. i mean, really good. i mean it. and i was really happy i came. the 2nd time, i ordered the pad see ewe. that is usually my go-to dish - my test dish for all thai restaurants. it was really not good. like, really. not. it was dry. now, how can PSE be dry? it was like there was no sauce at all. and maybe that's the way it's supposed to be prepared - i dont know. it was really disappointing :( we ordered the shrimp in a blanket - those were okay, too. the good news is, my friend ordered the basil chicken, and it's still amazing. i would come back for the basil chicken, definitely. but that's the only dish i trust. read more

Okay so even after not being able to receive delivery from this place twice and refusing to ever attempt to order from here again... I cracked. I just hear to many great things about it. This time I went with carry out. I was in the restaurant for less than five minutes, and was more than impressed by their outstanding service. The feel of the place is great as well. The food, I cant quite remember what I ordered... I apologize it was about a month ago. But parts of the meal were outstanding, others fell short when I compare it to some of the other Thai I've had. This is my second favorite Thai place in the city. Right after, Siam Rice and Noodle on Sheridan. Unfortunately, Siam is too far from my house to get it often so I decided to try this place and now its my back-up Thai restaurant. The panang is delicious as well as the pad see ew/pad kee mao. Its a little different than Siam (which I absolutely love!) but its definitely home style food not altered for the American palate. read more

Everything is fresh and delicious. My family has been getting take out here since I was a kid. It's still as good as it was when I was little. I enjoy dining in. It's usually pretty empty (not sure why) and the owner is so sweet. They make the best pad thai I've ever had. The panang curry and masaman curry are also superb. Best peanut sauce ever.
