I am Thai so I have pretty high standards for authentic Thai food. Now, I understand that this is in a strip mall - so I set my expectations slightly lower and I was overall pleasantly surprised with my meal. Let me start by saying the interior is beautifully decorated. Very clean and lots of Thai decorations. The service is really top notch. Our water glasses were never empty and they came to check on us often. All of the food came out nice & hot, a great sign that everything is cooked to order. We ordered: Appetizer platter: my favorite part about this dish is all the food came out piping hot! Typically these appetizers come out like warm and greasy. This was not the case at all. Loved trying the two different sauces Papaya salad: I was so excited to see this traditional Thai dish on the menu since most restaurants don't have it. Overall it was very tasty, but it was missing some key ingredients like dried shrimp. The sauce was heavy on the fish sauce and I prefer my sauce to have more lime juice. Spicy catfish: another traditional Thai food that my dad used to make at home. The catfish was piping hot (signs of being fresh!) and I loved the green beans in it as well. I also appreciated that the sauce didn't drench my catfish. Mango & sticky rice: a delicious desert. Could've used more of the coconut white sauce, but the coconut shavings provided a nice crunch. Overall, I would definitely come back if I lived close by. Good prices, great portions, and stellar service. Really a solid 3.5 star restaurant. read more

A real disappointment. Mediocre food and mediocre service, except when the floor manager got involved to help out the waitress. We ordered Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, Three Taste Salmon, Veggie Fried Rice, and Brown Rice. The spring rolls were okay, but we ordered everything extra spicey, i.e., native Thai, but all came out very bland and largely tasteless. Don't know why the Cabernet Sauvignon has a description for Chardonnay; waitress seemed peeved that I asked her about it. We won't bother with this place again. read more

I came here for a UYE lunch. It's cutely decorated, with pleasing colors. The service was quick, our dishes were brought out fairly quick after placing our orders. There were lag times between some orders, but for the most part, it was relatively quick. For my lunch special, I got an order of chicken pad thai for $7.25. It tasted fresh. Went here last night for dinner. I got their phad Thai with chicken and a hot tea. The tea was decent, what you would expect from any restaurant. In regards to the phad thai, I would not recommend it without any sort of spice. It seemed slightly ketchupy but still extremely edible and good, just needed a kick. Next time I'll probably try the drunken noodles when I come back to visit my dad. I'm not giving up on them though, just need that spice. read more

Atmosphere*** Service*** Food***** Price*** Atmosphere: Nice than most Thai restaurants that I have been to, but nothing overly flashy. Simple wall decorations and well spaced tables for the lunch rush. Service: Waitress was friendly but not talkative at all. Flashed a couple smiles but was generally more interested in bringing water, the food, and the bill. I wouldn't give this a negative comment, it just doesn't fall into the positive territory either. They were very quick about refilling water and making sure that I was on my way in a timely fashion. Since the place wasn't overly crowded, I take that as a chalk up for efficiency rather than just trying to cyle bodies through the joint. Food: Probably the second best Pad Thai I have ever had, after a place outside of Washington-Dulles Airport, also called "Thai Basil." The sauce was very flavorful, teetering on the peanuty side with very little of that cheap ketchup flavor that some places use. The noodles were well coated, not dry whatsoever (nothing worse than dry pad thai IMHO). The bits of spices and peanuts were perfectly balanced agaisnt the onion and chicken. And boy was the chicken good. The most tender chicken I have had at a thai restaurant, melted like butter and tasted as if it had been marinating for days in a spicy peanut sauce. Extra points for this being during the lunch rush hour, I could tell that my portion was freshly made rather than simply being scoopd out of a giant vat. I also had a cup of the Thom Yum soup which was probably the best Thom Yum I have ever had. Not overpowering with the lime, and just enough basil and onions to tie it together. There was something just right about the way it tasted, probably just the overal balance of flavor. Again, the chicken was super tender and they gave a generous portion of protein. Mushrooms were cooked nicely, not just thrown in. The only quip is that as far as I can tell you only get one spicy level, it had a slight kick, but I prefer to be sweating bullets. Price: Roughly $7 for the Pad Thai, and $3 for the cup of soup. In terms of price v. portion size, you can find better..but in terms of price v. quality (which is what matters) it's a steal of a deal. If I lived out here, I would eat here on a regular basis. I will gladly open my wallet for food this good. Bottomline: Who would have thought you'd find Thai food this good out in Lake Oswego? read more

The problem I have with Thai places is that I seem to get overly sweetened or overly unseasoned food. Here I was hoping that Thai Basil would be different. We went on a weekend. It wasn't terribly busy, but the servers were nice and explained the menu to us. I liked the decor and table settings, very theme-y. We shared the pineapple fried rice, some satay and pad thai. The sauce that came with the satay was just bland. Very little heat or character to it. The pineapple fried rice was delightfully decorated with the pineapple top, but again, it could have used some oomph. The pad thai was on the sweet side for me, but my dining companions said otherwise. This place has some okay food - it's filling and will satiate your need for some quick Thai food. I would have left after our first interaction with the staff, but my daughter had her heart set on eating here. The food was extremely bland and not worth the money. I didn't feel the need to leave a tip due to the horrible customer service and food, and the waitress interrogated me as to why I didn't. First impressions. Nicely lit interior, very well kept and clean, quiet. Staff attentive, friendly, and quick. Ordering was smooth and delivery to table was pretty fast. The meal. We started with the basics and decided on some appetizers. To get a feel for all if it we went with the "Combination Plate" which comes with blanket shrimp (deep fried shrimp), golden rolls (deep fried veggie rolls), fresh spring rolls, and satay. All of the appetizers were pretty standard. They were good, but nothing fancy and nothing that really stood out. Pretty much what you could expect from most Thai restaurants in the PDX area. Main courses were Drunken Noodles w/Chicken and Spicy Basil Stir Fry. Presentation of the meal was very nice. The dinner items were plated cleanly and looked well prepared. The drunken noodles (pad kee mao) were spicy and certainly good. With a little love from the spice tray these were much tastier. Again, I have to say that the taste was pretty on par with most other Thai places in this town. Good but not overwhelming in any area. The stir fry was ok. Maybe it's just that we aren't big on stir fry but it seemed to lack any real complexity and flavor. It was palatable and I certainly ate most of it but this part of the meal left me feeling like I wanted something more. Even with some addition of the spice tray I just couldn't get what I wanted from it. Somewhat disappointed with our second dish. In the end, the ambiance was nice and we had a good time. The food did what food should do, it filled us up. Being a bit of a Thai connoisseur I'm always looking for that authentic (very subjective yes) experience similar to my time in Thailand. I would have rated them higher if it wasn't for their poor customer service and business practices. I placed a to go order including pineapple fried rice with chicken among 3 other dishes. Much to my surprise when I got home 30 mins later, my pineapple fried rice had no pineapple or chicken. So I called to ask for a refund since it was missing the main ingredients. I was told by the manager they couldn't refund me that instead I can come back later and they would remake it for me for free. So I went back a week later and reminded them what happened about my order being incorrect and wanting them to remake it for me. They basically gave me an attitude about it instead of being apologetic for their mistake. That's not good customer service and I won't be returning. read more

Literally 100 meters from my hotel (Fairfield Inn) without crossing a street. The food is some of the best thai I've had, and I get around a bunch in North America. I had the Yum Yum salad (I think that's the beef salad) and it was not the usual strips of charbroiled beef on a greens, onions, etc. This was finely sliced, tender, medium rare steak with super fresh lettuce et al, and nicely presented. The dressing was an amazing combination of flavors. I ate an entre size. I had the seafood combo, and again, fresh and delicious. I ate all of that too. I chased it with thai iced coffee. Thai Basil is one of my friend's favorite Thai places in the area so we went there for lunch today. We were greeted and seated quickly and I was pleasantly surprised at how large and spacious their dining room is. Seeing the front of the place, I expected a much smaller crowded space. We ordered two items from their $8.25 Lunch Specials menu to share: Pad Thai and Yellow Curry, two of our "benchmark"items that we usually order at Thai restaurants. Both dishes had good flavors, and the.yellow curry sauce was the way I like it. . .thick and sticking to the ingredients. I don't like thin, watery curry like some other places have. First time here. The wife and I tried the appetizer combo plate, as well as the pot stickers. Be aware that the pot stickers are deep fried, not the usual pan fried. None the less they were very good. We both opted for the the pad thai in chicken and tofu. The spring rolls were a little on the strong side due to the cilantro. Other than that it was delicious. I've been looking for nice place to eat lunch that are near my work. Luckily, my work are really close to a few good place including Thai Basil. I went here on a Sunday, so it wasn't busy. Omg the interior of the restaurant was really cozy, fancy, and the lighting is very easy in the eyes. The servers are friendly, and they have a place for 1 to 2 person dining, I appreciate that a lot! As usual, I ordered one of my favorite, Drunken Noodles with Tofu and really spicy. I was really really impressed with the taste. The price of their food are affordable and the servings are just enough. I will definitely be coming back soon. Go try them now! read more
