Ordered takeout from Thai Chili Basil through DoorDash. Was I wowed? Not really. FOOD: Ordered the drunken noodle, pineapple fried rice, oriental seafood, beef satay, and the Siam wings. The drunken noodles weren't the best I've had, but they also weren't the worst. It was just a tad bit too salty for my taste. The pineapple fried rice, beef satay, and Siam wings were good/average. They did skimp out on the seafood though for the drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice. I think there were only like 2-3 pieces of shrimp, squid and scallops each within the drunken noodles and fried rice, but since I ordered the oriental seafood, it sorta compensated it? Crying tiger for people who like spicy, the crispy chicken doesn't taste very traditional but it's so yummy! We've also tried their crab rangoons which were plentiful along with drunken noodles that comes with shrimp and chicken with no up cost like most places.. Can't wait to try other tings on the menu! I'm the last member of my household to succumb to an unpleasant but ultimately unserious bout of illness. Fortunately, I've taken all the recommended steps, so it could be worse, but I'm not having a fun time. Since yesterday, all I could think about was tom ka talay. My father is no longer infectious, and he graciously agreed to procure me some. It was made fresh when he arrived. I'm sure it was partly because I have a fever, but I'm not joking when I say I teared up a little over how good it was. There's just nothing like soup when you're sick, and this soup was excellent. At first I was hesitant to order take out because of the recent low reviews I had read regarding food and service. But, I decided to take a chance because I thought the price was really great compared to most places. So I ordered on crispy chicken pad Thai, chicken satay, and pork dumpling soup through GrubHub. I was given about an hour estimate for my delivery, but I had my food in my hands in just about a 30 minutes. It was EXACTLY what I was craving!! The crispy chicken pad Thai was delicious. Large chunks of peanuts and scallions, lots of chicken, and plenty of rich sauce. I was actually pleasantly surprised with the noodles. They were chopped, crispy egg noodles that were really nicely cooked. The chicken satay comes in four pieces and are large chunks of grilled chicken. It comes with I side of peanut sauce and a cucumber carrot dipping sauce. I also ordered a dumpling soup - in the description it says it's a sake-spy broth. The broth was amazing. All in all, with a good tip it ended up being less than $30 with more than half of it to spare, so I'll end up eating it for dinner too. If you're looking for a good Thai place I absolutely recommend this place. The food is fantastic and full of flavor and the service was great as well. To top it off, awesome prices. Thai Chili Basil is a solid choice for Thai takeout. We recently ordered through GrubHub and had a great experience. The delivery was prompt and my food was hot when I got it- you can't ask for much more than that! I tried the Pad See-U and my husband ordered the Drunken Noodle. Both were great and very similar. They are essentially the same dish but with different sauces. The Pad See-U has no spice to it, while even the mild Drunken Noodle has a little bit of heat. We also ordered the Scallion Pancakes which weren't my favorite, they just weren't fluffy and retained a bit too much oil for my liking. Overall, this is a solid place for Thai takeout! read more

Beef satay was delicious. The marinade is perfect. The cuts of meat were really thick too. The ga pao chicken is decent. I think it's made with that dark sweet soy sauce though which isn't typical. The Pad Thai Gai Grob (Pad Thai with fried chicken breast and sweet chili sauce) is incredible. It beats every other Pad Thai in the area (and I've tried most). It's so flavorful, and the crispy chicken on top is never soggy. It's also consistently good every time I order. I've never been to the restaurant or strayed from my key order, but you really don't have to. My roommate and I decided to order Thai food last night and try a new restaurant around the Medford/Malden/Melrose area (usually we order from Tom Yum Koong in Medford). Thai Chili Basil served to be a huge disappointment. I always check for Yelp reviews before trying a new eatery, and I am astonished that Thai Chili Basil managed to acquire 3.5 stars. I gave this place one star solely because the delivery time was on-point. I would have waited the extra 10 or so minutes to receive food that was above average instead of getting completely lackluster Thai food. We ordered the following dishes: Pad Thai, Chicken Pad See Yew (I requested the Pad See Yew be extra spicy), Thai Iced Tea, Mango Sticky Rice dessert, and Thai Rolls (With orders of $25 or over, you may use a coupon to receive a side of free crab ragoons). The restaurant was "out of ragoons" so the dispatcher on the phone asked if we would mind Thai Spring Rolls. I was more than happy with either side because who doesn't love free food? WRONG. The rolls were still pale on the outside and soggy because they were not fried properly. Not to mention, they were beyond bland! How do you mess up spring rolls!? It boggles my mind. Let's move onto the main entrees. My Pad See Yew was bearable at the most. Had it not been for the extra soy sauce and chili-garlic paste I added to my dish to re-hydrate the poorly pan-fried flat rice noodles, I probably would have thrown out the entire dish. The chicken was awfully dry too, but I decided to go ahead and shove down forkfuls of the entree as I had paid a little over $10 for this pathetic display of Thai cuisine. My roommate's Pad Thai was one notch up on the atrocious scale. My o my! There was absolutely NO flavor with the Pad Thai! The chicken was disgustingly dry. I'm surprised the restaurant managed to even cook the shrimp. And talk about peanut overload! I don't have a peanut allergy or anything, but if I wanted peanuts with a side of noodles. I could have made that myself. The icing on the awful Thai food cake was the dessert. I literally laughed out loud because the mango looked like it had been left out on the counter for days to ripen (and it still wasn't ripe). The most hilarious part of this dish was the sticky rice which was congealed in plastic wrap. I took a photo of my roommate as he held up his block of sticky rice in plastic wrap with a disgruntled expression. The sauce that comes with this dish was probably watered down glue they used to bind the rice together...DISGUSTING. The sole saving grace of this entire meal was the Thai Iced Coffee...absolutely no complaints there! Needless to say, my roommate and I will NOT be ordering from Thai Chili Basil anytime in the near future. I knew I should have stayed loyal to Tom Yum Koong. After driving around the other night in Melrose not sure what to get for dinner, I thought I might want some drunken noodles so found this place to try. The place is really small and not really an option for dining in. They only have two small tables placed together against the wall. We didn't wait long for our food and the lady at the front counter was friendly enough. The drunken noodles was decent...very spicy though - I'd say spicier than the one chili they indicated on their menu hehe. I live this place. I also live its Main Street Melrose location with a shit down dinning room. Both places have very polite staff and great food. I love their duck entrées. I came in on my way home in the middle of a storm and ordered dinner at the counter. It was ready in ten minutes and still hot when I got home. They also have freshly pressed juices, with pulp!!! My oldest son and I get lunch here once a week. He loves the Mango Curry and I love the Pinenut chicken. The Pinenut Chicken is so good I don't really want to order anything else. We've had other things off the menu that have also been delicious - Thai rolls, spring rolls, thai ravioli and shumai. Probably some other stuff and it has all been great! They have two locations - one in Melrose and one in Ipswich. I don't know if the menus are very different. I've only been to the one in Melrose. That location has lunch specials but I didn't see them listed on their website. I will have to amend my review and take this down to a 3 star review. This is in regards to the portion size. It seems that Spice Thai has purchased new takeout boxes that are half the size of the ones they use to have. It's a lot more shallow, so it can hold about half as much food as before. How do I know for sure? 1. The first couple of times I ordered, I had enough for dinner and lunch for the next day. 2. I'm not ashamed of it, I eat straight from the takeout box, so I know that my grip/holding style is different and the box isn't as heavy. I wonder if other diners have caught on to this too. It's my go-to place for pad thai--specifically pad thai gai grob (pad thai w/a fried chicken breast on top, and lots of chopped peanuts). I've had a number of other dishes from there over the years that have ranged from excellent to just OK. The staff is always friendly. So I got take out today from the Melrose location for the second time. The pad thai I got last time was delicious! The sauce was delicate and the veggies were just the right level of crisp. I decided to try something new today and went for the (slightly) more adventurous drunken noodle. It was just okay. I have had some great drunken noodles before, that were nice and spicy and chewy. These were pretty bland, kind of too soft and all stuck together. Maybe next time I will ask to kick up the spice-factor. The tom ka gai (chicken/coconut/mushroom soup), on the other hand, was amazing! I don't even know how to describe it. Try it! I want to assume this place had a bad night, but I need to share out experience with the food. We got take out on a Sunday night. It arrived fairly quickly, but that was the best part. We got: Thai roll - good Mango Curry (medium spice)- the curry sauce was thin and soupy and bland, barely any flavor. It seems as though they mixed the sauce with a ton of water or vegetable stock. - very disappointing. Vegetable pad thai - barely any vegetables and lacked flavor. We've gotten food from these guys twice, and I'm pleased to say that they're my new local favorite for thai. I was sad to leave my beloved Lemon Thai in Somerville, but this place is a great substitute. The Scallion Pancakes are nice and light, with good flavor. The Drunken Noodle dish was delightfully spicier than we expected. Be careful though, the Thai Fried Rice is kind of addicting and it didn't last, even though the portion size for a main dish from this place is quite large. And, don't forget dessert! We'd never tried the Mango with Sticky Rice dish anywhere before, so, as we were going outside our comfort zone on this particular ordering spree, we decided to partake. Delicious! If you like the gooey deliciousness of cinnamon buns, don't pass this one up. Sure, you're thinking I'm some crazy fool to compare rice and mangos with cinnamon buns, but wait! You're taking sliced mango with clumps of sticky rice and either dipping it in a gooey, sugary coconut mixture OR creating your own kind of mango shumai and pouring the good stuff on top. Yum yum yum. Of note: As this is the Melrose location (they have another in Ipswich) they do not have seating of any kind and this is only takeout/delivery location. I did see a sign that mentioned they were going to be expanding the Melrose location to include a dining area, but it did not specify when that would be happening. Alright, good Thai food in Melrose! I have travelled to thailand twice and spent all of college surrounded by thai friends who only accepted the best thai food in Boston (like the original Rod Dee). I have been pleased with the food from spice thai kitchen. I do find the food oddly SPICIER than it typically is in america (sometimes too spicy to enjoy) and once in a while my stomach is a bit unsettled after eating their food. If this was for a restaurant in Boston, it would get one fewer stars, but in the burbs this is very good Thai. This is a take-out only place. read more

It's fine, maybe 3 and a half. I think it is not as high quality as some of the places around here and you know it's a take out place, not a fancy sit down restaurant. I think it would be ideal for hanging around with some folks, drinking a couple of beers and watching sports or something. The prices are great, the portions are great, the food, well it's good not great. I still reccomend and it is a great addition to Melrose long term. The tempura (and there is a lot of it) seems to be more like you would get for the breading in a sweet and sour recipe at a standard Chinese American storefront. I do like that you can choose the spiciness. The price to quality ratio is such that it gets the four, but there is higher quality thai food in the area if you are introducing someone for the first time. This 4 Star review is based on this experience/food order only. I came in here by exploring the shops in Melrose, on Main Street. The entrance to the place is shared by other shops in an enclosed hallway. Once inside, the decor is nice. Orange-ish walls, accented by wood tables. The waitstaff was very friendly and answered all my questions with ease. Had some smooth Jazz playing though out the night. Appetizer: Siam Roti. I love Roti, interesting to have a version where naan was used. The naan was buttery, not as crispy as I prefer, but still good. Paired well with the sweet coconut based curry it came with. Drink: Thai Lotus white whine (recommended for their cuisine, forgot the name) - more sweet than dry, as suggested, goes very well with the cuisine. Main Dish: Roast Duck Noodle Soup. Very similar to a Vietnamese Pho, this soup had plenty of noodles, herb, and roast duck. Very hardy and filling. Dessert: None. I was too full from the soup to order dessert. We ordered take-out from Spice Thai Kitchen for the first time last night because the two Thai places in Wakefield were closed for the night. I got my standard - appetizer of crab rangoons followed by main course of pad thai. I know, I'm not super adventurous when it comes to thai food, but these are my faves! The pick up time was speedy - 15 minutes. The portions were so huge that it was a more than filling dinner for my husband and I, even though we only ordered one portion of each. It was a great price too - $17 total. The crab rangoons were a big disappointment. They basically tasted like large dollops of regular cream cheese in a wrapper. Of course cream cheese is a big ingredient in this dish, but every other place I've had crab rangoons at spices them deliciously, often with sweet curry. The pad thai was fine. It satisfyed my craving, but was nothing to rave about. I'd go back if I was in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't seek it out. read more

First the fundamentals, the pad Thai is very good. I'm all about the old country pt with plenty of American-scaring fish sauce and garlic and they didn't disappoint. Pt score of 8/10. Tried the crazy noodles, I missed the part about the lo mein noodles - meh. Beef satay was quality and the peanut sauce (the precious) was as good as it gets. I asked for extra chili sauce and I got extra chili sauce. Phone woman was friendly enough. Only flaw was no chop sticks or forks or napkins in the bag - luckily I was taking it home but if I was bringing it back to work or my car God forbid I would have had a thrombo. Well... when debating on a 3.5 star place, I simply need to eat from the place some more to help me decide for one.
