Hands down this would have to be my favorite Thai place in town. It is ALWAYS extremely packed. They recently changed their hours and are only open for lunch. So it's even more packed. Seriously, if you're not there right at 11am expect to wait but it's so worth it. Literally everything I've had on their menu is delicious!!!! I would say my favs are the Thai Country Fried Rice, Panaag Chicken, Tum Yum Soup w/-Soft Tofu, and Chicken Laab. At least that's what I can remember right now. lol!!! It was oily and bland, next time I will have to find another dish. its usually very good so I was surprised. There are not many restaurants in Fresno where you will see people waiting in line. But this place beats the odds. The five of us went here for lunch on a Saturday around 12 pm. Fortunately we got seated right away. About 15 minutes after, we started to see people are waiting to get seated. We ordered 4 dishes - seafood tom yum, pad thai, chicken panang and chili squid jam. Chili squid jam is a must get! They are crunchy and sweet at the same time. Tom yum was good too, they put a good amount of seafood - although the scallop is not that fresh. I don't know when they changed their hours, but one unfortunate condition of this Thai gem is their hours. Lunch only! It takes a confident chef/owner to rely simply on lunch business only when I would surmise they would more than double their revenue with dinner service; but that is neither here nor there. The people in charge value their off time. I love that! It puts us, the Thai craving heathens, at their mercy and I'm ok with it! Why? Because the food is that great that you would drive across town, in traffic, during lunch to indulge in the rhapsody of their epicurean ecstasy. We choose 4 dishes, but only recieved 3 as they came out individually and by the time the 3rd came, we couldn't imagine starting a new dish as we've only barely completed most of the previous 3 dishes. Point being, portions are large. Like, family style large. Which is great! Still you are paying the same for an single entree at any mediocre restaurant. Thus, we cancelled the beef larb. We ordered the Yum Nua salad, shrimp basil fried rice, and green chicken curry. Fried rice was the best out of the three, but I would order them all again. The Yum Nua was a close second. The fried rice with the juice of the yum nua salad??? Omggeeee. The fresh greens and mint with seared beef and topped with chili sauce. So amazing. The brightness. You can't wait to take another bite. Service was great. The server took back our green curry when I mentioned it had too much oil on top. She also was cool when we cancelled the beef larb dish. Didn't mean to be difficult. Just didn't know the portions are so ample. Not a complaint as much as a welcomed surprise. Loved the experience. Can't wait to return. It was our favorite a few years ago. Their Seafood Eggplant is one of the best seafood dishes in the area. But, the wait! We used to wait hours for a seat. This time we arrived early before 12 pm. Seating was quick, order was quick, other than waitress recommended Catfish with ginger flavor, which turned out to be not my cup of tea. Then, wait....wait... We literally waited an entire hour to see our order come out. When I inquired, the waitress said they were busy with big to-go orders. Ok. You could have warned me. I've been coming to this restaurant for years and love it! It's a small location so there's always a wait, which is why I haven't come as often! My favorite for lunch! They have amazing lunch specials! Love their papaya salad Thai style, panang chicken curry, and crispy chili jam squid. Those are my go to dishes! Dinner time is always packed! So come prepared to wait or try to beat the dinner rush by a few minutes if you can! Staff is very accommodating and attentive! Let me tell you about my favorite Thai restaurant in town. For years I passed by thinking "how good can this place be? It's in a random older development next to a gas station." For this reason I never tried it. One day a Thai client of mine suggested we go there for dinner. I'll tell you now, this is a classic case of don't judge a book by its cover. That meal was one of the best Thai meals I've ever had out. This was several years ago but I remember what we ordered like it was yesterday. We started we chicken satay, mango salad and potek (spicy seafood soup). Then we had the Thai Country special fried rice, 3 sauce whole fish, chicken panang, larb gai, phad prik beef, sticky rice, steamed rice and mango sticky rice for dessert. EVERYTHING was excellent!!! And everything tasted super fresh. We now always have a few go to dishes. Hands down they have the best panang around. It's amazing! We ALWAYS order it. It's ALWAYS consistently delicious. If I could bathe in the panang sauce I would! It's always very busy, but that's to be expected when the food is great. They always do the best that they can. If you go for lunch, good luck getting in after 12. You have to go around 11:30am to get seated right away. The dinner crowd is just as busy. Just expect there's a high possibility you're going to be there for a while. I almost don't want to review this place because I want to keep the secret to myself and be selfish by not sharing with other people how fantastic it is in fear that I can't get a table, but alas I love this place so much, I want to help spread the word. Unfortunately the restaurant didn't live up to the good reviews we read. The Pad See Ew was very bland, and the noodles overcooked. The orange chicken had pretty good flavor, but would prefer much smaller pieces. The chicken was cut into huge cubes and the breading was falling off most of them. The egg rolls weren't bad, but a bit too heavy on the fish sauce in the sweet and sour. It also took quite some time for our waters to be filled. One of the servers needs a lesson on racial discrimination and fair/equal treatment in a public establishment. My husband and I noticed that we had been treated differently by this server in the past. During our recent dining we observed that she had seated 2 people who had arrived at 2:45 pm which was 15 minutes near the closing time of 3:00 pm. She also took orders from another couple who were waiting to be seated and delivered their food when they were seated at 2:30 pm. Our observations reminded us of a couple of times that we had been turned away from this server when we arrived at the restaurant at 2:45 pm (the first time) and 2:20 pm (the second time). She turned us away by telling us they stop seating because the restaurant closes at 3:00 pm. The people she had seated were evidently of a different race than my husband and I. As we were paying for our meal, we tried addressing our observations and concerns of how we had been treated unfairly to the cashier who kept refusing to acknowledge it by gesturing both her hands in the air and saying "I don't know! I don't know!" which made us feeling very perturbed by this disgusting experience as we left the restaurant. I don't leave negative reviews as I don't like to hurt a business or impact its ratings however as we mentioned to the cashier it's crucial to know so this discrimination and unfair treatment doesn't ever happen again not just to us but other customers as well. read more

I was really excited when we went to Thai Country Restaurant. I've read most of the reviews and a couple of my friends highly recommended this place as well. The decor was simple with signs of Thailand every where. They have 2 large round tables along with several 4 seater tables, and 2 seaters. They can probably seat about 50 people in one sitting. We ordered: Mongolian beef, panang, pad thai, spring roll, and rice. The spring rolls were good. The peanut sauce that came with it really compliments the spring rolls. The mongolian beef was only okay. If felt that it was cooked in a pan that probably was not cleaned too well. It tasted as if I was eating a lot of the residue from the pan. I may give anothe try if I go back. The panang was good. I would recommend this plate if you like curry. The pad thai was my favorite. It's comparable to any of the best pad thais that I've had in Fresno. The Service: The service was okay. I think our waiter could of done a better job selling thier best food for us. We had asked to see if she can recommend something for us that will help us remember Thai Country Restaurant. The only thing that she can recommend was the fish. However, I think that this may be a lack of experience in the selling piece. I would have love to hear: "If you like chicken, I would recommend our ??? dish. It's ???. etc." The waitress came by only once to ask us how we were doing after we got our food. I had to ask for the waitress to refill our drinks. Bathroom: The restroom was clean, and it even smells clean. I love it when a restaurant takes care of their restrooms as much as their main dining area. Even though I didn't give it 4-5 stars, I think I can give it another try to see if my experience will be better with their food and service. read more

My favorite Thai restaurant in town! Portions are plentiful for the price and I love their lunch menu. Very polite workers and the food is delicious! Family owned mom&pop place, I love it! Everyone I have introduced to the place has LOVED it. I've been going since the previous owners owned it, years ago, but the taste and quality has remained. My favorite dish is the tofu basil and the pad thai is very good. The curry is not watery like very many other "Thai" restaurants. Thai Country Kitchen is a dainty restaurant knitted within Clovis. I came with a group of my coworkers who knew the restaurant well and basically ordered for me. I heard there was a new owner and the place was recently renovated - but decorations/interior shouldn't reflect the quality of food anyway. Now I love Thai food, but their authenticity was beyond what I've tasted - food was fantastic! We started off with deep fried squid and tum yum soup. Appetizers were DE-LISH! We proceeded to order the Pan-Ang curry chicken, garlic deep fried grilled Tilapia, and chicken laab (please excuse my spelling), as well as a round of iced Thai tea drinks. Now we were a very hungry party of five and we left the restaurant with 2 boxes. 1 dish portion is small if you eat it amongst yourself, but when it comes to family style you might have bigger eyes than your stomach. The server/owner was lovely - she was super courteous and very helpful. The restaurant got surprisingly busy on a weekday night as we got up to leave. I can see why :) Will be back soon! read more

Best Thai in Fresno! Food: Papaya salad and thai iced tea are the best we've had anywhere. Be careful with the spiciness of the papaya salad, as it can be extremely spicy!! We can both handle spicy foods, but the 7 spiciness level here gets us sweating and reaching for the thai iced tea (in good way of course). The pad thai, pad kee mao, and black pepper and garlic chicken are all really good. This is our go to restaurant in Fresno. First time there, and it blew us away! My family has a favorite thai place in Merced that we order from at practically every gathering, but this was better. My boyfriend and I got the cucumber salad first. Cucs were fresh cut and crispy, and the sweet chili dressing was a perfect combo of sweet and spicy. We shared the pad Thai and yellow curry. The noodles were good but the curry was the star of the show! Great flav but the texture turned it up to 11. I've never had such rich and creamy curry in my life. The portions were so giant, we took home half the food. Lunch tomorrow!!! Really packed for a Tuesday night but worth the wait! We are definitely returning and trying allllllll the dishes. read more

I really enjoyed everything about this place. The server I had was excellent and the food is excellent as well. The restaurant itself is a bit small, but it's nice and cozy that way. I went there for dinner and was surprised to see how packed it was. However, the service did not become less as a result of the amount of guests present. I had cashew chicken while my boyfriend had a duck plate. I can't recall the name of his plate but my oh my, did he love it. The server was also very considerate, as my boyfriend and I love love love Jasmine rice and was going to order the large size when she told us that it would be smarter for us to just order each a serving. She was right, there was enough rice for us with just the one serving. You know, my first time stepping into this restaurant, I did not know what to think. Every time I drove by this place, I just looked at the name and thought, 'that's a little odd'. But finally, my boyfriend and I decided, what could it hurt to try something new. OK this restaurant is really not authentic, probably to non "south east asians" it is authentic thai food, but to us SEA it is pretty Americanized. I say this because the food is over salted and over sugared almost like candy, this is not thai food, this is americanized thai food. The best food here is the chicken satay, and thats the only good thing out of 4 things we tried. The pad thai was not authentic, and really poorly flavored; the tom yum, was not made with fresh stock, tasted very artificial, and the soup was too salty, the deep fried shrimp was ok, but very skimpy small shrimp was used. The thai tea was also just ok, on the stronger side, and tasted like the tea was recycled again and again. I wouldn't brag on the service either, was really slow, and the water tasted like it was not even filtered. The servers didn't even ask how the food was, just asked if they could do anything else, thats just poor training right there. And even worse they got our change wrong, giving us back only $4 instead of $14 and didn't even bother to rectify their mistake themselves, we had to go to the counter and get then give our rightful change of $10. No receipt was given. An apology was attempted, but such mistakes could have been prevented if receipts were printed I would come back for the satay, but everything else was really poor, Please improve. read more

The previous reviews seem to be more hung up on the decor than the food. Truth be it all, who cares about the decor if the food is awesome, which it is. Mongolian beef and the cashew chicken are some of the best i have had. Their curry's are great. I've also tried many of there other items and have not found one that i didn't like. read more

Forgot to post this but I ordered papaya and sticky rice from this place yesterday and it was bomb! Honestly, I wouldn't eat anyone's papaya but my sister's, because I'm super picky when it comes to papaya. But, I would have to say this place is an exceptions. The papaya was cooked just right, not too soft nor too hard. The only down fall about this place is that it only open until 3:00, then it's close for the rest of the day. I love this place and I think others would agree as it is almost always busy. Be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes for a table. I mean 20 minutes is not as bad as two hours right? This place is definitely worth the wait. If you're really in rush or starving, call and place an order to go. On to the food, I highly recommend the chicken panang, it is delicious! I was never really a curry person, but once I had their panang, I was hooked. It is not too spicy, but it does pack a subtle kick. It is flavorful without the saltiness. I also taste a bit of sweetness in this dish as well. If I had to choose one word to describe this dish, it would be savory. I haven't had this dish with other meats but I can definitely attest to the deliciousness of the chicken panang! Their phad thai, cucumber salad, spicy beef salad, and sweet and sour chicken are also delicious. If I were to give each dish a grade, they would all recieve A's (it is that good). I know times are tough for small businesses, and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I definitely think you should give this place a try, because they have some incredible dishes. I love the food and prices here but the extremely slow serving staff and kitchen service is a real damper to the experience. This sluggish service seems to be a trend at the lunch hour. On my last visit, it took 40 minutes to get my food with 2 other patrons and 1 to-go order for 2 people. 40!!!! Not only did it take a ridiculously long time, this is the 2nd time that the kitchen messed up my appetizer order of Golden Squid, making Golden Prawns instead of Squid. I'm pretty sure I saw the server jot down Golden Squid on his little notepad. Dinner isn't nearly as slow. Extremely discouraged by my last experience, I'm thinking of only going during dinner hours now. =\ Oh and another thing to note, they don't seat for dining after 2:30pm, even though they close at 3pm for the mid-day break. A long day of watching other folks do their thing, and I got a bit hungry. Thai Country is down the street. AS usual I ordered the noodle soup, seafood in this one. It was a big bowl of hot, steamy noodles in a not-too-salty broth, a welcome change from the the norm. Good amounts of cuttlefish, fishballs and imitation crab, and lots of the obligatory bean sprouts. No basil, no cilantro though, a bit disappointing. Couldn't finish it. The spring rolls were big as well, crispy and light with a couple of tasty sauces. Nothing out of the ordinary, other than the preggo-size. Three rolls to a plate. Had a take out on Saturday during lunch time, the place was semi full and still got my two dishes out of the door around 10 minutes. They fill up the plate to the top so no skimping on their part, you should get your money's worth. Was very impress by the speed, maybe it was a fluke but first impression means everything. Nice location and nice looking place to dine in. The food taste great, like what you would expect at any Thai restaurant rated 4 or higher on yelp.
