Had the Pumpkin Green Curry with Chicken, Thai-Hot and a nice coconut juice to cool me down. The curry was fresh, spicy, not too oily, not too thick or heavy, had lots of vegetables in it and had pumpkin! Asian pumpkin though, not what you think. This place had great service too. Cute waitresses who were helpful and professional. Thai food is suppose to make you pop, make you feel alive and give you energy. Not make you feel like an oily fat disgusting sloth who is hungry again just after 30min of eating. Friday nite found us anticipating going to see the Indiana Jones flick as well as meeting friends for Thai. We like to pick the UA10 on Broad Street b/c typically it's not packed like other theatres around town. So, that left us only one choice of restaurant- Thai Diner in the Westmore shopping center (has a sister location in Carytown). I can not say enough good things about Thai diner! Our party split apps: calamari, fried spring rolls, fresh spring rolls. Everything flavorful & appetizing which really whet my appetite for the main course. Hubs had the crab and shrimp fried rice special. His only complaint was that there were peas and carrots throughout and that's his #1 pet peeve about americanized asian food. (mine too if I think about it!) I had the chicken pad see eu- deeeeeeeeeelicious! Hit the spot! And I enjoy having the option of ordering the thin noodles w/my dish (I have texture issues w/the really thick/slimy noodles). An FYI-- If you've never been, Thai Diner has 3 kinds of hot. Medium (for us wimpy folk), American hot and Thai hot. Medium is still pretty dang spicy depending on who's cooking that nite. This is my favorite Thai restaurant. The staff is friendly and the food is reasonably priced. My favorite dish is Gang Moo Yang with chicken instead of pork. It's so delicious. Highly recommend. 4 stars instead of 5 because if you sit at the wrong table in the summer, the cold air blows on you and your food and you have to eat fast to finish before your food gets cold. Food was still very good and have no complaints about the quality, just would've been nice to get the type we ordered. I've loved this restaurant for years! Unfortunately the last visit I had about a month ago was disappointing. The wait staff got my husband's order incorrect twice. The cook attempted send out the dish again, but it was clear the cook took the easy way out rather than remaking the dish. He just threw some basil on top of the plate. Bad approach. Worst of all, after paying for our meals, my husband and I were walking out and saw a cockroach on the floor. We both looked at one another and shook our heads and said this is the last time here. Not impressed with with this restaurant, small portions, more expensive then other Thai restaurants in the area. Once they take your order and bring your food, good luck if they come back and refill your water. What I find rude is that once they bring your food 2 minutes later they bring you the bill and you just started eating. I feel like I'm being rushed, then you have to flag them down to get refills on drinks. Won't be returning!! Chadar Thai restaurant across the street much cheaper, lots of flavor, better customer service and of course bigger portions. read more

This is my favorite Thai place! I live in San Antonio now and I dream about the food at Thai Diner. I've been going there since it opened. It's a great, family-friendly atmosphere with amazing food. I love the appetizers and always order the pad woon sen as an entree. The calamari is the best in Richmond! I enjoy the service as well, the servers are friendly and fast. I'm not really a big fan of this place. It has a strange decor and seems dirty. I've eaten here twice and don't care for it. I've had the pad thai and the thai special (peanut sauce and chicken). I can only vouch for the yellow curry chicken, veggies and rice, it is my fav thai dish; however, other people I have been there with suggest other dishes which include making it super spicy. We used their online ordering system to order dinner and were given a time when the food would be ready. When my husband arrived they informed him that he needed to call to confirm his order...even though it did not say this on the website. He was then placed at the back of the queue behind every Uber eats and door dash driver there. When he finally arrived home with food more than an hour later, we were dismayed at the smallest portion sizes I've ever seen from an Asian restaurant. All containers including the soup were barely half full. So not worth the prices they charge and we were hardly full when finished, let alone having enough for leftovers--a main reason for ordering Thai! Only thing keeping me from giving a one star is that the food is flavorful and tasty. Just not nearly enough of it, and very poor customer service. No appreciation for customers picking up their own food and giving 100% of the money to them without the hefty cuts the delivery services take from them. Will not be back. read more

I went to the Thai Diner for lunch today after seeing good reviews on yelp. The Thai Diner is located in a strip mall down from Total Wine on Broad St. The restaurant isn't very big. There's a small bar in the restaurant. The décor in the restaurant is nice and modern. You seat yourself at the Thai Diner. The water is served in some cool cups. All meals come with a complimentary salad. Most Thai restaurants in the area do not give complimentary salad.The salad was tatsy.The Thai Iced Tea was tasty. I ordered my favorite dish, Pad See Ew. The Pad See Ew comes with American or Chinese broccoli. There's only an extra charge if you get seafood. The chicken, beef or pork is regular price. The Pad See Ew was authentic and tasty. My meal came out hot. The service was solid. The employees were nice. Thai Diner had a laid back atmosphere when I visited for lunch. There's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. Thai Diner is a good choice to enjoy authentic Thai food! read more

I have been a regular for at least 3 years and it's my favorite Thai restaurant! They have great food and it tastes so home-y! I usually get the spicy noodles or the green curry. I love their fish cakes so much! The staff is so kind and helpful and they recognize me whenever I walk in. Knowing that I like to experiment with different dishes, they often suggest things I'd like to try! The reason for putting one less star is because they are slightly inconsistent. Some days it seems like they've done a better job with a certain dish. It still doesn't effect how great of a place this is. read more

I love the Spicy Noodle dish (n7). I try to get my fix every week or two and I've managed to get a lot of co-workers hooked over the last few years. Medium spicy is usually sufficient, but try it "American Hot" if you think you can take it or "Thai hot" if you can eat a bowl of chili peppers. I change it up by trying different menu items on occasion and have not been disappointed so far. I especially enjoy the house salad dressing, which is sweet with a spicy kick. read more

Maybe the best endorsement of Thai Dinner's food is most of the regular customers order something other than Pad Thai, and the Pad Thai is excellent. Once the food arrived it's was ok, Thai diner 2 is sooo much better or Chadar Thai across the street is a good alternative. I always get Pad Thai, and it was really generic. The larb gai (chicken salad) was overly spicy, even prepared "American hot", and the coconut hot and sour soup was pretty watery and under-flavoured. Servers were pretty good, friendly and helpful. The restaurant is not much for atmosphere -- it's kind of a funky little place across from a vacuum store, with tables gathered from another restaurant's demise in an era with more sparkle. Bathrooms could use a good scrubdown, too. We'd go back, though I'd want to check out other Thai options in the area first... read more
