Today I read that the owners of Charm plan to open a Thai restaurant in Shockoe Slip in Richmond, so decided to check out this location. I was disappointed. Ordered a stir-fried green curry that was supposed to have been mild, and it was pretty hot. The veggies in it were raw and not stir fried, so couldn't eat them. Flavor was okay, but nothing special. Even though they have tables, it's not inviting. Takeout orders are walking past the whole time and it felt more like a Chipotle than a dine-in restaurant. Husband had Pad Thai and requested no peanuts, but they were on his meal. Waitress wasn't BAD, but just seemed like she did not really care about the meal nor the service. Won't be trying the Shockoe location based on this visit. read more

I walked in to pick up a takeout order and was offered water as I waited. I was sold. The restaurant was pretty quiet and a regular suggested the cheesecake. Just went here for the second time. The first time I ordered red curry to go, it was a very nice portion and tasty, but a little too much bamboo shoot for my taste. I enjoyed my entire experience at Charm Thai Bistro! I was in town from New York City- so I would say I'm very particular with my Thai food. I had the Green Curry and the Pad Thai. Green curry was really good, spicy and very refreshing! Both dishes were not too oily and very tasty. The Pad Thai is more tart than I am used to but still very good. The service was great, and everyone was sweet and respectful! The place is small but can still seat a decent amount of people and it's very simple and clean but colorful aesthetic. Would for sure come back again when I am in town. Definitely complete your meal with mango sticky rice and a Thai Iced Tea ! read more

This place is no joke! The Thai food in Mechanicsville has been not my favorite but this place has saved me! We ordered the Massamun curry, vegetable, fried rice, garden, spring rolls, Fried pork appetizer and regular fried spring rolls. The curry is the perfect thickness and just a little bit spicy but the white rice it came with mellowed it out. The spring rolls are super fresh but I wish it came with peanut sauce. Instead it came with a clear sauce which was very sweet and still good, but just not my preference. The fried rice is the winner of this meal! Every bite is bursting with flavor, and I always feel like you can judge a place by how good or bad they're fried rice, and this place wins for sure! The fried pork appetizer could have been a little more flavorful, but with the sauce it was excellent! And very crispy! We will be ordering from this place again, and again, since Thai food is my favorite! read more

What a cute place--the look is charming indeed and very calming with dark green walls and Thai handcrafts on the walls. The food is delicious too. My husband and I had the All Star which has two gyoza, two tempura shrimp, and two spring rolls. They were absolutely perfectly fried and delicious--not even a touch of greasiness to be found. These people know how to fry! Then hubs had the drunken noodles and I had the massaman curry and they were both wonderful. We will be back! (I do wish they had beer and wine tho...) read more

This establishment is new to us - we've seen it a couple of times and finally gave it a shot this afternoon after church. We ordered to go because we weren't sure if the restaurant could hold all of us (there were 13 of us in our party). We ordered 4 Pad Thai's - 1 shrimp (hot) the rest chicken (2 mild and 1 medium). We also ordered 4 chicken fried rice (1 hot, 1 medium and 2 mild) and an order of spring rolls. We had plenty of food! After all of us had eaten we had basically an entire fried rice left over! The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is...the chicken was a bit dry in all the meals and the shrimp had the tails on them in the Pad Thai with shrimp. The chicken being dry I can chalk up to traveling because this was a to go order (once picked up there was a 15 minute drive). The shrimp having the tails on was odd for us. Most of the places we've gotten this before have had the tails off and this was just extra work. The spring rolls were ok - not the best, not the worst. The flavor in all the meals was really good. The mild dishes were perfectly fine for the younger ones in our group. The medium dishes were spicier than we were expecting, but not excruciating. The hot dishes were - well, hot ! They were exactly what we signed up for when we ordered hot. Overall, we enjoyed our food. I wish I was able to leave 4.5 stars instead of just 4 or 5 because so much of the meal was good with a just a few areas of opportunity. read more
