MOMMY review I have been to this place a bunch to times and the quality of the food and service is why I always go back. Ordered through grub hub cause I had a first timers coupon and total bill came to just under $30. Everything was super hot when it arrived and smelled and looked fresh. I didn't make a couple specifications in the order that didn't get passed along, but I'm not sure if that was a vendor issue or grub hub. This is the BEST place in the South Bay for coconut soup. No matter when I get it, the taste is amazing. I love eating it with steamed rice and the portions they give for the large is so much both my daughter and I can get two servings out of it. Another favorite is the fried wantons, though I can only eat 1 or 2, it is a must have should you be ordering for a group of friends. Springs rolls came free as a coupon from the restaurant. Willy was my Dr. He hooked me up with a freshly worked eggplant and spicy basil leaf dish with a nice hot veggie soup. We ordered takeout from this restaurant and were sorely disappointed. The Pad Thai was a weird orange color and was basically a gelatinous mass of noodles with no flavor. At first, I was a little skeptical to try this Thai restaurant located in front of a motel...but when my friend, a Redondo Beach native, brought me here saying it has the best Thai food in town, I couldn't help but be curious! I'm so glad I took the chance! Thai Dishes is set in front of Redondo Inn & Suites, where customers of both can park in a shared parking lot. I've been here a few times now, and each time, we are greeted by the friendly owner. He is always polite and will usually make conversation with us. I really like their Dinner Specials! Each one comes with a bowl of soup to start, along with an egg roll, wonton, and fried rice that come with your entrée. It adds a nice variety to your meal. For my entrée, I always get the Pad See You - Flat rice noodles with broccoli, egg, and sweet black sauce. Found it on Yelp and it did not disappoint! Ordered online, easy fast and conveniently paid online. Got there to pick up and was greeted by a friendly gentleman. A few RDPD officers were also waiting for their order (always a good sign !) of officers are there more than likely it's delicious! They know their local spots . I can not remark on the cleanliness as were the reasons of some of the other one star reviews below as it was a to go order, but it was the lack of honesty and customer service that compelled me to give it one star and I DO hope people read this and take it in consideration before they patronize the business. This is a long review and if you don't like reading them, beware if you are unhappy with your food, their philosophy is, too bad, we won't try to accommodate you. When I ordered my dishes I asked if I could have the dishes not spicy as I could not eat spicy foods as it causes me a stomachache and he said we can control the spiciness level and he would order all the dishes mild. With the duck soup even though still spicy it was NOT too much, so edible but the papaya salad was too spicy, I could tell after a few bites and then stopped eating it but still got a SERIOUS stomach ache later. The next day, told him what happened and offered to show him that I had hardly eaten any and wonder if I could get a credit for half the cost for something else not spicy. He proceeded to scold me and say it was Thai food and that was what to expect. He is blaming the victim, had I NOT had that very specific discussion I would have just let it go but he KNEW about my issues, yet still let me order something he knew that I would have problems eating or not as the case actually was since I couldn't eat the order. He was more interested in just the money than the satisfaction of the customer. If he had said no, it can't change I would have said fine and walked down the street to Dominos. I had no car and staying at the motel so that is why I went there in the first place. Online I looked at the menu again, afterwards and saw more of the salads had a spicy lime dressing but the Thai salad had a peanut dressing instead. Since he and I had a discussion about my problem with spiciness he could have said, the papaya salad has a spicy dressing so we can substitute the peanut dressing or (as I feel) the salad was premade, he SHOULD have said that salad is spicy, we can NOT make it milder but here are some other suggestions... If you can eat spicy foods and since some other reviews were good (except again some issues with the cleanliness) you may want to eat here, but if you want to patronize a restaurant where an establishment actually cares about your eating experience and is HONEST about the food than eat elsewhere. He would have not had any loss, as the food costs are half the menu cost and I would have again patronized the restaurant and made him MORE money and he could have had a higher rating. read more

Pretty solid little hole in the wall! Went here for based off a recommendation because it was close and I was hungry. So pleasantly surprised! The portions are very large and the food is pretty good. This is not the best Thai food you've ever had, but the cheap price, large portions, and service make this place a strong recommendation! I got the spicy basil eggplant and my friend got the chicken yellow curry dinner special. The food was good but not great and each of our portions were truly massive. The dinner special is a MUST. This is bad Thai restaurant that I have ever met. Water has smell and weird taste. I saw nails of waiter that was black and dirty. He is not keep clean in order to serve food for customers. When I went to restroom I saw he sip food or soup with his fingers that was terrible. Pad Thai is too sweet. Pad See Ew is decent but look is bad. It is not look good. Coconut soup is delicious. Sometime, the food is okay but sometimes are not. I don't know how they control quality of foods. It is up and down. This is quiet area if you want to get private but they don't have WiFi for you. Everything is old like TV and don't expect to see sport Chanels. They don't have it for enjoying your dinner. Restroom is not clean and don't have hand soap for wash my hand. This is my go-to Thai food restaurant. While I have eaten there many times, I generally prefer delivery. In fact, in all the years (20+) I've had restaurants deliver food, only once did I order pizza. All of the other times, it's been here. Yes, they clearly know me. Ha ha The food is excellent and you can choose how spicy you want your food. I go extra spicy usually. I'm all about the hotter the better! I really enjoy their soups, especially Tom Yum Kung with shrimp. When I am sick, this definitely helps. I highly recommend. There isn't a bad entree on their menu. I've had so many dishes with some of my favorites being Pad See Ew, Eggplant, and coconut curry. I could go on, but the mere thought of their food has me itching to order from here yet again:) If you enjoy Thai food or want to try it for the first time or had a bad first experience some place else, I highly recommend you try this place. You won't be disappointed. I would have given this 5 stars if I was only rating the food and delivery, but with the dine-in restaurant atmosphere and rising cost of the food, I couldn't justify it. You know what's great? Having a friend who lives close by who encourages you to be active and gets you out of the house! You know what's unfortunate? When that friend who helps motivate you to workout also shares your love for Thai food! On more than one occasion now our workouts have involved meals...who does that right? (don't get me started... I used to go jogging and I would pack snackies in little ziplocs for my journey! No joke! I would be running and eating cheez-its or bacon...yes bacon while running!) I've taken a sabbatical from my personal quest to find the best Pad Thai and I've taken on a new pursuit along with my workout buddy to discover the best Pad Kee Mow! The verdict: This location of Thai Dishes isn't as seedy as it may seem from the outside. It's attached to a motel, but that actually works to the diner's advantage because you can park in the motel's parking lot . The interior of this location isn't too inviting, but it's not repulsive either. At 8:58pm on Thursday, October 22nd: I used the Yelp App to order Pad Thai and Duck Salad from Thai Dishes, Redondo -- luckily it was a cash order.... As soon as my order was placed I saw a tip from another Yelper suggesting that people order via GrubHub in order to qualify for a free Thai Iced Tea for spending over $15 -- a promotion that Thai Dishes runs or used to run on GrubHub. Instantaneously I went to my email (an email had just come in from Yelp / EatStreet confirming my order) to call EatStreet and cancel the order. The email did not list any number for Yelp or EatStreet, instead, the number for Thai Dishes was listed along with a message to "Feel free to call [Thai Dishes] for any issues with the order." So I called Thai Dishes, within 80 seconds of placing the order, to cancel it. I explained to the woman on the phone that I would be placing an identical order through GrubHub momentarily. The woman on the phone responded that my order was already ready (impossible,) so I asked her if she could honor the GrubHub promotion and include a Thai Iced Tea since I had spent over $15, she responded that she could not do that. Bad customer service, I told her to cancel the order completely, she squawked "what!?" and I hung up and called Thai Top in Hermosa, where, coincidentally, I am the Duke. None of the above warrants this review, not even the poor customer service / customer retention, what happened next though is entirely unacceptable: Ten minutes later, someone in some sort of management / ownership position at Thai Dishes called me. "I hear you called in about a drink or something?" he stated. I filled him in on my side of the story explaining that I had asked to either cancel the order and re-place it through GrubHub, or for them to just include the Thai Iced Tea gratis as a courtesy, and when his employee said that was not possible, I told her to cancel the order entirely. The manager / owner began berating me on the phone, telling me that I "had to cancel the order via EatStreet," that I had "made a big mistake by mentioning the name of an EatStreet competitor" while on the phone with his employee. I did not appreciate this person calling me, harassing me at 9:15pm and telling me what I did wrong, so I hung up on him. Feeling pretty upset, I called EatStreet corporate. I told the EatStreet employee, Maria, what had happened. She was already aware of the situation as the owner / manager of Thai Dishes had filled her in already. To my disbelief Maria told me "yes sir, normally when you place an order through an app, you should also cancel through the app..." I cut her off... "Maria, have you personally placed an order through the Yelp app, via EatStreet?" "No I have not," she responds. I proceeded to explain to her in detail how her company's product works via the Yelp app -- that they give you the number for the restaurant and no option to cancel through them. When I asked where they were located she said "Madison, Wisconsin." I didn't even know that Wisconsin has a tech scene... Silicon Lake?!?!? Update: After writing this review I decided to follow up with EatStreet. Dave (a "supervisor") answered. He was familiar with aforementioned incident. When I recounted my story to him, he confessed that Maria was a new employee, and that EatStreet's integration with Yelp is "tricky." He apologized for the terrible user experience, poor customer support, and he vowed to speak to management about the belligerent owner of Thai Dishes. EatStreet issued me a $15 Amazon gift certificate to make up for their blunder. Let's see what Thai Dishes has to say.... read more

This review is for the Redondo Beach iteration of Thai Dishes, not to be confused with the Manhattan Beach, or El Segundo, or other Thai Dishes...awww heck, they are all good. Really, really consistent and flavorful Thai. When dining Thai (or most other ethnic) foods, what stands out is the ability to create quality, fresh, and flavorful food that is consistent and won't offend the typical American palette. Thai Dishes does all of this remarkably well, and brings both the old standards (Pad Thai's), and the complex traditional Thai fare. I am a huge fan of the steamed Gyoza from thai dishes...they can be mushy other places, and I save anything fried for entree lovin. It's so easy at a lot of places to fill up on apps, but these Gyoza are light, the filing is mild but with just enough ground chicken and spice. We normally get a Kang Ka Ree yellow curry and add broccoli and chicken. I request the sauce be thickened a few degrees...I just don't like runny curries. But either way you go, the flavor is deep with the heat comin on late in the bite. I'm a huge fan of this dish...the creamy coconut milk is the forenote, the curry the aftertaste and it works so well throughout each bite. This is consistently an amazing dish. I also like the Special "Spicy" Fried Rice, and I'm not afraid to order this at the "Spicy" level...the rice is pan fried in a deep brown fish and soy sauce with dice veggies. The onions have a nice carmelization adding another note of sweet heat to the flavor profile. You cannot go wrong with a good seasoned pan, some heat, chili and curry notes, and a fried rice. Goodness...I want more right now. Spice levels for Thai dishes range from Mild (American spicy), through Medium (some gringos will find this hot), Spicy (standard heat for Thai natives), to Very Spicy (watch out, if you aren't used to it, you won't find it edible). I normally get curries at Medium to Spicy level, and Pad Thais or Rices at Spicy to Very Spicy...love me some heat. We have done dine in, and delivery at Thai Dishes locations and service is good either way. Last night was a much needed delivery and eat in front of the TV night. Restaurant has a good online ordering system through Eat24.com and estimate was 45 minutes after order...food arrived in 42. Driver was super-friendly. They included extra sauce and the dishes are double-wrapped for security of the good food. Thai Dishes delivers a tasty, low-price, amazing meal...every time! ENJOY! read more
