They had a limited menu with kitchen table, and we tried the lamb and chicken rendang with mee goreng noodles and roti canai respectively. The mango salad was tasty too! Unfortunately, the roti was somewhat disappointing, as it was already pre-made and reheated which made it greasy and not too appealing. The owners are from Ipoh, Malaysia (a couple of hours from Penang) and were very polite and willing to please. Apparently, they also make 'Bubur cha-cha,' a classic coconut milk dessert which contains sweet potatoes and taro. I might have to try it next time.

Truth be told, I am not a fan of the original version of this dish because of the bitter edge from the lye. So though this isn't quite authentic I prefer this version (without the bitterness). The noodles weren't quite right (mixing rice vermicelli with yellow noodles) & it was not that wet or black, but I was okay with that. There was a lot of pork & shrimp in it. It was flavourful though it didn't quite have the smoky wok flavour. The stock was rich & it was generously seasoned with liquid lard & crispy lard. The belachan (hot sauce) was odd - like spicy samsui chicken ginger sauce.

My friend knew all the staff and proceeded right away to speak Malay. Let my friend do the ordering, I recognized a few of the dishes such as beef curry, chicken curry (both with roti), boneless chicken rice plate, chicken skewers, grilled sambal stingray, penang hokkien mee and a few other dishes (look at photos) I didn't recognise. There was one interesting dish Rojak, a mixed salad of chopped fruit & vegetables smothered in a pungent fermented shrimp sauce, sweet, tangy, spicy, a whole smorgasbord of flavors dancing on my tongue. Three words I've never used to describe Roti, theirs was crunchy, fluffy and moist, wonderfully dipped either in the beef or chicken curry. Chicken skewers were grilled well, meat remained moist with a nice grilled aftertaste, not necessary to dip into the accompanied curry sauce as the overall flavor stood on its own. The Sambal sting ray was a little disappointing, didn't match the memory of the one I had at the Singaporean hawker food court I had a few years ago. Overall flavor was lacking. Penang Hokkien Mee is the real deal, large plump shrimp w/ firm egg noodles in a somewhat spicy flavorful broth. Ordered take out, got home, the hot noodles were starting to stick together, quickly separated using my chopsticks. The curry soup stock was placed in a separate round container, still very hot. The fish balls, tofu, chicken, bean sprouts were swimming in delicious hot spicy curry broth. When combined with the noodles I could have sworn I heard angels singing. The only thing was the noodles was more vermicelli than the udon. I think next time I'll order it I'll get it for udon only. Definitely coming back here for the bakkutteh dish my other favourite!

They were packed with flavor and the various components all worked really well together. The Malaysian Street Style did flirt with being just a little too sweet, but it was balanced out with the other components. Everything was decently priced, too. The bill, with tip, came out to around 25 bucks, which is great considering the quantity and caliber of food we were given.
