This has to be the North Shore's best kept secret. I have been to Thailand and Pandas food was authentic. We had to wait about 40 minutes for the food (we were told ahead of time about the wait) and it was worth it. Service was friendly and we got to eat dinner with a couple pigs and chickens hanging out. Pandas Thai is located just across the beach so perfect opportunity for a lunch or an early dinner with ocean views. Will absolutely be back here when we visit Oahu again.

"The Light of the North Shore during the storm"…read more When the severe weather hit Koolauloa and entire State of Hawaii this week, even the largest establishments like Foodland and McDonald's had to close their doors, one small beacon remained: this incredible family-run Korean food truck at Polynesian Cultural Center- Marketplace in Laie, HI was open. While the rest of the island went dark, this family owned business run by husband, wife and 2 young men worked tirelessly from dawn until midnight. Families and couples and even children waited in the rain/cloudy weather patiently, evening offering help to lighten the demand. Despite the exhaustion and the overwhelming demand, they never complained and never turned a soul away. All they asked for in return was patience and a little appreciation. We can all practice this more often. They didn't just serve food; they provided hope to desperate families and stranded visitors when there was nowhere else to turn. The food was authentic, warm, and delicious, but it was their spirits that truly fed us. In a moment of crisis, they were the hands and feet of compassion for our community. I have even traveled abroad in anticipation of experiencing the local cuisine. I was originally introduced to the world of phở by a Vietnamese friend a lifetime ago. I have been exploring the variations of the iconic dish ever since. My favourite restaurant in the world is Vietnamese-owned and operated, back in Canada. While visiting the Islands, I only recently had occasion to spontaneously stop and try "Pho Vientiane," a long-time frozen-in-place food truck--secreted along the Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula - on Oahu's North Shore. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection of Vietnamese street food this wonderful eatery was offering. The proprietors of this humble food truck were quintessentially customer service-focused. The menu options are impressively diverse, especially considering the size of the space in which they are stored and prepared. The service was impressively expedient, and the quality and generous size of the offerings were extraordinary. I was sufficiently impressed by Pho Vientiane to offer up five stars for the authentic tastes they offer. They are every bit as addictive as those I experienced when I visited South Vietnam - back in the day.
