    Thai basil stir fry
    Elton L.

Delicious made to order Thai and Vietnamese food in the food truck area of Kahuku. The Pad Kee Mao was savory with good "wok hei" - the taste you can only get with a very hot wok. The Thai basil stir fry was excellent with a gentle sauce that goes well over rice. So piping hot that it retained its heat all the way back to our hotel. Hmmmmmm mmmmm good!

This little blue food truck is hard to miss when you are driving on the main road of the town called Kahuku. It is one of the many food trucks in the area. If you are looking for something that will satisfy your cravings for Thai or Vietnamese food, you have to check this place out. Owners are a tandem of an amazing team who cooks up amazing-delicious food. My family and I definitely enjoyed the food we ordered, did not get to take pictures of the food we got. There are also a few table seating (benches) that you can sit down and enjoy your food.

My review is solely on the chilled fresh coconut experience…read more We were greeted with a sweet smile and welcoming spirit from the second we walked up to this open air hut. The owner asked me to pick out my own coconut out of the cooler that was filled with ice cold water. I obviously went for the largest one and then she asked " do you want more water or more meat in your coconut?" I wanted more coconut water than the pulp "meat" so she suggested that I grab a younger coconut "smaller" one. She explained that the bigger /older The coconut is, the less water it has but the more "meat" it contains. I went ahead and opted for a younger one and this thing was FULL of water. She grabbed a huge machete style knife and went to work on it.. it was a bit scary seeing the danger that these small businesses owners go through in opening these things to please us tourists. She was amazing at it. I do need to note the following. My husband does not like the taste of coconut, because obviously we are used to a certain taste which is what we are taught to believe coconuts taste like... but her loved this one! young fresh coconuts do not taste like anything "mainstream coconut flavor". It is a refreshing soft, delicate flesh which has a soft set jelly type of texture. It is slightly watery and you will taste the coconut water in it, think of Chinese jelly with very little sugar, almost buttery and melty. The water itself is very refreshing with a very little hint of flavor. We both really enjoyed our island fresh coconut experience and highly recommend you buy at least one!

Pho Vientiane...food truck extraordinaire…read more I admit that I'm a bit of a foodie and I'm always looking for new and tasty places to eat. I have even traveled abroad in anticipation of experiencing the local cuisine. I was originally introduced to the world of phở by a Vietnamese friend a lifetime ago. I have been exploring the variations of the iconic dish ever since. My favourite restaurant in the world is Vietnamese-owned and operated, back in Canada. While visiting the Islands, I only recently had occasion to spontaneously stop and try "Pho Vientiane," a long-time frozen-in-place food truck--secreted along the Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula - on Oahu's North Shore. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection of Vietnamese street food this wonderful eatery was offering. The proprietors of this humble food truck were quintessentially customer service-focused. The menu options are impressively diverse, especially considering the size of the space in which they are stored and prepared. The service was impressively expedient, and the quality and generous size of the offerings were extraordinary. I was sufficiently impressed by Pho Vientiane to offer up five stars for the authentic tastes they offer. They are every bit as addictive as those I experienced when I visited South Vietnam - back in the day.
