Overall 5 stars: Awesome food from a great local Chinese restaurant. There is something nostalgic about walking into a local Chinese restaurant and ordering takeout. When in the area you gotta try Laie Chop Suey. Food 5 stars: The food was full of flavor and hits the spot. I ordered the minute chicken with cake noodles and stuffed eggplant. This has got to be the best cake noodles on the island. First of all the portion size is large and the cake noodles hot and crispy. The stuffed eggplant with juicy and had tons of flavor. The dishes cost less than a regular plate lunch or burger meal (less than $15) at other places! Great deal! Service 5 stars: the staff was very friendly and the food came out piping hot and quick! I definitely recommend eating here when you have that urge for great comfort food.

Minute chicken with cake noodles, honey walnut shrimp, fried wontons, chicken low mien, chicken fried rice.

This is exactly the kind of food I've been craving since my last trip to Hawaii. We've never stayed this far north on Oahu and we're so happy to find this gem! Order family style and try things you've never had before. We ordered fried wontons, chicken fried rice, chicken chow mien, honey walnut shrimp and minute chicken with cake noodles. Everything was excellent! We could not believe our order came to $36 for all of that food! This is where the locals eat for a reason. Nothing fancy, just really good food with lots of leftovers. Excellent and friendly service too!

The small beef broccoli pan was over-price for me. It was over $40. As much as I love broccoli some of my party didn't like the fact that most of it was broccoli and there wasn't enough meat. It was still really good though .. I'm just used to paying under $40 for a small pan of beef broccoli. No smiles when I entered. Maybe I came on a bad day ‍ ... I like smiles when I enter a store.

Special lunch plate for $7.25 is a good deal! I wish they included sweet and sour pork, but I settled for the spare ribs instead.. It was a total failure snapping some shots of the food because we were so hungry from driving around the island that we practically inhaled our food. I recommend the cold ginger chicken, roast duck, and beef broccoli. I wasn't digging the sweet and sour spare ribs.. Seems to be a family joint since I seen some young ones helping to prep some to go sauce containers. Lots of different football jerseys on the wall, they are proud of their Kahuku boys in college and the NFL. Overall, great Chinese food spot on the North side.

I ordered and it would be ready in 10 minutes. Plenty parking in the Temple Valley Shopping Center with Times Supermarket, Times Coffee Shop, McDonald's and more. Plenty food and the plates were full and heavy. The noodles for the Crispy Gay Gee Mein tasted like the noodles you use for saimin. But, dry and firm in texture. I found a clear, long piece that looked like fishing line in my food??!! I should've taken a picture of it. But, I just threw it away as it was underneath the noodles and inside of the take out container. I ate most of it already when I found it. Oh, wells. That usually happens to my friend and not me. I guess, it was my turn and there is always a first time for everything. Lol. The noodles for the Soft Gau Gee Mein was soft, different type noodles for some reason. But, wet and really soft in texture. Ambiance inside is casual. Not sure, if we will try here again.

Tables had boxes stacked on them, little in the trays. It felt pretty uninviting to be honest. But the man behind the counter was kind and welcomed us in. While not much was in the trays, they did have what we were looking for, so we decided to order. The man behind the counter offered us pieces of the meats hanging in the window and we knew we made the right choice. The crispy pork in the window was amazing! Between the two of us we got fried rice, crispy pork, sweet and sour pork and the broccoli beef. Everything was amazing. I was even super impressed with the fried rice which actually had flavor, and I think was cooked in sesame oil. Then we both got drinks. I got the plantation ice tea and it was so flavorful! My son got boba milk tea and said it's the best he's had on island so far. We will for sure be back!

From the outside, it looks like any ol' storefront, but when you walk in, you have the counters where you can order for takeout, and to the left, you have tables for dining in. Sadly, they don't have the ladies pushing the dim sum carts around, but the service was fast! My husband and I ordered the typical dim sum items- shumai, har gow, rice rolls, wonton noodle soup, taro cake, and every table was gifted egg tarts! To our surprise, everything was made fresh and came out hot- the shrimps in the rice rolls and har gow were huge, and the shumai was about a little bigger than golf balls! My husband's eyes were huge when he saw them, and his immediate words were "omg, did we get a double order or is this one order?!" The shumai and har gow were nice and juicy when you bite into them, and the wontons were definitely made in-house by someone in the back. When you make a lot of wontons, you know that look that shows it was handmade! The rice rolls were delicious with the sweet soy sauce, the wonton noodle soup was delicious, and the taro cake reminded me of how my grandma used to make them. All in all, this is going to be a spot we visit again, and before heading out to the beach. So delicious, so fresh and just hits the spot!

My friend Gary T. digs da Chinese cuisine, so for pau hana Friday I decided to take my friend to Yen Yen Chinese Cuisine in the Kailua/Enchanted Lakes neighborhood. Yen Yen Chinese Cuisine is tucked away in a small strip mall, and the restaurant is kinda next door to the Safeway Supermarket. The restaurant reminds me of those old skool Chop Suey houses I used to go to when I was kid. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted & seated right away. Shortly afterwards, menus, hot tea, & water were dropped off at our table. While looking over the menu, we decided to get a fix meal for two ($59.00) which comprises of Egg Drop Soup, Fried Rice, Shrimp with Vegetables, & Spicy Eggplant with Pork. We also we ordered a separate dish of Shrimp Canton ($15.95) to add to our meal. What can I say about the grub? I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty our Chinese dishes were, as well as the generous portions of food.
