One year later and I'm still just as satisfied. Lunch time: - Lunch buffet ($6.95) I'm glad that when I'm back in the States I can come home to cheap tasty Thai food. Dan requested Thai food before heading back to Ann Arbor, so to Thai Garden we went. At first we were going to order a la carte, but after looking at the lunch buffet, we decided on that instead. For a measly $6.95 you can eat yellow curry with chicken, panang curry with chicken, fried rice, eggplant with tofu, sauteed vegetables, pad kee-mao, fried chicken, tom yum soup, egg drop soup, jasmine rice, fried bananas and some tapioca pearl coconut dessert thing. I was pretty impressed with everything on the buffet as it was hot and not soggy. Both the panang curry and yellow curry were deliciously creamy. The vegetables were nicely sauteed. The eggplant with tofu was a little on the oily side, so not my favorite even though I usually love eggplant. I liked the pad kee-mao even though Dan thought it was too sweet. Dan liked the tom yum soup a lot, but I thought it was a little intense in flavor; it was just a little too concentrated for me. We also ordered a Thai tea and a Thai coffee, both of which were pretty delicious. The Thai coffee was a little too sweet for me, but Dan liked it, which was fine since the tea was what I ordered. It's been about 2 years and my husband and I still go here for our Thai food! We've brought numerous friends and family and they fell in love as well. Everything we've ordered, we've loved. Tom Kha, Pad Khee Mao, and sticky mango rice has been our go to order. The service is still outstanding. The owner who takes our orders is always smiling and chit chats with us. Had the Massaman curry last night, it was great. We've been here several times and it's been consistent and tasty. My wife always orders substitutions, and while it's a bit hard to hear them on the phone, they've been good about getting the order right. Unfortunately they're tearing up the parking lot at the moment, but it's worth the walk around, and at 5pm on a Thursday there were already several tables occupied. Delicious food, great service! If you want to try a variety of items at a reasonable price, the lunch buffet is the way to go. For $7.95 (food only) you can choose from fried rice, chicken curry, pad thai, pad kee mao, pad sae ew (they alternate noodle dishes), eggplant with tofu, mixed veggies, bbq chicken, egg rolls, soups, salad, and dessert. It's a small, but good lunch buffet...worth the price. Aside from the buffet, they have decently priced lunch specials. Dinner can be a little pricey, but totally worth your money. Some of my favorite menu items include the tom kha soup with chicken, chicken pad thai, and green curry with beef. Thai iced tea or taro with boba are amazing. The owner and staff are very friendly. During the busy lunch hour, sometimes you may find yourself waiting a little for buffet items or the plate stack to be re-filled. I'd say the best time for the buffet is 30 min. after opening (sometimes they're still cooking buffet item dishes right when they open) or right after the lunch rush. read more

I came here the first time for their $6.95 buffet (now its $8.95 according to the sign on their window) which was decent but nothing l thought l would come back for. I love lunch buffets because l feel that it gives me a sampling of the menu without paying for it all and having a lot of leftovers l may not want to eat. I will say that you shouldnt judge this place on its buffet. I made that mistake and was just "meh" with the buffet. But since its the closest shopping center to our house, we have tried it periodically over the past two years since we moved back to the area. I tried their "fresh rolls" and OH MY! They are so yummy and healthy yet they deliver a lot of flavor with their sauces! My husband loves their massaman curry and l love sticky rice and mango, and they do have that on their dessert menu. Kudos, because many Thai restaurants in the area dont. I dont often dine in here anymore. Their interior is charming and nice for the space they lack but typical of what you would normally expect for being in a strip mall. They do have boba, which is awesome for me! Their boba tapioca is hit or miss but definitely worth it if youre needing a boba in a pinch! The people who run this place are very kind and welcoming. As l wait for my order, the man tells me that he is making my rice fresh--who can fault that? I'll wait a few extra minutes. Heck yes! The service can be slow, but l love their sign: Our kitchen is small, our love for food is big. Please be patient if your food is a little late. But we promise, Thai Garden's food is worth the wait! By far the best Thai food in Oceanside/Vista area, possibly in all of North County. We love Cha and his family, they are the absolute sweetest. Keep in mind that this is a family-owned restaurant, service is usually fast but can sometimes take longer. It's certainly worth the wait! Some classics: Thai tea boba, green curry, yellow curry, panang curry, and pad see ew. Their fresh spring rolls are a must! I haven't had this in a while, but I love their fried ice cream! Today was my first visit and I usually like to visit an establishment several times before I give them 5 stars, but today was a 5-star lunch, so I felt compelled to write my review! I had a cup of Tom Yum Soup and it was fantastic. Thankfully, the typical penis mushrooms that are usually in this soup were replaced by sliced white mushrooms and that was great. The soup was super. My entree was Pad Kee Mao which has chicken, egg, onion, bell pepper, basil, and flat noodles, but I didn't want bell pepper. That was the first time I've ever had that dish, so I can't compare to how it is elsewhere, but I absolutely loved it. It was perfect! My friend loved her papaya salad and chicken satay. Pretty good. Great prices and a nice variety. Service is slower but in a casual dining type of way. We came for dinner. Wanted to try some different Thai places. Saw some interesting options with there yelp photos of Thai food I never tried before so we came to check them out. We got the Panang Curry. It was EXCELLENT! I wanna say it was almost like yellow curry but more orange tone in color and different flavor but still a coconut base. Either way it was bomb, my favorite of all the dishes we got. We also got two noodle dishes (sometimes called drunken noodles) which were very very similar except one was hot other not for the youngest. I didn't realize what I was getting was so similar or else I would have got something different. Oh well. What threw me off is they didn't have a kids menu. So I didn't know what to order for my youngest, thus the second noodle dish. The service was on the slower side but more in a casual dining type of way. Didn't bother me personally cause I love the dine in experience to last a little longer anyways. For example we initially came in to the restaurant full of patrons but not a hostess or server in sight. After maybe a minute someone came out and seated us. Every booth had a sign saying (in summary) how the food may take longer but is made with love. The menu had lots of options and great prices. I particularly liked the dessert options. We ended up getting the taro custard to go. Was good, it was an eggy texture which was interesting, though I thought it was going to be a little more custard-y, but still good. We liked this place. Spent about $30 and had lots of leftovers. Portion size was plentiful and there was no skimping on the meat. Went here for the first time tonight. I was looking for a new place close by to try, and this place had decent reviews, so we gave it a shot. The alcoholic beverage selection is slim-Singha, Sapporo, Heineken, Chardonnay, and a red wine (Burgundy), which I do not recommend. Blah! But, what they lacked in beverage selection, they made up for in food. They have a pretty big menu with lots to choose from. I tried the Panang curry because the Yelp review I read recommended it, and it was deee-licious! My hubby got the fried rice and said it was a bit bland, but I think if we would have asked for a larger number on the heat scale (we both got a 5), then it would have been better. We will try a 7 next time. The service was good too; although, they weren't very busy when we were there. This is a good family friendly, small and quiet place to enjoy yummy Thai food. For such a quiet place, Thai Garden was quite a delight. So here's the breakdown. Food: I ordered their Pad Kee-Mao with pork, which is their stir-fried flat rice noodle (definitely on the wide side) with garlic, chili egg, onion, bell pepper, and basil. With spiciness range of 1-10 to choose from, mine was level 6 (per owner recommendation). As for what a 6 means, well, I'll just say I only started to get a little sweat on my brow near the end. Not only was the food delicious, but their was a near perfect balance of heat and sweet with every bite -sometimes ever so slightly on the spicier side, sometimes on the sweeter side, and sometimes spot on, which makes for an exciting dish that doesn't disappoint or bore the taste buds. -All for only $7.95 Beverage: In anticipation of working up some sweat with the spicy noodles and to fully appreciate a meal out, I ordered their Thai tea with boba. In addition to the attractive presentation courtesy of the tall glass (22oz), it was a perfect match with my meal both in taste and complementing the spiciness (for those of you whose tongues are like touch paper). -$3.25 Service: I am assuming my servers were also the owners, though I will try to confirm it next time (and believe me, there will be a next time!). In either case, they were very welcoming and offered damn good service. I do not think my water glass ever got down to a quarter full; which for someone like me is usually a near impossibility -even with the additional drink! Atmosphere is pleasant, but when it's as slow as it was, I'm not sure it is safe to judge -unless you are on a date or something like that, then it would have been well, nice, but a little "Midsummer Night's Dream"y. All in all, excellent food and excellent service. For now I am only giving it four stars instead of 5 because one trial is not enough for glorification and I haven't really had the opportunity to compare it to any other Thai places in the area. Went after work with my friend/coworker and her two children plus my own 6mo old son. The food was decent, it wasnt busy and it was in a nice cozy spot. My only complaint about the food was I didn't taste the spiciness. No matter what type of cuisine I get, I always pack on more to make it "hot". The 10 here did nothing for me and resembled a 5 spice level in my opinion. Still - tasted good, the wonton soup was better however. First time trying that soup, went for something new. Will go back for it again. Not very children friendly - nor was there much service. The two gentlemen were more interested in speaking to each other than helping us or our neighbors across. Thankful for the high chair however after I had to ask for it. Youd think observation would play a role here. All in all, not impressed by their service or spice menu, but the wonton soup made the trip more interesting. read more

I love this small family business. One of my top Thai food spots. Everything I've tried is absolutely delicious, but the chicken Panang curry is unbelievable. So much flavor and I love the sauce over the white rice, yummm. They let you chose the level of spice you want in your food. I love spicy food but spicy level #5 is good enough for me. I have been to several Thai places around North County and I can safely say this place is my favorite. Reasonable prices, friendly owner, and most importantly: Great tasting food! My usual orders are either the Pad Thai or the Yellow Curry and they have a spice level which you can order at 1-10 (I always go for 9, because spicy is always better :). I've tried the Pad See Ew and some stuff with the lunch buffet and everything is honestly quite delicious. In addition to the great classic Thai menu items, the owner always remembers me and actually remembers my orders as well!
