Amazing service and food. We tried the soft shell crabs and the fried salmon. The soft shell crabs where perfectly lightly battered so as not to over power the crab. The special sauce on the salmon had a deliciously lingering heat to accompany the crunchy and juicy salmon. Top it all off with genuinely friendly and considerate service. First time here today, I'm new to the area and have been looking for a good thai food restaurant and this is now it! Called in an order, pad see ew with chicken and cream cheese wantons, they said it would take 15 minutes. I was down the block and arrived within 5, and it was ready within 5 minutes after I walked in. Love that! Then, the individual at the front was so charismatic, funny, and nice. Instantly struck up conversation with me and my partner. We bought boba to drink as well and they came with these cool bag holders to hold the cup with. Never seen these bags before but I like It! Sooo good. The red curry level 5 was amazing. Tom kha is good with delicate full stem and cap mushrooms, better than the usual sliced bellas, yumm. It's pretty much a hole in the wall, but the curry is amazing. We walked in with only 1 other couple in there, which most of the time is a bad sign. Waiter was super nice and friendly. Food took a few min longer than at other places, but the sign on the wall already warned for that. I ordered the chicken Penang curry with a 5 on the scale of spicy (1-10). This was the worst Thai food I've ever had. We ordered for delivery and that part was fine but the chicken was so dry and overlooked we ordered two different types and they both were inedible. I've never had such dry food it was hard to chew and swallow Both chicken dishes had a small sauce in the corner but the container had melted . I come here for the Thom Kha soup and have never left disappointed. Its a quaint little place with the obligatory decor, framed up right in the main window. My daughter loves the little fountains. Booth seating is always available, or a few tables if you catch them on a weekend night. Clean establishment, and fairly well lit, although I rarely sit away from the window seat. There are signs up admitting the notably slow service, (seriously?), which I always forget about until I am back in the restaurant, again. The prices are great. A plate of Pad tai, and two cups of soup for around $25.00. this is immediately offset by the time it takes to actually get the bill and pay. While you wait, your kids can go play with the fish tank up by the register. You were done anyway, right? The owner could not be any more kind. What a great guy!! He is very eager to engage with you in conversation, as well as share his insights about his homeland. He is very proud to have come from such a beautiful place. My thoughts: Happy cook, Great cook. We (my daughter and I) tried another dish that I let her pick. Neither of us liked it (tasted a bit bland and almost dare I say dirty...) but I don't blame the cook nor the venue. Rather that is my inexperience with Thai food. We just will avoid letting the 5 year old pick our meals there from now on. $6.99 for lunch buffet? Sounds too good to be true. Most thai entrees are like $8-9, how can an all you can eat buffet be $6.99? Intrigued, but cautious, I walked in and tried it out. It wasn't bad! It's a slightly limited choice of fried rice, white rice, pad kee mao (?), panang and yellow curries, some egg rolls, egg flower soup, and some tofu dish. The flavors and quality of each dish were above average, especially for a cheap all you can eat lunch. Service is pretty good too, but only because it's slightly on the empty side of busy. I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience here. It is a local family owned business and customer service is always great. They greet you as you walk in with a smile. It isn't the fanciest or biggest restaurant but the food is delicious. During the week between 11-3 they have a Buffett for 7.95 if my memory serves me correctly. I veered off my usual Thai place to visit and try this restaurant. Visited the restaurant late Sunday afternoon and there was only one family dining. Upon walking in -you get to sit wherever you want. The first thing that caught my eye was their sign on each table which read something to effect of "having a small kitchen so food may take longer" my interpretation= service will be slowed. To my surprises it was quite the opposite. Our food came out right away 5-10 mins tops. We order the Tom kha soup which was very tasty. I can just eat a whole tub of that. It was pure perfection. We also had the fried rice, which was not my favorite. It was a bit to greasy and it was "over-fried" to the point that it was almost burnt. We also ordered the beef garlic and pepper- again not my favorite BUT the taste was on point. The meat seemed to be overcooked and tough to eat/chew. I was so craving a Thai Iced Tea- and my dreams where crushed- they said they ran out. I was like huh- how is this possible! ... The restaurant itself - needs to be kept a little cleaner, at least with the knickknacks that they have hanging on the walls on each table- because where I was seated the decorations had a thick layer of dust. The service was good- he was very attentive and nice. Overall- I would just visit this place for the Tom kha soup and possibly just for takeout rather than dinning in. read more

Let me start this review off by saying that I used to like this place a lot. Keywords: USED TO. I used to come here almost once a month, sometimes once a week, to get my Thai food fix. Did it for almost a year. Now this place has really gone down since I first started going here back in 2011. My girlfriend was discriminated not only during her phone order, but in person too. Over the phone (she was on speakerphone while I was in the room), I heard the person she was speaking to say that her eggplant tofu dish was going to cost her $40. I was like, what?! We have ordered this dish so many times, we know it's about $8 every time, $10-$11 after tax and tip. So she went in person and it was still $40, and they spent over 20 minutes going back and forth on what the cost of the dish was going to be. She ordered a curry for me, and when asked how spicy the dish would be, my girlfriend said "6." The person said, "You don't look like you can handle a 6. I'm going to give you a 4." My girlfriend replied, "no...I said 6." "No, we're going to do 4." "First off, the order isn't for me, and who gave you the right to change customer's orders for them?" I am in the process of filing charges for discrimination against Thai Garden. The service my girlfriend and I received here is not only unacceptable by my standards, but is actually illegal and in violation of several anti-discrimination laws, federal and state. BY THE WAY, the last time we came here, the male waiter didn't acknolwedge my girlfriend at all. And look at the review by Erica R, it sounds like the waiter in her review also chose not to acknolwedge her... But they got all the men's food out first. This is obvious sexism. read more

My mom and I frequented MANY Thai places before we found a favorite, and Thai Garden just might be the one! While I've only tried the panang and green curries and the pad thai I've always been impressed with the *consistent* quality of ingredients and preparation. Green curry especially, with its silky eggplant bites and crisp green beans may just be the sweet, creamy elixir of the gods. Pure ambrosia. All of the staff are very friendly and work hard to make sure you have a good experience - this place really feels like a classic family business which is sadly a rare commodity where I'm from. We'll be coming back to Thai Garden for a long time. read more

This place is a little hole in the wall in a tiny strip mall, but it is very authentic and well priced. We went with the family and it was wonderful. We had the Tom Yum Soup (delicious and served over a flame), papaya salad, and chicken satay as appetizers. For me the Tom Yum Soup was the most amazing of all the those.The chicken satay was a little dry for my taste, but that's how my husband likes it. He really enjoyed the chicken and the peanut butter sauce, For dinner we had the Seafood Pad Thai, Red Curry, Pad Kee Mao, and the Pra Ram. The Pra Ram had to be cooked without anything on it for my sweet little picky eater--- just steamed broccoli and water bathed chicken . . . that doesn't count. But the rest of the food was amazing! Well spiced and very delicious. I had no complaints. For dessert we ordered the deep fried ice cream and the Thai Tapioca. The deep fried ice cream was a breaded vanilla and my little one loved it. The Thai Tapioca is always great, although I wish they had served it with more of the sauce and had omitted the corn. The Thai Tapioca is a combination of sweet and salty, which makes it perfect. The tapioca pearls are green and it is served with a coconut cream sauce. It was about $60 for the entire meal. Great value! read more

Great place and cheap...can probably eat very well under $20 for two people... A friend introduced me to this place in Oceanside. I had been going to another place not too far from this and I am not unhappy that I found this place. The food is great, good soups and entrees. The rations are plentiful and come with rice. Canned soda is a drawback but I usually stick with water anyway, and beer? I usually go to this restaurant for the food, NOT the drinks...I'll stick with water, thanks! Updating my old review today on 8/4/12. The lunch buffet is still great. The price is great. And when I am in a hurry I get it to go and that is easy and quick. If you like Thai food with meat, the lunch is too good a deal. The service is so friendly. They like so much to please. This is very Thai. In response to other reviews I read, I would say the service can be haphazard, but that is not to be mean. I have been to Thailand and the idea of having casual service in a small place is common. If I want tea and they are not organized to serve me next, I just ask for tea. These are great people with a great attitude and great smiles. Yet still some days I know they do not understand exactly what my point is and I do not care. I talk too much anyway. I like the goldfish, though the great one passed, so sad, it liked people so much. It had sort of a human face. This place is great. They have delicious, high quality thai food. I used to be more of a curry girl but after trying their pad-kee-mow I am hooked. The lunch buffet is great--6.99!!! It's the perfect size, they offer two different types of curries, veggies, egg rolls, salad, rice, and their pad-kee-mow dish. Delicious. Believe me, I have tried A LOT (all over SD and the US) of thai places and this place ranks in my top 3 for sure. Awesome place! I just moved to the area and found delicious locally created/owned hole in the wall type places are few and far between. Driving down Oceanside Blvd, hungry for something other than a burrito, I found the Thai Garden at around 8pm. Very friendly calm atmosphere with friendly service! I was too late, but they have an amazing deal on a buffet Mon-Fri until 3 pm. I ordered the Garlic & Pepper Beef and the Ginger Chicken for my man. Big portions and delicious! The only bad thing I saw was that some pieces of the beef in my dish were a bit chewy. I think next time I'll get a chicken dish. I will definitely return (I was given a coupon for 4 free egg rolls with my next order), and get a boba tea with my next meal! Thank you Thai Garden! read more

I've been coming here for years! It's my go-to authentic Thai place. They have signs inside the restaurant that say "our kitchen is small, our love of food is great. We promise your meal will be worth the wait" and that is absolutely true. This place is owned and operated by the same family that put a little love in all the dishes. You can't go wrong with anything here. I always get one of the curries (try tofu or veggie!) and an appetizer like the satay chicken. Finish it off with a mango sticky rice and you're in heaven. read more
