I have to say, if you want veggies from Sysco and processed sauces, this is the place. My friend recommended it, but I know he did not have the red curry or pad see ew... Terrible. The broccoli was bitter and the pad see ew was not even pan fried. It was watery and tasted like plain soy sauce. I had to douse every bite of curry with hot sauce just to eat it... The only good thing was that they didn't seem to use much MSG, if any, and they were very kind to remove the pad see ew when we told them the broccoli was bad... The best Thai food we've ate for the last few years. I used to live in Thailand and have to admit that even there I have not eat so rich in spice, and kind of home-made food. They prepared everything from scratch, individually for every client, that's why it took about 15 min of waiting time. There were 4 of us. Everybody had soups, and a second course, and non-alcoholic drinks. Portions were huge and we paid $75.00 for 4. The owner was occasionally checking on us. We had great, tasty dinner and friendly service. One recommendation: Speak to your waitress or waiter very slow, and preferably point on your order in your menu for the best understanding. read more

This place has some okay dishes but I wouldn't go so far as to call it "authentic". We ordered Pad Thai, which when ordered in Thailand has both shrimp and deep fried, firm tofu. We had to pay extra for the tofu and it wasn't fried or cooked... just mushy plain tofu. read more

I called in a chicken fried rice order at 1:00 pm and asked for it to be ready at 1:30 pm for my lunch hour. I just got here, my order is not ready or even made yet! The girl says to me" oh, we not busy, we can make it right now." Seriously!! Furthermore, last week when I was here, I ordered tofu fried rice and was given chicken fried rice. After realizing this, after driving home, I call Noi's, tell them they made wrong order and to please make tofu order. Upon my return to pick up correct order, they all standing around, and no order was made! This NEVER happened when moi was cooking QDay. I will , from now on, rate and share my experiences here. I don't recommend this place. Got a wide rice noodle dish. The noodles were undercooked. The dish tasted like nothing. The servings were small for the price. Oh my gosh, what has happened to my favorite Thai restaurant??! I'm not looking forward to writing a poor review but I'm heartbroken and genuinely wondering what happened. Their papaya salad used to be divine. :-( I know Noi sold it a long time ago. Has it moved on ownership from Fonzie now, too? The Som Tum papaya salad was watery, appeared to be dressed with a quarter cup of water and 2T of fish sauce, 2T sugar, and not remotely spicy. All the flavor and pique of the Tom Yum soup seemed to have been replaced with sugar. The green curry was the closest to good but again, too sweet. My order was taken by phone and I was not asked how hot (spicy) I wanted, as they always have. Is it a new owner? The server seemed to be the same fellow, but in truth I haven't seen Fonzie in a while. What has happened? I've lived in Thailand and what they served last fall was the closest to authentic Thai (vs. American expectation of Thai) food. I am very sad. read more

This is a really nice little spot. The special is always tasty. It is not the best thai food that I have had but I really enjoy the mom and pop feel of the place. We were visiting Asheville end of October to enjoy the fall leaves and local sites. Cold and windy day and did not feel like heading downtown and fighting the crowds which were in for the Moog festival. Staying at a local B&B a few blocks away and we felt like a simple dinner close by. Noi's is a gem. A simple but clean and nice Thai restaurant in a small strip of stores along Merrimon. The decor was pleasant and the atmosphere was relaxed; just right for a family dinner or a couple. The food was great...really good....spicing was right and tastes and freshness were better than many I have had elsewhere. Prices were very reasonable for both quality and portions. We had soups (Chicken and Rice and Tom Kha) which were spot on; the sliced duck dish I had was really good with a surprisingly generous portion of meat to the rice and vegetables; perfectly balanced. Special mention to the waiters who were extremely friendly and helpful. Have to say that we wish these guys and this restaurant were in our town as a go to place. If you like Thai food and feel just like a simple stop, relaxed atmosphere and an even better meal....this is a winner. read more

Worst Thai food I ever had, not evident that the cook has ever tasted real Thai food. On top of that this guy in an apron -- the owner? cook? insisted on joining and taking over conversations at tables, including ours, and couldn't politely be gotten rid of. We just moved to Asheville and this place happens to be in our neighborhood, so we decided to try it. I ordered the Gang-ped curry with chicken and my fiancé ordered chicken pad-thai take-out. The portion sizes are decent but the food was not. The curry was watery and flavorless. The vegetables were so al-dente that I don't believe they had even been cooked in the sauce. The pad-thai was also lacking any sort of flavor other than spicy. The food was edible, but not tasty. On top of this, this place is pretty darn pricey, especially for the quality of the food. Wonderful food and wonderful service! Definitely one of my regular stops in Asheville. The food is delicious, authentic, and full of flavor- not too salty or buttery. We love seeing our favorite waiter every time we stop by. Looks are unassuming, but don't be fooled- it's definitely a local gem. It's nice to have a neighborhood Thai restaurant and I like eating here, but it's pretty average - at least at lunch. I've never eaten dinner. Prices are right, but I'm never full at lunch and am definitely not wowed. It just seems like basic Thai food. Curry dishes don't seem to have enough coconut milk. My wife and I decided to go to this restaurant for dinner at about 6:30 PM. It was the very first time and last time we would ever visit it! I will be as objective as possible in my rating. Will score the place in a scale of 1 to 5 being 5 the highest score: * The quality of the food = 3 * Cleanliness = 3 * Prize = 3 * Service = 1 * Courtesy = 0.5 The owner have two arrogant, unatentive and disrespectful employees Thai employees in the front of the house. It is a casual relatively clean restaurant, never the less the two Thai employees have costumer services skills more suited of a third world country, third class train conductor!!! While we had our dinner, Not even once we had our glasses of water refilled, as a matter of fact we had to ask for two glasses of water, not even once the waiter inquired if we needed anything else and to make matters worst, half way through our dinner the waiter bring the chek in a very abrupt manner and place it next to my dinner plate. Not even then he bothered to offer coffee or at least water. I told the waiter that we have not finished our dinner and that he should offer dessert or coffe or at the very least to wait until we were done and we requested the check! The two waiters body language was telling us kind of screw you! Then they kept laughing out loud while they look at us in a mockingly way! Well they managed to interrupt and ruin my dinner to the point I did not finish it!! We got up to pay the bill and the mocking continued! We demanded to talk to the owner, after insisting to the Buffons finally they called the owner and present our complaint. He was apologetic and offered us a free dinner for our next visit. I thank him never the less Declined the offer and let him know that we just wanted to pay our bill, get out of there and never come back! I absolutely love this place! I have had Thai at many other restraunts, and find that Noi's has the best BY FAR. The customer service is also wonderful. Wally makes your visit such a treat. He always remembers what you like...he is amazing. I am not sure why some do not believe it to be authentic? I think it is the most authentic I have had. Mixed reviews and experiences here, too. I visited a few years ago and was sad to find it less than tasty since my home is a short walk up the hill. Recently a friend visited and raved about the Tom Kha Gai - a favorite soup of mine. So I gave it another try and indeed, the Tom Kha Gai was very good. For my entree I chose Pad Thai - something I know how to make, and a dish I consider to be a barometer of good Thai cooking. Unfortunately the noodle dish I was served was extremely bland (missing the nam pla - fish sauce - at the very least, and probably the tamarind paste, too. The shrimp were also overcooked and tough. I was very sad about that. I will probably give them another try and avoid the pad thai. I will try a curry next time. The service was good, though. read more

This is the best Thai in the south east. Noi is a great cook and always very fresh and healthy. My children wanted to know if her family gets to eat her food every night and when I said probably, they sighed in envy. The fresh rolls are the best anywhere and get peanut sauce to take home. It is wonderful on salad or chicken. The pad see we is my kids favorite but I always get the special cause its always special. Plus you can get a fresh roll with it at lunch-- and more peanut sauce. Best food in Asheville by far. Other Thai is too creamy and rich -- unhealthy and Americanized. Noi's is the real deal and tastes fabulous. Any bad reviews you read must be crazy. I went for lunch at 12:30 and was seated promptly, I ordered the wide noodle with beef and spicy red sauce. With in 15 minutes my delightful lunch arrived. The smell was amazing, the plate was clean and tight. The staff was very attentive and nice. Very disappointing. My friend ordered Pad Thai and I got Panang Curry. Both lacked the spice and flavor we are accustomed to at any garden variety Thai restaurant. The Pad Thai was flat and simply didn't taste like Pad Thai, including none of the smoky flavor we are used to. I asked for my panang to be as spicy as they could make it, and I would rate it no hotter than a medium. Panang Curry portion size was good, though. Prices were plenty high.
