This is an absolute gem in the middle of Chester. We ordered the spring rolls, the Spicy Duck, the Drunken Noodles, Mussaman Curry with Beef, and the Pla Rad Prik. Each dish was so flavorful and fresh. The duck was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and plated in a delicious curry. The drunken noddles came with chicken and shrimp, and were loaded with yummy veggies. The Mussaman Curry had lots of beef and veggies, and the curry sauce itself was so fragrant, flavorful, and rich. The Pla Rad Prik was similar to the duck in that it was crispy on the outside and very warm and tender on the inside. It came with a similar sauce to the duck, and was plated with beautiful vibrant veggies on top. The ambiance of Thai Kitchen is excellent. I was very impressed when i walked in by the cozy and warm, yet upscale decor. It has the vibe of a small, upscale thai restaurant that you could find in Manhattan. I would definitely come back and bring friends if I was showing them around the neighborhood. The service was similarly warm and upscale. We went for dinner, the four of us were craving Thai food. For starters: 2 orders of roti canai and tom yum Koong soup. The soup was good, it tasted like sinagang. The nice lemon sour taste. The roti canai was ok. It was not the best I have tasted. I couldn't really taste the curry. It was a little on the sweet side with a spicy kick. And the potatoes should be more cooked to bring out the starch. This would make the soup a little thick. They used white chicken meat. It would have been better if they used the chicken thighs. It would have made it more tasty! Their pancake is more like a pancake. It was a little small. I am more familiar with the Indian style pancake, big, thin, and crispy on the outside. And stretchy when you pulled it apart to take a piece. We ordered two BBQ beef and beef pad khing. The BBQ beef was very good. They came out with it on a hot cast iron square plate! They poured the BBQ sauce, and the sauce was sizzling! The portion was small for the price! I would have loved a little pepper flakes to give it a kick. But I am not the chef. We ordered roti canai, chicken pad Thai, spicy duck and chicken red curry. Everything was delicious. The pad Thai is perfectly textured, a smidge on the sweet side, but nicely smoky-sautéed. The curry was a bit thin but nonetheless tasty. Although the spice level of the duck didn't do it for me (I requested 5 but it was more like a 2 despite my stipulation of "Asian spicy not American spicy"), again it was a well-prepared dish. The pièce de résistance was the fried ice cream, which is served flambé style! I only wish they gave you larger bowls of rice to go with the generously portioned entrees. My husband and I tried Thai Kitchen for the first time specifically in search of good Pad Thai in the area and were super impressed by our experience here! The food was delicious. We got an appetizer of the 4 spring rolls and shrimp dumplings and for our appetizers I got a chicken Pad Thai spice level 2, and he got the beef Pad Thai spice level 5. Both were delicious! Good portions too! The service was wonderful as well, all the staff were all super friendly. It's also beautiful inside, making it a nice date spot and it was super clean- even the bathrooms were spotless. I forgot to take a picture of complimentary salad they give, I'm not sure if they do this during dinner time but for lunch they bring you a salad with a peanut dressing - it was delish! Pad kee mao had a good spice to it honey puffs were okay, they didn't have the most flavor but it was interesting - it had crabmeat (I believe it was imitation crab) avocado, and veggies. Thai Kitchen- Chester, NJ: We had lunch over Labor Day weekend and it was excellent. We've been looking for a great Thai restaurant in our area and this is it. We had panang curry and it was so good. The sauce was a little thin and pretty spicy for mild but still very good. We had Thai iced tea and it was a bit too sweet but still very good. We had a salad with peanut sauce and that was also tasty. They gave us soup and it was made with chicken stock so I didn't taste it but my friend said it was good. We ordered fried vegetable rolls and they were Ok but I'd probably not order those again. The restaurant staff were very attentive and decor was tastefully done. Visited 09/19/2023 'Funny' how visiting Chester, NJ seems to bring us to Thai Kitchen if/when we're hungry. This is maybe the 3rd time and it's always been excellent. I started with the Jurb Woon Sen soup. (Glass noodles with chicken, mushroom, napa, baby corns, onions, and scallions) Very good. I then opted for the Rendeng... (curried lamb on rice) YUM! Last night, my wife and I were in Chester and had the opportunity to dine at Thai Kitchen. I had this restaurant bookmarked for quite a while, so I was happy we had the chance to go. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of the Chester Hills shopping center. One thing that stands out immediately is the decor is first rate. It looks very elegant with beautiful tapestries. Another strength is the service. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I especially liked that they offered a complimentary refill on my Thai iced tea. We both thought the food was good. We started with spring rolls which were nice and crispy with a delicious sauce. For entrees, I chose the Duck Noodle. It was good, but a little skimpy on the duck. My wife ordered Gai Todd, the marinated chicken. My biggest issue was that the restaurant was freezing. It was a chilly night and there were few people dining in, but they need to bump up that thermostat. read more

Way back when, Thai cuisine...at least in my parochial universe...was considered an exotic and esoteric affectation. For example, on one "1st date" of mine, I took a young lady to a new Thai restaurant nearby on the assumption that it might make me appear to be more of "a man of the world" than I might otherwise have come across as (although, considering how that "romance" ultimately wound up, I might as well have taken her to a McDonald's...my trips down Memory Lane have a lot of potholes in them, for sure...but...once again, I digress..). One thing those early ventures into experimental gastronomy left me with was an abiding appreciation for coconut-based soups and mango with sticky rice. I'm still far from being a connoisseur when it comes to Thai cuisine. As with Mexican cuisine, I don't always know what I'm ordering. With an increasingly fragile digestion, I shy away from the dishes highlighted in red. And a bad Thai dish can turn me off to the cuisine for months if not for a year or more (I not too long ago had Pad Thai from a take-out place in Hudson County; the congealed tamarind paste and lukewarm, gummy noodles nearly caused me to lose my cookies...or my Pad Thai, in this particular case-- I didn't embarrass myself, but it was a close call). An old friend is much more of a connoisseur than I am of Thai food, and when we got together recently to hang out, he recommended this place for dinner. The memory of those cold, gummy noodles had receded sufficiently enough in my mind that I was willing. Thai Kitchen is located in a relatively new shopping center off of Rt. 206 South, where the old outdoor flea market used to be (sad to say, but I'm old enough to remember buying old horror comics and bootleg Sex Pistols and NY Dolls records at that flea market!). We seemed to be the first customers of the evening and were seated at a corner table. My friend obviously had been here more than a few times as indicated by his friendliness with the people running it. Immediately, I liked the interior. Somewhat dark, but with enough strategically located orange-tinted lighting to keep it from resembling a cave. We were offered chopsticks, but we opted for forks and spoons. (My friend's son has said eating with chopsticks for him is like eating his food with a thimble, and I have to agree.) I wasn't paying a ton of attention to what my friend ordered, although an appetizer of some sort of dumplings had him shedding tears and gasping for air. I ordered the Tom Kra Gai soup (which does have a bite to it but doesn't leave me teary-eyed and gasping for air like a beached fish) and another dish. The lady serving us smiled and discouraged me from ordering that dish in the most pleasant way possible. Not too long ago, I ate at a Chinese restaurant and the waiter discouraged me from ordering a particular dessert, saying, "Not for you." Back then, I was kind of offended. Now? I was appreciative that this nice lady was showing her motherly concern (although she's a lot younger than I am) that I get the best dining experience possible. Is that fair to the guy in the Chinese restaurant? Probably not. But this time I was appreciative, not offended. Instead, I ordered Mussamun Curry (chicken, peanuts, potatoes) with my soup, and enjoyed it immensely. I told our server that I liked sticky rice, and she brought me 1 dish of regular sticky rice, and another of coconut sticky rice. Very nice. My friend ordered sticky rice for dessert (without the mango) but at that point I was all sticky-rice'd out. My friend always wants to pay separately, so I paid mine with cash. He, unfortunately, had forgotten his wallet, and I didn't have enough to cover him (my friend, a recovered alcoholic/drug-addict, has made a heroic recovery from his years of heavy substance abuse, but it has left him with short-term memory problems; in the past, when he forgot what was important to you but not to him, I chalked it up to a rampaging narcissism bordering on sociopathy, exacerbated by the drugs/alcohol-- these days, it seems to be caused by an organic damage that all those substances inflicted). I was getting ready to hitchhike home while he washed dishes to pay off his bill, but the server and the owner smiled, waved it off, and told him he could pay when he had the money. I'm not suggesting that customers should go there expecting the same kind of treatment, but to me that speaks volumes about the inherent decency of the people running this place (they may know my friend, but they don't know him that well). Coupled with the excellent Thai cuisine being served, this is definitely a place that one should seek out when in the Chester area. Or anywhere in the Central/North NJ area. The decor is very nice, more like an upscale restaurant. The food was more expensive than what I usually get say in Thai Nam Phet or Four seasons in central jersey. I am giving the food 2 stars, I am not sure if the timing was wrong. We got spring roll and Roti. I was expecting it to taste more fresh but it tasted like the spring roll you get at a Chinese take out. The Roti sauce was super salty and the dough was soggy and not even crunchy. For our meal we got pad thai which was okay. Then the Gai Todd, which is thai fried chicken. It was cold and chewy like it has been sitting in the counter top for 2 days. Thankfully the desserts were good, we got sticky rice and mango mouse. Both were good, and I enjoyed the mango mouse. Would I go back again? We walked in on a Friday night without a reservation and low expectations, because I find it hard to find amazing Thai food in Jersey. (Sorry to say, but NYC wins there!) We were very pleasantly surprised as we enjoyed our appetizers and entrees. Definitely the best I've had in Jersey recently. We liked everything we ordered, including the mango & sticky rice dessert. The place is very nicely decorated and is very busy with both diners and takeout orders. Service was great and fast. BYOB! Not sure if reservations are recommended or not or if we just got lucky to get a table right away.. but I'd try to make a reservation, just to be safe.
