I had a chance to try Thai Orchid, didnt know we had such a cute Thai place so close to us! This is a small restaurant but it's very cute. Not too many seats, but ample parking behind the restaurant. I ended up placing a takeout order which came out steaming hot when I went for pickup. Service was great! For food we tried: * Pineapple fried rice with chicken - this was the only ok dish we ordered as I feel the rice lacked some flavor. It was good but also wish there was a little more cashews and pineapple in the dish * Penang Curry with Chicken - this dish was amazing and the sauce was creamy and flavorful. I loved every bite of this dish and would totally order this again! * Crispy Catfish - if you like a dish on the sweeter side, this one was amazing. The catfish was plentiful and went soooo well with the sauce. We loved this dish and would order this again as well! Overall, great experience and would come back again. We ordered the pad see ew, Spicy Catfish, and Yellow Curry. Everything was really good, but the surprising star was the Spicy Catfish! We ordered mild so it wasn't too spicy, and they gave us some other sauce on the side in case we wanted to add some heat. The flavor was fantastic and the cook perfect. Would absolutely order all 3 of these dishes again. We came here for an early dinner on a Friday night and were seated immediately. I'm so sorry. I swear I won't do it again. I went to another Thai restaurant. They had a lot of reviews and I thought, "ah why not. Let's try another spot." After getting home and taking a few bites of ... the other restaurant's food... I knew right away I never should've strayed away. Their meat was dry, their soups flavorless, their noodle dishes, plain. It made me miss the rich and bold flavors you put into every dish. Tried Thai Orchid for the first time and I can't believe I haven't discovered it sooner. I had the Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai, and basil fried rice, and every dish was packed with flavor and really satisfying. On top of the good food, the staff were genuinely sweet and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Honestly....not my favorite. I do love the inside of the restaurant and the service staff was super nice but just pretty mid. The green curry was good but too thin for me and not a very large serving for the price. The pad see ew was good because how can you go wrong w it, but I don't know also just slightly less saucy than I like! This restaurant is one of my top 3 favorite Thai restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Everything I've tried is delicious. My favorite new thing I tried this time is the spicy catfish. The chili sauce from this dish is to die for- and a crowd favorite from my foodie siblings. Other honorable mentions are the golden duck curry that I forgot to picture. There was a bit of a wait because we weren't the only ones craving Thai cuisine on a Friday night, but that is to be expected. Once we were seated, we got ice cold water and menus. The restaurant is small (cozy), there was a small heater circulating warm air and dim lighting. All in all, welcoming with good songs playing in the background. Since it's still close to the holidays there was even a tree and some lights up. We ordered veggie fried rice, pineapple curry, yellow curry, and pad see ew. Since we were with someone that couldn't handle spice we only went medium spicy for one dish. I found the medium to be mild but our waiter brought some hot sauce to add a bit of heat and flavor. Nice little place with friendly staff. Wait time to be seated while it's empty is a bit strange. May be they are short staffed. Watch out for spice level. They don't mention that while taking order neither is mentioned on the menu. Even mild / medium can get pretty spicy. Very spicy actually. It's ruined my tummy now and already doing omeprezol after an of eating the food and trying everything to not get acid reflux. I am not against or surprised about spicy food in Thai place. Such a cute little spot in a great area! Amongst a busy area, this place managed to settle in a quiet little spot off of Campbell/Bascom, right across from the Pruneyard. Just opening when we got there so there was plenty of seating as we were the only ones for dine-in. Very Home-y inside and comfortable. We ordered Vegan pad see ew 10/10 honestly one of the best pad see ew's we've ever had! Great portion size for price and thickness of noodles was perfect!!! Would order again! My son and I went in the evening. I had Pad Thai with shrimp, and he had an eggplant dish with a side of brown rice. Both of us enjoyed the food very much. This little Thai restaurant has been around for a long time, I've been visiting since the 90s when I first came to the Bay area. It has a great selection of Thai food and the setting is very traditional and comfortable. I had a delicious Seafood Pad See Ew along with a Thai Iced Tea. The food was good, portion sizes were great. I wish the dishes were priced a little lesser even if that meant cutting the portion size a bit. We had the house fried rice with fried tofu, drunken noodles with vegetable and a side of fried egg. My family came in on a weekday around 6. We waited around 5 minutes. We ordered the tom yum soup, pineapple fried rice, and the pad see ew. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The tom yum was very aromatic. The fried rice was nice and wasn't dry at all. The noodles were nice and soft and flavorful too. Service was nice and friendly. The food was good and on par with other Thai restaurants we have tried. Prices are decent and the portions size is acceptable. What we didn't like was that it was very dark( with minimal lighting) when we went on Saturday night. No it didn't feel romantic either! They seriously need to upgrade the inside and put a bit more lighting or provide table lamps. Where we were sitting, the kitchen was right there so it felt very casual. Maybe inside would have been a bit better. While I understand it's a house converted to a restaurant and some people can like that feeling, for me, a bit more upgrade can really work as the food is good. The food here is so fire! My friend recommended this place to get dinner before an event at San Jose Civic, and I'm so glad she did. They were able to accommodate my friend's shellfish allergy and vegetarian diet. I appreciate their effort to ensure she was able to safely eat the food, and removing the fish sauce didn't affect the quality or flavour at all. If anything, the food tasted even better because it didn't rely on one ingredient for its flavour profile. Really more of a 3.5 stars - the service was excellent so decided to round it up to 4 stars rather than 3 stars We were a party of 2 for a middle-of-the-week lunch. We got seated in the back where there was no heating and it was absolutely freezing . We decided to stay w our coats and it was still freezing . We decided to go with a green curry w catfish , and a pad Thai. Both dishes came in at above the average size . The green curry was meh- felt too watery and the catfish pieces were too large . So so - 3 stars. The pad Thai on the other hand was pretty good - a generous portion (daughter took about half of it home ) and tasty. This is our 'local' Thai restaurant. Before pandemic we would eat at the restaurant. Now it's almost always takeout. But it's still with the same regularity. Vegetarian's POV- Ambience: It's an old little place: a little too "rustic" and dated for me. I would've have minded if the food was outstanding but it was below average. Service: It's okay. The main guy is sweet with a pleasant smile but the guy who gave the food was ok. Food: we ordered (1) Pad Ke Maw (Vegetarian) with fried tofu and veggies: fried tofu looked old and didn't taste fresh, the entire dish was black in color. Veggies was over cooked- not crunchy and crisp. (2) Panang Curry (Vegetarian) with soft tofu and veggies: had a weird chalky taste but it was much better in comparison to noodle dish above. Comes with complementary jasmine rice. There are many awesome Thai places so we will be skipping this one. read more

It was my first time trying Thai Orchid and we got food delivered from here. I was super excited to try Thai food from a new place and especially here since it had some really good reviews. Our order was simple - basil fried rice and ginger chicken with veggies. The service was super quick with food being ready pretty fast and quanta was really good too. The ginger chicken was delicious and had fresh ingredients that one could tell from the flavors. The fried rice though was not to our liking. Unfortunately it was super greasy and it was swimming in oil (not quite but you get the point). I usually really like good quality Thai fried rice but was very disappointed with this one :( Given that we liked the chicken dish, I am happy to try this place again and perhaps try another rice based dish in person another time and also that way I can check out the ambience as well. read more

Delicious Thai food in a cozy restaurant. We came here over the holidays and it was nicely decorated inside. It's not a big place but worth the wait if you are not seated right away. We ordered a Penang curry and pad kee mao. The food came within 10-15 minutes which was pretty quick! I got the pad kee mao medium spicy which was perfect for me. It had a kick but was not overbearing (I'm saying this as someone who eats spicy food). Hubby got it spicy and I tried it and I didn't feel it overwhelmingly spicy either which was nice. The waiters were very friendly and personable. They were very attentive to our and others tables. The music was nice inside and not too dull which gave the restaurant a lively but at the same time relaxing feel to it. It's not one of those uptight serious places. I have driven by this spot many many times and finally stopped off for lunch last week. It's a unique standalone building with a fair amount of parking in the back. The entrance was a little confusing, there were 2 doors open in the back but they directed us to the side door. It was a super hot day (well over a hundred) and my heart sank when I saw the sign that they don't have AC. I decided to go for it since I had limited time. It was challenging to sit there while it was simmering but the food and service were excellent and made up for it. Our waiter was super friendly and pleasant.
