Highly recommended! My son and I have eaten at Big Fish four or five times in this year alone. They clearly get a lot of delivery and take-out orders, so there has always been plenty of seating available - no wait, and that includes dinner dining times from 6:30 to 8:00. The owners usually serve us, and they are always very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very clean and fresh in appearance with appropriate artwork. The food is delicious. Today we learned that three talented chefs have joined them from the previous establishment. It shows. The food is great. Well balanced-- nothing was overcooked or undercooked, and the seasoning was appropriate for each dish. We have tried a variety of dishes and recently have settled on ordering the Dinner for 2-3 people in our last two visits. If we don't want Mongolian Beef or Orange Chicken, we just substitute something else. Generous portion sizes and we bring food home for my son's lunch the next day! We decided to give this place a try after I received a Facebook offer for a free appetizer. First little surprise: apparently the offer is dine-in only, which the coupon neglected to mention. We ordered takeout, so no free appetizer for us. Okay, fine. I love Chinese food, this place is close to our house, and I was still excited to try it. Unfortunately, the appetizer may have been the lucky one because it escaped this meal. We ordered the beef with black pepper and honey sauce. It smelled good, so even though it wasn't exactly winning any beauty contests, I had hope. That hope lasted until the first bite. The sauce was incredibly bland, and the chunks of beef were chewy, spongy, and just... weird. I'm still not entirely sure what texture they were going for, but "beef" was not the texture that came to mind. Then there was the barbecue pork fried rice. Calling this "fried rice" is being extremely generous. It was basically dry steamed rice with peas, carrots, and tiny hard pieces of barbecue pork sprinkled throughout. I even tried adding soy sauce to save it. The soy sauce did its best. It fought bravely. It lost. I really wanted to like this place because it's so close to home and I'm always happy to find a good Chinese restaurant nearby. Sadly, this one was a miss from beginning to end. We will not be back. Needed a party tray of chow mein and this place delivered. I got there early so the food wasn't ready yet but the service was fantastic. The owner offered me a seat and an iced water just for the wait. He even gave me a Togo menu for future visits as I just found the menu online. I'm sure if I dined in, the service would've been amazing if this is how I was served just for picking up food. In terms of the chow mein itself, it was plentiful and piping hot. The small party tray said 5-6 people but it was probably closer to 10-12 people. Maybe if it was the only entree then yes but if there's other dishes, then it's a lot of food. In terms of taste, it was a little bland but the noodle itself had good substance. Like a good Chinese American chow mein with a thicker noodle and not like a low mein noodle. Inside was really clean and very spacious. There wasn't anyone in there when I visited but that's because it was like 4:00 pm when they reopen. If I'm in the area, I'd definitely want to try other dishes. I did inquire about a party tray of egg rolls or crab puffs since there wasn't a set amount on the menu and the owner said it's like 5-6 servings. They just fill it until it's full which sounds like a good deal. They also have nice dine in deals that I would want to try. Overall, go check them out! Dry Fried Beef Chow Fun: Stir-fried flat rice noodles with tender beef strips, bean sprouts, and green onions in a savory soy-based sauce. Family Style Tofu: Pan-fried tofu with broccoli, carrots, zucchini, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms in a light sauce. Eggplant with Salted Fish & Chicken Clay Pot: Eggplant, salted fish, and chicken cooked together in a clay pot, typically seasoned with ginger and soy sauce. This was my favorite of all the dishes. Also, we ordered the Organic Tofu sauteed with Vegetables, Stir Fried Bok Choy, Hot & Sour Soup (perfect amount of sour), and Peking Spare Ribs. All the food was decent but nothing stood out. Popped into the restaurant for last minute takeout. Ordered two standard items. A a noodle dish and a fried appetizer. The noodles was delicious. It tasted freshly made and had plenty of flavor. I would give that a five out of five. The fried dish, however, was a little off. The batter had an extremely hard coating that lacked any flavor. I ended up just adding salt and pepper when I got home. I suspect the oil temperature was not hot enough and so it cooked much longer than necessary in order for it to Brown. Served was friendly and fast and food was freshly cut poked. Prices were on the high side but not unreasonable. Portions were average. I will give it a four star rating and will likely try it again, but not order their deep-fried foods. read more

Found this place and decided to give it a try. I like that you can order ahead online so you can do a takeout order and not have to wait. We got the eggrolls, veggie chow mein, orange chicken, mongolian beer and veggies. The ETA for pickup was very accurate as by the time that I got there, the food was ready to go. The inside looked like a super traditional chinese restaurant complete with the round tables and lazy susans and an fish tank in the front. The owner? was super friendly with the pickup and lifting up the bags, it was pretty hefty and piping hot. All the food was very good along with a good portion. Mapo tofu is delicious. Slightly sweet not sour like some places. Beef noodle soup also very flavorful with lots of vegetables. Noodles are fresh and springy not soggy. Looking forward to trying the seafood noodle soup and Jiajiang noodles. read more

So this use to be Taste of China for the longest time and so I was very unmotivated to try this new place but tonight I was pleasantly surprised. The owner is such a nice person and so very accommodating. We are all vegetarian and my dad has very specific diet needs and the kitchen was so nice to accommodate us. We ordered various dishes without meat, sub tofu, no garlic and everything still turned out very delicious. It's nice and spacious inside and well lit. They have wonderful lunch specials and also some Chinese items that you're not able to find in south San Jose. Service is a little slow but I think we all know that all restaurants are dealing with staff shortages. So let's all be patient, enjoy each other's company and conversation. This place is expensive. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and my fiance and I decided to come for dinner as it was too hot to cook. We ordered Hot and Sour Soup (2/5; too cornstarchy), Pork Fried Rice (3/5; nothing special and you can tell they used frozen peas and carrots), Beef Chow Mein (1/5, would NOT recommend as it was extremely bland), and Kung Pao Chicken (2/5, too saucy and the flavor was not on point). I will not be retuning as the food was extremely bland. I was shocked when I got the bill - $85 for 2 people. This place is not good bang for your buck or palette. You're honestly better off going to Panda Express for a fraction of the price. Tables need to cleaned better as the pepper and chilli sambal from the condiments tray was extremely sticky. Gross. I can't believe I haven't discovered Big Fish Restaurant until now--what a shame! This is the most authentic and delicious Chinese food I've ever had. Every dish we ordered was amazing, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. The Spicy Boiled Fish w/ Vegetables was so fragrant, and the Pan-fried Buns were huge and delicious (the biggest I've ever seen!). The Braised Tofu also had such a rich, lingering flavor. With the transition to Big Fish Cafe, things have shifted... new name, new model, new energy. The space still offers seating, the atmosphere and food execution now feel geared toward fast-paced, quick-turnaround dining. What we ordered: * White rice * Sesame chicken * Honey walnut prawns * Chinese chicken salad (the biggest issue: mostly lettuce, very little chicken, no real substance or ingredients. Across the board, the food was good! but it lacked balance, finesse, and attention to detail in some areas. Sauces were bit heavy on the amount, but had the right flavors. The absence of basics like soy sauce or fortune cookies (even for takeout) added to a sense that maybe these things aren't ever included.. We picked up on a Sunday evening around 6:00 Pm to a relatively empty restaurant - (6-patrons sitting down eating) This may technically be a new restaurant, but it occupies a space with expectations and right now, it's close to falling short of the standard you would hope to expect for take out in 2025. The food feels a little rushed, the effort although not minimal, and although the value may be there in quantity, it just isn't there in quality all the way yet. $70 for the items. Lemon chicken... the chicken is so dry it is inedible. The breading pulled away from the chicken, some was really crispy and some was soggy and just gross. Salt and Pepper fish, tasted like dirt.
