Everything tasted just okay, very mediocre overall. The Pad See Ew had a weird bitter aftertaste that made it hard to enjoy. Delicious Thai food with a comfortable and dog friendly outdoor patio! We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was no line. We ordered the roti, crispy pork belly, sausage, Laos style papaya salad, and a khao soi to share between 3 people. The pork belly and sausage were both ~ $23 and didn't come with as many pieces as we thought it would. This was some of the crispiest roti I've ever had! I loved the curry dipping sauce on the side and the nice crunch of the cucumbers. The pork belly was slightly overcooked, a little hard but the flavors were great! The sausage tasted house made, it had a great tang to it and I loved the variety of dipping sauce. We ordered extra spicy/hot for the Laos papaya salad but it was definitely medium. First time at Khoisan Thai with a party of 3 and was pretty disappointed. The service started off bad, waiting for water for about 10 minutes and having to ask for it. Orders were taken pretty quickly but the food came out slowly. Friend got his dish first and we had to wait for our mama noodles. So after my bad experience my husband forced me to give it a try & he himself didn't like the food.I went again to this place we ordered the green curry same thing it didn't taste like anything lacking flavor, I told the lady make it spicy and put some eggplant she gave the same thing back minus eggplant and rudely said this is it. My friend and I wanted to grab something with lots of veggies after walking for the afternoon. We decided to try a new place and picked Khaosan Thai after looking through Yelp. The menu had a variety of items/dishes that looked promising, but we stuck with what we're familiar with since that's what we were craving. We ordered the papaya salad which came with sticky rice, the tom yum noodle soup (spicy) for me and pad thai for my friend. The restaurant was relatively empty - only one other group - when we got there around 6 on a weeknight. However, it filled up while we were eating and there were also lots of to-go orders being picked up. The inside had cute decor and it was a good ambiance to have dinner as the music was light and relaxing. We both enjoyed the papaya salad - light, refreshing and with a decent amount of kick at medium spicy. I really liked my tom yum noodle soup - the broth was sour and hot (temperature wise), but I would have liked a bit more spice. I've never had an egg in my tom yum before, so that was new. I enjoyed the crispy wonton and ground chicken. The rice noodles were broken up for some reason and not quite cooked enough for my taste. My friend's pad thai took quite a long time to come out - I was almost done eating by the time it was brought out - and she had filled herself up on the papaya salad. She did enjoy the pad thai and I also think it had good flavors as well. Overall, a good solid new Thai place to enjoy. I am definitely going to add it to my list of regulars! read more

I have had many dishes but my personal fave has to e the homemade khao soi noodle dish! Also another classic dish I enjoy are the specialty meat dishes that are huge in portion size and comes with sticky rice and sauces. All meat opt are great as I have had a handful of different meats. Not to mention the drinks are superb!! the best one if the coconut water. Pure bliss and so tasty with refreshing aroma and ingredients! revives the soul!!! Seems really dark in the front, but service was very welcoming. Been here twice now, both times I just walked in and ordered, each time the service was prompt and courteous. I've ordered: Pad Thai $17.95 - had the chicken. I was nervous at first because the noodles clumped together in a mound - BUT that first bite had such good flavor. It was great, I'd recommend this place based on their pad Thai. Pad see ew $20.95 (beef) - the beef costs $3 more and pad see ew is my favorite dish. The did a good job of making it here. I've had other bland pad see ew. Pineapple fried rice $17.95 - ordered it with chicken, it's a classic. I did not mind the taste, but I think it could be more flavorful. Khao soi $20.95 - I don't get it. You get crispy and boiled noodles in soup. This dish seems popular at other Thai places too, and it's good, but I felt the other varieties of soup and noodle dishes they had were better. It's fine as a side dish or snack. Crispy roti $11.95 - I could get this all day every day. I forget how many pieces you get. It's plenty and so crispy! It also comes with a curry dipping sauce and cucumbers in a pickled liquid. I love the cucumbers. However, the roti was extra oily the 2nd time I ordered it. Chicken satay $15.95 - you get 4 skewers, dipping sauce, cucumbers in a pickled liquid, and 4pcs of toast that would make a full single slice. This dish was not worth it. Dipping sauce was good, cucumbers were good - but the amount of chicken per skewer was small, one was very skinny and dry. Solid choice, though! I've eaten here 7 times now and mostly enjoy it! Came back on Friday night and it took a while to get the servers attention for ordering. Overall they were good but food wasn't the best today. Khao Soi 5/10: Crispy noodles were not crispy, cilantro was blackened and rotting (see pic), and this is the first Thai restaurant I've seen come with whole chicken drumsticks instead of chopped meat or braised thighs. The execution just felt sloppy and lazy overall. I picked out the rotting parts of cilantro I could see but had a stomachache after eating the rest that was immersed in the soup- perhaps my fault for not just sending it back but I did mention the cilantro. Som Tum (Papaya) Salad 4/10: These salads are pre-marinated so you can't change the spice level- but it was overly spicy for "medium spice"- way too many Thai chili's and it just wasn't a good experience, i trying to help my mom finish the dish. Green curry 7/10: It was okay, but too sweet. The jasmine rice was the star of the show actually, it was cooked perfectly!! I feel bad leaving this review when I've had so many solid meals here, so I'm averaging it out at 3 stars. The service is usually better and the pad see ew and yellow curry are awesome!! My current FAVORITE Thai spot in San Jose. Yes- it tops Original Krung Thai. I've been to Khaosan maybe 3-4 times now, and they've won me over with their bold flavors, quality, and consistently great service. Tip: Come with a group of 4+ so you can try a bunch of dishes family-style. After our 4th time here, I'd say it's the best way to experience the menu, especially given their generous portions. If you're dining with a group, make a reservation (weekends esp). If it's just two people, you can usually walk in without too much of a wait. We've also done takeout before, but honestly- the food is so much better when eaten fresh at the restaurant, and it's just not quite the same at home. The ambiance is clean and cute but the restaurant is definitely on the smaller side and it got really loud in there on a Friday evening. The service was great from beginning to end. When I mentioned to the server that it was our first time there, she was very happy to help answer any questions we had about the menu. We ordered the egg rolls as an appetizer and they came out piping hot and were very tasty. For our mains, we all shared the tom yum fried rice with shrimp, the eggplant with beef, a side of jasmine rice, the yellow curry with chicken and a noodle dish. Everything was delish! The entire meal, it seems like the staff was trying to rush us eating. They kept interrupting to ask if they could take plates while I was still eating from said plate. At 7:40, we tried to order dessert, but they replied "oh there's fried banana but someone already reserved your table". I was shocked they didn't even let us order dessert so we left. I wish they told us earlier that we could only eat for an hour. We ended up paying and getting dessert next door. This is the best Bay Area Thai restaurant that I've found! I'm obsessed. I love their tom kha soup, I've gotten it twice - once with shrimp and once with tofu. I love the flavor and the spice and the onions/mushrooms. The second time when I got it with tofu, for some reason some pieces of chicken were in it. Also, that second time the produce sticker was still on my tomato....didn't appreciate that. I've also gotten their pad Thai twice, once with shrimp and once with chicken, and I love getting hot for spice. My only issue is that the first time I got it hot, it was SUPER spicy which I LOVED and then the second time even though I ordered hot it was mild at best. Still good but that was disappointing. I find that spice can be inconsistent at a lot of restaurants. Also loved their Thai tea! It wasn't too sweet. Excited to try lots of their other dishes. Restaurant is relatively small with around 10 tables or so. They have QR codes at the table to order but we noticed that the prices on the website are higher than the physical menu prices!
