At first I was very skeptical about going to the place since is not located at the greatest side of town either. But decided to give it a try since my friend said it was very good and really quiet. Went parked there , noticed a tired shop . And got inside the place and looked really calm, clean and the tables where very organized . A server smiled and asked if it was only me , but I said I would have someone else showing up soon . He said I could seat anywhere I wanted and he was soon to ask if I needed a drink . I ended up choosing the green tea , and got to eat some of their special with fried rice and chicken and it came with a spring eggroll a wonton that had potatoes. And also a small salad. I called in my orders since yesterday since it is a rather large order. Promised time was 12:00 pm. I walked in at 12:03 pm. I told I am here to pick up an order, their staff acknowledged me by saying that they will be with me in a minute. 10 minutes went by and no one attended to me. Real deal Thai food in a non-descript shopping center. Beautifully decorated inside with pretty murals, etc. Very nice people working there as well. I had the pad see ew (sp.?) with shrimp, big fresh shrimp, the noodles were maybe handmade? Not sure - but tasted like it, fresh veg and great flavorful sauce. Had the crab Rangoon, best we've had to be honest. My son had the wings with sweet chili sauce on the side. He loved them. Next time I'm going to dive into even more real deal Thai dishes there. Amazing service!! Very kind, attentive. We asked for spicy and actually got spicy. I ordered the chili tofu which comes with steamed white rice. It was full of flavor, the vegetables were cooked nicely, and there was a small amount of a broth on the bottom which complimented the rice well. Hard to find veg friendly options in this area, but there were plenty of tofu and vegetable based dishes that didn't need to be modified too much for us to be able to eat them. When the old owner was still there, they use to serve unlimited Thai tea. To bad they don't have that anymore. Well it's a very nice open place when you walk in. However, the location is really really bad. We ordered our food and when it finally came out after waiting 35-40 mins, it didn't taste the same as it use to. Also the service was very very bad. They didn't have plates and utensils out even when the food came out. And they forgot to serve us a dish we ordered. The food isn't that great and the service was awful. The outside from the street doesn't look like much, but the inside of the place is really nice. The main reason I go here is for the authentic Laos and Thai food. They make dishes here that I cannot find anywhere else-for example "Lop" with beef. The server was friendly and fun to talk to. The lady who was taking our order was very rude and the the papaya I ordered was old and nasty. The soup that came with the lunch special was not good they put the flavor that is used from a pack of noodles into it very bad.The lady also would not give us a refill on our water and was very very rude. I asked if I could get some beef on the side & it took forever that I finished my meal by then & it still wasn't ready. I work around the corner & lunch took us an 1hour45 to 2 hours. Half the time was us waiting for our food...only to realize they never put in our order because they lost our order slip. There was literally only 3 tables there including us...there was only one person taking orders, waiting tables, cash register, pretty much all the jobs besides being in the kitchen. What a joke! I start work at 5am my lunch is typically around 10-1030 but I was craving pad Thai. I ordered lunch through yelp about 6:30 am because I was going to be having a later lunch. The place doesn't open until 11, which is fine, and of course I get an email saying that because they don't open till 11 it may take 30-45 mins to have my food ready, still no problem, so I leave work about 11:45, get to the restaurant about 12. I walk in and tell them I placed an order Togo online, a lady motions me to a counter, I stand at the counter for another 10 minutes, in that time another lady with an online order as well is waiting behind me, no one comes out to take payment, or to even acknowledge that we're even standing there. By this time, I've now wasted most of my lunch and still don't have food, that should've been ready by 11, or even 1145 at the latest. Yes, this restaurant is located in a somewhat sketchy part of town and right next to a mechanics shop. And yes, it smells like car fluid in the restaurant, but once you're in their for 5 minutes, you don't even notice the smell. The food was beyond delicious! I ate the Tofu Fresh Veggie Rolls and the shrimp Pad Thai. They give you a whopping 8 rolls which filled me up before even eating the pad Thai! I also ordered the Thai Iced Tea which was served in a very tall glass. Delicious! Also, recommend the mango sticky rice for dessert. Perfect combination of a sweet treat! I can't wait to return to Thai Orchid! The food was hands down amazing!! read more
