So, the food here is really good BUT the service is really really slow. Every time we come here to eat, which is rare, it takes forever for the waiter to bring out water, take our order, and bring out the food. Even though the food is really tasty and delicious, slow service is such a turn off. The waiter themselves are really nice but they aren't as lively when super busy and they are lacking in waiters/chefs. Overall if you're looking for good Thai food and is willing to wait for it, this place is the place to try. Honestly, I don't come here unless there's some kind of event going on. We ordered vegetable spring rolls, duck green curry, Tom kha, tofu vegetable mixed stir fry and papaya salad... It's pretty awful. Customer service: 0. Food: 0.5. So you pick your poison. Asked for one vegan dish, came out with chicken. Rice overlooked with water. Lady that served was really ignorant.. There were only 4 people in the whole place at 8 in a Saturday. So we've been there quite a few times. Most times we go, I eat a few pieces of tofu that taste sour, like they are turning. The other problem is that the last time we went back, our waitress told us that the curries that we were told were vegan every other time, actually are not. This was really disappointing. This restaurant really brought in the heat. I honestly thought I could handle any level of spice until I bumped into Thai Orchid on a random Sunday night rendezvous. To be honest, the best food items on the menu are of Laotian and Cambodian influence. The Thai food is not bad but the said cultural influence really takes the cake for the heat. The Som Tum [papaya salad] here is the total winner; super crisp, sour and spicy. I honestly could not handle the heat of this dish. But after a short while I was able to catch my breath and consume most of it. The flavors are super complex and wakes you up silly. Pairing this item with their sweetened cold Thai coffee was the saving grace in regards to catching my breath. I love soup, and their Tom Yum (Thai hot & sour soup) had plenty of depth and zest to it. The soup was brimming with fresh tomatoes, shrimp and mushrooms & topped with cilantro. You can ask for this soup to be vegetarian as well. I really enjoyed their Laad Nah. It is one of my favorite takes on Thai style noodles; brimming with dark gravy, broccoli & onions. Asked for chicken with this dish and it accompanied the gravy and veggies quite well. This particular dish is not spicy & is more on the savory and sweet side; which made it pair well with the other items. The menu at Thai Orchid is quite large and extensive. I would love to try other items off of their menu next time. A bit far off from my usual travels though. If you're in the Northern parts of Houston, & passing through Spring, I recommend visiting this spot. I just found out about this place tonight after going there for diner with my hushband's parents. OMG everything was so good we ordered the Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai, fried fish , Beef larb and papaya salad. It didnt take long for the food to come out because we came in 1 hour before they close. The server was also very nice and helpful. Overall, i love this place and we will definitely come back. I just supprised that there were not a lot of people there. read more

I really do love the Thai cuisine from here however I've always had an issue with their poor service. It's just gotten more ridiculous with every visit. Today's lunch hour has turned into waiting over 45 minutes for food and the restaurant wasn't packed at all. So definitely make sure you pack patience and your boss allows for an extended lunch. I ordered the Pad Sawee (stir fry thick flat rice noodles with Chinese broccoli) and it was delicious!! Like I said the food has never disappointed me, it's just the slow service. I really wanted to love this restaurant since it's so close to me but I was disappointed. I ordered from yelp and when I came they had still not started the order so I had to order and I had to wait, which I didn't want to do. Once I payed my total on Yelp said $13.90 but they charged me $16. I asked them why and she said the prices on Yelp haven't changed. I ordered the fried tofu, super plain. This little hidden jewel is soooo good. The service is great, our waiter recommended one his favorite dishes the papaya salad w/pork rinds (don't forget the pork rinds). If you like it HOT, this dish is for you! We also ordered the Hawaiian rice (to die for), stir fried tofu (heaven--literally some of the best tofu I've ever tried), and the whole fried tilapia (O M G--there are no words to describe how AMAZING this is...not only does it taste good, it looks like it should be on the cover of a foodie magazine). I order through door dash and it was the worst experience I ever had from an asian restaurant. I ordered the barbecue that stated it would come with steamed rice in the description. And it did not I called the store to tell them. The owner argued me down about the rice wasn't included. Despite the fact that I was reading to him. He told me he didn't have a way to see the doordash description his self. It was my first ordering from so I didn't know what to expect from the barbecue I was disappointed about the whole thing. In town for the weekend from Cali and decided to stop here on the way back from the airport. We Ordered papaya salad, lad na tofu, chicken wings, boat noodle, shrimp fried rice, crab puffs and sticky rice. Everything was authentic and fresh, great flavor for each dish. I'd like to give the place 5 stars but unfortunately due to bad customer service I can't do that. The food was delicious, everything we had tasted great but the waitress seemed a bit irritated and not friendly when we would ask questions about food on the menu, I had to get up and get my own condiments and not one time where we checked on to see if the food was good if we needed anything else or etc. Another set of customers came and and the waitress became friendly and attentive. We caught them on a bad day. All there was to that. Fellow Yelper and I had to wait almost an hour to get our food. We waited 20 minutes to order, 30 minutes for the food to come out. HOWEVER, we talked to the waiter afterwards. Notice how I said THE waiter, not OUR waiter? Because he was the only one scheduled that day (tues) and it was supposed to be their slow day. And he had a 20 top, an 8 top, and a 6 top all roll in at the same time right before we walked in. Oh yeah, he wasn't just the waiter. He was also manning the register, and I'm sure he was helping prepare the food in the back. Oh, right, food. EFFING DELICIOUS, man! Fresh and tasty! Their lunch menu is set up different from other places. Each dish is listed with what veggies it comes with and how it's prepared, and then you have a choice of beef, pork, chicken, or seafood to go into it. that's each entree on the menu. Old restaurant, new management. I've never been to its previous incarnation, so hard for me to compare. Walking in, decor is casual and not very busy. Menu has typical Thai fare, nothing unique or out of the ordinary. Ordered pad kee mao for lunch. First came out some vegetable soup. Wasn't too bad. My pad kee mao came out which was good. Has a little bit of heat in it, but not Thai-hot. Flavors were just right with the Thai basil, onions, and peppers. The noodles were just right. Comes with a salad and a dip which I ignored. Also comes with a spring roll which was decent and some fried vegetable ball which was good. Overall a decent experience for typical Thai food. 3.7 stars. Not dying to go back immediately, but would go back again sometime in the near future. A good option for Thai in the area. read more

Decided to try Thai Orchid last night I like Thai food and figured another restaurant option in addition to the usual places that I patronize wouldn't be a bad idea. Variety is the spice of life after all. I thought it was closer to my house than what it ended up being. Veterans and 1960, instead it was Veterans and the beltway. So, first impression--sketchy little strip mall, humpty rides parked in the right of way in front of a shady looking "sports bar," sliding security doors and bars on the windows of the businesses--not so good. Enter into the restaurant and the décor is dollar store cafeteria. Alternating blue and red plastic table cloths, topped with white roll out paper. Really, I'm not embellishing at all. It was wide open and had the feel of a cafeteria that was decorated by someone that had colorblindness. There was just one older woman working the front of the house, and she was the only employee that was visible during the entire visit. She was cordial enough, but being a one woman show, service was not quite on point. Even after she had been to the table three times, I had to ask for silverware and basic condiments as the food and drinks arrived. The food--appetizer sampler, dumplings, beef Pad Thai, seafood yellow curry and Thai ginger chicken--were all ok. But nothing jumps out as being memorable. So, all-in-all, if you are in the area, and are craving Thai food, have no ambience requirements, aren't afraid of a somewhat questionable external environment, and don't set your expectation level too high, this place will suffice. But, you may be able to find something better not that far away. read more

I've never really had Thai food. I have had curry. I never realized I could get good curry at a Thai place. We went for lunch. I had the yellow curry with pork. The curry was awesome. For the lunch special you also get a fried wonton, an egg roll, a small salad, and rice. When we had questions, our server was really good at answering everything. She was also funny. Just ate here tonight for the first time and seriously the BEST Thai/Cambodian food in town!!!!!!! I honestly didn't expect much going in, but the Chicken Pad Thai was sweet, plentiful & delicious... one of the best Pad Thai dishes I've ever eaten (BUT somehow it was still the dish I went for least)... since all the other dishes were so much more authentic like I was eating a great homemade meal (I'm Cambodian-Chinese btw). We ordered a Cambodian dish (off the authentic Cambodian menu which you have to request) of beef and water spinach soup. Even though I was born in Cambodia, I generally haven't loved Cambodian food. However, this soup was pretty awesome. The beef was fresh and tender and made me feel like I was in Cambodia again (but with better food). The fish patties were great. The egg rolls were very good, hot and fresh with a unique sauce. The fried rice was good too especially if you like fresh basil... but the very best dish imo was the Vietnamese crepe! My mom made this for us as kids and this is one of my very favorite dishes growing up and apologies to my mom... but this was the VERY BEST Vietnamese crepe EVER!!!!! Service was good, but the place was pretty empty. Don't know why. I found out that there are new owners who just came in two to three months ago. They were very nice to us. I definitely will go back and bring lots of people. read more

The BEST "Banh Xeo" in USA!!! (Banh Xeo = thin crepe made of rice flour, eggs & turmeric powder filled with ground pork and shrimps.) They didn't spare on the mints and Asian herbs...love that!! We ordered 5 dishes of both CAMBODIAN (Khmer) & THAI food and enjoyed every bite. Food is authentic and tasted like Mom's delicious home cooked dishes! Good prices for delicious food!!!! Service was wonderful - friendly and very accommodating. I highly recommend this restaurant for the best Thai and best-only Cambodian food in Houston!!!! Be sure to ask for the Cambodian menu. If you are chili-lover, ask them to make your dish "volcanic hot"! Don't forget to check out the Cambodian and Thai desserts. Yummy!!!! The place is clean - I'm impressed for an Asian restaurant!) Ordered Pad Thai with spring rolls with shrimp and chicken. Pad Thai was mushy with hardly any meat in it. Spring rolls had some soy sauce to dip it in (not peanut sauce) with chopped peanuts floating on top. Rolls were hot, which was a first for me on this... Order took almost 45 minutes to be brought out, and it was not busy during the lunch hour. Seemed a bit unorganized. Would I come here again... probably not. Shame, because there are hardly any pad thai restaurants in the area. :( read more

I went here for take out today after finding that it was close to my office. I got the #14 Garlic Pepper with mixed veggies and chicken extra spicy. There was no garlic, pepper, or spice. My first time trying this restaurant and it was a take-out order. I didn't get the full service but from my experience the staffs were friendly and the food was good for what I had was pretty close to authentic Thai food. A great addition to the area. Thai Orchid (formerly known as Thai Xpress) is one of my favorite places to eat! The owners have grown to love me, and they are always so cordial and accommodating. My favorite dishes are: Thai Spicy Basil Fried Rice and Pad Kra Pow. The red and green curry is good too! They also have a nice sized bar and comfy chairs at their regular tables. They often have private parties on Saturday nights after 5pm, but you can always call and place your order. You should definitely give it a try if you love Thai food. Love this place. Great Thai food and also amazing Lao food! Very authentic! I love their Lao Chicken Noodle Soup. The noodles are made in house and super fresh! If you love spicy, add some of the hot chili oil! That'll give you a little kick in your soup. My favorite is the Beef Pad Se Ew! It's so juicy and saucy. Not dry at all like some other Thai places are. Add some sriracha to it & it makes it perfect! The Thai tea and coffe are amazing!
