I'm happy to blow a little more if a place is really great, treats their employees well, etc. That said, six bucks for a kettle full of hot water with a single teabag of mediocre brand intended for a single 8oz cup is a bit silly. I'd pay that if it were enough tea for a full pot, and good quality product. I enjoyed my main, Green Curry, very much. Her order Pad see eew, was good, but the protein was really wonky (pork that had a decidedly off flavor like old cooking oil). We're not the sort of folks to raise a stink, we simply won't order that dish again, and if we have a similar experience, we pay the bill, leave, and never return. Service was good. They have a special lunch menu Monday through Friday 11-3 and it's less than $20. I ordered the yellow curry with chicken. They ask you for the spice level. I don't like too spicy so I opted for a 3. The yellow curry is always my go to when I have Thai and it was very good. Just the right spice level and it came with rice and a few crab Rangoons. It also came with soup or salad. Thai Orchid has easily become one of my favorite Thai spots in the Northland... I've been here at least 6 times! Every single time it's a 10/10. It's warm, cozy, and just a nice place to sit and actually enjoy your meal. The staff are always friendly, super patient if you're deciding between dishes, and the bartender is quickkk which I appreciate. At this point, we've tried just about everything on the menu (non of the seafood dishes), and I genuinely haven't had a bad meal here. The tom kha soup, I literally cannot come here and not order it. It's creamy, flavorful, perfectly balanced with that coconut + citrus combo, and just comes together so well. Comforting, but still light. Another standout is the pad thai. Solid, flavorful, and cooked just right. Quick tip though: the noodles are thinner, so the spice definitely comes through more. If you like heat, keep that in mind. My personal favorite dish is the pad kee mao (drunken noodles). I usually go up a spice level on that one and it hits every time ... super flavorful, a little kick, and just really satisfying. Not pictured are the curries, but we've had all of them at this point and they are really good. My top two are the green curry and the panang. They are both rich, full of flavor, and consistently amazing. This is my go-to spot when I have friends in town or even just for an early dinner when I want something I know is going to be good without thinking too hard about it. I ordered the Basil Fried Rice and it was amazing! Jimmy & Chris were kind enough to have it made without soy sauce due to my gluten allergy and for my meat to be well done. I'm always happy when a successful Johnson County restaurant opens a second location in the Northland--and Thai Orchid is a welcome addition. Thai Orchid clearly knows how to deliver outstanding Thai cuisine. Service was excellent from start to finish, with great pacing and no hiccups along the way. Fortunately, I had done a little homework beforehand and scoped out several highly recommended dishes from other Yelp reviews--and those suggestions absolutely paid off. We kicked things off with cocktails. The Asian Pear Sake Punch was refreshing and lightly sweet, and the Lychee Martini was so smooth and flavorful we ordered a second round without hesitation. For starters, we went with a trio that Thai Orchid seems to be known for. The Crab Rangoon was hot, crispy, and generously filled--not overly sweet like some versions. The Crispy Spring Rolls were light and crunchy, served with a nicely balanced dipping sauce. The Basil Wings were the standout for me--crispy, aromatic, and coated in a savory basil-forward sauce that had just the right amount of kick. For entrées, I ordered the Crying Tiger Fried Rice at medium heat. The beef was tender, the rice perfectly seasoned, and the spice level built gradually without overpowering the dish. Met a friend here for dinner on a Friday evening around 530. There isn't a lot of parking in the immediate lot and I had to park in the parking lot a ways away. We were seated quickly and bought waters. Our service was good, not overly talkative or friendly but efficient. We had the Thai Orchid sampler, everything was fresh, I really like the dipping sauces. I had their Thai Heat Margarita and it was very good just not big enough. I ordered the double delight stir fry mild and my friend had the chicken pad Thai level 3 spice. I recently visited Thai Orchid's new Northland location and was truly impressed! The space is beautiful with a warm, inviting ambiance that makes the dining experience even better. The cocktail menu is fantastic. I tried the Lychee Martini and the Thai Espresso Martini, and both were delicious with great presentation. We started with the Thai Orchid Sampler, which included spring rolls, crab rangoons, and crispy rolls, along with the coconut shrimp. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. For our main dishes, we tried several items: the Tiger Garlic Fried Rice, Shrimp Pad Thai, Papaya Salad, Pad Kee Mao, and Beef Khao Soi. Every dish was packed with flavor and tasted authentic. You can really tell they put care into every plate. We ended with the Fried Banana & Ice Cream, which was the perfect sweet finish. After tasting some samples from Thai Orchid at the VIP Kickoff Party for KC Restaurant Week, I knew that I needed to check them off my to-do list and visit them immediately. I went in at 2:45pm on Saturday and they were bustling with business. I dined solo and sat at the bar where I was served by Hayden. A pleasant fellow that was doing a good job keeping everyone at the bar satisfied. For my two course $20 KCRW lunch menu, I chose the Crab Rangoon and Pad Thai. For $3, I upgraded to shrimp as my protein and for $5, I added a Thai Tea. Thai Tea was bold, creamy and soothing to the palate while eating my level 5/7 spiciness Pad Thai. The portion size of my entree left enough to take home half for a second meal. Quality, Quantity, and value! The Crab Rangoon was best in class, with small bite size portions. The interior is super cute and while I visited for lunch when the natural light was streaming in, I can only imagine the vibes at night with the decor and lights. Everything we ordered as really good - my favorite was the Crying Tiger Garlic Fried Rice. The marinated grilled beef was so tender and flavorful. We went to dinner at the Thai Orchid location in the Northland for the first time on Monday, July 20th. I was surprised the restaurant was very busy on a Monday night and I wished I made reservations. We waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2. We were provided with a small table by a side door. Take note that this small table for 2 is the only one with the most uncomfortable chairs. We looked around the restaurant and our table was the only one with these distinct chairs that were not cushioned. We were greeted by a server immediately and she was very helpful. We ordered a Thai iced tea, crab rangoon appetizer, a pad thai entree with chicken, shrimp, and fried tofu, plus a Tiger Cry Beef fried rice. The beverages and food were delicious. The crab rangoon appetizer was served as 10 pieces with a sweet sour sauce on the side. The pad thai with chicken, shrimp, and fried tofu was delicious and I will definitely order it again. The Tiger Cry Beef fried rice was very flavorful and I will order it again too. The entree portions were abundant and we shared both, plus took home leftovers. While the menu has a few dishes that need refinement, the consistent quality, vibrant flavors, and truly excellent service make this restaurant a must-try. I'm happy to give it 4 stars! ​The Service (A Highlight): The service consistently stands out and is the factor that really elevates the experience. Shout-outs to Kehshia (our kind lunch server who allowed a mid-meal change) and Heather (our festival dinner server). The General Manager, Anna Lee, also greatly enhanced our 4-course festival experience by providing informative background on the Thai culture, which made the evening truly special. We even received a complimentary birthday dessert once, showing their attentiveness. ​My Top Dishes & Drinks (Must-Tries): - ​Pork Laab: Hands down the best dish I've had here. It's perfectly balanced - sour, tangy, and fresh - and amazing paired with the lettuce. - ​Basil Chicken Wings: Very flavorful with a perfect balance of sweetness. I order these almost every time (medium spice is mild, so feel free to go hotter!). - ​Seafood Combo Basil Fried Rice (10/10): Incredible - so flavorful and packed with scallops, shrimp, and squid. Highly recommend it. - ​Braised Beef Ga Prao (4/5): This dish (which I had twice, once à la carte and once in the 4-course meal) is exceptional. They braised the beef for 6 hours. They are warm, crispy, have a wonderful cream cheese filling, and are served expertly with vanilla ice cream and apple sauce. - ​Spiced Asian Pear Sake Punch (5/5): The absolute best drink of the night during the festival dinner - bright, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. ​Areas for Refinement (Constructive Feedback): - ​Appetizers: The House-Made Thai Sausage (3/5) was a little dry, and the accompanying salad (lettuce, cucumbers, pickled ginger) felt incomplete and needed a proper dressing/sauce. - ​Entree Seasoning: The Thai Pumpkin Curry (3/5) was very rich and thick, but unfortunately too sweet, requiring me to add chili peppers and soy sauce for the necessary balance. Separately, the Pork Ga Prao I ordered at dinner was too salty. - ​Side Dishes: The steamed rice with the Braised Beef Ga Prao was cooked perfectly, but the dish itself needed more sauce. I also think sticky rice might be a better pairing option for that dish. - ​Canned Mushrooms: On my first visit, the canned straw mushrooms in the Pork Pad See Ew had an off-flavor and didn't belong in the dish. I recommend skipping the mushroom addition. - ​Cocktails: The drinks are hit-or-miss. While the Thai-tea-based and Spiced Asian Pear Sake Punch options were enjoyable, the coffee-flavor cocktails (Thai Brulee Carajillo and Thai Espresso Martini) were strong and bitter and weren't to my taste. Other drinks such as the Lychee Martini is too sweet and Strawberry Margarita needs improvement as well. ​Conclusion: Thai Orchid has created a welcoming atmosphere with excellent, memorable service and a menu full of vibrant flavors. I've been seeing a lot of people post about Thai Orchard, so when I had friends in town, we decided to give it a try! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was beautiful--really warm and welcoming. Since they're a new restaurant, I think they're still getting settled when it comes to timing and service. Nothing major, but noticeable. I ordered the Tiger Cried Beef, which I usually try at different Thai places to compare flavors. It was delicious--perfectly cooked, and the seasoning was on point. I added steamed vegetables on the side to balance it out, and it all came together really well. One of my friends ordered the flat noodles, but they were under-cooked and too chewy. The good news? After reheating the leftovers the next day, they were actually really tasty--just needed a bit more time. My biggest issue: one person at our table had to wait about 10 minutes after the rest of us got our food. That kind of throws off the whole meal, especially when you're dining out together. Unfortunately, the bathrooms could definitely use some attention, which took away from the otherwise polished vibe. Even though it wasn't busy, service was pretty slow. Everyone was friendly though -- especially the lady who brought out our appetizers; she was so cheerful and genuinely excited, which really brightened things up! We tried the soft spring rolls, and those were amazing -- super fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, that ended up being the best part of the meal. Went here for the first time during happy hour and really enjoyed it. This new location in the Northland has a great ambiance that is welcoming and neat. It's clean and well decorated with an upscale vibe. Staff was also super friendly. For the food, I tried the fried tofu, basil wings, basil fried rice, and tiger cry beef. They were all super delicious but the wings and fried rice were definitely two of my favorites. I also ordered the Thai coffee which I highly recommend if you enjoy coffee. The staff are friendly and can answer any question about the menu without even blinking. The very best drink offered on the menu is the Thai heat margarita but warning, it is exceptionally spicy. I also order the smoked plum old fashioned fairly often which is also a huge winner. The Pad Thai is my go to dish, but having tried the majority of the menu, I would recommend all of it.
