Piropos is one of my favorite restaurants in KC. The views of downtown are great, and the ambiance in the restaurant is very classic and elegant. Our service has always been fantastic. The waiters have always been friendly, attentive, and helpful. They even threw in a free dessert for us one time as we were celebrating Valentine's Day a bit early. You must try the empanadas! They are delicious. They have a wide variety or items on their menu and a good range of prices. I love the salmon, and have also enjoyed the steak! We had dinner at Piropos Argentine Restaurant tonight, and coming from a chef who tends to pick everything apart, I have to say--it was very good. We started with the empanadas, which my wife ordered, and they were absolutely delicious: flavorful, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. I had the wedge salad, which was crisp and fresh, and the blue cheese was outstanding--rich, bold, and perfectly balanced. For entrées, my wife chose the mixed seafood grill, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The seafood was cooked well and presented beautifully. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi with lobster risotto. The fish and risotto were both very good on their own--nicely executed and satisfying. The only critique I had was the red pepper cream sauce, which slightly overpowered the other components. I ended up eating around it, but overall, I still enjoyed the dish. The service was excellent and prompt, attentive without being overbearing. The decor really stood out--modern Argentine style, warm and upscale, making it an ideal atmosphere for a relaxed evening out. My husband and I went Feb 12th to not only be ahead of the Valentine's Day crowd, but also because I had to work on actual Valentine's Day. We had never been here but have heard great things. When we arrived we were surprised to have to wait 20 min even with our reservation but they were super busy. Our waitress even told us that the next two days they were expecting over 600 people a night! After being seated, everything was amazing! The dining area we were in was beautiful,elegant and our waitress was amazing. We enjoyed a famous chicken empanada, and their calamari to start, both were delicious. My husband got the chicken roulette and I got the shrimp and scallop pasta, both 10/10! We weren't sure we needed the bread basket but everyone around us ordered one and raved about it so naturally we got one too. They were right. The dips were phenomenal with their bread! We had to take some to go boxes home but we couldn't leave without trying their table side flamed crème brûlée. It was pretty good, but definitely could taste the alcohol they poured on it. I was blown away when I walked into the restroom & saw this beautiful stained glass! Service was punctual & professional. We had a larger group & everything came out on time & proper temperature. They offer a smaller specialty cocktail menu but they did not disappoint on the delivery! Everyone loved their food. Best steak I've had & I've tried a lot of steaks! I received a gift card to Piropo's probably 9 months ago, but finally just used it last weekend. I live in Overland Park, and Briarcliff is just not that convenient. But we were seeing the Book of Mormon matinee and I thought it would be a good opportunity to go a little bit north to use the gift card. I made reservations for 5:30 that evening, but it's such a big restaurant. We probably didn't need it. The space is kind of fun, but when you first enter, there's a room called the library on the left, and there were dirty tables in there and it was just kind of an icky first impression. They did block off the space by the time we went back down, but the door was still open, and the tables still had trash on them. But once we got upstairs, we liked the kind of homey, romantic atmosphere. We were seated in one of the dining rooms that faces downtown. Here was another sticking point for me, they've got all these tall ferns blocking the window, so I couldn't see downtown from where I was sitting, because there was a big fern blocking the view. I don't know why they must spend a lot of money on rent to have such a gorgeous view to block it with tall ferns. But I digress, onto the food. Our server came by relatively quickly after we sat down. My fiancé, and I both ordered drinks, which came pretty quickly. I really enjoyed my strawberry basil lemonade. It tasted exactly as you'd expect, which was what I was hoping for. I can't quite remember what my fiancé got. But then because we had a pretty big gift card we decided to ball out for dinner. We got the bread basket and some empanadas for an appetizer. I believe we had the ground beef, the four cheese, and the chicken. All three were very tasty and perfectly crisp. I thought the bread services was good, and their garlic "aïoli" was not what I was expecting, but if it was very tasty. Then we put in our orders for our entrées. My fiancé got the filet and I got the three steak medallions. They also came out pretty quickly. I had some pretty major issues with the temperature. I didn't end up complaining about it because the first steam I had was a little towards medium, despite me, ordering, medium rare, but then the other two stakes were very rare. Like to the point of being almost mooing, with a quick sear on the outside. But I was really hungry because I hadn't had lunch that day and I already eaten half of my plate so it didn't seem worth it to send it back when I could eat it. But it was just a weird inconsistency because you would think all three pieces would've cooked at the same time. I really loved the shrimp on it as well as the asparagus and the potatoes. My fiancé really liked his as well. We ended the dinner with the banana cake. I thought it was good, but it was almost too much banana, like maybe they added banana extract and just like a touch more than I want of banana. But I thought the texture was good and I liked the icing. All in all, it was a good meal. The service was good and I was generally happy with the flavors. But the blocked views and the weird dirty entrance were a big negative for me. I wouldn't say no if someone invited me out there again, but it's a long drive from where I live and past a lot of better steakhouses, so probably won't be in my rotation. But it is relatively affordable for a steakhouse and I think it's a nice occasion restaurant, with a crowdpleasing menu if that's what you're looking for. read more

My wife ordered the halibut, when they brought it, it didn't look right but she didn't question it. When we got the bill, they charged us for blackened mahi. They switched the fish on us and said nothing. On top of that the owners grandkids were seated a couple tables away from us and were disruptive to e erroneous in the room. I had the opportunity have dinner at Piropos with several colleagues from work. I started with a manhattan which was very well made, and ordered the chicken roulade. The chicken was pounded out and rolled with peppers, mushrooms, cheese, prosciutto, and spinach as well as vegetables and rice. There was a mishap on the way from the kitchen to the table, we heard the crash.... It's here that the restaurant went above and beyond in my eyes. The occasion was a date night and I'm so glad we chose Piropos. The serving staff did an amazing job and were very attentive throughout the night. We had the empanadas as a starter along with their in-house prepared bread. Then for my entree I had the nights special, which included a lobster tail, sirloin, jasmine rise, and grilled asparagus. For dessert we sampled their Churros Al Chocolate and Torta de Banana. Everything was amazing and so savory. My favorite had to be the empanadas, the jasmine rice I had as my side, and the lobster tail. Overall, I was super impressed with our service. While we had some hiccups in the night, the staff was nothing short of accommodating, and made our visit perfect. I will definitely return and I highly recommend trying Piropos out! read more

Empanada was fried which is not your typical Argentinian baked empanada Fillet mignon was ok the sauce was not impregned in the meat very well. I was hesitant about getting lamb but I know that when it is very well executed could be unbeatable. The waitress highly recommended it. It was chewy and not uniformly cooked. I cleared my plate, no crumbs were left. For desert we got the banana bread, it basically tasted like wet banana bread. A tres leche cake but with banana bread. We were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary and had heard people rave about this place so we decided to go. The decor is interesting with several rooms for seating. We were in the side room for a 6:15 reservation so no great views of the Skyline for us. It was cozy but decor seems a little tired? We started with the empanadas and they were ok. Would probably try something different for apps next time. My house salad was good with a nice acidic dressing and my husband said his Cesar was unremarkable although the presentation was great. Steaks were very good and cooked to request. I loved my potatoes a gratin and the mushrooms were very good, too. We got a complimentary cheesecake for dessert which was nice and we added the banana cake because we just wanted to try it. We liked that the best. Piropos is a classic, Kansas City staple. The food is always good and the ambiance is bustling and delightful. We went for NYE and met up with friends. Argentine is 3 hours ahead so at 9 pm CT we rung in our first NY with the owners. Champagne was served all around and the owners came to each table to wish a happy NY. If you didn't know Kelsey lived up the hill and brought TS here for their first dinner in town. Call it a claim to fame but Piropos has always been famous to KC'ians. We have been here before so we already knew what we were in for. Started with the Argentinian meatballs in marinara sauce, served with warm, crusty bread. Delicious! Next we had the chopped salad which is cut into perfect pieces and easy to eat. My husband had the filet medallions in brandy cream sauce with shrimp, mashed potatoes and asparagus. He left nothing on his plate. I had the stuffed chicken roulette. I was torn between a couple choices and our server said to go with the chicken. It was amazing. Stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, pancetta and Gouda served with, basmati I think, rice. It was so good. To finish all this off the hubs had the chocolate torte and I had the chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce. Everything was unbelievable. While I would've preferred a table around the outside or a booth, where we sat was not uncomfortable. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. If you like an old fashion, they make a good one. We had our daughter's Birthday dinner this evening at Piropos in Briarcliff and everything was fabulous! The ambiance was amazing. We sat by the window and enjoyed the lights on the beautiful buildings in Briarcliff. Our Server was attentive and hpful and we had no complaints. For the appetizer we ordered the beef and chicken empanadas with chimichurri sauce. They were crispy on the outside and filled with well seasoned meat. We all enjoyed them very much. I ordered the steak medallions with the shimp and thoroughly enjoyed the tender steak with the spicy seasoned shrimp. The food was presented beautifully on the plate. Dinner was exactly as I expected...over the top! The Trout Cristina was more than delicious! It was a taste experience! The wait staff and ambiance are superb! It was a great celebration for my daughter's birthday. The only downside to the experience was that I am handicapped and there is very little Handicapped Parking. If you are not aware of the upper entrance and go in the lower entrance there is a sweeping staircase with two landings to actually enter the restaurant and no elevator. We found out much later that there is a second entrance if you go around to the second drive so you can enter the main restaurant. Again there is very little Handicapped Parking in the lot. All this being said I would still recommend this restaurant. Just be aware if you, or a member of your party is handicapped. read more

We loved this place back when it was perched on the bluff in Parkville. It was quirky, intimate, unforgettable--a true local gem. Sure, the parking was a nightmare and the drive up was mildly terrifying... but somehow, that was part of the charm. Since moving to Briarcliff, the vibe isn't quite the same--it's a little more polished, a little less magical--but the food? Still absolutely phenomenal. This is a very pretty nice upscale restaurant in Briarcliff. When you go through the front doors, you go up a spiral staircase that has cool art on the walls. The waiter was very attentive, always checking on us. I started with the Piropos chop. It has chopped romaine, crispy pancetta, carrots and onions with a blue cheese dressing. Yum. I also had their signature dish which is an 8 oz peppercorn encrusted filet in brandy cream sauce along with au gratin potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. So good! By the time I ate all that I was stuffed, so no dessert. It would be an excellent place for a date night. I was with my brother. It has great views of the city. Did we have amazing food at Piropos? YES. Did I take a single picture? No. :( This is an unusual phenomenon for me but there were extraordinary forces at work. 1. We had come from the movies where I had purposely not eaten much because I knew I was going to stuff myself with steak. 2. When our food arrived there were supernatural forces guiding it into my mouth. I don't think my phone was in the same plane of existence. We started our dining experience with the bread course. That garlic aoli is special...I feel like calling it aoli is like lumping it into the same category as any other run of the mill mayo based dipping sauce. NAY! It is truly stunning. I could eat it on a shoe and enjoy it. (This is unverified but I stand by my choices.) I got the 8oz peppercorn encrusted filet with brandy cream sauce, cooked perfectly medium rare. It came with decadent Au Gratin Potatoes (Samwise Gamgee would have been comatose) and some of the best grilled mushrooms in the Shire, I mean KC. My hubs got the special which was also a filet (I think?) but no sauce or peppercorns...paired with creamy and luxurious lobster risotto, a quad of succulent grilled shrimp and tender asparagus. He was in heaven. We finished our meal (even though I was stuffed my husband said "it's served flambéd at table side babe!") with a deliciously silky crème brûlée with the perfect sugar top. My only complaint and the only reason I am giving it 4 stars is that below us there was a private party doing karaoke. When you're paying almost $200 for your meal, you don't want to hear Betsy singing "Pink Pony Club" after 4 glasses of rosé, ya know? Incredible dining experience!!! After a long day driving across Kansamy business colleague stopped fort there night. He had been here previously & highly recommended this restaurant. As I started out it was nothing short of incredible. We began with the Seafood Empanadas - magnificent!! Our waiter told us the specials of the day and although a few sounded very appealing I had to go with the 8oz filet. That steak was done to perfection! It was easy to cut and the taste was exquisite. The mashed potatoes were done just right and silky smooth. The green beans were not my favorite but I did manage to eat all of them. I did like the fact that they were combined with onion & bacon. The meal was just enough and right proportions that I managed to have dessert! I chose the Churro's which were filled with carmel and a chocolate drizzle along with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Truly every dessert would have been outstanding but I could only choose one. My colleague decided on the Chocolate Mousse with a raspberry drizzle. I wish I could have had both, desserts they were that good. The decor was very interesting and added to the dining experience. I love coming to Piropos whenever I'm in town. Almost 20 years ago, it was where I had one of my first few dates with my (then boyfriend) husband. The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. Our server Nancy is a gem and I hope to see her again on my next visit. Needless to say, Piropos holds a special place in my heart. However, Piropos can and should do without the cheap and rude magician they brought in as entertainment. First of all, nobody needs it and secondly he's lucky I'm not blasting him on social media. Telling me that I must be a "dancer at a bar", was neither funny nor acceptable. In any other case I would have ripped him a new one, but I chose to not allow him to ruin my night with friends I see once a year. I chose not to go to the manager, only because of the time I wanted to spend with my friends. While I will continue to return to Piropos when I'm in town, I recommend they leave out this cheap, good for nothing POS from their pristine establishment. read more

I was interested in seafood and GF wanted steak. Piropo's seemed like the fix. I forgot it was Mother's Day. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to get a table outside quickly - score on that point. The seats outside were nice and we enjoyed the sunset. We ordered the Brie en croute. A runner brought the appetizer, but we had no plates, no silverware, no napkins, and surprisingly no crackers. We waited ten minutes, while the Brie cooled, for our waitress to return, only to have a second waitress in the area help us. Alternate waitress also refilled water. Our waitress finally returned for our order. GF got filet, and I got the blackened Mahi. Food served by a runner. I asked for more water. Our waitress appeared about five minutes later. The food was very good. The risotto was great. The Mahi was tender. Our waitress asked if we wanted desert. We declined. This would normally be a trigger for the check. Finally, I flagged down the alternative waitress (who was handling four other tables very well) to get a bag for the steak and to find our waitress, who eventually emerged. A Kansas City favorite! With a beautiful view and great food, it's always a great place to visit for any occasion. I most recently visited with my mom before attending a sip and paint class nearby. We started with some GREAT espresso martinis. They really know how to do these here. We kept it light with some crab cakes and empanadas. The empanadas were so good. These are a Piropos staple and something you really need to try. I think we got cheese, chicken and possible beef. Last, we tried the stuffed churros and LET ME TELL YOU, star of the show!!! So freaking good I highly recommend. The space itself is charming but definitely has a clean/fancy feel, so I wouldn't go here for a casual meal. I recommend Piropos if you want the Best Argentinian Food around. I loved absolutely everything I tried on the menu. The different variety of flavors with all the empandas very delicious. Breaded Calamiri was prefect for being in Kansas City. Chilled Shrimp Cocktail was a plesant surprise. I ordered the Chicken Roulette Argentinian Style and this was cooked perfectly. Their seafood is so yummy! I went there twice. The first time I went, it was before Christmas and the view with the lights were so pretty, the ambiance in the restaurant was cozy and relaxing. I got the seafood grill of the day that day. And they were so nice to customize my order to remove grilled salmon and add extra shrimp. The dessert was great too. I got the crème brûlée. Delicious! The second time I went was yesterday. The service was great as the first time, and the food was again amazing. I got the grilled trout and the potato/corn soup. They were so good.
