Much to my surprise the food here was truly excellent! My family stopped in for lunch on a long ride from Savannah, and were looking for a change from southern food. The Pad Thai was delicious as was the Chili Chicken. Great flavors and very authentic. We also appreciated the decor. All the tables and chairs are solid wood beautifully hand carved and imported from Thailand. Found this on yelp and definitely had high expectations: I agree with the other review about the portion size- way small than most Thai places especially the gyoza! I mean $6 for 4 tiny little dumplings- I'll attach photos after this so you can see the size but one was eve so overlooked that it was entirely dried out on the inside. We ended up spending $14 for our two young kids (3 year old and 1 year old) which is definitely a disappointment. The drunken noodles were the best part of the meal. We also ordered the massaman chicken curry- it just wasn't very flavorful to what we are used to :/ for this tiny town, it's probably good but in comparison to other Thai places out there, it's very subpar and overpriced. I don't know how they get away with charging so much with these portion sized. I think we spent $50 for two adults and two tiny kids!!! The Thai tea was good/ service was decent. We stopped here while traveling due to good Yelp reviews. However, our family was not impressed. Bathrooms were disgusting. The wait AFTER ordering our food was an hour and 15 mins. We had to flag down a waitress to get refills because I think she was the only waitress working in the entire establishment. Food was just okay. Passing through and called ahead for the drunken noodles. I was in a bad reception area, but the hostess was super polite as I called in three times to place my order. Place was hopping for a Wednesday night, but my to go order came out fairly quickly. Noodles were just ok. Veggies were overcooked and the food had an overlying sweet taste that overpowered all other tastes. It was at least spicy, so that was cool. Well, the saying that you can't judge a book by its cover is definitely true for Thai Orchid. Our options in Orangeburg were definitely limited. After seeing some horrific reviews for other nearby restaurants (even the chains) we decided to take a chance on Thai Orchid. Boy were we glad that we did. As others have said this certainly looks like a hole in the wall. A food truck sits outside adjacent to the front entrance. If it wasn't for other Yelpers we probably wouldn't have gone through the the front door. Boy are we glad we did. Thai Orchid has incredible food. My wife and two of my daughters had the Phad See Eaw. My youngest daughter had the Chicken and Vermicilli Soup. I had pineapple fried rice. Yes, sounds pretty pedestrian but believe me they were all incredible. The spices in the fried rice dish were incredible. The Phad See Eaw had the right amount of vegetables and sweetness. If we ever make our way to Orangeburg again (on the way to the beach from Charlotte) we will definitely stop at Thai Orchid again. read more

Like other folks, I think the only issue I had was service; there were two servers for five tables of people, place was three quarters empty. I tried to make eye contact, but the young lady didn't seem to understand. Never got a refill on my drink, which sat empty on my table for half an hour. By the time I could ask for the wifi password, my meal was finished. Mostly an older crowd when I was there. I had the satay and pad Thai, which were both decent. As we traveled to Florida, we decided to try this restaurant because of its great reviews. They must have had an off night because the food was terrible. I ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp. The shrimp tasted " grainy" and the noodles were all stuck together. I threw it away. We also ordered the Won Ton soup. It was good, but the won ton wasn't filled with the typical pork but some breaded filling. My husband got the cashew chicken and he was totally disappointed as well. I was visiting Orangeburg and we to give this place a try. The appetizers were great, the sushi was not. We ordered a "boat" for 2 people. The rolls that cane with the boat were not rolled tightly so they kept falling apart. The sashimi was very warm and so was the rest of the raw fish on the sushi and in the rolls. The sushi was topped with thick and uneven slices and the fish had a wet and floppy texture. Our friends had thai food and they were all incredible. While the outside isn't so appealing, the inside of the restaurant is actually VERY nice. There's not much around the area to choose from, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. My wife and I ordered the Crab Rangoon, Beef Satay, Chicken Mixed Vegetables, Cashew Chicken, Fried Ice Cream, and Taro Custard with ice cream. Everything tasted fresh and simple. My favorites were actually the Crab Rangoon and the Taro Custard. It was very tasty. The Rangoon was delicious and cooked perfectly. Everything inside meshed very well. The Custard was incredible. It was not super sweet, but it was warm and the ice cream complimented it nicely. Our waitresses were very friendly and helpful with the menu. First time in Orangeburg and we were looking for something different than your average American food that is plentiful in this area. This place caught my eye because of the ratings it has. Once we got there, it didn't look like anything to write home about. But, the food is really good. I had the wonton soup and drunken noodles. My wife had the Tom yum soup and wings with shrimp fried rice. All of it was really good. For being a Thai restaurant in the middle of SC, it was really good and authentic. The place itself is fairly clean and the decorations are very Asian. The people were nice, however, it seemed they were very understaffed for a Saturday night. The service was really slow. We even had to get up from the table to go get our check. Our food took longer than normal to get there, but, like I said it was really. Bravo to Yelp for designing an app that brought my family to this LOVELY Thai place. Lunchtime found us on I-26 on the last leg of a looong drive home, and Dad got tired of the usual Cracker Barrel. So firing up the Yelp App revealed that a certain Thai Orchid was, luckily, just 15 minutes away...in Orangeburg, SC. Wherever that was. But the ratings were impressive, and the promise of green curry and pad thai and basil and ginger beckoned. The drive from the Interstate into Orangeburg was pretty straightforward, but the endpoint brought us to a slightly tired-looking ex-Hardees in a somewhat empty strip mall. A bit of trepidation filled the rental minivan. We cautiously circled this place. It had the right name. The "open' neon light was on. Fearless Father ventured out in the South Carolina humidity, while the rest of the family waited, cellphones at the ready to call 911. A tentative knock elicited a friendly wave; the place WAS open. As alluded to in previous posts, the inside was warm and inviting. Heavy and beautifully hand-carved teak tables and chairs complemented the interior. The menu provided a lot of options, all of which looked so tasty, but we initially went with our usual choices: shrimp pad thai, chicken green curry, and fresh spring rolls. After some deliberation we got the crispy basil duck and some chicken wings as well. Being Southeast Asians, our expectations and standards insofar as Thai food is concerned are quite high, and we were all very satisfied by the dishes. This restaurant should be on your GPS if you travel through I-26. We are already planning that future trips should include a lunch break there! read more

I have been a regular here when in town for business since they opened. The girls that run this are super nice. The food is amazing. The fresh sushi is only available on certain days because that's when they get it. I like that. The pad Thai is the best I have ever had. My favorite has become the red curry with tofu, hot. Don't mind the exterior and try it out if you're looking for some traditional Thai food. They have all your typical dishes including Pad Thai, all the noodles, all the curries, as well as some main entrees. The interior is filled with heavy and intricate chairs and tables with some Asian decor hanging on the walls. It's obvious they spent some money on the interior after taking over an old Hardees. I had the red curry w/ chicken and it was good. I would say pretty much the same in most cities. Our family was in town this weekend for a convention. We have had a hard time finding very many good restaurants in the local area. Thai Orchid definitely stands out as one of the best we have tried! We eat Thai food a lot and theirs was definitely some of the best we have ever had anywhere. The coconut soup was far and above the best I have had in any Thai restaurant anywhere! I am thinking about ordering a gallon of it to take home with me. All the food was delicious and vegetables were very fresh. We came in with a large crowd and the servers were very friendly. They took their time and did not seem rushed. They got all of our orders correct and even had the checks separated correctly. The food came out relatively quickly and was delicious. Went here (unfairly) expecting a pretty rough ride, surrounding area doesn't exactly scream "excellent Thai food is near." It's actually not bad! Complimentary spring roll was a little take out Chinese-y but my noodle dish was pretty solid and I would reorder. If I'm ever in the area again and want Thai I would be completely fine with returning here. The real gem of the place was our waiter, who between me and my girlfriend may have shared 15 words with us. Including zero when giving or accepting payment on the check. He's got a special place in our hearts. That last part is actually somewhat serious, some may look at it as him (very unintentionally) being rude but we thought it was hilarious. Family owned and operated, we dine at Thai Orchid several times a month and never ceases to amaze me. Duck dishes are awesome, had Pad Thai pork added vegetables last night, the best I've ever had ! Thai Orchid Rolls are delicious served with a sweet chili sauce and a sesame sauce I would love to get the recipe for. I ordered for the first time shrimp in a blanket, eaten them many places these were the best I've ever had !!! Laab Gai is fantastic as is the Duck Noodle Soup. Could not make up my mind a couple of weeks ago and ask the sever to have the kitchen prepare whatever they would like ! I have done this at other restaurants in the past and it can be hit or miss, as expected. What they prepared was not on the menu (finally) !!!! A beautiful piece of grilled salmon with Thai eggplant and green curry sauce over jasmine rice ! Deserves emojis, but not from me. Salmon was perfectly cooked as were the eggplant. I'm telling you the best cooked salmon dish I've ever eaten and yes in the old Hardee's in the Orangeburg Mall parking lot. In these times business for food and bev are extremely tough, please visit Thai Orchid and other small family run places. When you pull up the building isn't much to look at. Don't let that scare you off. It's inviting on the inside with a good vibe. They play jazz music which I think is nice. Their lunch prices are very reasonable. I got L1 off of the menu. It tastes amazing but I had to get the spice tray to give it more of a kick since I like everything VERY hot. The service was good and the food came out fast. I don't come to Orangeburg very often but next time I do, I'll be back. read more

Thai food is my favorite and we found this little hole in the wall on the way home from out of town. It looks a little sketch from the outside because it looks like an abandon fast food drive thru, but the inside is all decorated very authentic and beautifully. The food was delicious! First and foremost, I love Thai food. Having seen previous reviews, I went into Thai Orchid for lunch yesterday with high expectations. The food was absolutely on point. I had Pad See Ew w/ chicken... and soup and an egg roll was served before the meal. The tables are very nice and the ambiance is great for a casual lunch date, a business meal, a celebratory dinner, and/or anyone who just enjoys Thai food. The ONLY reason why Thai Orchid fell short of 5 stars, for me, is because it didn't seem to be staffed very well during lunch time. By "staffed" I mean if there were a few more waiters/waitresses I have no doubt that the customer service would have been perfect. Nevertheless, you have to try this place!! read more

Thai Orchid I can tell you that the staff was attentive, pleasant and the dining area looked clean. I am from an area rich with all of the flavors from the Pacific rim; therefore I maybe unfair to the Thai Orchid kitchen who could simply be giving their neighborhood what they want to eat and to suit the locals taste. I ordered the gyoza and panang shrimp. The gyoza was immediately disappointing. I have learned the hard way that one should never attempt to bite into a potsticker as soon as it is served from the kitchen. I first attempt to cut the slimy dumpling and then drain about a teaspoon of water from within. The only part that was warm was the part that hit cast iron and even it was not really crisped. The dipping sauce had an off putting metallic taste to it. I took a bite of the carrot garnish to cleanse my pallet and tried again going in for the sauce...ugh. A repeat of my first bite. Not to worry; if Chopped has shown America anything it is that a meal is not to be judged by a single course. On to the entree. I asked for my dish to prepared as a med-hot curry and honestly I have had Big Mac's with more assertive flavors. It was by no means unpleasant, the ingredients appeared to be fresh and wholesome, but dreadfully under seasoned. Some curry dishes at other venues will jump out of the bowl and slap the crap out you as a foundation; this is not one of the aforementioned dishes. I do not want to come off as snobby ,but if I do, then I can still live with myself. Back to the safety of the Cracker Barrel I go. Best of luck. read more

Had a meeting in Orangeburg, where to eat? Saw Yelpers liked this place so I gave it a try. Five of us at the meeting, all pleased with the food, actually very good! They would have received 5 stars had the food been hot and had the waitress done done a better job of listening, she walked away 3 times as we were trying to place an order or ask for a drink! Bizarre! Don't let the outside fool you, very cute inside. At end of meal, one of the owners came over to thank us and check on us, very sweet. So all in all, 5 stars for the food and 2 stars for the service, easy to fix with a little coaching! Will be back next month:-) read more

Over my last four visits, meal size and quality has done down each time. The food has gone from excellent to just average.

It is a 40 minute drive from my house to the restaurant. I would make the drive every day of the week for this spectacular food! I havent had such authentic thai food since traveling to Bangkok! So delicious! Highly recommend! The service was wonderful as well. We will be back often read more
