We live on the coast, and this is one of our favorite Thai restaurants. The food has been consistently excellent. I enjoy the egg rolls to start, then the basil fried rice is delicious. My wife is vegan and there are many things to choose from. (A rarity on the coast). We finish up with mango sticky rice if it's in season. Everything we've eaten here has tasted fresh and authentic. They also have interesting drinks. The location is excellent. With great views of the bay and bridge. The atmosphere is casual, but very clean and the waitress (owner?) is always very polite. It's kind of hidden, so we usually don't have to wait for a table. Overall, you can't go wrong here if you like fresh Thai food. We go here almost every time we come to town. My family and I were super hungry while we were exploring the downtown Newport area, and we ran into Thai Port! It was an absolutely beautiful location, right on the ocean with a front view of the bridge. The entire restaurant was made up of windows, and you could see boats passing by, the sunset, and any seals that swam by. The inside of the restaurant was clean, calm, and welcoming; not too many decorations where you could get over stimulated. They had a traditional Thai menu along with boba on their menu. We ordered pad thai, red curry, and yellow curry. Bowls that the dishes came out of were beautiful, and the presentation was amazing. Portions were small though, especially for the standard prices of $14. For that price, you could almost get double the amount of Thai food elsewhere. Service was amazing, the spot was beautiful, and the food was delicious. My only complaint would be the portion size! Don't come here if you are starving and are looking to get full, but come here if you want a beautiful meal in a relaxing environment. read more

Upon entering this little restaurant at the edge of the pier, we were immediately greeted by the very nice ladies behind the counter. We sat by the window which gave us a very beautiful view of the port and the coast itself. The food was brought out really quick! My shrimp pad thai had a good flavor and good texture and the chicken pad thai had a sweeter taste to it. The peanuts were also intermingled into the dish instead of on top and we really liked that touch. We do not recommend the fried squid, it was small and crunchy and reminds us almost of onion rings. That thai tea boba was definitely worth it, it was smooth and creamy but not too sweet. I am curious to try the other boba they offer. Overall it is safe to say we want to come back and try more! This is the worst thai food I've ever had! Pad Thai was too sweet! Sauce looks like a sugar syrup. I did not even eat it because the sweetness hurts my throat. The entire plate when they served it, I knew that there's something wrong, lacking of everything - no vegetables in sight, not a single garnish of any greens. It was just a plate of brown noodles lol! The peanut sauce is terrible - might as well use a store bought peanut sauce. The satay is salty, made out of a chicken breast and cut super thick so the inside is pinkish! I was so surprised , I thought it's standard - when you make satay it's supposed to be chicken dark meat and thin cut only! Ordered delivery. Arrived on time and hot. But, no napkins, no utensils, no plates. I'm in a hotel and needed to go to lobby to get what I needed. The curry with peanut sauce and brown rice was very good. The lettuce wrap was okay but the lettuce was cut in small slices making it difficult to "wrap" the filling. The salad rolls were good but more veggie than protein (shrimp). Overall it was good but not thinking about how a person in a hotel was supposed to eat the meal left me baffled. To be honest, I have seen this a lot lately with other restaurants and I wonder if the NOVID 19 has impacted restaurant profits to the point that they are cutting back on extras to reduce costs. I mean go to a fast food restaurant and ask for salt and pepper. What do you get? One tiny packet of each. Remember the days when the server would throw a handful of s&p into the bag?? read more

Work and leisure lined up such that we were able to stop by Thai Port twice in two weekends, and both were 10/10 experiences. Wonderfully friendly wait staff, great casual ambiance, clean spaces, and some of the best Thai food I've had anywhere. Red peanut curry, stir fried eggplant, Pad Thai, fried spring rolls and fresh salad rolls were all beyond reproach. The value is wonderful, especially considering their great location right on the water, the portions they offer, and the obvious quality of the produce and proteins. I can't say enough nice things about these folks and their business. I hope you give them a try. read more

Yummmm! I started with the fresh spring rolls (it says 2, but really it's 2 HUGE ones cut in half, making 4 large rolls) that almost filled me up before dinner even arrived. I ordered them and asked for extra peanut sauce too, knowing I'd need it because I always run out before I finish dipping. She brought me a decent-sized bowl of sauce (which was really good, by the way), and my 4 spring rolls with tofu. They were delicious! I love veggies though. If you don't want pretty much a salad wrapped in thin roll skin, maybe add shrimp or chicken. Next time, I'll have them add shrimp. I devoured 3 and left 1 for later, as dinner had arrived. I had flat wide noodles with onions, red bell peppers, basil, and a few other things (#73 with tofu), and it was so good! Next time, I'd like to try it with scallops. I finished half of my food and felt too full to keep going. I asked for a box, and the waitress was sweet enough to have included a to-go container of peanut sauce in there (she noticed I left behind one spring roll for later and assumed I'd like more sauce, how thoughtful!). I put my leftovers in the box and happily ate them later, for supper, I guess. They were just as delicious. My boyfriend had the kao soy curry, which is his favorite curry. It was the daily special. He enjoyed it, but said it wasn't as flavorful as the one at his favorite Thai place in Bend. He also had the egg rolls, but ended up wishing he got my fresh rolls. The egg rolls were really small, and he had ordered then because it said there were 4 of them and only 2 spring rolls, so he thought he was getting more food for the same cost. He also loved my peanut sauce instead of his sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. Lesson learned--get greedy and you end up with less. :P I didn't try the egg rolls, but he thought they were okay. We also shared a pot of tea in the cutest little elephant teapot. We enjoyed our food, the service, and the rain on the windows and on the deck right outside. It was also fun watching the crab catchers outside, lowering their pots, bringing them back up with three crabs inside, measuring them, and taking them home. Fabulous!! Seriously, divine. From Medford (4 hours south) and read the reviews while in town. So glad we chose this place. We got the special appetizer "Thai Port Rolls". Like a wonton in a roll with imitation crab and basil with a sweet dipping sauce. Yum!!! My BF got the crab fried rice. I'm not a fan of crab but he said it's delish! I got the House Special Noodle Curry with tofu. Giant bowl of heavenly curry and veggies and NOODLES. O...M...G... life complete. Medium level of spicy is great--not too spicy at all. I usually do spicier but I wanted to still taste it. Precious (server) is rad! She's so friendly and upbeat and hilarious. She even let us run next door for a shot of Patron while we waited for our food (which was ready in no time at all). And she played us her current fave music--which we loved. Great view. We decided to try Thai Port the other day since its new and we love Thai food...and it was really good! We will for sure be back here, we really liked this place and I can't wait to try their other curry dishes! They are where Saffron Salmon used to be down on the bayfront, and its a great location with a lovely view. They decorated the place very nicely, with a mix of ocean stuff and Thai theme. They have a TV that plays Thai travel videos and a cool sign that says "Thai Port". Anyway, the waitress was very sweet and helpful, and attentive as well, and we were seated quickly and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. My husband got their Mussamun Curry, and I decided to try their Kao Soy special. The food came out in a timely manner, and the portions were very large, which was great! My husband did have to ask for more rice, however our waitress was super accommodating and brought more right out. He was happy with his curry, and I was really pleased with the Kao Soy...it was a mix of red and yellow curries, and instead of being served with rice it contained noodles. It also had lots of onions and ginger in the curry broth, which was really tasty and different...if you like onions and ginger, you would like the Kao Soy! It was a good dish and different from other curries I have had, but still tasty and flavorful. We also got Thai Iced Teas which were very good also. We will definitely be back here to eat again, and if you are looking for Thai I would recommend Thai Port over the other place in town, the Thai Elephant. read more

A bunch of rowdy women out for the day hit up this new place in town. And for being the new guy on the street they seemed to have it down. First off they are immediately lucky to have an awesome view. Water is so close that you think you are moving in a boat. I think there's about a dozen tables in there so plenty of room to spread out. Ah but the waitress, "Precious" is her name and don't start with all the jokes, she's heard all of them haha. Precious was very helpful with all of our questions (and we had a lot). The menu has all the favorites plus some unique ones. I ordered one of the specials, Kao Soy, that they had on the blackboard. It consisted of a bowl full of soft noodles, lots of fresh veggies in a red and yellow curry sauce with crispy noodles on top. Very flavorful and scrumptious. So good! I could eat the crab fried rice EVERYDAY. And we literally did that for 2 days in a row! Being egg/dairy/gluten free, the waitress (who was super sweet, very knowledgeable and friendly) steered us away from the Khao Soy special (fried egg noodles over red curry broth) and recommended house curry noodle instead. We got spicy level 3 out of 4 for red house curry, since red curry already has a little heat to it. The heat was a good level - it made my nose run and mouth warm but not burning. The curry noodle was delish; most places use premade curry paste (not a bad thing, there are really good curry pastes available) but the crab fried rice is what I fell into obsession with. The next day we ordered take-out and ordered more crab fried rice (because eating it for dinner, breakfast and then dinner and breakfast again wasn't enough), string beans with scallops and pad kee mao. The string beans were tasty but a lot of oil (typical for this dish), but holy moly, so many large scallops! What a deal! I also imagine the pad kee mao would have been amazing if we ate it fresh at the restaurant. - still very tasty! Spicy levels: - 3 out of 4 is like Oregon extra spicy. - 4 was described as somewhere between Oregon extra spicy and Thai spicy. *ouch* - They add extra raw Thai red chilies to make it spicy. So I'm guessing you can also just ask for some chilies/condiments on the side and adjust it to your own liking. Having opened on New Year's (2019), the owner was giving everyone trinkets from Thailand as good luck, and to celebrate their grand opening. - such a sweet gesture. They were great about food allergies. I enjoy having a meal where I'm not writhing in pain afterwards. The server was exceptional. She knew exactly what was in the dishes and how they taste, she also had awesome recommendations. It was a quiet night; there was 1 older couple and 1 other guy eating there. We could hear the server talk to the owner/chef in a mix of broken English and Thai over Thailand travel videos and old school Thai music. The server has been working with the chef for a while and calls her Mom out of respect. And since it was such a quiet night, we got to hear some funny stories about her clumsy friend. The restaurant itself is a medium size, there's ample seating for 2-5 people groups and I'm sure they'll be happy to push some tables together for larger groups. The place also faces the water, not the street. When we first approached it, I thought mistook the art gallery for the restaurant and was about to turn around thinking it was closed, so keep walking down the pier and you'll see it! A very honest review : I'm confused by other reviews on here..... why this restaurant is rated so high. If you want real Thai food don't go here this isn't a Thai restaurant it's a horrible imitation of what Thai food is. -Appetizer: chicken satay , frozen chicken on skewers reminds me of something I buy at Costco "WestEnd Cuisine Grilled Chicken Skewers" there ya go add peanut sauce done Soup- Tom yum soup : not a terrible soup but it's not Tom yum soup. And then Lemongrass chicken I have their recipe. Boil broccoli , carrots then plate cook some chicken and throw on a lot peanut sauce with a few pieces of cilantro of all things and bam that's their Lemongrass chicken. Wow. Amazing food. Great service. I do not proclaim to be an expert foodie, but I used to travel year round for work for years and so I have had Thai food in cities across the US. The "Thai beef noodle soup" here was one of our favorite soups that my bf and I have ever had. The broth! Oh my. You could feed me just the broth and I would melt. The beef was really tender. It had so much well balanced flavor. This soup was on the specials board, but due to popularity the owner said she may keep it year round. The restaurant is new, so they are probably still feeling it out. We also had the "Pad Curry Powder Noodle" with extra veggies and it was wonderful as well. I like spice, but not if it burns your face off, so we went with medium spice. It was still pretty spicy yet flavorful and amazing. If you don't like spice be sure to tell them! They are happy to cater, but know that their medium is still fairly spicy compared to American food. Our server was really nice and let us know this up front. The server instantly made us feel at home. I appreciate authentic non-pretentious service, and she did a great job. One of the most important jobs of a server is to be familiar with the menu, and able to guide the guests. Precious excelled in this! Her recommendations were on point, and she was genuine and thoughtful. (Yes, I asked her name so that I could include it in the review). We have had good meals down the street in the past, but they were not as memorable, and were more expensive. I recommend giving this new place a try! read more

It is a small place by the port and you can see the bridge and the bay from the restaurant. It is a nice casual dining atmosphere. The red curry with chicken was very tasty with bamboo shoot and eggplant served with white rice but would have loved to see more veggies in the dish. The curry was sweet but not too sweet and was served more like soup. This place does not have papaya salad in the menu. The thai iced tea tasted good but would have been better with blended ice.
