Another 5 star Thai review by me? Yes. Here's why. I love mom & pop type places. This seems like one of them. It's located 8 mins away from my house so my Thai craving is satiated on the reg. The quality/quantity of food for the price is really what makes this 5*. I think it's something like $7-8 for a curry dish. That's crazy good pricing for such tasty food. My wife still gets the Red Curry and I usually get the Panang curry. We also order roti with our curries and my only qualm is that it can be a little too greasy. The taste is there but, like I said, a little too greasy. Couldn't in my right mind take away a star for that though. 3 out of 4 on the spice level is pretty spicy and we're happy to eat it at that level. They deliver but since we live so close, we just order take-out and feast in privately at home without others judging how quickly we devour our nom. read more

Visited Thai Spice Kitchen for lunch today. I was looking for a light meal so I ordered a Nam Sod salad. I asked for medium spice but it turned out to be spicier than I could handle. If not for the strong spiciness it would have been great. The dish is like a lettuce wrap. My friend had the Bangkok Waterfall salad with strips of beef,jalapeño, cilantro & mint. It was delicious. This place is consistently awesome. We have been here three times in the past two weeks and we like most of the dishes we tried here. The noodle dishes, curry dishes, soups, amazing peanut sauce dish, bangkok fried rice, calamari, and even their purple rice dessert were all top notch. We have yet to try a dish that we didn't like. Everything was perfectly seasoned with no exception. My favorite dish so far is the Bangkok fried rice, and it is probably the best fried rice I have had in years. It was so good that I finished every single grain of rice on the dish. I also love the Thai tea at this place, and it is my favorite Thai tea in Jax. It has the perfect amount of sweetness, creaminess, and it is not watered down. This place is also very cheap compared to other Thai places in town, and the prices of lunch and dinner are the same! My go-to lunch spot for authentic and flavorful Thai. It's truly difficult to come across good Thai. This is the Pad Mao w/o mushrooms and added broccoli with spice level of 3. This food never disappoints. For this particular lunch break, I decided to sit and enjoy myself while also studying. I typically order and pick up with a 10 minute turn-around. I was seated immediately upon my arrival, my food was prepared fast and hot, and my server was very nice. I was able to study in peace. I ordered Panang Chicken to go. It was without a doubt the worse Thai food I have ever attempted to eat. The sauce was Very watery and the chicken was horrible. I couldn't even eat any of the chicken as it was tough and rubbery. I threw the chicken away and tried to thicken the sauce a bit which I did. The rice was somewhat dry but I was hungry and ate the vegetables which were pretty bad too. Never going there again. Amazing restaurant. Frequently enjoyed their Thai Fried Rice as hot as I could get it for lunch with colleagues while working in the area the past few years. Always busy but got you in and out regardless. Enjoyed dinner there tonight on a whim with my husband. The pom young soup ($5.95) had very little veggie/meat and not lemon grass...but it was packed with onions and tastless. the salad was not worth $10. This is one of my favorite Thai places to go. I love green curry with scallops and sweet basil friend rice so that's usually what I order? And it's great! After about 5 times of ordering it, Im convinced that they have the best sweet basil friend rice in Jax. I've both dined in and ordered take out. The experience and atmosphere here is nice. Its quaint and intimate and I like the decor. The musical selection is always good and plays softly in the background. I don't know what the station or playlist is, but it catches my ear every-time. I've been here three times now, and everytime I have really enjoyed my food. This time I ordered the Vegetable Panang and the Pad Ga Poew, both 4 hot. Both plates were delicious, but the panang had so much more flavor. Also, ordered the Roti as always but this time it was undercooked and greasy. In a food coma as I write this and I doubt I'll b able to move from this booth. We started w their version of a fresh spring roll. So many layers of flavor and very fresh. The sauce has some sour zip to it so I put some sriracha on my roll. I ordered yellow curry w a spice level of 3 out of 4. It's accompanied by white rice but I ordered a side of roti to go w the sauce. The curry had potatoes onion red pepper and u pick your protein. Curry seems to be the popular dishes here and I see why. Creamy, spicy and delicious. Full of flavors. The roti was huge! He had the beef pad Thai and said it's the best he has had in the cities. This used to be my favorite restaurant. I ate there 3 days a week as a regular. One night I ordered the same thing I always did; red beef curry, wonton soup & crispy spring rolls. I AM ALLERGIC TO SHRIMP. They have never put shrimp in the wontons before and no where does it say the wontons may contain shrimp. They put SHIMP IN MY WONTONS! It was not a good night. Chicken Satay had a wonderful, peanutty sauce, that is addictive. Large appetizer portion too. The papaya salad came with a wedge of iceberg lettuce (do they even have that in Thailand?) and was rather small, but great flavor. If you like Thai cuisine and you like it hot, but not enough to burn a hole in your wallet, there's a new Thai in town worthy of some dine time. Early last month, Thai Spice Kitchen took over for the defunct Hunt Club Subs N Grill in an outparcel to a small strip center on Bowden Road in front of Mr. Taco. And from this diner's first impressions, their spice is plenty nice. Thai Spice offers table-service lunch and dinner in a dining room boasting 12 tables and a singular menu with a familiar array of soups, salads, meat dishes, noodles and curries (entrees $5.99 to $12.95). If you're looking for clever, Asian-themed decor or even the wall-mounted animal heads from the previous tenant, though, you're out of luck. The new proprietors seem to know their target customer--Southpoint-area office dwellers--and have priced their dishes with lunchtime rates that carry over to dinnertime. Two can easily dine for under $25, including starter, entrees, dessert, beverage (no alcohol is available), tax and gratuity. We began with the Thai Spice Rolls ($4). These thick, fresh-style spring rolls were packed tight with fresh chicken chunks, veggies and vermicelli and are standalone tasty, but even more so with their complementing sweet-chili dipping sauce. They're also gluten-free. We also got a trio of Crispy Rolls ($4 as a starter; one roll included per entrée ordered), which were much thinner, lightly fried and unfortunately for my fiancée, not so free of gluten. Our entrees quickly followed. I sampled the Pad Kee Maow, or drunken noodles, with lightly fried tofu ($5.99; up to $8.95 with other meat or seafood protein choices). What I got was a clearly dinner-sized portion that would set you back up to three times the cost at higher-end Thai eateries. The heat (3-out-of-4 spice) was spot-on; noodles had a fire-engine red complexion and were well-tossed with evenly distributed tofu chunks and a potpourri list of veggies too long to list here. My fiancée's gluten-intolerant palate was not to be denied in the entree lineup. Our Green Curry ($6.99; spice level 1) featured thinly sliced beef and veggies in a flavorful curry broth with a dollop of white rice. It was competent for sure, but it could have used a larger supporting cast of veggies. The Roast Duck Curry ($9; spice level 1) was the clear curry champion at our table, with a generous allowance of largely non-fatty duck slices--a rarity, I've found, with this fowl--co-mingled with potatoes, tomatoes, bell pepper and lime leaves in a spicy red curry base. Thai Spice offers four desserts, from ice cream to sticky rice and a fried banana crispy roll. Our choice, the Custard with Purple Sticky Rice ($4), was a tangy, sweet treat and plenty for two. While you won't find beer, wine or spirits on the premises, Thai Spice blends a big-boy Thai Tea ($3) that's rich, thick and aromatic with milk. You'll also find Thai coffee, hot and iced tea, and Coca-Cola products. Service was warm and unhaltingly prompt for a sparsely populated dining room on a Thursday night. Our server checked in on us several times to gauge our satisfaction. Their takeout service appears robust, with several diners arriving intermittently to retrieve orders. Thai Spice Kitchen brings lots of heat with a pleasant price point and eager-to-please attitude. They should spice up the Southpoint lunch scene and leave plenty left over for dinner. I'm always down for Thai. This place had great food. I got some green curry squid at hot level 4, which wasn't that hot. They could definitely do better there. My girlfriend had chicken pannang curry and that was super tasty. Creamy and wholesome, was kind of jealous. Other than that service was subpar. We didn't ask for too much but we had to kept reminding our waitress that we asked for something. Like I asked for water along with wine. And the check. Table beside me had the same issue. He asked for small plates and spoons two or three times. Food was excellent, would seriously recommend anyone wanting Thai and the price was very reasonable. Thai Spice Kitchen was awesome. It was actually my first experience with Thai food, and if you knew how picky of an eater I used to be you'd realize it is a big deal. It is actually kind or ironic that Thai Spice Kitchen is in the same building Hunt Club Grill used to be in, as their hot fry seasoning was the first 'hot' thing I actually liked, even if in hindsight it really wasn't hot. Thai food certainly is though. Anyway, the aforementioned building on Bowden is nothing much - don't expect the decor of a more upscale Thai restaurant, as instead you will be greeted with a couple of wine related signs that your grandmother probably has hanging in her kitchen. Not that it matters if you aren't paying a ton of money to eat, and you certainly aren't here. I went with my girlfriend and her parents, and between the 4 of us we ordered fried rice, pad thai, two types of curries, roti canai and egg rolls. My order of fried rice was awesome - plenty of meat, lots of egg, and it burned like hell. On a scale of 0-4 I probably shouldn't have started at 3 (as someone new to heat that is) but it was really, really good. At least it was when my water was full. A cold beer to cut the heat would have been awesome, but it was noon on a Monday. The curries were also very good as was the roti, hard to go wrong with those classics and they hit the spot. The service was quick and friendly, which was impressive considering that only two servers were handling the (full) dining room, working the take out counter and taking phone orders. The prices are quite good - I think all of the entrees were way under $10 and the portion sizes would have been perfect for dinner too. I don't work on the Southside but if I did I think I would be there a lot, as what isn't to like about cheap, delicious spicy food. It was 96 degrees out so we downed lots of water and the Thai iced coffee was a first for me. If you're expecting the watery versions from Starbucks or Caribou warn your tongue first. The Thai version is super flavorful with espresso strength taste with the sweet spice of cream and cardamom. Superb! The PAD THAI - which you get to pick your (subjective) spice level was one of the better versions I've ever had. A lot of diced peanuts on the side. My partner and I shared this dish full of stir-fried rice noodles, eggs (lacking), bean sprouts, green onion and shrimp.
