Usually love going here and have a good lunch special but the service was unacceptable today, I got there at 4 and the lunch special ends at 4:30. The hostess was rude and took the menus from our hands stating that the lunch special was over because she was leaving, even though there was no one in there and we could have easily been seated and served in under 30 minutes. Came here during a work trip and got the green curry with tofu. Yeah...normally I'm not a tofu fan, but Thai spoon did it right. Awesome dish. If you dig tofu, get that green curry, your mouth will thank you. Oh it's spicy too read more

The service was good, the food was not. I ordered vegetarian Tom Kha and the waiter got it right, but the kitchen did not. The soup came out with chicken . Also ordered pine apple fried rice that says on the menu it should come with shrimp. The rice was just brought out as fired shrimp. I will not be back and wouldn't really recommend it. read more

Better than Siri Thai, by a bit. The Pad Thai is pretty good, the soups are darned tasty, the duck dish we tried was mighty alrighty. But folks with experience of really good Thai will be underwhelmed, I think. If you're gonna be in Athens for a while, give this place a shot, see what you think. I'll be back once in a while when our trips to Buford Hwy in Atlanta grow too infrequent, but I really really wish we could magically transport a few of those Buford Hwy Asian restaurant gems to Athens. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Athens. I go at least once a week. The food is fresh and delicious, the service is quick and friendly. I do not have a single complaint. I'm new to Athens and I was looking for a few Thai restaurant and I think i found it! The food was AWESOME. I would definitely recommend eating here. I would highly recommend the massaman curry and i forgot what else we got but it had veggies, rice, and your choice of chicken, tofu, steak, and shrimp (it was on the "Lunch Express" menu). Very overpriced, mediocre food, and bad service. My $12 entree came with ~10 small pieces of tofu, no vegetables and a small bowl of cold rice. Boyfriend's noodle dish was large but the pork was very dry. The restaurant was practically empty and it still took forever to be greeted by the waiter, and he forgot my drink. Some kind of insect was hanging out on the wall by our table the whole time. Unattractive atmosphere. Food runner was wearing khaki shorts?? And had to auction off food at the table. I was a regular at Thai Spoon for years before moving away from Athens, averaging at least one trip a week. It was, without question, the Yellow Curry Chicken (medium-hot) that kept me coming back- a great blend of sweet and spicy and my favorite yellow curry ever. Coupled with the Spicy Mushroom Soup, it's a perfectly-sized and perfectly-priced lunch. It was so good, in fact, that I only ate a handful of other dishes (once or twice each) over the course of six years. Of those, the Masuman Curry has a nice mild, peanut flavor. This place has a great vegetarian selection. We go here mainly for lunch. The prices are pretty good and the food comes out quickly for those people who don't have a long lunch break. I frequently order Thai Spoon to go and I have never been disappointed! While I only ever order the chicken pad thai, I am always pleased with the service I experience as well as the taste and portion size of my order. It's the perfect mix of sweet and savory and it's not too oily like pad thai dishes I've had at other restaurants. We have only been once, but it was a great experience. The servers were very nice and the food was excellent. I rarely eat everything on my plate especially if it's spicy, but I cleaned house that night. My husband had the curry and I had the spicy basil special that came with a hot and sour soup that was also amazing. read more

Thai spoon is going downhill. I've eaten there about a dozen times, and quality is most definitely decreasing in several areas. 1. Food is no longer worth the price. I ordered a $12.50 beef curry the other day. There were 4 pieces of beef in it totaling maybe 2-3 ounces. I also received my rice about 10 minutes after I got my curry. That was an isolated incident, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. 2. Their checkout process is a mess. First, The wait staff check out guests as they wait up front, which in my last visit resulting in my waitress not coming by the table for 15 minutes because she was busy checking out a party of 8. Second, their equipment is outdated and desperately needs replacement. A $5 calculator and a very slow mechanical printer make the checkout process take much longer than necessary. The owners of this place need to streamline their checkout process, or it will continue to drive away customers. Thai spoon was my favorite Thai restaurant in downtown Athens, but I think it's time to give Siri Thai a try. read more

I had such a good experience here! The food was delicious and a big portion (they didn't scimp on the meat to the noodles ratio). We also had a great server who was extremely polite (said his name was Lucas). By far the worst service I've had in Athens. Server brought out our drinks then sat with a friend and talked. After 15 min and making eye contact multiple times she finally came back to get our orders. Food came out quickly and tasted good until I found plastic in my noodles. Yet again the server was nowhere to be found. She had not come to our table at all to ask about the food or to refill our drinks in over 35 min and the restaurant was dead. So I asked the host for the manager. He went to the back and apparently found no one. He notified our server, who was again just killing time at one of the booths. The server informs us that the owners are the only managers and they don't spend to much time there. I informed her of the plastic in my noodles and she responded with "That's just the tape they use on the bags of noodles." No apology, no concern just asked if I wanted a new one. It was amazing how clueless/careless she really was. I don't eat tape nor do I want it in my food. The host seemed genuinely concerned but unfortunately he was not our server. What an irritating experience! I hardly ever write reviews because I always like to give a place the benefit of the doubt, especially since I've been a server for 5 years. As a foodie with experience in the industry, I highly recommend dining elsewhere. First of all, the food took forever to get the table. I understand it's a Friday night, but over 20 minutes for the appetizer is ridiculous. For dinner I ordered the Sweet and Sour with tofu and asked our server to make it a little spicy. She suggests a different dish if I want something spicy, and I tell her no, I'd rather stick with the Sweet and Sour since it has pineapple in it, and I love pineapple in my food. The food comes and it's chicken instead of tofu. I alert the manager (or the lady running around in charge) and she tells me it will take too long if I want to change it tofu. Really??? You don't make a mistake and then tell me to suck it up. What if I'm vegetarian? And it doesn't have to take long, it's called "on the fly." You make a dish a priority in the kitchen if it's a mistake. I told her forget it, started eating and realized there's not a single pineapple in my dish. It does have a sweet flavor but no pineapples. Either they forgot the pineapples, or the server failed to alert me there are no actual pineapples in the dish as I was telling her that pineapples were the main reason I was ordering the dish in the first place. As I'm eating, my mouth is completely on fire. I eat A LOT of spicy food and I specifically wanted mild spice today. I tried my friend's dish that he ordered with mild spice to compare. Mine was definitely at least a notch or two spicier after I asked for mild. No one came to the table to check on us and see if we were enjoying everything. The manager lady came by toward the end of our meal and abruptly placed a whole water pitcher in the center of our table. No other tables had water pitchers of their own. This isn't a water-pitcher-on-the-table kind of place. We were simply drinking too much water for her to keep up so she made us do it ourselves. I have never had a good service experience here due to the inattentive wait staff. They will seat you and forget about you. Last time I was here, the table next to me sat without a waiter for a good long while - no drinks or anything - even though one of their staff members was literally standing next to their table at the cash register. My waiter walked by me twice without stopping to ask what I want to drink. Even when he did ask, I waited 10 more minutes for my water to arrive. One couple walked in, wasn't seated for 5+ minutes, and when they finally were seated, no one attended to them. So they walked out. I had to ask for a water refill twice and soy sauce twice. The staff seem nice but they also seem very spacey and have no sense of urgency. The food is always very tasty, but the quality of service is maddening. read more
