However, when we got home and started to eat I notice that there were black spots in the skin of my salad rolls. Further inspection of these spots showed that ants had been rolled up into the food. Finally was able to stop here after months of driving by it. It was a nice summer day. So my friend and I sat outside and enjoyed the weather. The service was quick. Their Thai Tea was awesome, they made little roses with the straw wrappers! The food had the right amount of spice. The pumpkin curry and the drunken noodles were delicious. The decor is eclectic, or confused, depending how generous you're feeling. The service was a bit slow since there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant, which was bustling. I've gone from 3 stars a year ago to 1 star. I've had more bad meals and less than stellar service than I find acceptable at Thai Square. The food is mediocre. We really need a good restaurant in this stretch of Sellwood. I think if you've never had authentic Thai food, you may think it is great. Not the case here. This place is sooo amazing! I'm writing this as I'm eating my left overs from last night's dinner! I love asian food, thai food in particular, and Thai Square is probably some of the best I've had! The food is fantastic, especially the peanut sauce, the service is good and friendly, the prices are reasonable, and it's within walking distance of where I live, bonus! I have only lived in this area for about 3 months and I have already been here at least 5 times! Everyone I have brought with me also loves it! I definitely recommend it and will go again! read more

I don't understand how this place has good reviews. We started with Thai iced tea and Tom Kha. If that had been the end of the meal it would have been 4 stars, both were good. But unfortunately the rest of the food was horrible. It was all ridiculously sweet and not flavorful. The tofu tasted like it was soaked in sugar water and the green papaya salad was watery. The environment was also really really weird. They had a video of a fire projected on their wall like 10 feet tall. The portions are huge for the price so it's a good value. But I found the seasoning, sauces, spices a bit off here on some of the dishes. Went here with a big group of family for Mother's Day. We made a reservation and there was another big group that arrived for their reservation at about the same time. Translation: They knew in advance they were going to be busy! The menu is fine -- a little confusing with items like Thai-ryaki Chicken. If you are a Thai restaurant, stick with Thai food. There are traditionally named items too, thankfully, like Pad See Ew and Thai Curry, etc. Drinks were ordered. Many people at our table got variations on Thai Iced Tea. The beau and I ordered wine. The teas came. Our wine did not arrive until about 15 minutes later. No biggie. We had a tasty bowl of Tom Yum. It comes in a cool silver flaming pot. Intense and good flavors. Success. Appetizers for the table arrived. Calamari (tasted old to me) and salad rolls. THEN all of the dinner entrees arrived, except for ours. We waited. And waited. We watched the waiter/head of house rushing around to take care of, like, 9 tables. We waited. Finally, we reminded him about our meal order. He pretended like everything was fine then ran into the kitchen. Five minutes later, while the rest of our table was half done with their meals, our green papaya salad arrived. It was good, again with intense flavors and good textures. Still waiting for our main entree. Waiting. Waiting. Our family generously offers us bites off their plates. Bite of silver noodles with curry sauce. Yum. Bite of Massman Curry with perfectly cooked potatoes, yes. Waiting. Our crispy salmon with green beans finally arrived; it felt like a decade. Now, to be honest, at this point, I was pretty pissed off. I don't recall any apologies or even an excuse. But I took a few bites of the crispy and well-sauced salmon and garlicky green beans and mm mm GOOD. It's what I wanted it to taste like. But everyone else was done with their dinners. So we packed up our leftovers and ate them the following night (also delicious). 1. You knew were going to have to wait for the papaya and salmon. Fill up our wine glasses! Apologize for the wait. Give us a free dessert. SOMEthing. 2. The front of house (owner?) should know better than to think he can manage a full house (hello, it was a holiday!) on his own. He was overwhelmed and it affected our dinner service. Bring someone else in for the night, even if it reduces your own tips or profits. 3. Dude in the back knows how to cook! Two stars for service. My wife and I are so glad we found this place! The chicken wings are awesome and we both really liked our main dishes too. I got a special curry with crispy chicken and she got the pad khee mao with tofu. First time trying the place and was very pleasantly surprised! This place is fantastic! Very clean and fresh inside, plus the place has its own parking lot which is rare and great in Sellwood. We dined in and ordered their summer rolls (salad rolls) which came with warm peanut sauce and tasted great. Then we ordered chicken pad Thai (delicious) and pad kra prau (wished it had baby corn in it but still very delicious) and pineapple fried rice (which was good but we both liked arawan's better). The first couple of times the food the decent. Third time we got take out and it was terrible. The food looked old, we ordered egg rolls which weren't cooked all the way through, they gave us the wrong entree. It was inedible and we ended up having to throw it all out, or risk eating who knows what. When we contacted the restaurant to rectify it they weren't helpful and dismissed our concerns. Worse service/experience I've had in a long long time at a restaurant ! Ordered chicken Pad Thai, it literally came with 5 maybe 6 pieces of chicken. So I was like "hmm ok, kinda cheap on the meat huh- that's ok". But at least give us a good service, is that too much to ask for ? They basically forced me to give them a bad tip, and God knows I respect people in the food business and that's why I always tip above average. Another thing, giving us the bill when we weren't even done eating. Let the patrons ask for the damn bill, don't just slip it on there while they eat. I didn't even eat half my food, then the lady asked if we wanted boxes- we were like nope. Never coming back here. Probably my favorite thai place yet! We've been there twice and haven't been disappointed yet. The Pad Thai was delicious, but my favorite dish is the Basil Fried Rice. Funny thing is that the waitress tried to talk us out of it initially, directing us instead to the Pineapple Fried Rice, which I'm sure is delicious and probably more popular... but I'm so glad we didn't let her sway us because I can't imagine visiting this place without ordering that Basil Fried Rice... ever! First the good... The food was very tasty. There was a much higher percentage of onions than probably should have been, likely because they're cheaper than other veggies. The bad ... this was our first time visiting so maybe it was an odd night but the service was terrible. The fried rice arrived 10 minutes before the rest of our food. When the rest finally arrived our food was dropped off and then no one asked if we needed anything, came back to ask how the food was, or even came to refill our water. When all three of our waters were completely empty for easily five minutes we had to flag someone down and ask for more water. I could maybe understand if it was busy there but only about 50 to 60% of the tables were filled. The food gets four stars but the service gets none. We might consider giving them another try because the food was good but not anytime soon. Maybe in the winter time when the flies are gone and they get some new help. read more
