I'm sorry, but a simple one item order such as my chicken pad thai cannot be that difficult to pull off, especially when it's obvious the place isn't even busy. Arriving home with my takeout to find out they made a vegan pad thai was quite disappointing, especially since i rarely eat noodles or anything else carby. I tried to make do, but the sauce was way too sweet and without any other flavor than sugar. Boring, bland vegan pad thai is not a satisfying dinner for a cheat meal, as you can probably imagine. Recently had a great dinner at Thai Taste. My wife had Pad Eggplant and all the ingredients were excellent, she loved it. I had Pad See Ew with beef and the flavor was outstanding. We also had the Crispy Pork Eggrolls and they were served soon after ordered and very crispy. The service was quick and just right. The environment was clean and the decor was very pleasant. Any new restaurant that opens up in the Oak Hill area is welcome. Roughly 15 minutes from the house we honestly don't venture over to the "Y" for any type of food except the occasional biscuit fix at Jim's. The wife had heard moderately good things at work about Thai Taste so we rounded up a group from her office staff and went today for an official visit. The restaurant is basically the old bar area of the former tenant Segovia. Fresh paint and a sky light with some Thailand posters added for ambiance or lack there of. We snagged the second biggest table in the place and checked out the menu. Two pages? That's it? Maybe they concentrated the goodness into a few entrees rather than the 5 page novel like our pink favorite just minutes away on Westgate. The spring rolls with shrimp proved noteworthy with a vinaigrette style dipping sauce. Jenny's Massumun curry was sweeter that expected; paired with a nutty flavored brown rice. My Panang curry ordered extra spicy proved sweatworthy with perfectly cooked rice. Each lunch entree came with choice of soup or salad plus an eggroll. This being a welcome Chinese esque twist that you don't find often in Thai places. I liked my coconut soup while the wife found it needing more lemongrass. Some extra points for the Enoki mushrooms in the soup. Service was a bit lacking after the Taste filled up with lunch diners. I served tea to myself and the rest of the table. The verdict goes something like this; it was good splitting my experiences with Madam Mam's and Thai Gourmet by Nong. I won't claim to be some kind of Thai expert; but we were happy with the end result. My thoughts were I've had smoooother Panang from both of my favorites yet it was a nice balance between the two. Its hard not to go to your favorites yet I have to give them some credit for some decent grub at a really good price. Ol' Rooster will be back for a second round at Thai Taste. read more

I pass this place all the time and have been itching to try it! I finally had the chance and was craving Pad Thai so I jumped at the opportunity. I placed an order to go and the food was ready in 15 minutes. I ordered the shrimp Pad Thai, Shrimp Pad Kee Mao, and some wings that's came with a sweet and sour type sauce. Everything was delicious! I gobbled down my Pad Thai and my boyfriend who is somewhat of a skeptical (aka picky) eater really enjoyed his Pad Kee Mao. I tasted some of his meal and thought it was a little spicy, but nothing too overwhelming. The wings were also good, but probably my least favorite of the three dishes I ordered. The sweet and sour sauce was served on the side instead of coating the wings and we just weren't given enough sauce for all five wings in my opinion. I saw some reviews about the poor service, and unfortunately can't speak much to that. We had a pretty smooth experience. We came in, placed our order right away, and it was ready as soon as we returned in 15 minutes. So I will say if the dine-in service is questionable, try takeout! read more

Ate here with some friends a while back and we had a super kind and professional waitress, the restaurant was clean and tidey and the food was excellent. This is my favorite Thai Restaurant in the Austin area. Located in Oak Hill, it is in a spot that is a little hard to get to, due to all of the construction in the area. However, it is well worth trying this one! It is hard to tell from the outside, but inside the restaurant is thoughtfully decorated, has a nice atmosphere, and it is always fresh and clean. I've had lots of dishes here, but a few of my favorites are the fresh Spring Rolls, Fried Egg Rolls, Pad Thai, Pad Eggplant, Red and Green Curries, and the Duck Curry. The service is excellent, and the folks at this restaurant have easily accommodated my daughter's gluten allergy with beautifully seasoned gluten free dishes. Try it, you'll like it! read more

I've been eating here regularly for about as long as they have been open which I think is about 10 years. I have never been disappointed and I find the food to be extremely consistent. I always order dishes with tofu, no meat, so I can't comment on meat dishes. I usually know what I want (and usually craving it) before I get to the restaurant. I don't quite get some of the negative reviews but I have a hunch some people are looking for more upscale dining with atmosphere and perhaps bigger portions. In my opinion the portions are perfectly sized for my needs. I'm satisfied without feeling stuffed. It's down-to-earth, more homey than feeling like a larger and busier chain restaurant. And if you want atmosphere just add a few drops of the fish sauce and Thai birds to your dish and you will be teleported into a world elsewhere! Oak Hill still has a shortage of good local restaurants and I'm thrilled Thai Taste is here. read more

New chef, new management, same amazing staff with updates dishes and ambiance. We loved Thai Taste before but we love it even more now! New appetizers were great - fried tofu and tofu satay were so good the tofu was cooked to perfection. The new pad Thai and pad kee mao retained the best of the old recipe but with new flavors and a fresher taste and presentation. Also loved the new addition to the curries - the pineapple curry was incredible! And lastly we tried the new mango sticky rice for dessert and I am now obsessed with it! Tasty! We have only eaten their takeout. We ordered the Pad Thai tofu, Pad See Ew chicken and yellow curry chicken. It was ready for pickup when they said. I was in and out of the restaurant in less than 5 minutes. We both enjoyed the dishes and would start recommending Thai Taste. One note would be the spice is serious. I usually have medium spice for dishes. Because this was our first time eating here, ordered "little bit of spice" and it was perfect. My husband (who does not like spicy food) thought my dish was a bit too spicy for him. read more

Not the nicest interior. Divey. Sampler app: They forgot the egg roll, so no comment. Spring roll - burnt. Dumpling - gross. Crab Rang Goon - the smallest amount of filling. Chx Satay - dry. Chx wing - edible. The Chicken Pad Thai seemed like a really big portion, but quickly discover it was about 3 pounds of congealed noodles with maybe 3 oz of small, dry chicken bits in it. No flavor. Horrible texture. The Yellow Curry was grey - not kidding! Looked like dirty water. Had very little veg or chicken in it. Was SO SO runny; it was definitely more muddy soup like and was incredibly bland. Seems like their food used be much better and has gone downhill. Wanted to try a new spot - epic fail. Okay so. This won't be your go to Thai place but it's decent enough to hold you while you do find that place. Kind of taste like Panda Express equivalent of Thai food. Quick Tips: Oh em gee, this is the Thai for me! I LOVE when Yelp points me in the direction of a diamond in the rough and the older Yelp reviews aren't exaggerating. Tom Kha soup - deliciousness, Veggie Spring rolls - crispy deliciousness, Red Curry - spicy deliciousness, and Pad Kee Mow - pasta deliciousness. They really hit everything out of the park and very reasonable prices Oh dear, I'm writing this review at 11pm and am now craving Thai food. Ambiance: When I say diamond in the rough, I mean rough which is the ONLY reason I took off a star. Thai Taste is in a strip center. The tiles on the floor are somewhat damaged, but the food is SO GOOD, if you are not looking to impress or for the whole package, and just looking for genuinely good Thai food, you can't go wrong. It's a Sunday evening, and the place is dead. One other table has patrons and every other is empty. I try not to let this be the presumptive start to a poor performance, but the smell in here is so off, that I'm sure it's going to be. I don't know if it's the cleaner they use, or something they cooked, but it smells really badly in here. I want Thai so bad.. I'm gonna sit through it. But bleh. The Tom yum soup is all wrong. Using a common white mushroom, instead of using of straw mushrooms makes this so beyond ordinary. The tomatoes in it are certainly Roma, and odd in this bowl. Chicken is normally diced in small bits and this has large pieces that are blandly white and unappealing. The broth is lacking the spicy kick that Tom yum is known for. Overall, not very Asian.. Perhaps only by name, on the menu. The green curry looks like throw up in a bowl. Asian food is known for using bright colors to offset the base colors. But here.. Everything in my bowl is puke green. Underwhelmed by appearance. And again, let down by taste. The coconut milk sauce is too thin, not savory, and just bland in nature. The spice lacks and it's just not that good. Typically, a curry sauce will be just that, and not a watery mess of soup that I was served. I am surely disappointed. I am considering walking out, leaving everything on my plates, just so I can go to another Thai place who might get it closer to being authentic and right. Could not pay me to return. read more

Discovered this restaurant through Uber Eats. We ordered Chicken Pad See Ew and Thai Basil Fried Rice for delivery. Food was delivered on time as indicated, was packaged and presented well. Portion was as expected. Both dishes were delicious and authentic and really hit the spot. We ate them with homemade side of steamed vegetables to make it a complete dinner. Thank you, Chef! I'm going to go with one of the better tasting Thai places around as far as food. I think the prices are very good, too. And the staff was quite prompt and checked on us often. We had Pad Thai, Fried Rice, Sample Appetizer. The 2 entrees came with the choice of soup or salad, we had Tom Khai. For desert we had the sticky rice with mangos. I was all very good and a total of less than $30. The sticky rice was superb. One of the best I've had in the U.S. I am retired Navy so I've had my share of authentic cuisines. I would rate the place 5 stars but they need to do something with the floor. I felt like I was eating in my garage. This little restaurant was a fun find. Apparently decor is not a must for these folks, but the food was quite good, and generous servings for the price. We had soups that were quite pleasing. Lea had the coconut soup while I enjoyed the lemongrass. We shared, and agreed that they were both quite good. As mentioned by another reviewer, they get extra points for the Enoki mushrooms in the soup.The spring rolls with shrimp were very tasty, served with a vinaigrette style dipping sauce. Each lunch entree is accompanied with your choice of soup or salad plus, an eggroll. Service was a bit lacking, with only one server on the floor.
