I've been roaming through three Ohio counties in search of top notch Thai, and who knew my five star experience would be found across the state line in this unassuming, homey little gem. Dimly lit and quaintly decorated, there are two dining rooms and the word was to sit wherever you like. Beer and wine is on offer (low prices!) so I had a Singha and my husband had merlot. Ice water was provided. We started with the appetizer sampler- stellar crab Rangoon with actual visible crab and scallion in the gooey cream cheese center, very crispy outside. Chicken satay was done perfectly, crisp out and tender in and quite flavorful. The dumplings took first prize, so juicy and packed with filling and flavor. Chicken pad Thai was excellent, very thin noodles and plenty of peanut. Also very satisfied with pork Spicy Basil. Full of flavor. All dishes were beautifully presented on charming dinnerware. We both chose 3/5 spice level, and I would say they used a light hand. Next time I'm kicking it up to level 4. Portions were extremely generous. Leftovers were packaged up for us. Got a Drunken Noodles to go, too. We interacted with a two-person staff, both women sharing serving duty, one as hostess and apparently the other doing the cooking. Both very pleasant and polite and cheerfully answered questions. They do have red curry. There is a rather funny misprint under Curries on the menu, so if you see something about salad with Italian dressing just ignore it! It is accurate on the takeout menu. Seems to me the dining room on the left when you enter will be more comfortable. The main one got a little loud with so much takeout traffic coming in. They do a brisk business with that (great food at very reasonable prices) but give me table service every time. Plus something to go. Will be back soon.

I am glad I finally got to try the food at Thai Thara. It was a couple of hits and misses. First time, I got there, I found out that it was carry out only. The next time, it was already closed (after 8pm, Yelp said they close at 9pm). Good stuffs: - An oasis in Richmond, IN. I believe that this is the only Thai food place in town - Good assortment of choices on menu. - Food was of good enough quality and tasty! - Excellent service. We had to wait a bit longer than anticipated for our food and they threw in a Thai iced tea which was great for our wait. Thai iced tea was legit! Not so good stuffs: - It was not easy finding their menu online. I had to rely on Yelp photos and that takes away from the experience. - The dishes are decent but not quite there. Panang chicken tasted abit peanut butterish and the minced chicken in special was a bit too minced to be eaten. Will come again! But perhaps #3 is too mild for me, might bump up the spice level to #5

The food at this restaurant is outstanding. I had the pa nang curry with chicken at a level 3 spice and it was perfect. I like things moderately spicy. My daughter had drunken noodles and they were the best ones we have EVER had and we eat Asian food regularly. The spring rolls were crispy and delicious. The portions are huge. We could have easily split an entree but it was worth it to get to try the different dishes. The service was fast and friendly. read more

I ordered take-out "3 Flavor Chicken". Service while I waited was excellent; they brought me complimentary water and were good about menu suggestions and spoke English very well. Restaurant was neat and clean. My order was ready in 10 minutes like they said it would be. The food had a nice sweet but spicy flavor and ingredients were good. My husband and I split the entree & rice combo and had plenty to eat. Prices seem reasonable. Looking forward to trying other dishes. read more

Randomly stopped here off the interstate. I ordered the garlic fish and my father got the Pad Thai. Both dishes were served quickly and were both very delicious. The total for our lunches was about $15. The place is clean and worth the stop. I would certainly recommend it to anyone in the area. read more

Found on yelp as I passed through Richmond on a road trip. Delicious lunch at a really reasonable price. Right around $10 with tip. Soup was delicious and while I'm sure the menu had quite a variation of delicious dishes, I went with a standard Chicken Pad Thai, spicy level 4. It was really good but I would definitely be interested in trying a level 5. Will definitely stop again if I'm in the area. read more

I think this is my favorite place in Richmond now. I'm a regular and am greeted with such warmness I honestly feel bad eating anywhere else. I just tried the lettuce wraps and was impressed. They are my go-to appetizer (something i usually dispense with as to enjoy my main course) which means i have leftover red curry now! If they have the coconut sticky rice and mango: order it. I have dreams about that dish. read more

This place is amazing. The food is WONDERFUL! I usually get the lunch pumpkin curry with tofu and have enough for dinner left over. They actually make it spicy (1-5) and I usually get a 4 which is pretty darn hot. The ladies are wonderful and always remember me even if it's been a month or two since my last visit. They are very quick at lunch time (11-1p I think) and I can get in there, order, eat, pay, and leave without rush in 30 minutes. So glad Richmond has Thai this good!!! Better than any Thai I have eaten anywhere else! read more

I love Thai food and am happy that such a place exists in Richmond, but TT leaves me hungry and unimpressed. We had three $10 entree and the portions did NOT meet my expectations. A $10 entree in indiana ought to come with a meager soup or tiny salad if not a spring roll. Rice and noodles are cheap, and therefore should help overcome high meat and exotic veggie costs. Service was given grudgingly the dimly lit atmosphere simply made it uncomfortable. Food was ok. read more

I had the sesame chicken lunch special. It started out with a chicken and pad thai noodle miso soup which was amazing. I got a spice level of 3 for the sesame chicken which was served with white rice and broccoli. The spice is not too hot here, so I could have gone to a 4 or 5 level spice. The chicken quality was great and the rice had a great flavoring. Overall, this is a great stop for some quality thai food! read more

Stopped here traveling home from Ohio. Great food, loved the Spicy Basil. I chose Pork and they were happy to substitute mushrooms for carrots. Very tasty, spice was just right for "medium." Underwhelming on the outside but some of the best Thai food I've eaten! Glad I stopped and will again when I'm in the area. read more

FYI This says they close at 9, so we expected to eat in when we arrived at 8. However, we were told they close at 8:30 and we could only get carry-out. That was a problem since we are from out of town, but we still wanted Thai food, so we ate in our car in the parking lot. read more

We have eaten here several times and the food and service has been great every visit. The heat levels may be a little low, a "3" is pretty spicy and maybe too much for most people. The place isn't fancy but it's clean, the prices are decent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place at all. read more

Ok, I can see some out of towners question my rating of 5 stars. True, it's not the fanciest place - but it's not trying to be either. I had the lunch yellow curry with chicken and a Thai iced tea. The service was fast and friendly. They gave me a water and complimentary cup of house soup as soon as I was seated. The house soup was hot and savory with lots of crunchy bean sprouts and green onions in chicken broth - maybe a hint of cilantro. The yellow curry also arrived quickly and was just the spiciness I expected to get ordering it 3 of 5. The carrots were cut thin but still had a good consistency. It was a very filling portion for one person - I probably could have used a take home box and made another meal of it. The Thai iced tea was served over tiny gas station like crushed ice - almost like a wonderful Thie tea snow cone. I will definitely be back for lunch again when I'm stoping in Richmond. read more

The ladies who work here are so nice and the food is great!! The pineapple fried rice, soy sauce noodles, and red curry are my favorites. The portions are also great for the price. I almost always have enough leftovers for one or two more meals, depending on what I get. read more

If you enjoy Thai food, you'll love Thai Thara. It's a lunchtime favorite of mine. The curries are excellent, and if you eat in, you also get a simple but delicious chicken soup as a starter. Lunch prices are around $7-8, so it's just a little more than fast food and 100 times tastier and healthier! read more

Until Thai Thara my husband and I had never had Thai, now this is our favorite restaurant in town! We eat here at least once a week, sometimes more and have never had a bad meal! The service is fast and friendly; they're so happy to see you, and the food is totally amazing! The panang curry is to die for as is the Pad Thai, but then every other dish we've had there is equally hot, fresh, and full of amazing flavors! The building doesn't look like much but do not let that stop you because you will be missing out on one of the best meals you've ever had! The inside is very clean and, no, there's not a lot of atmosphere but I would take food and service this great ANY day over ambiance! read more

My wife and I have eaten there a dozen times (3 take-out dinners) and the food has been excellent every time. We especially like the curries and my wife appreciates the gluten free options. Best food in Richmond, Indiana in our opinion, and well priced. Easy to get to from I-70. Just come down SR-27. Building is unassuming on the outside. read more

Driving across Eastern Indiana we needed a place to stop for dinner. Found this after reviewing Yelp and our family of 3 was not disappointed. Appetizers, soup, and main courses were all delicious. I've been wanting to try Thai food for a few weeks and finally got my chance for lunch. The food was awesome and I will be going back. I got the tofu pad Thai with a number 2 spice level. At first I didn't think it was going to be very spicy so I was going to try 3 when I go back but the after taste definitely had a small kick to it. The portion was huge for this dish! I brought some home for dinner and got full both times. My mom ordered pineapple tangerine chicken with a number 1 spice level and it was good too. It was served with a mound of steamed rice and a very tasty soup that I forgot to ask the name of. Our meals were $7.25 each. The only reason for the missing 5th star is because they only had one server for both rooms and with being so busy she would forget to bring us things. We weren't asked what we wanted to drink or if we wanted appetizers, didn't get water refills, and every process took a long time. The food was excellent and the people very nice but if they are going to keep up with having a large lunch crowd they need, at the very least, to bring in one more server. I will give it another try when I have more than an hour to wait or go at 11 or 1 instead of the busy 12. read more

Really good food: atmosphere is dismal, no music, super quiet dining room. I recommend ordering food to go. Be sure not to get your hot setting above "2" unless you really enjoy spicy food.. very good food read more

The parking was really easy and up close to the building. It may look like it is closed from the Scatterfield Rd side because the cars are all on the other side of the building facing the strip mall. I will say I will definitely be back and likely get takeout for the hubby and I.

The other elements of the lunch special, the spring roll and the sweet potato roll, were rather mediocre. Overall, the food was not authentic AND did not taste good, so my experience was pretty bad. The only saving grace for this place was the flavor of the fried rice. Food: 1.5/5 Price: 3.5/5 Overall: 2.25/5
