One of the things I miss about living in the city is the plethora of Thai food. There was always "the best" one in every neighborhood, even though I think there's only two levels - pretty good and pretty bad. Nevertheless, it's always tasty and makes me nostalgic about my old seamless addiction. So I'm super psyched that we found Thailand Restaurant near us in the burbs. They have two kinds of tofu (steamed and fried), and can let you customize the level of spice for everything. You can also order off menu if it's a logical combination of ingredients they have. This might be a bit pedantic of me to drop my review down two full stars for a total of 3 stars. But I think 3 stars represents Thailand Rest. The Thai place has highs and lows and is quite often very good and many other times inconsistent and off. I think you have to find for yourself which dishes work for you and which don't. I.E. I think their version of Pad Thai is one of the worst that I've had anywhere including fake Chinese fusion Thai places in NYC. Best Thai in the neighborhood. Definitely hard to get a seat on a Friday or Saturday night. You have to get there before dinner time to get seated in a timely manner or you'll be waiting a little while. Their pad Thai is delicious and so is their Thai ice tea. Ok place.. service isnt too good. A bit rude to be honest. Didnt give water for 10 min or ask anything for 5-10 min after that. When we first arrived, the hotess was like "take out?" We said "no" and she kinda of stared at us & was like "so what do you need..?" Anyway, I got the hot basil sauce with chicken, a little bland. The only ingredients were pretty much peppers, boiled chicken, and onion with sauce. Mom got lo mein noodles, she didnt like it either. Maybe it was the dishes. Been going off and on for about two years since I stumbled across it. I'd agree with the other reviewers that it is a good-to-very good Thai restaurant. However, there is some unevenness in the dishes and IMO they are a bit too heavy on the oils and frying. That said, if you like spicy Thai you really can't go wrong here. Certainly the best in Union County that I know of. It's a converted diner so if you are looking for something intimate this isn't it. FYI: Closed Mondays, BYOB. read more

Apparently they don't honor their posted hours of business. We arrived just before 8pm and their posted closing was 9pm, yet they said "we not seating any more tables." They let us do takeout, but a few minutes later the next victims walked in and were told they could not do takeout. Food was above average but not spectacular. Prices were normal for the area. This is the first Thai restaurant I ever went to, and it remains one of my favorites. I will admit I have only ever gotten the Pad Thai, but it is just so good that I can't bear trying something else. Make sure you let them know how spicy you want it. Even mild is too spicy for me so I ask for no spice. Their Pad Thai comes with shrimp AND chicken which is great, because most places come with one or the other and I have to ask for both (#firstworldproblems). The appetizers I've had are delicious too. I usually go with the Kanom Jeeb or Tofu Tod. The place is small, very hole-in-the-wall, but I've never had to wait more than 10 or 15 minutes. Looks can be very deceiving. From the outside, it appears to be an "abandoned" small diner, but inside one will find glorious thai dishes. I have been here a few times and I have never been disappointed. The service is great. Do try the Thai Iced Tea...it's so refreshing and delicious. Thailand restaurant is a fine restaurant. I've eaten there a handful of times. One drawback is that when you order a dish "hot" it's really not all that spicy compared to some other Thai restaurants. I told the waitress that I wanted my dish as hot as they could make it and she tried to talk me out of it. I got it anyway and out of spite I decided not to drink any of my coke until she came to see that I was done with my meal. The Panang curry is the best thing I've had there. Once or twice the quality of the proteins has been questionable though. They didn't offer to swap the dish with something else either. The decor of the place is cool, the old diner style theme. And the prices are pretty reasonable as well. It's slightly better than some "gourmet" type Thai restaurants in the area. read more

The best thing about this place is the extensive menu. My favorite Thai place (in Colonia) is incredible but the menu is small. When looking to try new things, this is a great place to go. Everything we had was delicious! Salad, soup, and entrees. I love spicy food and they could've kicked it up a notch with my Pad See Ew, but I do understand that waiters often worry about something being too spicy for the customer. My wife and I love this Thai restaurant. The atmosphere is classic NJ diner - not pretentious but clean enough. The food stands out -- the Tom Yum Koong soup is absolutely out of this world. If you order anything but "mild" the waitress will remind you that their food is extremely spicy. We love spicy food so this is always a great choice for us for a quick dinner or Saturday lunch. Amazing. I come here regularly with friends and always have a great experience. We usually start off with some fried rice and the volcano shrimp (I know that's not an appetizer, but it is a smaller dinner item and it is VERY good). The Thai Diner is a local hot spot for Union County. Anybody with a palette for Asian cuisine should consider visiting. Plus, the average price for a meal is easily under 20 dollars which is a formidable price for the area. Although the service at times can be slow, the servers genuinely desire to please. Tom-kha-gai (soup), pad Thai and massaman curry (beef) are my faves and they do them very well. Menu is large but I'm not that adventurous of an eater yet... The food can be super spicy! Just ate at Thailand. Been coming here for years. Always a good choice, just usually I crave Thai on Mondays which is when they're closed. For appetizer I had the curry puff. It's like a baked ravioli filled with potato and spices and served with a vinegary sauce For my lunch course I chose panang fried rice which is something new on their menu (at least I've never seen it). It's rice fried in penang curry sauce, along with green bean, peppers, and egg. Definitely recommended. read more

Secret's been out on this place for a while. I've been going here for many years and it's remained the same quality. Great Thai food in a place disguised as a diner. No place is perfect, so once in a while you'll have a subpar meal but it's usually consistent. If you haven't tried it you're missing out. Poor quality for the price you pay. You're better off going to the Thai spot next door. When I called in the order I was told it would be ready in 10 minutes (pretty quick for a Thai spot). This did not surprise me later as the food was subpar. The veggies were very soft and the rest just lacked flavor. It all just seemed as if the food was prepared in advanced and later just put together, warmed up and packaged for pickup. Definitely one of the better Thai restaurants in the area, I still manage to make it over whenever I'm in town but that's been tough since I moved out of state. The restaurant is located in what used to be an American style diner out of the 50's or 60's but inside, is purely a Thai restaurant. Thailand restaurant makes my favorite version of Pad Kee Mao that I've never seen duplicated anywhere else. The rice noodles end up just a little seared (which is a plus!) but are never mushy and are chalk full of flavor! Not to mention that the chef will make the dish as spicy as you like! One of my best experiences eating was at Thailand restaurant. I was in a rush and had about 25-30 minutes to catch lunch because I was running late for an appointment. I had pretty much resigned myself to being late and I was starving so I stopped by. Man, I've been eating a lot of Thai Food lately! Thailand Restaurant is a small "diner" looking restaurant on busy Central Avenue. I usually come here if I'm in the area or craving Thai Food. The inside restaurant has a diner feel to it, with a Thai touch. The bathroom was cold, but clean. I never have to wait too long for my food if I'm dining out. To be honest, it's not my favorite place. Their pad thai is greasy and isn't anything special. I do like their appetizers; the curry puffs were pretty good. This is a great little hidden thai food place in this area. This place used to be a dinner & got converted over to the Thailand restaurant. I have eaten here few times during lunch hours-- and they have authentic, delicious, and great thai food at reasonable price. Pad- thai with chicken is my favorite dish here --- and all of their curry are amazing. Just be mindful when they ask you if you want the dish to be mild, spicy or HOT. Their defination of mild is what rest of us would consider spicy-- they do have no spice option for any dish on their menu. The room/place inside is very small, they have plenty of parking & and it is easy to get to-- I would recommend this place to everyone who is fan of thai food OR want to try great thai food. My husband and I were briefly in New Jersey for a wedding and had dinner here one night after looking for local restaurants on Yelp (of course). It wasn't really anything special, but considering the night before we had lukewarm, stale burgers for dinner at midnight at some Burger King in a random rest stop, this was definitely a step up. Our GPS had a little trouble locating it, but once we found it, parking was fairly easy. We were seated quickly and the service staff were all quite pleasant. However, we immediately felt left out because it seemed like every single other table had a bottle of wine on it - is bringing your own bottle of wine to a restaurant some weird east coast/New Jersey practice? You guys are weird. My Massaman curry was a bit watery but generally tasty, though I've definitely had better. I asked for it "Medium" even though I generally like food quite spicy - I didn't want to be too ambitious because of what I read here. I would say that it definitely had a nice kick to it, but other "zomg this is the spiciest food EVER" reviews are a little over-enthusiastic. It looked like they grow their own chiles in front of the restaurant, but maybe that's just decoration. In any case, the biggest problem I had with the spiciness is that it was very short-lived. It started out nice and warm, but by the third or fourth chew, the heat dwindled to just lukewarm. I would prefer a little staying power. My husband's pad thai was quite sweet and a little bit soggy. Thai restaurants tend to cater to western taste buds... unfortunate. The sogginess was just weird, like they didn't quite know how to cook noodles for frying rather than soup. If I lived in Clark rather than on the other side of the country, I would consider coming back to try some of their other dishes. At this point, though, it's looking like a one-night stand. I love the ambience here! The restaurant felt almost like you're in train cart or in an old-school diner. It was very cozy! The food was absolutely delicious, and the prices were amazing. I have had better Thai food elsewhere and way better service elsewhere. I have some really close Thai friends and have been to Thailand twice. What I love the most about Thai people is their politeness. You don't get that in this restaurant. I was there on a Tuesday night, it wasn't a busy night with about 5 tables occupied. The waitresses were chatting among themselves loudly. I sat all the way at the end of the restaurant, but it was still too loud for me. They were to busy chatting that when we wanted to order additional dishes, they didn't realize until we have been waving at them for 5 minutes. The food is not bad. We ordered curry fried rice with Chicken which was tasty. And Basil Beef, which tasted good as well. Tom Yum Goong tasted soso, not outstanding. I went home feeling very thirsty all night but that what restaurant food give you. I may not return to the restaurant again, unless I am meeting up with a friend. read more

A great nice little spot. I never get anything here besides the Pad Thai, but it's awesome Pad Thai. I have gotten the Spring Roll Appetizers as well as the Calamari. They are all very good. My girlfriend has gotten the shrimp, which she always enjoys. The service is good. The first time I came here, they seemed a bit annoyed but then again we did go in when it was close to closing time.
