I had the most positive experience at Thairapy! From beginning to end I loved this place. First of all, Linda at the front desk made me feel comfortable and welcome right from the start. She got me a delicious beverage of my choice. Next up waxing... Mandy was very professional and did a beautiful job with my lip and eyebrow wax. Minimal pain but maybe that was because she was fun to talk to and I didn't pay attention to the pain! Main course...haircut with Laura. I received a relaxing shampoo and head massage to start with Denise. Then, Laura discussed haircut options with me and really listened to my needs (trendy but easy to manage cut). I really liked that she made a plan for my hair. We talked about potentially working with the color of my hair in the future including tackling some sprouting gray hairs (yikes) and adding some highlights to give my hair dimension. Then she styled my hair with some beautiful beach waves so I was all set for a party that I was going to that night. Laura gave me one of the best haircuts that I have had in years. I received tons of compliments this week which meant so much as a new mom not feeling so cute lately. I will definitely be returning to Thairapy. Next time I will try a facial with Mandy! read more

I switched to Thairapy in December after using one stylist for 2 years. I am overly joyed that I made the switch! The first time I walked in the door I was amazed at the warm greeting I received by Glenda. She took me on a tour, offered me a glass of wine, and frequently checked on me until my stylist was ready. My stylist, Jaime, was delightful. She has soon become one of those "stylists" that I can share anything. She listens to exactly what I want with my hair and takes her time. She never rushes and makes sure that I am completely satisfied before I leave the salon. All of the stylists, nail techs, etc make you feel important and give you that special treatment that you want when you go to a salon! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a new salon that has a home away from home feel! read more

I had my most expensive hair cut here. Thought I give it a try so I did and nothing special about this place just super charges you for a regular hair cut you can get anywhere. I would go back to the Gallery of Hair and their price haven't change much for the last years and I always loved the cut! You can get a professional stylist for the same price. Will select a different high end place next time. read more

Thairapy Plus helped me find my inner goddess again! I've been going here for nearly 5 years; introduced through a friend and have been thrilled with the results every time. In fact, I sent Rebbecca and Glenda and members of their staff a thank you card for providing an excellent level of service and for making me feel so special around my birthday! Carmen is an excellent nail technician - by far, the best I have ever experienced! Seriously, my hands and feet have never looked better -- even through these later winter weeks. Now when my sister is in town, she's making a visit to Carmen too! Paul is my stylist/colorist and he really gets me. I have hair color that compliments my skin tone (which is what I was looking to achieve). Since going to Paul, I have more compliments on my hair color than I can ever remember! I am curly in wet weather/humidity and straight/heat styling in dry weather. Paul helped me learn how to style my locks (no matter the weather) and is really great to consult with about style/color changes and protecting my thin, fragile hair. Diana is a another wonderful stylist who I recently talked with to learn more about extensions...and what's really involved in the process and the $. She is so knowledgeable and gave a fantastic overview about it all. Tamara recently provided waxing services, and cleaned up my eye brows and I was totally happy with the result. And as a BIG bonus, Emily provides jewelry services and design onsite. Love this! All those things that sat in my drawer, she has helped me to wear again...watches, earrings, bracelets, and she even fixed-up my 18-year old engagement ring. I love this place in our neighborhood - it's immaculate, it's fun, it's friendly, it's walking distance from my home, and they really care about making it a great experience every time I go. I've been here twice and had a good experience both times. I'm only giving 4 stars because I can't afford to go back any time soon. If Thairapy was a little cheaper, it would get 5 stars from me. But it's actually pretty typical pricing for a nice salon (I'm just poor). The owners were there when I visited, and were incredibly nice. The girl who cut my hair was chatty without being annoying, and even sent me a follow-up email to be sure I still liked my 'do. I don't normally write reviews, but in this case I'm making an exception... I first came to Thairapy ~5 years ago when I moved to the neighborhood and needed a new stylist. I had gotten a card at a street fair in Lincoln Square, and called on a Saturday - and got an appointment the same day. Thought it might be too good to be true, but I quickly found that this was a place that knew their stuff - and have spent many weekends there since. The service... everyone knows you when you walk in. Even on my first appointment, Glenda (who was working reception at the time) remembered that she had met me at a street fair almost a year earlier - this place cares for their neighborhood and their customers. They always greet you when you walk in the door... always take your coat, or offer you a drink or a snack. At one point - they even bought me breakfast :). After so long - I've tried every service at least once - and even outlasted some of the staff (though I've always been pleased with how they've transitioned, when they need to - always up front, and they pick good folks!) :). I have never had a bad haircut or service from Thairapy - never. They are clean, on time, and every technician / stylist / person who I've encountered there is great at - and loves - their job. Carmen is the only one in the city I let touch my nails (though if Kate came back, I'd accept her too :)) - she is absolutely meticulous, but gives me props if I take good care of them between appointments. Kerry takes awesome care of my hair - I trust her implicitly (seriously... I just let her pick a color every time I come in... have had 8 different combinations so far and all have worked), and she puts up with my dual personality with my hair (short... no long... no short... no somewhere in between) and is always willing to talk through a new idea. Tamara always does a great job with facials and waxing, and is good to talk through life advice. too. Emily never fails to fix whatever jewelry I've broken, and helps me figure out how to best source my own projects too when I need it. And cannot forget Glenda and Rebecca who are always there with a kind word or a drink (or both). I have high standards for any local businesses I support - and these guys tick off every box. What can I say other than this is hands down the best place in town!!!! I called last minute desperate for a cut and they were more than accommodating and set me up with Paul. From the minute I set foot in this immaculate and beautifully appointed salon I knew I had found my new place! Having celiac I have to have gluten and wheat free products- they let me bring my own in and were so attentive to my allergy needs- offering to research products for me! This never happens at other salons! As it turns out they carry Sebastian - and the ENTIRE LINE IS GLUTEN FREE!!!! For my cut - Paul was dead on as to how my hair should be cut and did the most beautiful job!!! My fine hair looks so full and stylish! I can honestly say this cut is the best I have ever had!!!! This review is long overdue. I have been going here since I moved to Chicago 2 years ago, and I will miss this place terribly when I move to Florida at the end of the month. I have gotten haircuts, massages, manicures, and pedicures here, and have always been pleased with the results. So much so, that I have even brought out of town guests here with me. Ranks as the worst environment for getting a manicure & pedicure I've had in a long time. With the downtown prices they charge you should be getting more! First off - no sanitizing of instruments,spraying them with alcohol does not mean they're sanitized. Than to add insult to injury I had to put on a pair of flip flops that looked like someone took a bite of, are they too cheap to buy disposable ? No heat lamps or fans to speed up the drying process. While I was offered something to drink this was nothing out of the ordinary .During my manicure I did not get my hands or legs massaged, nor did I get lotion on my hands at any time during the manicure ! No hot towels, the list goes on and on. I've paid less at a big name salon downtown and got more bang for my buck. Carmen was an excellent technician, too bad she has to work in such deplorable conditions. Stuck in a corner in the back of the salon, and I use that term lightly. They will never see me again and I have told all my friends and will tell anyone who asks me about neighborhood places for manicures. I volunteer for a very large neighborhood civic committee as a board member and have spread the word. THAIRAPY NEEDS TO TAKE A BETTER LOOK AT THEMSLEVES - they are not a spa! read more

I just moved to Lincoln Square and was nervous when looking for a new place to get my hair cut. The price was similar to what I paid at Rocco & Rocco in Downers Grove. When I was greeted I was offered my choice of coffee, tea, water or wine. Diana Burke was my stylist and she took great care with my short men's haircut. I was given referral cards for $10 off for new customers and a full list of prices. I'm a publicist so I pay close attention to customer service and marketing. I visited last night for the first time for an eyebrow wax as my usual provider was unavailable and I didn't want a unibrow for the upcoming weekend. I should have trusted my instincts and turned around because when I walked in the place smelled like people were smoking cigs in the back. Anyway, I had my eyebrows waxed and the girl was very nice but my eyebrows looked awful last night and still do today. (I was hoping that I'd wake up to something other than what I saw last night). One is blatantly shorter and thinner than the other, like half of it is cut off? I seriously don't understand how hard it is to evenly wax eyebrows? I made it perfectly clear that I liked the shape and just wanted a "clean up". Also, I think its entertaining that this said girl asked, "Where did you go last time, there seems to be a thin spot in one brow?". I'd rather a "thin spot" (that I personally didn't notice) than half an eyebrow. I'm still annoyed. read more

I was referred to Thairapy by a friend who mentioned they give free haircuts when you are donating your hair. I was nervous to go to a brand new place, especially when 11+ inches of my hair were being lobbed off! From the second I walked into Thairapy to the second I left it was as if I was the only client there -- and it was a fairly busy Friday afternoon. I was greeted by one of the owners, Glenda, who gave me a tour of the salon/spa while I waited, was given coffee, and everyone there had a smile on their face -- what positive energy! Barbie gave me my haircut and was professional and informative the whole way through. I had a massage after the cut and the other owner, Rebecca, made sure to re-style my hair before I left since it got a little messy from the massage. OK... so on Wednesday I got off of work at 1 and I really wanted to get a pedicure so I looked on yelp to see what places where nearby and there were a few but this place had really good reviews, so I thought to myself if I go and they have opening for a pedicure then perfect and they did. So while getting ready for the pedicure I asked if they also had any openings for a haircut and Diana was there and she said that she would be able to so I was happy. I had a nice and relaxing french pedicure with Carmen (who was very nice)- she did a great job! After that it was on to my haircut with Diana- while she was cutting I was mentioning how I always wanted to try lowlights and she was like lets do it then! She was able to fit me in her schedule right then and I felt bad cause she had to redry my hair in order to put the dye in but she didnt seem to mind. My lowlights and haircut turned out great- Diana was so fun and very helpful with suggesting what she thought would work out and it did!!! Yes it is expensive but I do believe that you get what you pay for. I normally go to Art & Science but I must say that Diana has won me over...for sure I will go again. read more

I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to sing the praises of Chris O'Brien at Thairapy! After a really stressful week at work I was in a lot of pain from the huge knots between my shoulder blades. It was so bad that the pain was radiating through my arm. In desperate need of a massage, I found Thairapy on yelp and decided to give it a try. Chris was able to fit me in and I'm glad he did. I have had a lot of experience getting massages and I think this was the best deep tissue massage I've ever had! I left feeling a little beat up (as you should from a deep tissue) and completely relaxed. The salon was buzzing with people so I was a little worried that it would be loud in the massage room; but it was as tranquil as could be. Chris was very professional and knowledgeable about how to fix my poor shoulder. Even though he was working on some very painful knots the massage was incredibly relaxing. It was worth every penny. I had an absolute amazing experience at Thairapy two weeks ago. I walked in without setting an appointment for a haircut. I had a photo shoot that same day (I procrasinated on getting the cut done) and they didn't have an open appointment until after my shoot. I explained that I needed a cut right away because of the shoot. The front desk lady told me to hold on and she walked out the door, bringing back the owner of the salon to cut my hair! I was shocked that a place cared about my business so much to go and get the owner who wasn't even at the salon! She was extremely nice to me and introduced me to her whole staff. Being a business owner myself we had lots to talk about (even though the haircut didn't take very long I hung out with them for almost an hour and a half!). I got the 5 star treatment. Have been going to Thairapy for several years now. Kerry cuts my hair, and she is absolutely wonderful. She is very talented and extremely thorough. I had some issues with breakage over the last few years, and she painstakingly went through my hair looking for split ends that were hiding. I could not ask for better service. She is very knowledgeable and honest. She is not afraid to give me her expert opinion...which always ends up being the right way to go. When Kerry was out on maternity leave, I saw Diana, who did a fab job too. Equally as talented! It's always nice to kick back at this place. You always feel great when you leave! read more
