Started a new internet subscription and was pleased to see a lot of choices to make. We were given a two hour window of arrival for the technicians. I liked that they texted their progress to our place so we had a little heads up on when they would arrive. Had a technician and a trainee show up. Both were very respectful and friendly. They told us what they were doing and kept us informed of their progress. Was surprised at the newer styled modem and router, which is now one box instead of the usual two. Wi-Fi was set up quickly and seems to be working well. read more

I was a customer of xfinity for 1 year before swapping to TVC. I remained a customer until I left the area after 3 years. I'll do my best to debunk a lot of people's gripes. Note, I only had the 300mbps internet plan so I can't speak to cable or phone. 1) Speeds: Like all service providers they advertise speeds UP TO whatever your plan is. This means that there are factors out of their control. For instance in my apartment complex in Groton my apartment was located on the opposite end of the building from the cable input room so I would see signal loss during peak hours and could never reach the 300mbps even during off hours. This happened with xfinity as well. TVC was quick in detecting these issues and did do some patchwork in the cable feed room to get me a slightly better signal boost. 2) Field Support: I'll say the technicians are knowledgeable and appreciate when you have an understanding of what you're dealing with. The 3 instances I dealt with them, install, signal strength, and interment loss of signal they were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Quick to diagnose and fix my problems. The key was I did do all the over the phone support you should typically do before requesting a technician. 3) Customer Service: Their customer service, both on the phone and in person are very good. In person you'll even get a few laughs as long as you aren't guns blazing when you get there. Ultimately they want your continued patronage so they'll do everything they can to accommodate you within reason. 4) Price-point: While they might not be the cheapest (they are as far as I know for the area) they are a no gimmick provider. What they advertise as price is what you're paying. There are no price hikes or promotional pricing that expires. I payed the same bill for 3 years. In fact when I started I only had a 100mbps plan and that was the most they provided. I got a free upgrade to 300mbps when that plan became available and my bill month to month was unaffected. 5) Nerd Stuff: I saw a complaint about internet protocol 4 vs 6. For reference, the every day user is unaffected by this. In fact no other provider in the Groton stonington area uses ipv6. Most national brands do not even use 6. This is a new technology slowly being rolled out. If you expect 6 out of a local company that's more on you for not asking up front. Overall TVC is a good company but before you request and sign into their service, do a little research and be an intelligent consumer. read more

Having been frustrated with several attempts to set up auto-pay for my centenarian mother, I hit the jackpot when Potreen answered my call with less than a five minute wait. She handled the logistics of the issue real-time and had the problem solved in a matter of moments. What a professional woman! read more

Additional update: My line has been damaged for like 2 years and TVC has never come out to fix it. I submitted support tickets like 3 times I believe, and still nothing. When I call in to get service, sometimes I wait for 30+ minutes even though I am first in line, and there will be weird screeching static and scratching noises while waiting on the line, almost like they are just trying to get you to hang up. read more

The is the worst cable company on the planet. Their customer service along with their service is subpar. Their "on demand" selection will make you think you were in the '80s or '90s. We pay the same compare with Comcast and we can't even use our subscriptions online, ie. HBO Go. If you are thinking of moving in this area, your first question should be, "who is your cable tv provider?" If its TVC...then don't rent/buy the house. Stay away. read more

After 3 separate trips back and forth over a period of 3 weeks and asking countless times How MUCH a cable card will cost per month (they said 5.50) and spending over an hour there today--when they asked for payment up front I was happy to pay 5.50--except they said it would be $16.30 ...What?!? (my HOA provides cable free as part of my $300 monthly fee) Then, their card doesn't work.... Their customer service team wants me to subscribe to their Internet as my Service Provider...I looked at them, like I did not understand the words coming out of their mouths----They must really take US all for fools--Do they REALly believe that they can nickle and dime us into an early grave, and that they really are our beneficiaries???? I want to start off with I believe in giving everyone a chance, like maybe for my place it will be different than others with problems. I WAS SORELY MISTAKEN. I have had technicians at my house twice with the only way possible for me to reach 150 mbps is when the tech did a speed test through thame's speed test site. On a hardwired connection, the best speeds I can see are 60ish mbps when I pay for up to 300 mbps. How is that acceptable in any way? It takes me over 3 hours to download 32 gigs worth of data. At this point the only reason I have this internet is because there isnt a better provider for this area which is why I assume you are still in business. I will get my money's worth even if that means having a technician out here every day because I'm not getting the correct speed. Guess I'm paying for your gas. read more

Horrible! I have never experienced such bad service even when the internet first came out and it kicked you off every time some called. The internet constantly goes out, when you try to call to get issues resolved they hang up on you. The company doesn't value its customers and cares less if you have a problem. We had Thames Valley for 2.5 years. It just recently went from being owned by the city of Groton to being privately owned. Customer service is now horrible. We called and cancelled and they could care less why we were cancelling. Trust me...if you are in this area... GO WITH COMCAST! I have used TVC for over a year for cable service and have had a very good experience with it. When there have been issues, they were very helpful. As a result, I decided to try their TV service it was cheaper than Directv which I have had for many years. BIG MISTAKE!!! We asked for a comparable service to Directv. What we got was a cable run directly to our TV, no receiver, and a picture that reminded me of when I was a child watching a snowy picture on a TV with a "rabbit ears" antenna. I called customer service to cancel the service. The representative was rude beyond description. He accused me of not calling in to tell them I was unhappy with the service. When I noted that I did in fact call over the weekend, he replied "you got our answering service, that doesn't count!" He passed me along to another agent who was actually friendly. Unfortunately he determined that the original guy was going have to help me, and that there were no supervisor level people around to assist me. I decided I would rather go back to Directv than deal with the jerk again. I also did not want to pay an additional fee to try to get a reasonable picture and a receiver. Of note I was told that installation fees are never refundable even if it results in an unacceptable picture. Stay away from this company for TV service. They are clearly not ready for Prime Time and customer service is an absolute joke. Unfortunately It cost me $$ to find this out. UPDATE 4/27/2016 They are now trying to charge $200 for the service I never got. I called back and asked to be connected with a supervisor. Who answers? The same jerk I dealt with before! Again, he was rude beyond belief. He said that he might be able to take off $10. I asked if he thought I should go with Comcast TV and Internet, he responded "BE MY GUEST!" I guess they have too many customers and are trying send some to their competition. STAY AWAY. TWC sets a new std for poor customer service. Update 10/1/2017. Called to report very slow upload speeds. They checked the connection and confirmed that there is a problem that a service tech will need to deal with. I have recently switched over from Comcast/Xfinity (whatever they are calling themselves) to Thames Valley Communications !!!!! I'm so glad I made the switch!!!! It's like night and day First of all, the word communication is a wonderful part of this company's name they do exactly that Communicate so unlike Comcast where you spend most of your phone time with that ANNOYING robo woman !!!!Thames Valley actually talk with you from jump street and in a calm friendly manner. Had the difficult task this morning of calling the electric company and TVC to cancel service for my recently deceased son. The power company representative expressed condolences, googled the obituary, and assured me that she would take care of the cancellation within two days. The TVC rep simply stated that I would have to bring a copy of the obituary into the office. No condolences, no alternative to driving for an hour to deliver documentation that the rep could have obtained easily herself. No option to email or text a copy of the obituary. I guess I should be grateful that I don't live farther away. read more

Thames valley is the right choice for the area. I first tried to go with Comcast (which was dumb of me because I was aware of their horrible customer service and data throttling) but their tech did not show up and their customer service reps were rude and hung up on me TWICE! Took their equipment out and called Thames valley. Their customer service was excellent and the technician showed up at my house during a snow storm when everything else in the area was shut down due to the weather. The tech was helpful and very nice. The Internet is as advertised and also cheaper than Comcast. This is the right decision. read more

Mr. Pearson if I could give you guys 0 stars I would. I was paying for 300 MBs internet and would never get anywhere close to that 75 MBs was the highest. I called the help desk countless times they were no help they would tell me that my computer couldn't handle speeds over 75 which is a lie because I have a very expensive set up. They would send technicians out and it would work for a hour after they left then back to lag spikes and slow internet again. After months of complaining I was emailing Rex and he would just tell me to contact the help desk n send someone over l. After 3 months of dealing with all this Rex just stopped replying and never solved the issue. I left tvc and went to comcast and I've never had a problem since. I would not recommend anyone to tvc after the way Rex handled this situation. read more

24hrs with this company and I'm on the brink of canceling. We paid for the top tier internet package (300MB) which is twice that of the xfinity speeds we were getting. After install, I couldn't be more disappointed. We can hardly use the internet at all and as a gamer, this is simply unacceptable. 5MB download speeds is the norm. 3000+ ping. I have no problem adjusting this review if this is resolved timely. Having limited hours for customer service is also a downside I've quickly noticed. read more

The cable guy almost scratched my new HDTV. He also went into my bedroom without asking, carelessly moved my jewelry box and moved my entire dresser without asking. I would not recommend TVC. I had recurring problems with my cable service - the On Demand frequently had picture but no sound, channels I know were included in my package would sporadically say they aren't authorized, and there are no primetime shows available on demand. Then the box stopped working via HDMI connection to my TV all together. I was extremely dissatisfied by TVC's customer service. I received a guide when I started with them stating they have 24 hr customer support -- not true. They are not open for any reasonable hours to assist someone who works during the day. If you call after hours someone does answer the phone, but cannot provide any technical support and just tells you someone will call the next day. Then no one calls you. I've had this experience twice. In addition, they've increased the fees multiple times since I started my service a year ago. After replacing my HDMI cable, having TVC send reset signals, and troubleshooting the HDMI ports on my TV with another device (all of them worked fine), I returned my box for a new one. The next box also didn't work, and when I called to get technical support they said that box wasn't communicating with them on their end at all and was likely faulty. The individual I spoke to said "I am here until 7pm if you would like to exchange your box again." I arrived at 6pm to a closed, locked, dark office. Now, apparently she meant that the technical support was reachable by phone until 7pm, but this was really the last straw for me. I set up for Comcast to come that night. I'm still not sure what the technical problem I had was a result of, but I will say that my Comcast box works perfectly with the same TV and same HDMI cable that I had so many issues with with TVC. I decided to get Comcast because of how difficult TVC made this whole process. Finally, when I called to request a statement credit because I was paying for cable I wasn't receiving, they claimed they couldn't help me because their records show I had never called the help desk, which certainly wasn't true. Then, despite my objections that I wasn't trying to trouble shoot my device the customer service individual transferred me to the help desk, cutting me off mid sentence. I waited on hold for ten minutes until the help desk answered. The help desk told me that they had record of me calling several times the previous day. They transferred me back to customer service, where I told the agent that I had spoke with the help desk and they could see that I had called in the past. He said "I'm not sure what they're looking at," and was pretty rude to me in general, talking down to me and saying he doubted their service was the problem and perhaps it was a problem with my TV, despite him knowing nothing about the issues I had been having or the troubleshooting I had already done. Ultimately, I had a technical issue that probably could have been fixed, but it was difficult for me to even get a hold of technical support, the customer service agent was rude, and that is what ultimately drove me away. Overall, mediocre product quality, poor technical support, poor customer service. Comcast is a superior product, and sure they have a bad reputation for customer service but at the very least can assist you via the phone 24 hrs a day. read more

Charged me incorrectly! When I moved away from CT, I canceled my Thames Valley Communications account and RETURNED THE MODEM TO THEIR OFFICE. However, they lost the paperwork indicating that I returned it and they incessantly charged me for the modem even after I explained that I had returned it and spoke with several representatives. Horrible! Worst cable company I've ever had! First of all they have absolutely NO respect for military members! My husband was deployed and was unable to pay the bill. They cut off the cable and when he called to pay it when he returned home they had him pay for the month he missed but they also had him pay for a month in advance as well plus late fees and after he had already done so they told him they would not turn the cable back on unless he paid $300 for deposits to turn it back on, to re rent the equipment we already had and another deposit. So basically they had him pay for a month that they would not give him unless he paid the $300 . He explained to them that he was deployed and they simply did not care and told him if he refused to pay the $300 on top of Everything they were going to bill him $125 for cancelation. So not only do they screw over military members fighting for our freedom but they are also a horrible company just based on the cable and internet itself! I had to return 2 boxes because they were broken, the internet only works when it feels like it and the picture is absolutely horrible. Compared to xfininity TVC is completely outdated. If you live in military housing do not feel obligated to use this company, Dish is also allowed and they are much cheaper with a lot more to offer!! read more

SO over Thames Valley Communications, they have awful customer service. We have had several problems with both internet and cable, it was getting ridiculous. They took money off our bill since we had to change our boxes for the WIFI and for the cable 2 times also because we didn't was WIFI for four days. But then about a month later we started having problems again, I called and spoke with Bob. He was so rude and didn't care about what was going on. He told me that we saw nothing on the notes about us having a problem in December, I told him that they took money off our bill because of it. So he could go look at that, he was very demeaning to me. Bob then told me that many people where having a problems because of the weather, I told him that this has been happening for a month and the weather has changed in a month. He then went on to tell me that it was a "FACT" I can believe him or not, at this point his awful attitude is making me want to leave and go to another company. He was so rude, I was shocked that he even worked there speaking to customer like that. I have worked in the costumer service industry for the fast 7 years, I know if I spoke to a guest like that I would be out of a job. Matt came out two days later to give us two new boxes, he was GREAT! He was truthful and came with new boxes. You need more people like Matt, he is going to keep you business open a lot longer then Bob will. read more

Company will not answer the phone or messages. Dvr won't work properly and the internet has not worked in over a month. Tech was supposed to show up between 2:30-4:30 and did not at all. When called back to find out why, no answer, had to leave a message (not expecting a response). This message is written in short hand due to having to use my phone to write it due to lack of intent. read more

This service is total garbage. If possible avoid it. I switched thinking I was going to save some money. Nothing but regrets. Lost phone & internet several times, DVR was garbage kept turning off and rebooting over and over. I called and complained and they tried to charge me $50 to fix their Equipment. Then they replaced the DVR but with someone else's defunct returned device. It was 99% full of recorded shows that needed to be all deleted. Turns out the reason it was returned was no doubt because it is so loud you cant even hear the TV over it. More garbage. You call and complain and if you are lucky enough to get passed the phone message automation and reach a live person they run you around in circles and make you wish you never called. They say seriously fast internet. I say there is nothing serious about this company. Now I fully understand why they charge you upfront for the installation and first month service.
