One of the best box gyms I have been to. The workouts are challenging and efficient. The workout is also structured in a way that it hits most muscle groups. There is a good sense of community. The instructors are great as well. They provide towels. This gym is great for weight loss but not great for bulking. It's heavy on cardio and high rep weight lifting. read more

We stumbled upon this place with their 1st class free (you can book through mindbody)! They offer a $99 one month unlimited trial so we signed up for it. The place is spacious compared to other workout studios I've been to in the area. The format is mainly 5 stations with an A & B exercise. You can start at any of the 5 stations & you'll do sets of the A workout followed by the B workout or vice versa. Monday/Wednesday is upper body Tuesday is lower body Thursday is glutes and abs Friday through the weekend is full body (this location isn't open Sunday so you'll have to hit up their other location) We've been going to the evening classes which are taught by Meghan. Who I'd say is one of our favorite instructors (we've been to two other instructor's classes). She's good with explaining and keeping time. She's also a good balance of being a cheerleader/"woo girl" or coming over when you're butchering the exercise! Be prepared to say hello & give your workout buddies high fives! read more

My coworker gave me a free month here for Christmas and I am forever thankful. Coming here whipped my post pregnancy body back into shape. I love how friendly all the staff and trainers are, this is a judgement free zone! Jessica and Krista are so delightful to see when checking in. Nichole is my favorite trainer, even in a large class, she sees everyone and really focuses on good form. Alex is a great trainer too, but there's lots of cardio involved in his classes. I loved all the workouts here, I was coming everyday and on weekends did double days. I lost 15lbs over the course of 3 months. The facilities are always clean. Pre-covid, they provided towels, mouthwash, hair ties, lotion, etc. I can't wait till this covid thing is over so I can resume my workouts here. read more

Hmm interesting gym/group workout class. Walked in and the girl at the front check in didn't even greet or acknowledge me. I had to flounder then ask to join the class. She proceeded to ask for my name then check me in and continue to provide absolutely no value. I paused hoping she would actually offer to help or question the confusion. I stated that it was my first time here and if she could kindly point me to where the class was (it's behind some double doors) rocky start NBD. Unfortunately, this apathy continued with the instructor ... very LOW energy, not engaging, etc. was the most low energy environment I've ever experienced in a group workout session. This is a very personal review of The 12 - Irvine Mesa location.... It has been 5 years this month (since March 2016) to when I decided to change the direction of my health. I was 198 lbs and teetering towards the two century mark. For my height and age, it was nothing but all bad! In the timeframe that I have been going to The 12, I've made personal gains that I'm incredibly proud of.... With the guidance of all my trainers: Nichole, Uli, Eunice, Brooke, Dana, & Jared, I have maintained a healthier weight and learned to eat better. I have also made some great friendships. I'm normally someone who's fairly introverted, but it's impossible to not engage with the positivity this gym creates. Egos are checked at the door and you never feel like you're being judged. The workout was great, as was the trainer Nicole. She was energetic and positive. However, I am speechless with their unethical marketing. Allow me to explain: I go on the 12's website a few days ago before my trip to So. Cal. I see an advertisement for 2 complimentary classes. No fine print. No limitations. No restrictions. So, I seize the opportunity and pursue these 2 free classes for my upcoming trip. Fast forward to my first class and I am getting charged. I tell the front desk girl that I have 2 free classes. She proceeds to tell me the promotion is "for locals only". I tell her there was no such language or restrictions in the advertisement. Her response was jaw dropping: "legally we have no obligation to put that in." Really?!? Okay, what about ethically holding yourself and your business practices to some integrity and not subscribing to bait and switch tactics. We rely on what you put out to us and false advertising practices is unprofessional to say the least. I had already taken the 20 minute drive and didn't want to waste my morning so I paid the money and got a good workout. But it's a shame that I was lured under false pretenses. The 12 Irvine has been incredible. The gym is cleanly and neat, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the workouts are tough and always exciting. I signed up in June of this year and have already seen incredible results. I've always struggled with being consistent with my works outs but having the structure in the class is why I've been able to be more successful! The 12 focuses on HiiT training so the workouts can be pretty intense. However the coaches there just want your best effort so if you are just starting to workout and need some time to build your strength and endurance I would still recommend their classes. The group environment makes it less intimidating and the coaches are motivating throughout the class! If you sign up for membership you get access to every one of the classes they offer, which includes a variety of different start times, 2 separate locations(Costa Mesa & Irvine), Classes are unlimited so me and my husband try To make it a routine to go M-F and just start our day working out!! COVID GUIDLINES: You do have to wear a mask upon entry and take a temperature test. **You do NOT have to wear your mask while you work out // However ever station is adequately spread out so you have enough space. As long as you bring an extra towel to wipe down any equipment that you use you're all set! AND they provide each member a sanitized spray bottle before each workout. The price is $189/month so it is significantly more than your average gym but I would totally recommend trying it since they offer a free trial class! It's no pressure to sign up afterwards at all either, but definitely worth going if you also struggle to get creative with your workouts and have a hard time being consistent with them like me! The 12 Review I started going to the 12 in June. They we were running a monthly special(not available anymore) so after doing my free trial class I immediately signed up. The regular price comes in at $189/month which sounds steep but I believe it's totally worth it based on the results I've seen already. Since joining I've lost 10lbs, shed body fat, and also built muscle mass. They provide a pretty cool InBody machine at each studio to measure all of these things so you can keep track of your progress. They offer many different time slots throughout the day to meet scheduling needs that every member has access to and the membership carries over to both locations(Irvine & Costa Mesa). This is a HiiT focused workout program that is always fresh and new no matter how long you've been attending classes. Every coach that I have worked with is awesome(especially Uli in the 9AM slot at Irvine ). They are very motivating and open to teaching you on the spot. Even though it is a group workout class they make it feel very personal every workout. COVID GUIDELINES: They require a mask when entering the building and before you can fully enter they do take your temperature. They also require two towels, one for yourself and one for any equipment you use throughout your workout. Sanitizing spray bottles are provided so that you can wipe down equipment before moving on to the next station of the class. All in all the price is definitely higher than your average gym. But at the 12 you get awesome workout routines provided and explained every day, awesome coaches who are there to help you with whatever your fitness goals are, and a variety of different classes and time slots that are easy to schedule with their very own app. To this day I'm in the best shape I've ever been in and I couldn't have done it without the 12! read more

I started coming this summer and I truly have felt and seen so much improvement in such a small amount of time. My favorite part about the 12 has been taking Nichole's class! Since day 1, she remembered my name, has always been helpful with form and making me feel comfortable with exercises that can be very challenging. I have been to the 12 in both Costa Mesa and in Huntington Beach, but this was my first time at the Irvine location. After last nights class with Alex, I don't know if I would ever enjoy the other locations again. That is in NO WAY representative of the staff at the other locations, that is just how amazing Alex's classes are. He just upped my standards. Alex came up to me and my friend immediately when we walked in the room and greeted us, and beyond that, tried to get to know us and find a way to make a personal connection. That continued through the entire class. Alex was/is the perfect amount of fun, real ness (he will call you out if you stop or are doing something wrong), he will push you, encourage, but you ultimately feel like he has your back. I was laughing the entire class (even when my body wanted to cry). It was enjoyable when the workouts weren't always, and I am just so impressed. I think the 12 pm classes with Alex will now be in a weekly rotation for me! read more

I came here on the Thursday 6am class. It was an ab day. I was greeted nicely by the person at the front desk and she explained to me all the details, where things are, and how the workout is going to be. In regards to the facility, it is spacious and they provide cubbies and towels; they have three water stations inside the training room. However, in regards to the workout itself, I wasn't fully satisfied. I feel like there wasn't a good balance of cardio and strength training because that was what I thought it was going to be. I came out of the class with minimum sweat. I've been to a number of workout classes and I'll say that The 12 is just average compared to the other I've been to. There are definitely other better classes I've been to. Overall, I would recommend you to try it since everyone has different preferences. They do offer 2 complimentary classes so be sure to make use of those before committing to an entire package or membership. read more

This is a great place if you're looking for a high energy, encouraging environment. The workouts are great and appear to vary day to day. I do have ons suggestion for the facility--as I was new to studio, I did not realize it was practice for people to leave the treadmills running when we switch stations. Further, the area where the treadmills are is darker than the rest of the gym. Not knowing this, I stepped onto the treadmill not realizing it was on and injured myself pretty badly. The girl in my group said the same thing happened to her two weeks ago. The instructors need to let new people know that the machines will be on already when they switch or tell people to put it on pause. Seems dangerous to keep them running like that. read more

Let me start off with describing my fitness background: mainly a dancer with an occasional gym pass from time to time. I was pretty skeptical about how I was going to react to HIIT, since I always hear that it's super hard (and it is!), but I was willing to give it a try. My first week was pretty brutal, everyday a part of my body got sore and kept getting sore. I really didn't think I was going to make it past week 1, but by the end of it I was feeling really good. I found that I was feeling amazing after every workout and I got better rest (needed less sleep at night) and I was being a lot more productive during the day at work. I really enjoyed the aspect of everyone one being there for the same reason: to make yourself better, no matter what level you're at. I would be in a similar circuit group every evening and I really benefited from the fact that everyone kept the morale up. I would recommend anyone wanting to try it for the first time, to take at least a week's worth of sessions, because to be honest, I felt like I wanted to quit after two days (they offer 2 complimentary sessions)- that's not enough time to give it a chance and get used to the regiment and really feel the full reaction to the workouts- if you're working it right. I'm 2.5 weeks into it and I can feel/see my body toning and getting stronger. I love the feeling! It also makes me feel more confident in my body... So far I've had Mari the most, she's great and will push each person to their own limit. She makes everyone feel welcomed to the class, whether it's your first time or a regular. read more

No matter what your athletic background is, beginner or advanced, or what shape you're in, the 12 will absolutely SLAY you. It is high-intensity circuit training but everyone goes at their own pace and the instructors are motivating AF. The workouts basically fuel the "EPOC" effect and you continue to burn calories even after your workout! I've done two classes through Classpass here: "Explode" which a full body workout and "Drive" which targets legs and glutes and I am already looking forward to being a regular. Both times have been with Sarah and her classes are so much fun! Halfway through each class, I always look around to see how others are doing and everyone always looks miserable LOL but that's good because it means that we're all being pushed to our limits! After my first class, I was sore everywhere for, I shit you not, 4 days which was awesome! I used to be a 24 hour/LA Fitness member and have always been unmotivated about going to the gym, but coming here makes me excited for my next workout. The 12 really works for me because I need someone to continually push me and not let me give up, and they blast good music here so that's really motivating too. The fact that you're not alone helps a lot too--you do circuits in groups of 5 so everybody on the team is always encouraging each other. If you're going to work out for an hour, MAKE IT THE MOST EFFICIENT HOUR OF SWEATING AND HUFFING AND PUFFING BY GOING TO THE 12. I didn't even hesitate to, but I have cancelled my LA Fitness membership to commit to The 12. I don't always get off work on time, and once I'm off work, I don't have the same energy as I started my day with. I love how I can spend my hour at the gym as efficiently as possible. The circuits they offer are insane but do-able. I could never push myself to do the same if I were alone at LA Fitness. Also, I could maybe do the same exercises alone, but it would take massive willpower to get me to take as little rest breaks as they allow in the Afterburn classes. There are also numerous exercises I would have never known about if I had never attended these classes. I've only had female instructors so far (Tricia Buck, Orah Portoleau & Amy Green) and they've all been SOLID. They have insane strength and energy (Amy Green at a 5:15 AM is a sight to see. She is running around fixing your form and finding time to dance inbetween!!). They emphasize form, power and speed at the right times. They encourage while challenging you without using intimidation, so you can easily bring your sore a$$ back the next day. read more

You say you want a summer body or you want to be healthier and fit, or at least your doctor has told you that you need to be... well this is the place to get your workout on (at least when they open up again)..... lol I don't mean to sound cheesy, but I wanted to grab your attention. My husband and I love this place. We have been going for a couple of months and love the trainers, staff and quite frankly a lot of the people that work-out there. They have a team like environment which we have truly appreciated and enjoyed (although that was a little suspended due to the PITA coronavirus, but I'm sure it will return ) . The workouts were a little tough to begin with but as long a you don't give up they get easier and easier! My husband has lost almost 20 pounds and I'm a lot more toned than I've ever been! One of our favorite places to train. My friend and I go here all the time. They made changes to help protect the members from COVID. The place is clean, unlike a lot of CrossFit places, and most 24Hr Fitness's and actually most gyms. Also, the training is great. We've been coming here for years and I believe that's partly of the reason we my friend and I never get sick. I like the pace and exercise design. If you can't do a particular exercise, the trainers always give an alternative. Speaking of trainers, they are all great. All knowledgeable. Absolutely in love with this place ! I had been hearing a lot about it and how encouraging everyone is so I had to give it a try. I used to go to an all women's bootcamp that was just not encouraging and they never recognized teamwork or everyone pushing each other, it was more individual. But at the 12 it's a different experience. The instructors encourage everyone to push each other. Give hi-fives to team mates and the instructors walk around and give hi-gives during the class as well. I have taken classes with Nichole, Ryan, Sopee, and Angela and each of them have been amazing, they push you so much during class and make sure you give your 110% but they never push you to injury. That was my one fear, being pushed to lift weights that are too heavy or forced to do impossible exercise but that never happened ! We are always offered modifications if needed, we pick our own weights and if the instructor thinks you can do more they encourage it but never force! During class instructors run around, jump around, say encouraging things and help you get through it, I never wonder "when is this going to be over" it goes so fast I love it !! I also think it's great that everyday targets specific body parts so your not only pushing your legs or arms. They also offer SO MANY different classes that it's easy to always make it to a class. To be honest, when I first walked into the 12, I was totally scared and intimidated. But when I tried their complementary class with Sofie and then another class with Ryan, I knew that this place was a great fit for me to get fit! The staff and the "regulars" made me feel welcomed into their community. First off, I totally appreciate the trainers and their ability to challenge us. Ryan is super motivating and makes the workouts fun. I enjoy circuit training because it allows variation throughout the session. Plus, you get to work with different kinds of equipment with the guidance of a trainer. (Whenever I go to the gym on my own, I have no clue how to work equipment AND to know whether or not I'm doing something right or wrong.) But the trainers are their to help correct and motivate. The gym itself is pretty big and really clean. I appreciate how everyone respects the equipment and works together to keep it clean and safe. Plus there's a fridge for you to keep your protein drinks! Since I've joined the 12, I've seen progress (yay!). With each class, we target a specific area (legs, core/abs, full body, etc.) and it motivates me more to come back!! read more

I have been a 24 Hour Fitness member for over ten years and have tried out probably over 20 gyms throughout the years and tried out the free trial in January that The 12 offered. Immediately after the first workout I knew I was going to sign up and have since then brought in several other friends to sign up with me. I did a class every day for two weeks and gained 3 lbs of muscle and lost 2% body fat, so trust me when I say that The 12 is the place to be. Although her jokes have plenty of room for improvement, one of the trainers at The 12, Nicole, is the current record holder for earliest "waker-upper" in the OC area and enjoys kicking our butts early in the morning. You're going to want to take her classes (just kidding Nicole your jokes are pretty good). The Force is also strong with Madie, who is a Princess Leia look-a-like that is clearly fulfilling her destiny in becoming the strong jedi trainer she was meant to be. Sarah has been around for a while at the Costa Mesa location but has recently started teaching at Irvine Mesa. Many say she is the best selfie-taker of the staff, but to the best of my knowledge it has not been deemed official. I would recommend for her to stay on her selfie game to maintain her spot as unofficial #1 since the gym is expanding and hiring other people who will be wanting to knock her off her selfie-throne. Krista, AKA "Krista_the12"is a triple threat as she not only is an amazing social media producer and gym coordinator, but also finds the time to fold The 12 towels as perfectly as they are (how she finds the time, no one knows). Not to mention she puts up with my dad jokes on the way in and on the way out of class every morning. On the real, if you are a person looking to switch up the routine, I promise that you'll get out of The 12 what you put into it. It's not just me that wakes up everyday looking forward to hitting The 12! I hope that this is the highest paid gym staff around because they are lightyears beyond all others. Just finished my first Boom class! I love this gym. I love the blaring music, I love the intensity, I love the social nature. It is the most positive energy I have ever experienced at a gym. Ever! For years I've tried this gym and that gym. Tried yoga and running and workout videos at home. Nothing I have done has made me WANT to go to the gym like The 12. I leave every class exhausted and exhilarated. It is the best hour (or today 2 hours!) of my day. The Boom class was great. So. Much. Ankle bands. I haven't yet found a class I don't like but I am excited to add this in every Saturday. The motions are very controlled and very focused. You can feel them getting stronger! The coaches at The 12 are so dedicated to their program and every person who goes to a class. I still needs lots of modifications and not one class has gone by I wasn't offered some guidance, coaching, encouragement, and several times heavier dumbbells than I was already using. I am not going to lie, when you first go - its tough. But lets be honest. Anything worth having is always hard. I have been to gyms all over the place. I love this gym mostly because both the trainers and the attendee's are all very down to earth. The coaches are super cool and always encourage a team atmosphere. Although it is competitive, you can totally go at your pace and there is always someone there with your same fitness level. I have literally fallen in love with this place and each of the coaches have their own unique style and approach. If you want to really kick start your life changes, do the 8 week nutrition plan with a 10 day kick start cleanse. Nichole is the best and will help you achieve your goals. Sarah definetly has her own swag and I love her playlists. I love her authenticity and she makes the workouts super fun. I love her sense of humor. I tried the 12 on their free trial, and then I joined for their monthly deal as a first time customer. The previous gym I went to - I always dreaded going to classes, would debate going and make up excuses to not go. Not so at The 12! I actually looked forward to the classes! I thought it striked a really good balance of both weights and cardio. There are plenty of both guys and girls who attend the classes. Although you have to book the class on the app, I never had trouble getting into the 4 pm weekday classes. Unfortunately for me, when my month membership ended, I didn't join as a month-to-month member. The location is close to my work, but my drive home after the workout was just too long with the traffic, and it took out too much time from my weeknights. So, I had to look for another gym. I love The 12 classes, especially Marco and Jared's. They both are great instructors and give out very useful exercising tips. My hubby and I enjoy their classes. Although the 12 is pricy it is totally worth it. We have been going there for 3 months, it doesn't mean it is easy. We get our butts kicked at every workout! Totally worth it! I've been going to The 12 for about 2 years and I absolutely love it. The two trainers I have the most time with are Nichole and Uli they are both fantastic, definitely a major reason I drive to this location even though I live a block from the other location. Uli is a great coach, plays the best mix of music and it's just loud enough to be motivational. I get to work out with Nichole now more, it's great that the trainers enjoy working out at their job. I started coming to the 12 about a month ago. I love it and can honestly say I'm addicted to going. I've seen such a change in my strength and stamina since starting. I've been taking Maddie's classes in the morning and I love that each day is something new so I never get bored. Maddie is a great teacher and makes waking up that early worth it!!! She is fun and always makes sure each person has the proper form with each exercise. I love the 12 and recommend it to everyone! Update to my review: I purchased the monthly automatic payment plan because I found a workout that I love and a routine that challenges me. I must say my favorite days have become Sunday and Thursdays with Sarah. Who doesn't like leg, butt and ab days?! However everyday is a GREAT workout at the 12! Sarah has great playlists and keeps us all motivated. Her cool downs are also amazing after a strenuous workout. I now realize how important it is to stretch afterwards. They Recently moved to another location. They used to have a location in Irvine and now it called Irvine Mesa and it is located in Red Hills. I have not been here for a long time, this location is clean and huge. The workout is more like bootcamp and HIIT. All your muscles are involved plus each day the focus is on one specific body part( legs,arms,etc). There are mostly 5 station and in each station there are 2-3 workouts. The instructor was motivating, they accept CLASSPASS as well. The good thing about this gum is that they have a body analysis called InBody. Its good to monitor your body fat and muscle mass weight. The good thing is you can save your info and you can compare your progress. The morning classes are not crowded, we were about 15-16 people in the class today. I saw they put football and billiards table in this location which is pretty cool. read more
