Return visit. Both my wife and I got Luke's Schnitzel. We've had it on a previous visit and it was very good. This visit the pork cutlet was extremely salty and way overcooked. The pork had been so over cooked it was hard to cut. The side of mashed potatoes and gravy were good. We had $1 wings as an appetizer. The wings were good also. My husband and I have eaten twice at the 1894 Lodge for our summer birthdays. Both time we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The ambiance in the main dining room with the very tall ceiling and windows, rustic brickwork on the walls, and considerate wait staff complimented the incredible food to make for a memorable experience. Our most recent visit started with an Indiana Sunset cocktail, pretzels with beer cheese, and General Bri's Brussels Sprouts. The cocktail was sweet and tart and just lovely to look at. The Asian-infusion sprouts were top notch with a complex spicy peanut flavor. We both ordered the raspberry chipotle Roasted chicken, which was flavorful and tender. It comes with asparagus and a hearty corn pico de gallo, but I swapped asparagus for the amazing mashed potatoes. We ended the amazing meal with bread pudding and apple blintzes. Got here a few minutes before our reservation, hostess was nice and checked us in. We were sat 5 minutes after reservation which is fine, waitress greeted us within a few minutes. Then things went down hill - our waitress informed us after 30 minutes they forgot to pull our ticket. She did her best, brought out an app for us to eat and some fries. The ribeye- smaller looked like a strip/ no flavor and the sauce on the side was too off taste to even use. Chicken buffalo sandwich was disgusting only flavor was the buffalo sauce the chicken was drenched in, fries were old and stale. The chicken was cold as if it had been sititng out for awhile. The manager for sure should have addressed our table with not pulling our ticket and 4 other tables getting their food before us. I ordered Chicken Marsala with mashed potatoes and vegetables on the recommendation of Carrie. My dish was fantastic!!! Tender chicken with wonderful mushroom sauce and the carrots and broccoli were some of the tastiest I ever had anywhere. They tasted like they were pulled out of the garden today. Wife ordered Chicken Tenders which I already know are fabulous. They come with fries. She said everything was GOOD. Wife had 2 tenders left to take home. I helped her finish the fries. We ordered Key Lime Pie to share for dessert at Carrie's approval. We were SO glad to order that item. It is the BEST Key Lime Pie we ever had ANYWHERE. What an absolutely delightful dessert. Went to 1894 Lodge with some friends on Thursday. Decided to sit upstairs because there was a half price special on wine and appetizers on the 2nd floor only. Started with a bottle of Trefethen vineyards red wine, the egg roll special, goat cheese fritters and bang bang shrimp. They were all very good. We then had French onion soup which was great. The main courses were Lodge fried chicken, meatloaf, fish and chips and Luke's schnitzel. All were unique combinations but very good. The fish was a very large portion. We were vacationing in Madison and somehow found this place online. Well worth the drive. Service was great and the food was delicious. Such a cool building with a vast history. We visited 1894 on a Saturday night in January, we had a party of 8. The waitress was very pleasant, prompt, and took such great care of us. Amongst the table, we ordered the Philly cheesesteak wontons that came with a beer cheese dipping sauce - very hot, crisp, and tasty. We also had a wedge salad with blue cheese, it was super fresh, loaded with bacon and dressing. Excellent wedge. For entrees, two people had the fried chicken and said the chicken itself was fantastic, but the macaroni it was served with was just okay - not cheesy or creamy, kinda dried out. I personally had the meatloaf, which was served atop of mashed potatoes and topped with BBQ and crispy onions. I LOVED this dish!! Would definitely order again. Another person had the lobster ravioli special and said it was superb, and it was also a huge portion. Overall, we loved our experience here and will drive back out again. Found myself with a half day off so I decided to make the 40 minute trip to New Washington because this place has been bookmarked by me for quite some time now. I made a reservation just in case and boy was I glad I did, people were waiting outside for the doors to open - but I kind of get it, this is a little oasis in what is otherwise a dead small town. The only other things on this street are a gas station and a hardware store. Leslie was our server and she was amazing, very prompt, professional and friendly. She recommended the smoked old fashioned which was delicious and came in a little box filled with smoke. Very clever! My entree was the meatloaf, which came with mashed potato and roasted vegetables. The menu said it was first come first serve and that it sells out fast and I can believe it. Very moist and flavorful! I also got to sample the egg roll of the day which was italian beef and those were so great. If they made those a permanent fixture on the menu I might have to drive up there once a week to get some! Also the goat cheese app? Next level, what a treat. Definitely get those if you are here. All in all a five star experience that was so unexpected and delightful. Highly recommend. read more

The first time going to 1894 Lodge for me, my spouse, son and daughter. The other guests in our party of 11 had been there before on multiple occasions. Very good experience. Our party included 2 small kids...1 and 5 years of age. We all shared apps of wings, Big Mac egg rolls and crab dip. 2 in our party ordered the Hot Brown. They reported as excellent. Three of our party ordered the Chicken Marsala. Reported as excellent flavor, with mashed potatoes, asparagus, broccoli and carrots (roasted vegetables). One person ordered the pork chop dinner also with roasted vegetables and a cherry sauce. I got a taste of the pork chop...I know what I'll be having next time!! Two of us ordered the 14oz ribeye. One with Brussels sprouts (as shown) and one with Mac and cheese (not shown). I had the ribeye with Brussels sprouts. My complaint is I thought it would be a thicker cut. So a medium steak was medium in a few places but medium-well to well done in several places. The steak was delicious even with that. Kaci was an awesome server. She was attentive and excellent!! This is a very classy joint. They request you dress up. But most I seen were in jeans and a nice top. This was once an old school house and converted into many things afterwards before it became a restaurant. It has a romantic feel but is also family welcoming. The service was a little slow. But as most places are struggling right now it was not a surprise. But they worked their butts off and delivered great service. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was very good. We got the crab dip and Big Mac in a egg roll. The crab dip and bread was very delicious. They had a nice balsamic reduction drizzled on the bread which gave a nice sweet bite. The egg rolls were a little too prickly for my taste. I got the fish and chips for dinner with a side of their beer Mac and cheese. The max and cheese was a little dry but had a very nice taste. The fish was very moist and a nice crispy breading. The tarter was also a little prickly for my taste but was very nice and refreshing. I highly recommend this place. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. They gather their veggies and herbs from their garden. Very farm to table and you can taste the freshness. Had another nice meal at 1894 Lodge this past Saturday. Love that you can do a reservation online via Resy. My husband and I drove over from our Fisherville KY home for early evening outing. Got there a little early but as they were just beginning settings it was no problem. We'd chosen the dining room versus the Patio. My husband's chicken marsala served over mashed potatoes rather than pasta was excellent! Great marsala reduction saucec with plenty of mushrooms to satisfy! Crispy steamed broccoli rabe accompanied the dish. I got the Korean salmon over Asian vegetables - nice sweet and spicy sauce!! Great Asian veggies too, as well as the broccoli rabe. As I'd ordered a house salad to start, we had no room for dessert. Salad was very nice, and the house made ranch was thick and tasty. You must give this small town restaurant a try. The food and service is on par of what you would get at higher end restaurants closer to Louisville. Don't let the drive scare you! We took some friends to try The 1894 Lodge. The were impressed and have already recommended it to others. The restaurant is full of antiques dating back over 100 years. You can check out the speak easy upstairs and enjoy a game of pool. There is a variety of dining options: inside, outside or on the covered patio. I'm on a Nashville Hot Chicken kick right now and try it everywhere I go. I believe I have perfected it at home so I'm able to measure restaurants against something. I would say this is one of the best. It has some spice to it but not over the top. The flavor is great and the spice is in the breading not in a sauce. I will continue to dine at the 1894 Lodge and it will always be a restaurant that I recommend to people. Remember that reservation are highly recommended and my be required now. Went tonight to try the Pork Belly, Shrimp and Grits dish, however, we were informed by our server that they actually change their menu every season! I ordered the Veal Milanese instead, and my fiance ordered the Salmon. Both taste amazing and hit the spot. The Veal Milanese and its components worked perfectly. The veal was perfectly fried as the crispiness of the breading complements the juiciness of the veal meat. I also love that the veal is well-seasoned. Sometimes I find that other restaurants tend to under-season their fried dishes, but definitely this is not the case for 1894 Lodge. The refreshing radish, tomato and arugula salad balances off the heaviness of the veal, which I really appreciate. Lastly, the plating is so clean and rustic! The creativity and passion of the chef shows in how beautiful the dishes were presented. For dessert, we had the lemon mascarpone cake. I was apprehensive to order this cake because I do not really enjoy super citrus-y desserts. But to my delight, the cake only had a subtle lemon taste to it. The mascarpone filling was able to downplay the lemon flavor, and the whole cake tasted so light and good. The berries and compote/sauce added another dimension of flavor. Overall-- loved the dessert! We really enjoyed dining at The 1894 Lodge and would probably go back! We live in Jeffersonville and it was not really that bad of a drive (more or less it took us about 30 minutes to get to the resto, just took highway 62). Loved the rustic and cozy ambience! Service was also great and fast! Our server Calin had been super helpful and nice to us and answered all our questions. Anniversary dinner options are limited as we took weekend trip to the area. Selected this from Yelp and made reservation. It's got charm from outside and the outdoor seating area is really nice for family and casual dining. Inside... it's remodeled and accommodating. Not intimate white linen, but a dance floor with tables around and a smattering of movie theme pictures. We ordered and got bloody mary and Lodge Old Fashion. The bloody mary has bacon. A heavy dose of wostershire lime and olive with Laury season salted rim. Old Fashioned was $11 and a skinny pour over cube of ice with a cinnamon syrup that wasn't mixed and was difficult to find or mix because of the cube being so big. There is literally 1/4 ounce of Woodford. We got Brussel sprouts which were highlight of meal. Deep fried and garnished with pickled onions and blue cheese. Very good. Oily, but good. Then games started. We order Lodge Ribeye because they were out of strip. "We just ran out minutes ago....". The internet said they were out on drive to restaurant. The gentlemen in booth next to us also wanted one, and requested substitute to the other meals sides 'we don't allow substitutes'. No,,, you are not serving a full menu. We ordered the Lodge Steak. We got the bone in ribeye. It's been cut in half. What started, or was potentially a 1.5 inch proper cut of meat has been halved and cooked on flat iron. Then topped with butter and served with smashed sweet potato and broccolini. We think the potato and broccolini are preplated, as the vegetables were not warmed fully. The meat temperature was wrong. Mine was full spectrum from well done to rare, so somewhere across the meat I got the medium rare I asked for. Dessert was hot lava cake, with chunk of chocolate in middle. The cake was sprinkled with graham cracker and whipped cream, but not hot lava expected. Granted I expect they will survive, but its a casual bouchée restaurant destination not a steak place. And not honest IMHO. Service (Carrie) was slow, we ordered second Bloody Mary at meal delivery which came just ahead of dessert. (Blah) Good food. Wow is this place absolute fire! It's the first time my wife and I have been to this small town restaurant in New Washington, IN. It's an upscale place but the prices aren't too steep. I ordered the sirloin with cavatappi Mac and cheese. My wife ordered the NY strip with mashed potatoes. Both steaks were perfectly cooked to order (medium). The Mac and cheese is worth coming to this restaurant alone. One of the best I've ever had. The only minor complaint is that my wife didn't enjoy the mashed potatoes due to onions being incorporated into them. Everything else was amazing! The staff service here is all friendly and prompt. Making reservations were so easy. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated near the fireplace. The decor was warm and inviting. We started with a margarita and a mule to accompany the delicious Pig & Potato. The country ham was the perfect addition to the crispy potatoes. The salads were delicious and I loved the grilled lettuce in the Ceasar salad. Dinner choices included the Salmon and cajun pasta. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the sauce went perfectly with it. The cajun pasta was rich and creamy. We did not know this kind of cuisine existed in Southern Indiana! We had the mussels frites appetizer and we just couldn't get enough of the crispy garlic fries and perfect mussels in broth. The best part was dipping the crusty bread in the broth at the end. My husband had the ribeye and I had the chicken Gorgonzola. We had difficulty deciding what to get with several tasty sounding options on the menu. I guess we just have to come back and try them all! This is worth the drive from afar. As soon as we arrived and I saw the building and the outside dining area and I was pumped. We did not actually get to dine inside 1894 because the restaurant was booked for a private party so we had dinner in an addition called the garage? Outstanding venue! My first thought was it's going to be cold in there, much to my surprise there was heat and the atmosphere was over the top. We were greeted promptly by our server who immediately took our drink orders and appetizers. She returned quickly with water and minutes later she delivered our alcoholic beverages! I had a great Bloody Mary beautifully garnished, my friend also had the same drink, it was very tasty so we ordered another one. Others had wine Woodford and beer this was getting good! Then the apps arrived pretzel and white sauce along with sarachi and barbecue wings! All appetizers were eaten! For dinner I had the sirloin a house salad and macaroni. 1894 serves farm to table fresh beef..I was skeptical. One bite ended that worry. It was cooked to perfection and had no gamey taste whatsoever..I actually ate the whole steak the Mac was great and the salad was fresh. This was dinner at its best. We had a great time unbeknownst to us it was trivia night..we played right along with everyone else and came in next to last when it ended!
