Definitely one of our better meals in OB. It was our last night and we decided to eat our leftover pizza and stay in. We knew we didn't have enough for the two of us so we decided to look at The 3rd corners menu since it was right around the corner from our Airbnb. We ordered the Seafood Risotto and boy was it delicious! Creamy/cheesy risotto cooked to perfection with shrimp and scallops... how could you go wrong? read more

This cozy little restaurant is great for a date night or a small family outing. The servers were very kind and our food came out quickly. The menu really has something for everyone and the food was very reasonably priced with dishes ranging from $20-$30! Appetizers: Their escargot was my favorite part of the night! Freshly baked baguettes were perfect for dipping in the extra garlic butter and their liver mousse were a perfect start to our meal. Entrees: Their daily special and the salmon were so good! Not pictured but the cioppino was seasoned and cooked perfectly, just wish we saved some bread to soak up the extra broth. The mushroom risotto was also good, but it was a little lacking in salt especially compared to the other dishes we ordered. Dessert: We got the creme brûlée and the bread pudding. Loved the fresh fruit on the creme brûlée and the strawberry ice cream that came with the bread pudding was my favorite part of the dessert. While I didn't have any, everyone was really impressed with the wine they had and the large selection available. Excellent food and service. California Retired Teachers Association had a group of 20 for lunch in a private room. There was a small seating area outside the room where you could mingle as you arrive. We were able to order individually and Laura took good care of us. Tom, the manager was available in advance for planning. The salads were fresh, burgers big, and mussels portion very large. Parking can be an issue. read more

So sad they no longer have late night happy hour! Giant wine selection. Join the wine club for a discount! Bubbly lovers - grab a bottle of Gerard Bertrand sparkling rosé. They have mussels, duck confit, sausage penne (my personal favorite) and a fabulous brunch. If none of the wines grab you, they offer white and red sangria also. The service has always been good and they are open late. Please bring back late night happy hour! read more

I live down the street from this restaurant, and it's definitely a gem within Ocean Beach. You can expect a cozy, comfortable, and classy vibe inside, perfect for a date night or family dinner. The specials are always unique and thoughtfully crafted, and the menu options offer a variety without being overwhelming. This used to be my go-to spot but unfortunately they've altered my favorite dish on the menu:(. The roasted chicken dish used to come with potato dumplings that have been replaced by mashed potatoes! I recently came here for dinner during a business trip. This quaint little spot boasts awesome eats in addition to a large selection of wines. In addition the wine, they do have a full bar with specialty cocktails. While here I tried the mussels, seafood risotto, fries and heirloom tomato salad. All deelish! My one critique would be adjusting the corkage fee on your lesser priced wines. There's no reason my corkage fee should've been half the price of the bottle. (5.00 on a 10.00 bottle) After all if you're offering a service, make it fair. read more

I've eaten there many times over the years and have also gotten their Sunday Price Fix take out. I find the food good. I've never gotten sick but I'm concerned about their health score and violations. I'm not sure I'll continue to eat there. I would love it if a representative of the restaurant would answer here what is being done to repair the violations and why I shouldn't worry about eating there. read more

DO NOT USE YOUR DEBIT CARD HERE. 3rd Corner has had an additional $150 hold on my card for 4 days now, after charging me the original $150. Funds on hold, not available. Manager Debbie never apologized and acted as if it was my fault. I had a 5 star review for 8 years. Never going back, never recommending. Reported them to BBB. read more

Menu is very redundant mostly just pasta dishes. We got two dishes one specifically a penne and the other just said "pasta" no surprise it was also penne. My dish tasted more close to a frozen meal than a restaurant cooked dish. Bring back the risotto please. Service was good at least. read more

This was a great experience!! My first time trying this place out after many locals boast about it. It was very popular and busy but was able to get a reservation easily for the same day. They have lots of wine bottles to pick from and they will serve the bottle with your meal. Lots of options to eat and somewhat high prices on some items but not extreme. Had a shrimp pasta similar to the winery at Disneyland which is delicious and a healthy portion. They also have a bar to sit at and enjoy some sports game if that's what you like. This restaurant never disappoints! Great wines and great food along with the service. Best value for sure on the mussels! Also, the Burger special on Wednesday is incredible. Like other reviewers you can order a premium glass of wine and the burger is free :) Love Thomas too! Great wine knowledge and always helpful when making suggestions. I came here with my boyfriend during our most recent trip to San Diego. First of all, I want to say wow! The dining experience is so unique. You walk in through a wine retail shop when you're seated to your table. You can order limited wine from their menu by the glass, or you can grab a bottle from the store for a reasonable corking fee. There are so many great wine options to chose from! The quality of the food is one to remember! They better not fire the chef because he knows what he's doing. I ordered the short rib and it was absolutely divine. One of the best short rib dishes I've had in awhile. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp scallopini and that was full of flavor as well. Additionally, Emily waited on us and was so lovely throughout our dining experience. When we come back, we are definitely visiting this place again. Cheers read more

If Yelp ever did allow for 1/2 ratings I would nudge it up to 3.5 stars. What we had: Free bread and butter: Nice portion and quality butter Brie in pastry. Nicely made and good size. Salad is a bit overwhelming with it. The salad could have been downsized a bit, and maybe they could have added some sort of tart compote to offset the cheese's richness New York steak: Prepared as asked and good. Nothing extraordinary about it, which for 24.95 you sort of expect it to be Shrimp with pasta: I was told nicely done I also asked for the duck confit on the side, but it never arrived. It was almost for the best because we had quite a fill between the food, and bread. I did not bring it up, and thankfully it was not on my bill Cocktails were nicely prepared and strong Service was a bit sluggish at times. Place itself is I guess what you would call 'shabby chic'.. Prices are pretty good compared to other places. Presentation is basic 3rd corner was a place I had wanted to come for some time. I am glad I did, but I think it may end up being a one and done experience for me. ***They do have their own private lot, but it is small. Stopped in on a Friday night around 9PM without a reservation. The only seats available were at the bar which ended up making the whole experience. Drew was very knowledgeable about wine. You can tell this guy loves his job as he was gleaming while trying to help me find one that I liked. We finally settled on a Malbec, a type of red wine I would haven't had the chance to experience had it not been for him. I love that Drew was very present at the bar without seeming overbearing. 10/10 would come back again to sit at the bar :) read more

The 3rd Corner Wine Shop & Bistro is a sophisticated neighborhood restaurant with a unique and affordable concept; within the restaurant lies a retail wine shop with a selection of up to 1,000 bottles of wine that the guest can choose from and uncork at the table for only $7. We also feature a full bar and offer wines by the glass. Not only do we have indoor dining room seating; we also offer a lounge area with couches, seats at the bar, and our outdoor patio area.

History

Established in 2006.

The concept of the 3rd Corner involved a bit of luck and good timing. As owner of Thee Bungalow Restaurant, Ed Moore had a successful wine club that soon outgrew it space. When Ed decided to close the original 3rd Corner Mediterranean Seafood restaurant, Ed gained the space needed for the wine club to grow. He also had a ready built restaurant that needed to be used. When he combined the wine club with the restaurant, the new 3rd Corner Wine Shop & Bistro was born. Ed never envisioned the success that was to come, he wanted a wine shop that served food and got a restaurant that sold wine.

I had been excited to taste the wines here especially being very familiar with the areas in Northern CA where they source their fruit. I am very particular about wine, and the small production they do here allows for some quality tastings. Not all the wines I tasted were my favorites, but they gave me enough pleasure to know their Reserves will be exceptionable, so I spent a boatload on their Reserves that were not open for tasting. I even joined their wine club!!! If you are ever in the area, or just visiting San Diego, I Highly recommend going to Gianni Buonomo. I came on a Sunday with a group of friends and it did not disappoint. It's a cute winery and much more spacious inside than what I originally imagined. It's has a welcoming feel with cute decor decorated. I love white wine and their Sauvignon Blanc did not disappoint. It was bright, slightly sweet, citrusy with lite notes of tropical fruits. A perfect choice for a hot summer day, although I could drink this year-round. My friends loved the red blend but since I'm not a red wine person, I can only say by their reactions that they loved it. This is a great local San Diego winery to enjoy glass of wine or two in a relaxing environment. FYI... it's not air conditioned which we usually don't need this close to the beach but it can get a little warm inside on a hot day

I LOVE this place. I brought a bad date here. Sweet enough when we met, but she turned out to be incredibly critical and treated both me and our servers horribly. Nothing was good enough and she declared life too short for a filter. In this delightfully charming wine-country bistro (wine displayed in wooden shipping cases), she complained that wood grain didn't match. We sat in this cozy, high-walled dining patio, decorated/lighted in perfect charm and serenaded by ocean breeze. She can't decide if she's hot or cold, so complains about both. Our ever-patient server even offered her own scarf as a wrap-around. It was apparently the wrong color for her outfit AND the server's complexion. Couples in happy conversation surrounded. She asked the guy at the next table to eat soup quieter. She sent back TWO different glasses of wine, correcting the server's wine knowledge. I know enough to know that the wine wasn't the problem. Perhaps it disliked her. Each time I complimented the food (perfectly-seasoned chicken with rosemary) she knew what was wrong with it. Critique seemed her only tongue. I wished for a mirror to hear what she thought of herself. I steered the date to an early end and took her home. On the way out, I caught our server's eyes and mouthed "sorry..." In mind-meld, the server mouthed the same. Then my car's seat heater couldn't find the perfect temperature for her sensitive little ass. Perhaps it was trying to melt her icy heart. It was still early. My route back passed by 3rd Corner. They'd been so sweet in the middle of this hell that I stopped in. Our server was at the bar and grinned. She bought me a glass and we laughed about dates gone wrong until last call. Cannot recommend this place enough. It's better than your date. read more

While my roommate and I were disappointed that The 3rd Corner no longer offers their legendary late-night happy hour menu, that's about the only critique I can muster for this Ocean Beach gem. Our weekly roomie dinner at this delightful spot was, as always, an absolute hit! On our latest visit, I indulged in the rich and flavorful mushroom pasta, while my roommate savored the creamy mushroom risotto with asparagus. We also split one of our favorite starters, the crisp and refreshing Caesar salad. However, we couldn't help but lament not ordering our usual Baked Brie in a puff pastry - a cheesy, garlicky masterpiece that I absolutely dream about between visits. The 3rd Corner has such a knack for crafting elevated yet comforting dishes that keep us coming back week after week. And even when we're in an intense mushroom mood like this time, their menu never disappoints. Beyond the incredible food, the experience is always enhanced by the welcoming and knowledgeable staff. We love sitting at the bar, ordering a few glasses of wine (or even bottles to go!), and chatting with the friendly servers who clearly share our passion for a great wine selection. I am a regular at this place, me and my husband really like the hours that the kitchen work until and the great wine variety they have, besides all that they are not good on service. Still, we are polite enough to always tip them 20%, I wonder if we should! Some of the servers are ok, some of them are just bad, bad attitude, bad service and don't know much about wine. Forget it if you need help find some wine, I never had luck with that, fortunately we know a little bit about wine so we can pick our own and /or find one on our own that we already had there. I think the owner is never there, because I believe the service would be better if the owner was present... We have taken large parties and groups with us so many times, and EVERY TIME we had a large group service is horrible, just horrible. The menu is ok, but lacking in cheese options, they have only one kind of cheese platter which is pricey and VERY small size. I could live with that, but the service is just unacceptable. I have been here a couple of times for happy hour and brunch, and I would definitely come here for happy hour again. Brunch, not so much. The happy hour is good because they have reasonably priced wines you can purchase and enjoy with some appetizers. Definitely skip their meat, cheese and fruit platters, as they are way overpriced for the quality of meats and cheeses you get. The brunch was okay. I did not like that they couldn't accomodate any special requests because 'everything is already mixed.' I'm particular about certain ingredients, and it leads me to believe that their brunch offerings are not all that fresh. Kind of a bummer. The one stand-out in the brunch was the stuffed french toast, which was delicious. Savory dishes were so-so. The service was also really slow. Cute place to come for a date, but beware that their tables are ridiculously close together and you can hear conversations of the table next to you. read more

I hosted my mom's 70th birthday party here and everything was absolutely perfect! From the very beginning, MaryBeth was incredible to work with and made the entire planning process so easy and stress-free. I truly couldn't believe how smooth and affordable everything was. On the day of the event, everything went perfectly. The wines that were selected were delicious and such a crowd-pleaser, and every meal option was fantastic, our guests are still raving about the food! The service that night was impeccable, every staff member was so friendly, attentive, and made sure everything ran seamlessly. We had 35 people attend from all over the country, and the celebration was everything I dreamed of and more. We've been here several times - always love it. We went a couple of weeks ago, we had the lobster bisque which had good flavor but it wasn't very creamy. I had the scallops - very good but I had a couple of bites that had a grain or two of sand. Urrgh. Overlooking that they were excellent - sweet, succulent and great flavor. My husband had the braised short ribs, very good. We also enjoyed a couple of glasses of red wine - can't remember what it was now, but we've never had a bad glass of wine here. We tried some grapa (for the first time) at the end of dinner. Doubt we'll ever drink it again - far too sweet. We'll stick with wine. The staff is always friendly and helpful with selections. The atmosphere and food are great but the service received could use a little work. The portions are great, the Buttermilk Chops are delectable. We walk in and No greeting. We wait a bit as servers and others walk by with smiles but thats it. Finally someone comes around after there is a door full of people waiting to be greeted. The server comes, goes, water comes, server goes, order taken and 15 minutes later we get our meals along with the bread and butter usually set to curve your appetite. 20 minutes later the server asks to clear plates and box, gives the check then explains that this time they can separate the checks but next, ooh next time don't let it happen lol read more

I've seen this place for 15 years easily, but never went and ate. I'm born and raised in this town and To be honest my food was good not great, my aunts was good my moms was, mediocre, she got the penne with supposed Boursin cream sauce. There was almost no sauce. But a decent flavor. But the true downfall is on the waiting staff. Very flat! not nice or accommodating. The guy just seemed like he wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Didn't see one smile, just a real bummer. I mean I get it, maybe you're hung over or something, but it at least fake it man. Won't come back just due to that. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times and the food is always excellent. They always have a very unique menu with items that you do not find everywhere. The place is divided into several rooms which gives it a cozy feeling. There are a lot of wines on display and there is also a full bar. The prices are very reasonable, especially if they have a special 3 course dinner during some weeks. Parking is not easy since you are in Ocean Beach, but most of the time just a minute or two walk. I would highly recommend this place and can't wait for my next time. If only they took the passport card now. read more

This place is amazing and I love that you can shop for your bottle of wine and then cork it right away and enjoy it. The only is problem is that you can never just get 1 bottle, which isnt such a bad thing cause the prices range from really reasonable to moderately expensive if you want to splurge.. Their staff is really friendly and they know their wines. They are more than happy to find you a great bottle. They follow up their extensive wine selection with really great and reasonably priced food. Great place if you want to just chill and unwind from a busy day. Our second time to a wine-food pairing dinner at 3rd Corner. Again it was excellent. I really love the ambiance and the food was exceptionally well-prepared and delicious. Perfectly sized portions to go along with 7 wine tastings! If it is as good on our 3rd visit, I will upgrade to 5 stars. I would have given it 4.5 stars this time, but don't know how or if that is possible. My rule is that you need to frequent an establishment more than twice to give out 5 stars. But I am sure 3rd Corner will not disappoint on my 3rd visit. read more

Great staff, great wines at great prices and delicious food. I could only give it a three rating though because every time I've been there one or more of the people I'm with has had problems with getting their food or wine on time. Last time we were there we waited fifteen minutes after we ordered, until we reminded our waiter that we'd ordered a bottle. After being extremely disappointed at the rip off known as Wine Steals I was beyond happy to escape from Pt. Loma and end up here. The wines are actually the best around and the food is fantastic! I had duck confit and an amazing Sonoma Pinot that together made music in my mouth. I would highly recommend this place for the wine connoisseur and novice alike. I went to this restaurant during Restaurant week and was simply amazed at the quality of the food. They had a special menu for that week, but the portions were adequate and the food was excellent. As a matter of fact everyone in our group commented how reasonable the menu was. They also have a large wine selection and a bar. We will definitely be going back there. I went back with a group of friends to a new, fresh, enthusiastic staff, and an amazing selection of wines to choose from. I'm a vegetarian, and there were plenty of things for me to choose from. What an excellent little spot or "corner" of Ocean Beach. Their owner is super friendly and helpful with the wine. If you go there and love cheese you have to try the baked humboldt fog goat cheese...it is to die for. Their duck confit and ahi tuna special are two of my favorite dishes. For dinner, I ordered the branzino (the one on the menu and not the special). I was told while the one on the normal menu was $47, the special was $55 and the only difference between the two was the special would be lit on fire table side. I didn't feel the flames were necessary, so I skipped that. (However, the special did mention a sauce that I'm not sure was actually on the regular one, so I don't actually know.) A few minutes before the food came out, they asked if we wanted it all together or if it would be ok for my husband and our friends food to come out first since they were still finishing my fish. I said to just bring it out when it was ready, however they ended up bringing it out together anyway. The confusing part though, all of our meals weren't served warm? You'd think if they were waiting on mine to be done it would have been at least warm? It wasn't. The branzio was very plainly seasoned, tasted heavily of oil and was also somewhat dry? I got it with the whipped sweet potatoes, which was very creamy, which was unlike any way I've ever had sweet potatoes before, but they didn't taste particularly good? We each tried them and none of us could figure out what it was like, but we all agreed we didn't enjoy them. My husband got the arrecherea, it was fine, but also cold. The fries it came with was probably the best part, they were crispy even while being cold. Our friend got the stuffed Mediterranean Stuffed Pepper, his meal also wasn't warm, and he said some of the rice wasn't cooked all the way and it was hard. We also got the Puccia Bread & Spreads after seeing positive reviews. I normally love feta cheese, but the feta dip was kind of sweet? Same with the eggplant. The only spread that was good was the butter. Personally, I thought the bread was fine? But it was almost a bit doughy. Overall, we weren't very impressed with the meal. It had a lot of potential, but the food just didn't hit the mark.
