Excellent! So excited for a nice restaurant like this to be in Live Oak. Everything was great, from the service to the food. The host was wonderful and checked on us multiple times. What a great find in Live Oak Florida. This is upscale food at an affordable price. I had a cocktail to start, something called a Green Mermaid. Two kinds of rum, papaya juice and blue curaçao I believe, very tasty and only $5.00. For dinner, I had the lightly blackened sea scallops which were delicious and served with sautéed vegetables and country potatoes. My wife had the Chicken Piccata which was very good . We shared a dessert called "New Orleans bread pudding with rum sauce" which was excellent. The only downside is that the area around this restaurant is a little run down and when we were there around 5:00, it was pretty empty. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at The 406 twice this week, once for dinner, then for lunch. My goal is to eventually eat my way through the entire menu, but I started with my favorites. As usual, the crab cakes are amazing, although I highly recommend sharing one as an appetizer so you can enjoy the other selections. The bronzed grouper was FRESH....flaky, perfectly seasoned, moist. I love that it is not frozen. That baby was swimming in the ocean the day before! The shrimp po boy was also delicious, and I am super picky about my shrimp. These were larger shrimp, and they were breaded in a crunchy coating so they weren't greasy at all. And the bread? Baked fresh!!! Seriously, great food, competitive pricing with upscale chains, beautiful historic setting.....this restaurant is worth a drive to enjoy! read more

This is my favorite place to go in town. The crab bisque is one of the best I have ever had and definitely rivals some of the crab I had in New England. What a wonderful restaurant. We were on I-10 and not wanting fast food. Found this place and were blown away. My husband had a grouper dish and said it was on of the best he ever had. Make sure you review the menu before walk in ( right of the door) because you might just change your mind. For the quaint town of Live Oak, I felt the fare to be somewhat high. The food was acceptable and service was average. The atmosphere was historic as it is set in an old style plantation house. For the purveyors to charge more for a steak than a true steakhouse was a bit crass but what can you say, they have a mortgage to pay. I have lived here for 35 years and I've seen restaurants come and go. Stop in if it fits your budget because they may not be there for long. read more

Overall it was very good. The crab cakes were very good, with large pieces of crab and the bronzed grouper was excellent, very fresh. The crab bisque was good, but a little bland. The service was ok, not great. They really need a point of sale system in the bar. We could see the servers and bartender arguing over the one computer they had in the kitchen area from our seat at the bar. If they can keep serving good fresh seafood, I think the service kinks will work themselves out. Definitely recommend a visit. read more

I had the Pecan Crusted Lamb Chops and they were good! I sat at the bar and enjoyed it. Food and drinks were good and the ladies behind the bar were nice. My girlfriend had the Chicken Alfredo and it was good also. A touch pricey as compared to other local restaurants, but where else can you go locally and eat lamb? It was delicious. Wow! First things first this restaurant is amazing! When you walk in you're immediately surrounded by a classy yet comfortable and homey atmosphere. The staff was super friendly from the bus boys to the manager! Our server (don't remember his name, Matt, Mark, Mike, something with an m but he was bald) was beyond attentive, our bread basket stayed steaming and our drinks never got below half a tank. But not only was he busting his rump, he was charming and made the entire experience that much better. My ribeye was cooked just a little over how I liked it (rare, so mid-rare wasn't a deal breaker) but it was sensationally seasoned. My wife's pasta looked good enough for me to risk losing a limb for, and it was! It was phenomenal, I'm typing this review at the hospital lol (just kidding). In all seriousness, the only negative about this evening was not anyone in the business' fault, it was another guest. They were pretty busy, which is why our service was so extraordinary, and they looked understaffed. Another server, who had a table in the same room, was trying his best to keep up. He was seated with a party of 7 and immediately this woman starts off with how the tables are too small and she has to sit close to her husband. Fast forward to the winding down of our pleasant meal, the same woman is making a scene about her food, we were sitting​ nearby and she was talking loud and being rude and disrespectful to her, at this point, exasperated server. She said she would never be back. I don't know how it worked out for her as we left before them. Great place to eat, will definitely be back!! Especially since the nagger won't be lol!!! Like most reviews I give, The 406, a five star (Excellent Rating) as well. The 406 has created its own venue leaving the competition at a disadvantage. Their wood burning grill provides steaks that even surrounding steak houses cannot offer. The Oysters are tracked down, from the best locations, by one of the owners. Seafood is always fresh, never frozen, served within twenty-four hours. I would also like to thank the team at The 406 for the great dining experience and the hospitality. read more

Back again last night. Yes the place was packed as usual and they were out of some menu items. But with all of the choices on their menu no problem making another selection. At our table there were Cedar Key Clams, Oysters Rockefeller and Crab Bisque for appetizers and all were delicious. Dinners were Chicken Piccatta, Champagne Chicken and Rib Eye Steak cooked to perfection. Yes it took a while from the time of our reservation until we finished our dessert but if we had wanted fast food we would have gone to a burger joint. To us dinner out is a relaxing evening event and we enjoyed every minute of it. It is always possible things do not go perfect when dining out but this place has never disappointed us or our friends when we dine here! Reservation are a must on the weekends! If you have had a disappointing experience here trust me it is not the norm. Things do not always go perfect but this place is close! read more

We stopped here on our way home from a week in the woods/river, after reading some reviews. This is an incredible restaurant, some of the best seafood we've eaten (and seafood is our fav). But when one of our entrees came with'our green beans' as Carrie referred to them, that was the first bite Bob took. Exceptional! Blanched, served in a butter sauce with horseradish,YUM! The Golden Grouper was outstanding, done to perfection. Also had SmokedShrimp,which had a slight smoked flavor and again, done to perfection. There are not enough words to describe the crab cakes!!! I try crab cakes ina lot of places, but none beats these- large pieces of lump crab,no filler and they just melted in your mouth. Carrie, thank you for talking us into the bread pudding for dessert. Bob didn't want it because he doesn't like bread pudding, but he had more than his fair share. Just wish this place wasn't a 4 hr drive from home. Congrats to the 406 in Duval. read more

This restaurant is a real find, in a small FL town where you wouldn't expect it. The setting is very nice, an old house that has been renovated. The interior is lovely, but one doesn't need to be dressed up to go there. We were in jeans, because we had just come off the interstate, and so were several other patrons. I had the Pecan Crusted Lamb Chops and they were great. My husband got a steak, and he was pleased too. We liked it enough that we came back the next day for lunch. I had the crab cakes then, and they didn't seem quite so special. We sat at the bar the second time, and I would give that 3 stars. The setting was not so nice, and we could hear a staff person complaining about something. The dining room is definitely the way to go. This excellent place is definitely worth a short trip off the interstate if you are driving by; it's only about 10 minutes out of your way, and much, much better than most small town FL food. If I lived in Live Oak, I'd probably eat here every week. read more
