**UPDATED REVIEW** The last time I reviewed The 905 Cafe (which I will shorthand simply to 905) was early in my Yelping career. I don't even remember if I earned RED yet, but I surely enjoyed being honest about where I partook my patronage to. 905 received my highest rating for an initial review for a local business, and unless you know, that is always going to be four out of five stars because my fifth star is always earned for consistency as in "consistently being good/great/amazing!" I will stress that I haven't been back to 905 as much as I'd like simply because of work, but now that I have finally made many returns, I can happily say that after eight years (which is way too long if you ask me), I finally made enough visits to write that 905 is consistent and thus have earned their fifth star in which they are one of the few - after I have organized my reviewing style and detail - to be a perfect score local business. In general, all the details I described in my previous review are still effect, but there are some changes that need to be noted. Firstly, 905 is no longer located at 905. It is across the street at 908. They moved back in 2020 during the pandemic. Secondly, there are now more wares inside from local creators, and even a small book and media purchase area. Finally, I must stress how amazing the soups are. Take note that like any other place that makes one pot for the day and finishes that pot in said day, depending on the time you go and how much soup is left, you might get a "flavor bomb" at times. For example, if I show up just an hour or two before closing, my soup will be loaded with flavor because flavor settles over time, even if you mix the soup every so often. That's just the truth. Finally, the ambiance still has the feel of going to grandma's house, but a bit more modernization, too. Nothing too bad but it should be noted. And I don't think I said this last time, but the restroom is gender neutral and very clean. Only place in the entire restaurant where profanity is shown and I don't mean graffiti on the walls because they don't have that. You'll see if you go. Ultimately, they deserve their five-out-of-five stars and it has been a pleasure eating there. I always go back for their soups so I will definitely be around. read more

I haven't been to downtown Melbourne in a really long time to eat, walk, or shop. My friend said she wanted to meet here for some coffee and she really likes their turkey sandwich. When I walked in I felt so happy to see a shop like this in Melbourne. They have anything they could find to be a table and different types of chairs. I had no idea this place existed for so long until I went to the restroom and saw the picture where they are located next to the old Island Pasta Company! I had their blueberry crumb cake, with an iced chai. They made it perfectly and the crumble was delicious! My friend loved her sandwich and it definitely looked delicious. I overheard a couple saying "I mean it tastes healthy" speaking about whatever they ordered, but then, "it actually tastes really good". It gives me California vibes and we miss Cali so much so this was a nice spot to feel like even for a moment we were back where we wanted to be! I'll definitely be back and can't wait to try some of the sandwiches and other items on menu. Lots of comfy seating. I got a breakfast sandwich, a latte and an apple scone. The scone and sandwich were good, nothing too crazy about them, haha, but good! Nice place! Dropped by because I was need of caffeine! I ordered an iced coffee and my husband had an iced tea. We opted to get them "for here" rather than "to go" so we could sit and chill downtown for a few minutes. The beverages were good, nothing extraordinary but nothing terrible. It's a bit odd (for me anyway) to drink iced coffee from a glass but that's probably only because I'm so accustomed to places that use plastic cups. Maybe I'm weird like that. Besides, everyone wastes too much plastic anyway. We didn't order any food, so I can't offer my opinions on their food menu, but their prices were fair for the beverages. The employees were super nice, providing great service, and that is definitely a big deal in my book! Oh, and it's a cute little coffee shop / cafe because of all the mismatched furniture and decor -- nothing really matches because it's all for sale! I'm not 100% sure why (do they owners also own a consignment furnished shop? Does another local business let them use furniture in hopes that it will sell? Five stars because service was great, food was great too! Staying at the Hotel Melby we ventured out for some coffee. The menu isn't very large but the food was amazingly tasty. We got two breakfast sandwiches. One croissant with egg, cheese and bacon and the other just egg and cheese on a bagel. Very large cups of coffee. All of that for $13+ change. Nice, funky little cafe in heart of Old Melbourne on New Haven Ave. Only visited once so far for lunch but enjoyed the healthful food options and reasonable prices. Order when you first go in and then proceed to the eclectic seating area in the back.....a variety of chairs, tables and bar along the wall with stools. They will bring your food out to you. We had quiche and tuna wrap. Both were simple but quite good and had a choice of sides of which we chose a mixed green salad. We will definitely return perhaps for breakfast or when in need of a nice light lunch. read more

Asked for a chocolate shake with peanut butter (PB not on the menu) and they were happy to make it. Notice that there are mostly housewives hanging out here... its a bit too dark to read a newspaper unless you are lucky to get one of the few tables with a little lamp. Upside the house mug coffee is only $1.75 and there are some great for sale oil paintings on the walls. Downside no Wi-Fi but you can jump onto the neighboring "Island Pasta Calilou" network that's showing 4 bars on my laptop. read more

The 905 Cafe- Downtown Melbourne- 4 stars Secreted away in a small niche amongst a gaggle of shops, boutiques, art galleries, and eating establishments awaits a true culinary gem for your enjoyment. I am speaking, of course, about the 905 Cafe in the Historic Arts district of the sprawling metropolis that is downtown Melbourne, FL. The first thing that struck me as I entered and approached the counter for service was the fact that 905 has somehow kept the same ambiance for over 20 years. Not sure how they do it, but if they could bottle it and sell it, they could make a fortune. After placing my order for an Egg Salad sandwich on marbled rye and a Chicken Salad on fresh greens with the pleasant, attentive, on-the-ball counter staff, I noticed patrons comfortably seated upon antique chairs dining with utter enjoyment on the fare offered and I couldn't help but think that if Paris Hilton or her ilk (tall, skinny blondes with purse poochies) were living in Melbourne, FL. this is where they would dine. This is the kind of place that people in Hollywood go to see and be seen. The ambiance is sophisticated enough to draw their crowd, yet homey enough for the average tourist from Nebraska. Again, if they could bottle this...Anyway, I digress, back to the task at hand. My order was plated artfully and placed on a tray with a smile awaiting my pick up. I enthusiastically grabbed it off the counter and tried to casually walk to the nearest table as my eyes devoured the feast in front of me and my olfactory senses became overwhelmed with the scent of freshly baked bread wafting up from my tray. The marbled rye was still warm from the oven and had that springiness of freshly baked bread while the crust was a perfect mix of firmness and chewiness that is a must in a good bread. The taste of the bread alone was exquisite, add to that the made to order egg salad and I was in the sandwich equivalent of Valhalla (Skol!). After making the delicious egg salad disappear in a matter of moments, I moved on to the Chicken Salad Salad. As with the Egg Salad, their Chicken Salad is made to order, none of that half hour old stuff out of a bucket for these guys. It was perfectly made to the right degree of creaminess and sat majestically atop a bed of freshly selected baby Spring greens all topped with hand cut fresh strawberries and real, honest to YiaYia, goat's milk Feta. The Big Boy says, "whether you are a high-society, stilettos in the sand wearing, purse puppy toting fashionista or a surfer from Beachside in baggies, a T-shirt and flops looking for a sophisticated dining experience with delicious, made to order, better than down-home cooking, head on over to the 905 Cafe. Went in this afternoon to grab some coffee and just hang out some. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was nice for the price. I ordered a slice of quiche, which was good, with fruit and cheese. I also got a latte, which was nice. The dining room is nicely spaced out with different seating options that make it easy for you to choose what suites you. First visit here today and I'm glad I didn't leave with my first impression. Was a bit put off by having to pick my breakfast as soon as I walked in the door and felt a bit rushed. BUT ... don't let that make up your mind about this place. The back of the cafe feels like you've walked into your family's dining room. It was very cozy and a great place for a book club to meet up. Everything we ordered was fresh and clearly homemade. Everything bagel surprised me the most. It appeared to be made in-house and tasted amazing. The girl who took my order advised that they make their quiche fresh everyday and it's always different. So I had a slice of today's spinach and feta and I was glad I did! Yummmm...
