I love this place. I love the owner--Jabriel--who has been so helpful to me and so nice. The staff are wonderful: I would name them, but don't want to misspell a name or leave anyone out--especially those who've participated in making such a wonderful experience and I just haven't met them in person. They are welcoming and warm, skilled at what they do, helpful and more. I love that they have musical offerings--and often. I have loved every one I've attended. Last night I had the pleasure of enjoying the Tuesday Songwriter Showcase--this event showcased Lucy London and her violinist partner, Adam. OMG!!! It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Ever! And the food and beverages--oh my. Chelsea is my mixmaster extraordinare. When I ask her to create n/a mocktails for me (IMO, no easy task to get a truly interesting flavor sans alcohol), she always comes up with something complex and wonderful. I cannot recall all the ingredients in one of my favorites last night, but it had both an elderflower component and a rhubarb one: lovely. (And a beautiful salmon-colored hue to boot, complete with a Bartender's cherry...) The food was spectacular. I had read a recent review in the Cascadia Daily News that raved about the Admiralty (for good reason) and spotlighted the deviled eggs, among other choices. Because I make nice deviled eggs myself, I never bothered to try these, so I did last night. Very lovely: creamy and gorgeous with a different, interesting spicy little twist. (Be sure to smear the egg on the bottom of the tray to pick up more of that wonderful red spice.) And the lamb/beef sliders: I'd had them before and really loved them (and sliders aren't really my thing, so that surprised me). Either they were even better last night or I just hadn't remembered how absolutely spectacular--each bite was one of the best of anything I have ever put in my mouth. Luscious. No more be said. After trying to walk into three other top-rated restaurants in downtown Bellingham on a Friday night in June with a party of five, The Admiralty Lounge had an open table. Initially going for just a drink, we stayed for dinner. We're glad we did. Here's our experience. 1) Food: We started with the salmon dip, which everyone really loved. It comes with little toasted bread slices. The menu is heavy seafood, but there are a few options without. Walking in hungry, I ordered the deviled eggs, Caesar salad, and the shrimp (all small plates). Each dish was full of flavor and delicious! 2) Drinks: They have a robust menu. Enjoying more sweet drinks, I ordered the Spa Day. I don't love it. It's mainly ice and not sweet at all. It wasn't tart, just muted. I then ordered a local raspberry cider, which was very tasty. Located right at the edge of a fun, vibrant downtown, Admiralty provides everything you need. Wonderful ambiance, great live, local music, and incredible food! It's such a great spot before a show at Mt. Baker Theatre or the Pickford, I can't think of a better weekend recommendation. read more

We flew 2,300 miles to see Tig Notaro at the Mount Baker Theatre and booked a 4:00 table at The Admiralty Lounge for our pre-show dinner and drinks. Bellingham was chilly that day, my friends, but the ambiance and service at the Admiralty were as warm and welcoming as you could ever hope for. Jabriel, Isaac and Chelsea were friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in the door. Perfectly crispy cod filets and a towering, tasty wedge Caesar were our selections. The cocktails were carefully crafted. Great value in the Happy Hour drinks and the Six Islands Sazerac was a rum-tacular take on a New Orleans classic. Even some complimentary bubbles when they found out it was my wife's birthday! My only regret is that the Admiralty Lounge isn't my local pub, I'd be there every week! Took a new hire here, with three execs and myself. Two had seared white fish of some kind, two had fish and chips, and one person had two appetizers as her meal. The seared fish smelled a little fishy at first, but the fish was cooked to perfection. The new hire told me she had to stop and get another meal on the way home, because she was still hungry. The fish and chips were huge and the two people who had that were very happy. Four of us had vinho verde. It was $11-12 a glass. I asked for a wine list. The waiter said, "it's the same as the wine by the glass." Okay, let's get bottle! That goes quickly between four people. It's a glass per person. So with live music to enjoy, and a sunny evening, we had three bottles. Usually the bottle is a bit less than if you buy wine by the glass. Nope. The wine bottle were not less than by the glass. It was $50something a bottle. Dinner was $350 before tip. It's Bellingham. I want to know the price of what I am paying for. I was disappointed that bottles of vinho verde were $50. I looked for contact information on their website to tell them directly, but there isn't any. So I am putting the feedback here. The service was good, beside not having a wine list with prices by the bottle when I asked for it. read more

A nautical-themed masterpiece. May be the most creative and gourmet menu offerings in Bellingham and Whatcom County. I've had the best experiences and conversations here. The open mic night brings all of the greatest talent out of the woodwork. The place is ultra comfortable. The service is outstanding. The cuisine and libations are unmatched. I have been here many times, through a few evolutions of their menu, and it hits every single time. Sometimes I just want to be full after a meal, that can be found anywhere - but when I want to feel good, satisfied, and truly fulfilled with a dining experience, Admiralty is where I go. The drinks are on point, and never disappoint. The service is top notch; the likes of which is harder and harder to find nowadays. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The only critique I could ever come up with would be that I want more items on the menu, only because I want to try every flavor they come up with. In short: A cool bar in a vintage space with some historic flair in the decor, great cocktails, and a really comforting menu. In long: It shares a roof with the Mount Baker Theater, which is great on show days if you have tickets, and probably less slammed on most other days. It fronts out on Commercial, and the staff seem to have all they can do without even knowing who's playing or whether there's a show. I've been here only on a show day, but this seems like a very good sign that they're just always busy. We wandered in half an hour before a show was set to start in the building, and scored seats on a genuinely comfortable vintage couch at the back of the bar. There's old brick, high windows, and some wood on the walls. Look at the very top of the wooden walls--same wood, but much, MUCH lighter at the top. Probably decades of cigarette smoke soaked into the old wood. Not a trace of smoke scent in the air, though, so I LOVE this little detail. Staff were super friendly from the host station to the bar to the servers. Everybody's enjoying their shifts, and drinks fly out quickly. Nobody right before the show was eating, and we had just come from a light dinner. So I will vouch for the deviled eggs (three halves, very light and airy yolks, tons of interesting seasonings and flavors) but can't speak to anything else. I will soon enough, though. Lots of nice touches on their menu and we're eager to come back and check it out. We had great luck with cocktails and the wine was fine. I think the bottles of red on the counter might get lightstruck here so maybe still with refrigerated wines or cocktails. Prices were fair and they were great about getting a room full of people out the door for showtime. It was just a quick visit for a drink, and we ended up oohing and aahing over the menu and messaging friends to plan a return visit. I went to a friend's show there and was told there was a minimum $15 spend requirement. I don't drink and the vegetarian options are incredibly limited. I was going to order a dessert until I found it wouldn't meet the minimum purchase requirement. So I left. The owner responded that they are a restaurant bar and not a venue and have expenses to cover. If they are so concerned about covering expenses on music nights, do a cover charge and get rid of the rude bartender. There are better ways to approach patrons. I won't be going back. The owner's response to my review experience solidified my resolve to avoid places that are that rude as the response was just as rude- a true revelation of character. read more

I have never received so much hostility from a staff from any Bellingham restaurant. Great atmosphere, great music, great support for local musicians! What a shame that our evening was punctuated with so much rudeness from the servers. Food and drinks took forever. When my martini arrived it was watery. When I asked for more olive juice and additional olives I was told to order another martini. When a friend moved to avoid a heat vent, she was rudely berated by the server. When another friend hesitated about her order she was met with rude remarks for not being ready. My second drink was forgotten... The topper: The servers assured themselves a 20% tip --calling it a "service fee" for a group of people who arrived and ate at different times. There is so much meanness in the country right now. I am so disappointed that our evening was punctuated by servers who desperately need to learn tact and grace. read more

Went there for the first time, unlikely to come back unless it's with others. Have had friends say it was good, maybe I just got a bad day. Had their lamb and beef sliders at first. These turned out to be very tasty and I should have stuck with them and they would have gotten a much better score. Had the steak frites next. Total disappointment. Steak was $32, on the small side and very chewy. Totally overpriced for what I got in my opinion. Fries were warm at best. Restaurants, fries should go on the plate as the last item before the customer is served so they are hot. Not dumped on the plate because it's quick to do and they sit there cooling off until the rest of the dish is ready. I almost sent them back, I should have. Service was good, fun waitress so if I could break the review into food and service, the score would likely been 2 stars for the food and 4 or 5 stars for service. read more

Came last night for the first time, it's walking distance from my work and it worked out perfectly since I worked late. The service was great and my martini was delish but they were out of titos which is my go to so I chose grey goose instead. We enjoyed the Ceasar salad the dressing was perfect the deviled eggs were great but why give just 3 and not 4 ? Like where did the other half go ? We were very puzzled by this. The bubble and squeek I think it's called was just OK it was like a mushroom hash honestly..that was the one I'd never get again. We had clam chowder that was yummy with lots of clams some in shell some not. I used to come many times when it was hundred north I love this spot the big windows it's fun to people watch while dining here. I love the vibe of this place. The waitstaff are always delightful and the drinks are stellar. So far I have eaten the bubble and squeak, the fries, the sardine toast, and much tarter sauce, cause it's frigging delicious. Homemade pickles makes chefs kiss sauce! My husband loved his fish and chips and seconded the universal love for the tarter. I'm excited to try more of the menu and catch some live music one night. The owner provided a first in class dining experience and was a joy to spend time with, sharing his knowledge of whisky and bourbon. Nautical-themed bar meets craft cocktail geekiness, with a side of scratch-made creative comfort food in this warm-and-woody concept restaurant in the heart of Bellingham. Nice! You can tell I dig a joint when I get out the hyphens and let the adjectives fly... Very nearly five stars - if I'm being persnickety, I'd have to say 4.5, due to some slightly unbalanced cocktail mixology (an overly-spiced and bittered Cork Leg cocktail, and a gin cocktail with a funky-smelling dried fruit garnish that did it no favors...). ...and chewy pre-fried shallots on the otherwise-noms Tavern Steak entree (it's super easy to slice them thinner on a mandolin and flash-fry crispy to order in a light, seasoned panko, guys... that's how you avoid that gummy stale texture and preserve that shallot piquancy). But it was otherwise spectacular, especially the service, which was engaging, cheerful and good humored, yet still prompt and efficient. Yes, it can be done! Our waitress looked out after us well. I do recommend the fries, which are a hand-cut affair, perfectly seasoned and served with a delicious tartar and -get this- scratch-made apple-based tarragon ketchup! A must-try (See what I mean about the hyphens?). Also, the deviled eggs, garnished with paprika, Calabrian pepper and fresh dill, were to-die-for, although harder to share than I'd hoped, with only three to the plate. I have a good idea how much money is on that plate; maybe a little more generosity would be good for that appetizer..? Not perfect, but dang close-to, and for a new joint they are knocking it out of the park. You can tell they're proud of their stuff, here. We will certainly be back to sample more! Went to this restaurant tonight , we ordered fish and chips shared it with three people. It was very, very greasy. The fries tasted like they were made in the morning and reheated, they were beyond greasy. Tasteless fish. We ordered a Caesar salad and they gave us two stalks of lettuce. I'm not a horse, so that doesn't fit in my mouth. I had to ask for two sharp knives to cut it up and prepare my own salad ! That one meal and a salad was $65 ! The drinks add on another 25 ! We went on a busy Saturday Night. Thankfully I made a reservation 2 days before because they were having to turn people away. The staff did a fantastic job of maintaining a calm atmosphere with a flood of people lining up out the door. This is a small intimate space with a great mello vibe. The food is an epic tasty adventure, the menu has something for everyone. I had the Fish and Chips, the batter was perfectly light and crispy with an nice amount of salt sprinkled on top. The fish was fresh and didn't loose its flavor in the fryer. This dish came with a generous amount of house made fries and house made slaw. It was perfect. Along with my dinner I wanted to try one of the craft cocktails. I asked the waitress for her recommendation and she brought be The Stem the Tide. It was absolutely delicious in fact so much so I had 2. If you are looking for something completely different that has perfect cocktails a fabulous crew and delicious food in Bellingham I highly recommend The Admiralty Lounge, make a reservation first so you don't miss out. read more

Worst experience in Bellingham I've ever had at a restaurant. I've lived here since 2007 and I go out to eat around 150 times a year at different restaurants in town. Not one time in 19 years out of the thousands of times I've been out to eat have I ever had a server hit me with an aggressive attitude because I asked for red onions on a Caesar salad. She lit up with a horrible red hot attitude and it was down hill from there. Food is decent but the waitress is on another level of hate to her customers. She got red hot with me and said how weird it was and that they are not a DIY style restaurant...wtf? Now I can understand completely if a restaurant won't do anything different to a dish, i.e no special orders sir only what's on the menu. But, this was far from the case. A simple "I'm sorry but we can't do that would have sufficed instead of a horrible attitude. You've been warned. read more

Had a reservation for 2 at 6:30 for 30th anniversary dinner since it is next to the theater where we had tickets. We were then seated at the corner of a bar then waited 45 minutes for our appetizers to come out when it did the unshelled shrimp were breaded completely over the shells (I mean who does that). Then all the sudden two other menus showed up and now I had to get elbow to elbow to share enough space for one person to eat from with a stranger at the corner of the bar. There was not enough room and the hostess should have figured that out. Then was told I would have to wait 10 more minutes for (SOUP) that was also the special for the night. It's a tiny bar that is just not set up for food service. Please stop serving food there you are not good at it at all! I paid for what little we had there with a $100 bill and walked out just because i would not waste another moment of my time waiting for anything there ever again. I will never recommend or say a kind word about this horrible business. So please enjoy that $100 bill and maybe reflect on how you prepare food and how you treat customers. read more
